Friends of ours are members of Thousand Trails and stay here for weeks when they are in the area. We wanted to be able to hang out with them so we booked a two night stay at a tent site with some other friends. Overall I think we had a good experience. We did stay on the tail end of the bad air quality alerts from the wildfires in Canada. There was also a storm forecast for the Saturday (the second day of our stay). We had one person in our party with asthma and we asked if the storm was really bad and the air quality was bad on Saturday if there was any possibility of a partial or full refund for the second night and they said there were no exceptions to their policy of "no refunds for an early check-out". We still checked in and Friday was great. The kids had a great time in the pool and they started playing cards a lot in the pavilion. Unfortunately Saturday did bring some VERY heavy rain and couple of us in our party got quite a bit of rain inside the tents. One family ended up having to pack up and go home because everything was drenched. Of course that isn't the fault of the campground as it is the quality of the tent, etc. The tent sites are pretty spacious and out of the way from where most of the RVs are, which was really nice. The main reason for subtracting a star is because I think the price of the tent sites is pretty high. $81/night for each site is expensive if one family is using it. We had 5 families sharing 2 tent sites, which made it more reasonable, but I would never pay to stay at this campground if I wasn't able to share the cost. Also, I wish there were a few more options to hang out in a group when the weather is bad. read more

I would not come back. I used to come here every summer for 2 weeks with my dad - 25 years ago. Like came 10 summers in a row. Had so much fun. There was so much to do. There is almost nothing for the children to do now. People were smoking at the pool at the chairs. In the cabin - only 3 out of 4 burners worked. The pots and pans - including the handles - were fully metal - and yet there were no pot holders. I burned my hand while trying to drain a pot. It takes forever for the air conditioners to work. The ones in the wall I guess no longer work so they put window ones in - and they take up a lot of valuable space - in the bedroom you can't even walk around it to get to that side of the bed. You have to climb in the bed. If you use the two air conditioners and the oven at the same time - the power trips. So I had to flick the power back on multiple times during meal time. That was terribly inconvenient. They give you 1 roll of toilet paper - when we booked 3 nights for 6 people. The water smells like rotten eggs. It was awful. Taking a shower you never felt clean becuase of that. I had to buy bottled water to cook with as the taste was awful. The rec center was so dark.... Could barely see. Spent $50 on game cards and the kids won absolutely nothing - so the games are all obviously rigged. (There are like 5 games anyways.....) You can only rent balls/pool noodles/fun things on certain days of the week - which of course didn't include the days we were there. The best part of this was the creek.... And that's just nature. Not something that Rondout has control over so I can't even give the credit to them for it! read more

We've been camping here for years, and while the activity center for kids and adults has had its ups and downs, this year has truly been a game-changer! There have been so many fantastic improvements, with a wide variety of fun daily activities like crafts, live music, community campfires, movie nights, baseball, cornhole, and more. The staff this season has been especially outstanding--friendly, helpful, and full of energy. It's been such a refreshing experience. I highly recommend camping here! read more

First time camping (glamping really) here and it's not the worst but not the very best either. One concern was that we booked two cabins and requested it next to each other which customer service had confirmed. But upon arrival it was not followed through. Long story short, we explained that the neighboring cabins are all empty anyway at the moment so why not book us right next to each other. We were accommodated only after speaking to the manager. Next was that our air conditioning did not work. But again to cut short, they were able to provide us with two window airconditioners which worked out it the end and kept us comfortable. Dont get me wrong, all the staff we interacted were nice and polite, it's just that you know - first impressions about the place... The cabin also did not come with a grilling area - that is a first for us. All the cabins for every campsite we've been to ALWAYS had a grill. We borrowed an unused one from the empty/renovated cabin and brought a grill from Walmart nearby. I appreciated that there's a fan on the porch though. And like what other reviewers mentioned, there're a lot of seasonal and long termers here which meant most areas were occupied. And it wouldve been nice if the cabins we rented werent in between these long termers. Why? because they easily complain of noise (which they did with us) and our "sofa" that we "left outside"..uh hello its an inflatable sofa and is for outdoors. Seriously it kinda ruined the mood with some of these nosy "neighbors". Anyway i'll stop with the ranting lol so Yup, it's not the most fun camping experience and there isnt much to do. Not for me anyway...they do have a pool, playground, a dirty pond, a nice stream, basketball court, and some special events. Glad Arrowood Farm was close by. We had both a campsite and cabin. The cabin mattress was badly stained and worn out - could not sleep on it. There is no wifi and very limited (1 bar) cell service. They nickel and dime you with extra charges - $20 for guest, $5 just to receive a package. There was a good band Saturday night and a nice pool. read more

