One word: Awesome! There's no doubt that if you're reading this, you too were drawn in by the "No Reservations - Southie Edition" love from Anthony Bourdain and the Travel Channel. As a matter of fact, another patron uttered a deep-voiced "No Reservations" in conversation with a friend during lunch. Here's my take: Best Qualities: dirt cheap prices, quick service, killer subs made with quality ingredients. Not-so-good qualities: Not the cleanest sub shop, but its a small joint on W Broadway in Southie, what the hell can you expect? My Recommendation: Egg Salad w/ bacon and onions. Even the small subs was a large offering of tasty egg salad, seasoned almost perfectly, with onions and perfectly cooked thick-sliced bacon (crispy, but not burnt). Overall: 4.3/5. The Italian sub and pizza roll were good, not the best ever but pretty good. The people were friendly. The only thing that I didn't like was the girl who was working had her mask pulled down and was talking to someone handing the food and she was talking directly over the food. The food she talked into were someone's sub they were making and the toppings that they put into subs. Everyone else had their mask on except for her. She also drank from her cup over the food too and it just didn't seem safe to me especially with covid going on. Luckily she didn't come near my food that was being prepared or else I wouldn't have eaten it. They should be practicing safety precautions here and they are not. read more

Rondo's was by FAR my favorite place that I went to eat when I was visiting Boston. A perfect little hole in the wall attracted me to Rondo's. When I stepped into Rondo's, I was immediately greeted with warm smiles by all of the employees by the counter. It's an order as you go system, where you say what you want and they make it in front of you. I had a hard time choosing what to eat because I wanted a cold cut because it was so hot outside. I was teetering between the chicken and tuna salad, when the BEST employee there suggested the crab salad on a hoagie roll. If you ask, they can try their selection of meats/cheeses/etc before ordering. So I tried the crab salad, and I highly, highly recommend. It has the seafood element that you crave from a Boston establishment. I can see Rondo's getting very busy at peak times. So if you would like to sit down, you may be hard-pressed to find one. The prices are very reasonable considering most items are home-made and there are many people working at the same time. Rondo's is a great little spot for a quick meal during the work-day! read more

I'm not going to lie; I saw this place on No Reservations. I knew that the next time I was in town, that I HAD to go there. It's a small local joint, so I stuck out like a sore thumb. Yes, I was there because of Mr. Bourdain, but I didn't care. When it comes to food, there's no shame to my game! I am still learning my way around Southie and just happened to pass by this place on my way to the T station. I was on my way to work and just needed to grab something quick. It doesn't look like much from the outside (or on the inside either for that matter). The subs are good, real good. My favorite is the tuna and that seems to be my standard go-to when I order from there. The place is nothing fancy at all and reasonably priced. It is definitely a local mom and pop joint that probably hasn't been updated since they first opened their doors. OMG!!! best steak and cheese sub! This place beats Philly cheesesteaks I had from Philly and the sandwiches I had in and out-of-town. It's the shredded steak and the mushrooms were soft not squishy and oh so yummy. I saw Nick F.'s review and for some reason just ordered his concoction of a steak and cheese he reviewed on 11- 25 -13 (I am usually plain and order steak cheese with just lettuce and mayo but today I wanted to be daring and try to eat it like one of my fellow yelpers!) and dayummmm it was just so delicious. I really respect this place because other inexpensive lunch options don't have the same caliber of speed, service, and quality product. It's clear they take great pride in their food and service. Winners include the steak and peppers (don't forget to add cheese!), and hot pastrami sandwiches (if sodium isn't a concern). All sandwiches are improved by the hot pepper spread, which can be added liberally, or on the side. I just moved in down the street and holy fuck is Rondo's good. Idk what they put in their steak bomb sub, but it's absolutely incredible. The large is HUGE, stacked with tender meat, oozy cheese, perfectly grilled veggies, and a nicely toasted piece of bread. I had dreams that night of this sub and will have to resist the urge to order one every time I walk home to my apartment. Third time in this cozy southie spot. Got the pepper steak with cheese. Prety good, lots of meat and much better than subway down the street. Odd that I still had to add lots of salt and pepper even though the chef asked if I wanted my seasoned (I said yes). Only two qualms. First, cheese is extra (50 cents?) on my pepper steak. Kinda expect to be part of the steak & pepper sub. Maybe it's just me ~(^.^~) ~(^.^)~ (~^.^)~ Second, hygiene practices is iffy. I know it's an anaethema to write a bad review about this place, but hear me out: I came in during not-that-bad lunch rush (a little bit of a line), but this place was clearly incapable of handling any sort of traffic. I had a good 20 minutes to watch the staff run around in mild panic, and nothing seemed to be operating very smoothly (I even got the wrong change from one harried employee, although the mistake was corrected after I pointed it out) That wouldn't be so bad, but the cleanliness of the place was terrible. One moderately short and very obese employee actually had her stomach, covered in a filthy apron resting on the sandwich cutting board/prep area whenever she stood in front of it. As if that wasn't bad enough, every time she leaned over to get a sandwich ingredient, her entire front side was actually laying across the food prep table. This happened over and over again, as I watched her prepare sandwiches. I watched her wipe her hands on her shirt repeatedly, watched her apron rub up against everything in the store, thinking "that's what's touching the food surfaces." Not exactly appetizing. I watched employees handle money, counting dollar bills, and then go directly to touching food, without gloves. Glove use seemed sporadic at best, and gloves were not changed between handling raw meat to handling the spatulas, and then people would go from handling spatulas to handling fresh food. Totally disgusting. The sandwich was alright. I've had equally good steak sandwiches at a number of shops, and there wasn't anything that stood out in particular. read more

Just had a chicken salad sub here and it was terrible. Chewy old tasting roll, dark meat that didn't taste right.. just bad. The owners are very nice, and I've had decent (not terrific though) food here before, so I added an extra star. Liberty Bell up the street remands my go to for subs on West Broadway. read more

I usually call about 15 to 30 minutes ahead of the time I get there because so many people go there for lunch some days.
