It is normal to be a little nervous going to a new dentist but it turned out I had no need to worry as I had a very good experience. Since this business is on the second floor make sure to call and get the door code before the visit as the cell phone service in the area is a bit spotty. The office is in a small shopping center which has its own parking so you do not need to search for a spot. They are currently having one patient at a time so you get their full attention and do not have to wait. The dental hygienist was very professional and was careful when cleaning my teeth. I appreciate that she was very detailed and did not hurt my gums when cleaning. Dr. Guttman was very complementary about my teeth and even through in a joke while examining my teeth. Been going to this crew since I moved into PDR in 2017, and it's been top notch all around. I wrote a review a few years ago but it disappeared for some reason, no idea why. But glad to write one again. Deb was as charming as she was effective, and Dr Guttman knew how to handle patients. I never had any major work done, just some cleanings, but I'm really selective about where I go and literally put my money where my mouth is. Wow I've had multiple dentists tell me that I have a nerve issue which makes it very difficult to numb my mouth during procedures. Because of this I have always be subjected to terrible sharp shooting pains during simple fillings. Dr. Guttman and Debbie, the dental assistant, manage to make going to the dentist a pleasant experience. The office decor is a throwback; it feels homey and lived-in, which is calming. The dental technology they use, however, is very up-to-date, which is also calming--it's clear from the get-go that you're going to receive excellent care. Debbie is fun to talk to and displays a genuine desire to make certain you're comfortable while she works; I hadn't been to a dentist in more than a year, and she gave me a thorough yet painless cleaning. I hadn't seen the dentist for almost eight or nine years. And the friend of mine referred me to this dentist. My overall experience was amazing and I'll be honest I don't like the dentist. But I got out of cleaning. X-rays and I ended up having to get two cavities filled and the process is fairly quick and efficient. The staff is stupendous and polite in conversive which helps a lot. It sounds horrible but my mouth completely fill the different it actually feels clean. Kind of grossed out for how long I wasn't really taking care of my teeth. Due to his low quality fillings and incomplete removal of my cavities, I am in a situation where all of my molars need to have all new deep fillings and nearly multiple root canals. (There were cavities left under his crumby fillings, so the tooth was secretly decaying.) Luckily my new *quality* dentist was able to save all of my teeth, but due to the damage after 3 years of service from Mr Guttman, I will need at least one crown and still have two molars in danger of needing a root canal. His staff is also fairly rude and very unprofessional. A true mom and pop practice, in the worst way. I will say, Mr Guttman was very pleasant, and friendly, but his dental care is subpar. read more

Beyond 5 stars for Dr. Guttman and his team!! I hadn't been to the dentist in over 2 years because I no longer had PPO insurance after I changed jobs. I found Dr. Guttman on Yelp and chose him from the reviews and proximity to my house. I was the Guinea pig for my fiancé and best friend as they were looking for a new dentist as well. I went for a full check up, x-rays, deep cleaning, cavity and teeth bleaching for my upcoming wedding. I was not disappointed. Debbie took great care of me and cleaned up my teeth. I felt like I had a brand new mouth by the time I left. She was very thorough and got to every nook and cranny. She also handled my impressions for teeth whitening and you can tell she knows what she's doing. Aside from the great dental work, she is great fun to chat with and makes you feel right at home. Dr. Guttman took care of my cavity in no time. I think I was outta there in no more than 15 minutes. Since my cavity was so minor, I was advised I could go through the procedure without Novocaine. I took the doctor's advice and hardly felt a thing. Dr. Guttman was so gentle. He fixed me right up and I never felt any pain before, during or after! The price for their work is totally reasonable and the quality is superb. They are the absolute best! I sent my best friend and fiancé to have their procedures done and now we're all converted loyal patients of Dr. Guttman's. I had a horrific experience where I contacted a bad gum infection from a shiester dentist several years ago. The infection ran through my while mouth and I was in horrific pain. I was terrified to go back to a new dentist! (I already was dental phobic before this bad dental experience!) After several consultations with other dentists, they all told me I would probably lose all my teeth. I found Dr. Guttman through an add that catered to "dental chickens" and called. Everyone from the receptionist (Paula, who's so compassionate) to his Hygienist Debbie and especially Dr. Guttman, we're simply amazing!! Kind, compassionate, calm and worked with me on price. Dr. Guttman is new to me, as he took over a Dental practice that I have been going to for almost 20 years. I have been lucky enough to not need much dental work (no cavaties), just cleanings... until now. I waited a long time between x-rays