Was *this* close to leaving an improved review, but, sadly this place is STILL a crap hole. Was here a couple years ago and vowed never to go back. Family talked me into it, as we are all part of Thousand Trails. I was assured new management had improved the campground. Not true. 80% of the campground appears to be seasonal or full time. They spend their days screaming at passers by. The speed limit for cars is 5 mph , but for ebikes and the 800 golf carts there appears to be no limit. Apparently, children as young as 10 or so have free reign with the golf carts with no adult supervision. Please, try yogi Bear in Gardiner, or the Koa in Modena. read more

We arrived this past Friday and were staying for Father's Day Weekend. I cannot say enough great things about this place! We were 4 adults, 2 toddlers). We rented a cabin and were so pleasantly surprised when we got there. The cabins have recently been renovated so they are all brand new. Fully stocked with everything we would need for the weekend like dishes & cooking supplies, dish towels, pot holders, even veggie peelers and strainers. Coffee machine, toaster and microwave all included. Full bathroom. Very clean! The staff was extremely nice and we had no issues with any of them. Everyone was very helpful. In back of the cabins was a beautiful stream. And in the front we had our own firepit with grill attached and picnic table. The kids honestly had such a blast running around! There is an awesome kiddy park where our toddlers loved to play (they are also building another new one for older kids next to it). On Saturday night they had a great dj come and play music. The pool was under renovation during our stay, but that's ok as we went to a gorgeous swimming area right down the road from the campgrounds (walking distance). The convenience store had DVDs to rent and things like syrup and sugar that we forgot to buy earlier. The adult lounge had cable tv and a pool table, along with a few games. They are doing a lot of construction to update the place and make it really nice. We had a great time and will absolutely be returning! read more

We loved staying at Rondout Valley Campground. The staff were delightful to interact with. The was clean even if things where worn and old. My only complain on the cleanliness fronts where under the sofa in the cabin where the baby could still reach was pretty grubby. Babies always find the grossest thing and go right for it. We felt safe with our older children out and about on bikes. The bounce pad was a unexpected joy. The bench by it in the shade was spot on perfection. All the essentials where available in the camp store. The snack bar was fab and I wish I discovered it's wonders sooner. The kids and I got a breakfast and bounced while my spouse did final checks before hitting the road. That burrito was so good! All and all a great stay. We will be back. There's so many good local sights and natural wonders near by. I love the area. read more

Zero stars, Do not waste any money on any thousand trails. The company itself is corrupt, and has faced many class action lawsuits. We were forced to buy out a discount in order to cancel our camping pass. As far as Rondout Valley, weed smell everywhere so be prepared to tell you're children they have a skunk issue on the property. Fights break out prompting response from State Police, bounce pillow not open on time due to hungover employees. Up charge for children activities, garbage blowing about the field. Electric system that fried our Power chord. They are increasing all their rates, this place is a dump. read more

Arrived earlier this week. Our first impression mud and standing water. Not great way to start when you have dogs. Gravel could fix the water puddles and mud here. Bathrooms. OMG. Nasty! I noticed the person signs the sheet everyday that they cleaned them. Not!! There wasn't toilet paper half the time. Toilets were backed up but people keep using them anyway. Trash wasn't emptied for 5 days. Really smells in the restrooms. Using their showers? Bring water shoes. Do not let your bare feet touch the floor! Glad we have our own bathroom in our RV. Laundry room had trash piled up. Needed swept. There is a sitting room next to laundry at entrance. Very dirty. Floors looked like they haven't been vacuumed in months! Only one light works. Lamps are unplugged and have no light bulbs in them. Playground near my side is out of date. Playground by pool very nice. Pool seems nice. I didn't use it. Rec and snack bar area. Not much to it. Unfriendly staff in this area. Staff in front office was nice. Staff or riding around on golf carts were nice. Mini golf has been let go. What a mess! Can't believe they refer to this as a resort. I know I'm staying here free. But the Thousand Trails membership wasn't free. Over 3K for the membership that bragged resort type RV parks. Most have been. This one just junk! We've camped here 2 times and always have had a great time. They do themed weekends and we stayed during a Christmas weekend and a yard sale weekend. It was nice seeing most of the regulars decorate their campers for Christmas and loved shopping during the yard sale. They also have dance parties at night and a great pool. The only thing I dislike is there is very little privacy. Camper sites are all in one large field. You don't get a real camping feel while sleeping in a field. read more

We stayed here in a 40' motorhome w/4 slides. Site #20. Extremely narrow, long enough, but our neighbors sewer was right at the edge of our carpet. The water turned our filters yellow in a matter of a day. Also, the water smelled awful. We used bottled for us and our dog. No cable, no ability to get satellite. On rainy days, that's an issue. As full timers, there's a limit to how long you can say "oh, we don't watch tv, we're here for the outdoor experience ", lol. Staff very friendly. Park is pretty but we won't return. Can't get around the water issue. read more

We have stayed at Rounout Campground at least four times already and booked for this coming April. We love it there. There are plenty of things to do, it's clean, the staff are amaxzing, we love the snack shop and have had great times there. Can't wait to go again this year. read more

I guess timing is everything because we didn't have any of the problems/issues some of the other reviewers claim to have had. We had a very good experience. Truly no issues with anything. The store staff is typical of 1000 Trails staff (if you know what I mean) but they weren't rude. They were renovating their pool so that was closed. Since it was just my husband and I camping, it didn't effect us. We didn't see any signs of local police being called in as one reviewer experienced. We enjoyed the historical sites in the area (Hyde Park) and local winery. We are planning on going back and I hope it's as enjoyable as the first time. read more

We arrived on a Friday night for our adventure weekend -- hiking, biking, and wine. The website talked about a regular place for outdoorsy types, but they totally lied. When we arrived, we were met by a possibly drunk man that checked us in. As we drove to our site, we were screamed at by multiple drunk "King of the Hill" types, "Five Mile Per Hour!!" EVEN WHEN WE WERE DRIVING 5 MILES PER HOUR. Our cabin was filthy. It smelled musty and old, the carpet was stained, and the beds were absolutely horrifying. Luckily we had to bring our own bedding so there was some sense of cleanliness. The place is jammed with RVs, many stay all season, some live there permanently. The advertised "Adult Lounge" is just a musty common area that has out dated books. I say NO to Rondout Valley Resort! read more

Facilities are poorly maintained. Garbage on ground through entire campground. Bathrooms are ALWAYS filthy and in poor shape. The "snack" bar employees are always grumpy and do not wash hands after handling money out scooping Ice cream. Employees appear unmotivated, usually standing around smoking. Stayed for a night to test out our new RV. Very clean bathrooms and friendly staff. Beautiful pool. Not crowded but we stayed in September. Don't have a lot of sewer hook ups at the sites but have 2 waste stations and a honey truck 3x per week. read more

After many years of camping at Rondout Valley, I can no longer recommend it to others. The change in management has caused such an extreme amount of chaos in one season. That I absolutely refuse to stay until things return to normal. Not only is the campground charging double for septic pump out, but in addition they are no longer allowing you to move to a full hookup site when one becomes available. The new manager has no regard for members, and zero interest in working with us. Instead it seems he's there to create unnecessary challenges for everyone. He's extremely rude and inconsiderate. When questioned about the reasoning for these bizarre changes in policy, he has nothing logical to say. Travelers should be warned that you are no longer even allowed to park within the gates awaiting check in.. You will be left out on the road, and told to go elsewhere. It is extremely unprofessional & these new policy changes are causing nothing but frustration for members. There is nowhere local to park as you await check in time.. and the manager could care less about the inconvenience he is causing. Members have been forced to park out on the main road, & I'm told have been fined as a result. In addition to the many unnecessary changes taking place.. The new software the manager insists on using will now dictate your campsite. Groups traveling together will likely be split up throughout the park. Making it extremely challenging to socialize. Staff members say there's no override to this. These changes will take effect in 2024, if not sooner. I didn't think it could get worse than the 2022 camp season when Wayne took over... but he never ceases to amaze me with his arrogance and inability to make the best decisions for the camping community. I would give a zero star if possible! Went here last summer I'm a family of 6 so we rented out one of the small bungalow/trailer/house whatever you wanna call it. Started out bad at check in. I go and pay for 2nights now it says check out is 11am I believe and I was there at 1 to pay and they said I would have to return at 5pm to check in bc I guess their expert cleaning crew needs 5 hrs to clean. I couldn't go in the park and wait maybe let my kids out to run after the trip or go swimming while we wait since I already paid, nope the "manager" I guess told us we had to wait till 5pm. They do require everyone to wear masks except for the heavy lady that says she's a manager I guess she is above wearing a mask. My kids were not able to use the pool bc with COVID they only allow a certain number of ppl in the pool and you have to sign up the day before you want to go and the so called manager jus happened to forget to tell us that when checking in but was sure to tell us empty the trash smfh. So by the time my kids got to sign up all the regulars that come every year had already taken every spot. They should have a set time apart for ppl that are renting the houses so we get to use the pool also. So bc all the playgrounds were closed as well as the courts and arcade and we couldn't get a time to go swimming so we paid for 2 nights and got to stay in a filthy and I mean DIRTY smelly trailer with no tv connection and no WiFi also( they were having "issues")total waste of my money I guess if you're a regular that comes every year it might be ok but if you're jus looking for a weekend getaway or more I suggest you look elsewhere bc since they got new owners it really sucks and I'm a lifetime resident of the area I used to love bringing my fam here for camping over the summer but now I will be finding another camp ground. And as we were checking out and packing our car up at 11am another family was checking into the trailer next to us at 11AM!!! So I guess it's whoever the piggie feels like letting check in early or not, she didn't tell that family of 3 to come back at 5pm for check in smfh what a place this is now read more