and cleanings, and ended up needing a root canal and some fillings. So, at almost 50 years old, there I was.... major dental work needed and a new Dentist to boot! Of course the staff that I've known for years is there- Paula at the front, Debbie skillfully assisting in the back. They are great and everyone there put me at ease. I have to say, though I didn't know what to expect- Dr. Guttman was great! Very gentle and caring, and explained what he was doing before he did it. That put me at ease, so I would know what to expect. I really like his gentle nature and caring attitude. I am very happy with the whole proceedure and how well it went. My crown fits great, the fillings look great, and I know that my mouth is in good hands. Also, I like the little touches, like text and email reminders for appointments. I have been a patient of Dr. Guttman for a few years now. I was first recommended to him by my dad. He is very personable, gentle, and is phenomenal at what he does. He used to work in the city of Montebello, but when I called to make a routine check-up, I found out that he had moved to a different location. I was shocked and bummed out when I first found out it was about 40 minutes away vs the usual 15...but, I do only have to go twice a year, right? Shouldn't be so bad... I definitely was reluctant to change dentists, so the same day I found out the bad news, I made an appointment at the new office in Playa Del Rey. The receptionist was very accommodating with my schedule. She even called to confirm my appointment a couple of days ahead, and when I showed up early for it, they were able to bump up my appointment! How fantastic is that? The office itself is homey, modern, and the staff is very friendly. The whole process was not long, and on my way back home, I drove on the coast. (which is only a minute away from the office!) Gorgeous view!!! That sure was an added bonus =) All in all, it was great to see Dr. Guttman move on to a more exceptional dental office. He also did not try to sell me on anything or push appointments on me. His staff is super accommodating and not in a hurry. I can't say enough positive things about Dr. Guttman. I had been avoiding the dentist for a while and was very apprehensive about addressing some dental issues. I've had a really wonderful experience with Dr. Guttman which has kept me going back to take care of everything. Here are some of the things that I've appreciated. 1) He and his team are really kind and non-judgmental. 2) He took the time to explain what I needed to have done, what my options were and what the steps in a full treatment plan would be. 3) I experienced no pain, during any of the work that I had done. 4) When referring me to an oral surgeon he took the time to explain my options and to share what he would do if he was making the decision for himself. 5) During procedures, he always explains what is happening and checks in to see how I am doing. 6) When I had a dental emergency while at work, he made calls to oral surgeons to get me in to see someone right away. Please, I implore you... not only as a fellow dental patient and medical care-seeker, but as a simple honest human being that doesn't like to be ripped off 6 ways from sunday. Keep your mouth as far away from 211 Culver Blvd as possible. I made the cliche mistake of rushing an appointment w/o shopping around based on pain factor only. I haven't been to the dentist in way too long & have no insurance, but $110 for a consultation & solo x-ray surpasses outrageous. When I called the next day to request a full receipt (that I should've got originally), the secretary literally laughed a little bit at the notion. I don't usually write reviews, and they're positive when I do. But after my experience here, I developed a deep moral need to try to stop this vulture from doing this to others. I suppose the most effective part of his medical treatment was that the bill is meant to take food out of my mouth so there's less to chew. His predecessor, the retired Robert Nolan of the same address, was apparently notorious for similar con-artistry (back up & check THOSE reviews). He's probably just doing time somewhere. So unless there's somebody out there, maybe a long-time local that actually does get minimally standard or even quality treatment and doesn't care about throwing away money, be my guest and continue your business here, because there will be one less person in that waiting room. read more

Dr Guttman is everything you can want in a dentist, esp if you're afraid of dental work. He's very gentle, asks how you're doing, explains things and doesn't push your mouth around like some do. You can tell he's an extremely kind person, it shows, and I'm so grateful that he's here in my neighborhood. I'm most fearful of dental injections and he's the best, definitely doesn't go barging in there saying 'Hold still, open wider'. He is informed and up to date on things including my medical condition which matters to me; his work on me so far---crowns and some fillings---has been perfect, not even needing bite adjustments later. Debbie, his assistant and hygienist is always fabulous and fun and distracting, the team knows how to keep us fraidy-cats from freaking out. My negative dental experiences are faded even if I'd rather have major surgery than my teeth cleaned-- but they have nitrous oxide for the cleaning which at least keeps me in the chair. Dr. Guttman is amazing! What's really amazing is that I'm writing a