I visited this place with family during the summer. What a disappointment since we'd been here many years ago. The staff was inconsiderate and didn't seem to comprehend or want to fix our complaints. After waiting 3 months to get a reservation for the two weeks before labor day we got a spot. Pulled into a 4 star park (who does the ratings?) and had a spot that was fair a little bit off of pool pass. Our first day was pretty good till we woke up the next morning to two barking dogs and 4 cars on a site. They must have been new to camping because with the exception to a 15 year old plus camper all their outside stuff was brand new. They strung about40 feet of lights about 3 foot off the ground. The hospitality people (guard) even though they rode by numerous times never said a word about the two large barking dogs or the 4 vehicles parked on the site. A campground that we thought would be great turned out to really suck because no one enforces the rules. read more

Where do I begin? 1)our site had a huge puddle right in the middle of the site, pretty much right by the steps of our camper. The puddle eventually drained, but left a large area of mud. I had to go to Walmart to buy another rug to cover that up. There is not nearly enough gravel on these sites to help with the puddles. Put down more gravel! 2) we enjoyed the occasional waft of septic odor all weekend long. This was not due to anyone around us dumping their tanks....it just stinks there. Additionally, the water smelled of sulfur. Awesome. 3) no cable. Apparently this was due to some sort of change to cable providers and they were on strike?? 4) why can't this campground operate like almost every other campground and allow guests to reserve specific sites? We were camping with my sister and her family and because we didn't arrive at the same time we were not near each other. Thankfully we were able to get a full hookup site and weren't out in the field where there is no septic. This campground has such potential. But unless some improvements are made, I won't be back. read more

Selected this park, based upon other reviews. Price was much higher than comparable RV parks and I was expecting a great experience accordingly. Check in process was clumsy. Took us to our site and it was a mudhole. You cannot select site in advance, unlike most other parks. Also, neighbors dog barked incessantly and though we complained nothing was done. On our 4th night, we used the fire ring in the next site to avoid the dog barking. This triggered security to stop by and inquire. We told them the issue. Unfortunately, they told the owner it was us, as he came for a visit, which was uncomfortable. Dog kept barking. The staff apologized, but sometimes more than an apology is needed. On a positive side, location to various outdoor activities (hiking, fishing, breweries, etc.) was good. Restrooms were clean. We camped at Rondout Valley Resort in a Travel Trailer. read more

Good campground. We only stayed for 1 night as we were passing by but met our needs. Playground was nice for the kids. They had a DJ playing music and a little block party going on. Right at 10 pm everything quoted down. Campground was a little tight for parking and all sites seem to be back-in only. Staff very very friendly and accommodating. I booked this location after we used Thousand Trails for Yosemite and the cabin was wonderful. Sadly this was not the same experience AT ALL. First: the water smells like sulphur -- previous reviews are not exaggerating it. Bring plenty of bottled water! Also: bring everything -- no joke. When we stayed at Yosemite there was bedding, towels, plenty of kitchen cookware, utensils, coffee filters, ... all we did was bring our groceries and clothes. Not here. Bring EVERYTHING you think you might need bc it will not be in the "deluxe" model. For example, we had only 4 salad forks in the drawer to use with the gigantic spoons and knives. The mini-golf was an abandoned disaster. The afternoon we arrived (a Friday) the pool was empty and locked by 5:30pm. On Saturday there was a pig roast in the pavillion area ($$$) with singing (karaoke?) lasting well beyond the posted quiet hours. Maybe the regulars didn't care but we vacationing hikers DID. Also the deluxe cabins with screen porches are on the main thoroughfare for vehicles, bikes, and the foot path to the main common area. We heard voices and yelling at ALL hours. This was not an especially peaceful or private location if that's what you want. The benefits of choosing this cabin were NEVER having to see what the campground bathroom looked like and being able to prepare our own food. read more

i was expecting a friendlier atmosphere . the staff was rude ( rather bossy) as if i was bothering them . not sure what that was all about . i used to go there (when it was privately owned) to attend the the catskill mtn bluegrass fest , if it rained it flooded about 1/2 the campground ... but thats camping for ya ... now its corporate owned and as well as can be expected they lost that personal touch . meaning they are out of touch and could care less . i would prefer not to go back again as its my time to relax and meet nice people along the way . Local resident of Ulster County camping for my moms birthday ! We were very happy excited to try a new campground out, but IF WE ONLY KNEW ! It started as a cluster in the office checking in ! Than while driving through the campsite the campers were on top of each other ! We arrived at our campsite and we might as well camp with our neighbors ( that's how close we were, and we are friendly people) So we are trying to make the best of our experiences and the other campers are loud inconsiderate and have no manners ! We woke up to find other camper's feces and used toilet paper all around the grounds ! No wonder the bathroom wasn't stocked because the toilet paper was all over the campsites ! If you are into everything I listed above you've found the right campground BUT IF NOT KEEP LOOKING ! read more

Best of the three 1000 Trails Campgrounds that we have been to so far. The sites are spacious. Some are wooded a d some are out in the open. Great pool and public areas. We would definitely return for another stay in the future. read more

I love this place! Everything is so neat and clean. The staff is friendly and professional. The grounds are well maintained. The air smells like cinnamon. Bathrooms are cleaned regularly and the showers are hot. The permanent residents maintain their sites very well--no tarp covered stuff. Just charming park models. There is a wonderful friendly atmosphere, people slow way down here. I've been to a lot of parks across the country. This is one of the best parks I've ever stayed at. read more

We camp six months of the year. We are so disappointed. Full amenities do not include sewer. Wait They have no sewer hook ups. After seeing all the sewer hook ups yep they do. Dont try to reserve one. They don't care. First come first serve however we were assigned a campground site. Thousand trails blames the manager and the manager blames them. The dj is so loud that it is rocking our 40 ft fifth wheel. I asked to please turn it down and he said it gets worse and louder at 930. Says we can turn up our music that loud. Whaaaaat. Quiet hour is from 10:30 to 7 and we can rock our music at seven am. Not a campground for kids. This is our third bad experience at thousand trails. Granted it is labor day weekend and it is a party loud time. We love music but not rocking bad dj concert. They have a pump out service for ten dollars. If the rep had told us there are few sewers then we would have not come here. Blame tT again. We are stuck in the middle. read more

As s full time RVer we've camped in most states and many other Thousand Trail parks. This park is poorly managed, dogs off leashes, trash not picked up, and ghetto blasters going past midnight. The sites are VERY poorly laid out with the hookups at the very back requiring a minimum of 20 ft of sewer assuming you can get your RV close enough. Any rain leaves mud puddles throughout the park. We will not return here. read more

Water pressure and electric were faulty. STAY AWAY! There. Are much better places to stay for the money. It is not worth staying here. Have been coming here for 29 years. Flat , grassy sites, some with river views. A lot with cedar or pine trees.Walking trails, fishing, basketball court, baseball field ,mini golf, play areas for younger children. Out houses, bathrooms, shower houses. Open air pavilion, pool.Speed limit is 5 mph, to protect your children throughout the camp ground. Bands on weekends in season. Breakfast, lunch and snacks in season available. About 17 miles S of Kingston on route 209. Close to 2 farms, 1 with good selection of gluten free baked breads, bagels, coffee cakes etc. Check out Bennys pizza, better than anything in NJ! read more