review for a dentist. I love having nice teeth, but I don't like going to the dentist. My brother was raving about how professional and nice he was, and most importantly he is a gentle dentist. My brother and I are "dental chickens", and lucky for us Dr. Guttman caters to dental chickens. Hallelujah. I had been going to the same dentist for 20 years, but I was looking for a dentist that was as nice, and gentle as my dentist, but more convenient and where I didn't have to pay $18-$20 to park each time. Dr. Guttman's office is convenient, cozy, comfortable, and FREE parking. It's like being in a living room, all he needs is a fireplace and it would be perfect (I guess that's a little much for a dental office), but you get my drift. Listen to this he is open for business two Saturdays a month - OMG! I had an appointment on a Saturday to have all of my old silver fillings taken out and refilled with white fillings. Well let me tell you, I took these two little pills at 7:00 am, my appointment was at 8:00 am. My husband drove me to the office, and the next thing I remember is getting up from my bed to get some water. It was wonderful. I had not consciously endured all of the medieval tools that are used in dentistry, and my mouth is beautiful. Now this you will not believe - Dr. Guttman called me on Saturday (I was told) and on Sunday to see how I was doing. Dr. Guttman is my new dentist, and (not to be outdone) my husband has moved over to this dentist as well. We are very pleased with Dr. Guttmanand his staff. I wish it were possible to give zero stars. Unfortunately I will have to settle for one star. This afternoon, I took my 18 year old daughter to Dr. Guttman's office. Let me say... not a good experience. Here are just a few reasons: In the waiting room, we were given a form that had coffee spilled over multiple pages. When I asked for a different one, I was told by the gal that she did not have any others. Dr. Guttman was standing there and said "Well that's pretty cheesy". She ended up copying the form, in order to give us a non-coffee-covered form. Next, price. My daughter has received pretty great care from Western Dental for years, but she just hates going to the dentist. Hence the reason to try Dr. Guttman, since he seemed to specialize in that area. Well, $85 at Western Dental gives you x-rays, an exam and a cleaning. $365 is Dr. Guttman's charge for the exact same thing. Next, they stopped taking x-rays in order to take her for the cleaning. The two gals kept saying something about "having enough time". It sounded like my daughter was only allotted a certain amount of time for the entire visit. I quizzed the gals about this, several times. I felt that they then ganged up on me in their explanation. Maybe I'm wrong here, but for services that cost almost 5 times the cost I was used to, I guess I expected to be treated with civility. My mistake. Next, Dr. Guttman felt it necessary to review each issue at length, pointing out the x-rays in such excruciating detail, that I had to take issue with him too. It felt as though he was scolding and preaching. Not cool. There's more, but I'll stop here. I'm sorry, but there is only so much figurative punching a person can take before they've had enough. I consider myself a very non-confrontational type of person, but I made more than a few comments to the bunch of them. Bottom line: DON"T GO. read more

Dr Guttman is such a gentle personality and he made my procedure so easy that I did not actually require the sedation i thought i would need. He is kind and warm hearted and professional. I experienced no pain after the novocain injections. He answered all my questions and I left the procedure completely satisfied with my care. I am not one who easily welcomes change! My grandson is still teaching me how to use my iPad ...he's three. So I was a litle apprehensive when Dr. Guttman took over the practice from my former dentist who retired. I even tried to convince him to skip his golf game to come into the office and treat me. I am soooo glad he refused. Because I've now learned two valuable lessons ...change is inevitable, and Dr. Guttman is GREAT!! I've had dental problems since I started teething as a toddler! Naturally, since every trip to the dentist ended up with me in tears as a child and young adult I developed a pretty big case of the jitters around going to the dentist - sick to my stomach, shaky, teary - all your classic anxiety symptoms. My fear of the dentist would normally keep me away just long enough to have a relatively small dental issue grow into a pretty severe one. Then I met Dr. Guttman. I went to Dr. G to have some previous work fixed up and was immediately put at ease. He is calm, honest, and matter-of-fact without being pessimistic or critical. He is very friendly and approachable but still a professional - bringing a very welcoming vibe to the office. The office staff - Paula and Debbie - are amazing. They're what brought me into the office and now Dr. G's attitude and approach actually make me WANT to come back and get all of my dental issues resolved! I recently had a root canal done by Dr. Guttman and, having had several in the past by other dentists, I have to say I'm completely satisfied by the quality of work - both inside my mouth and through the whole support and follow-through process. My daughter attends LMU and had dental pain that needed attention. We live in Philadelphia, so I made some calls to several area dentist based upon reviews.
