We used Rooftop Chimney Sweeps to clean 3 fireplaces (2 chimneys) for our house that we moved into in April. I was so impressed! I had actually called a different company previously (Healthy Air Solutions) and they never showed up. I should have called Rooftop to begin with; they were super professional on the phone, and were able to squeeze us in to have our fireplace ready for Christmas. It is a family-owned business, which I always appreciate. The owner Andy called to confirm my appointment the day before, and his brother Tom and another chimney sweep named Brett came to our house. They were very polite and kept our house really clean. What I appreciated most was how they took the time to explain everything. Tom very patiently explained how to maintain the fireplaces, what to look for in terms of wear, etc. They had quoted me a price for cleaning over the phone, but when they got here they ended up finding more wrong with the chimneys than a simple cleaning. They were up and down off of the roof and here for probably 3 hours. Nevertheless, the price I was quoted for cleaning is what I ended up paying. They were not the cheapest out there for a simple cleaning, but I am very satisfied with the service I received and everything that they took care of while they were out at my house (without charging me extra). Easily 5 stars. Arrived on time and went right to work, explained what was wrong with the damper in my fireplace and how to operate it correctly. No need for a chimney cleaning, but they did a full scope of the chimney and explained issues that need to be fixed should I decide to use the chimney. Had them clean out the dryer vent too! They were in and out in about an hour -- nice friendly and not trying to sell you anything you don't need. Everything about the company is very professional, from making the appointment by phone to their phone confirmation the day before, to Perry and Adam making the repair. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. An update: One day after they completed their work, i received a detailed email analysis of everything they saw and repaired, including color photos taken from and of the top of the chimney. I called Rooftop Chimney Sweeps on December 1. I wasn't able to get an appointment until January 6, 2021. I called on January 4 to confirm my appointment between 9-11 am. I also received emails to confirm my appointment. On the day of my appointment, I called to see if someone would be coming to inspect my chimney at my other property because I hadn't received a call or text from them. I spoke to someone at the call center and they said they would investigate and call me right back. One hour later, I still had not heard back from them. I called again and after 15 minutes, I was told that they scheduled me with a technician that no longer works there! During the month that I scheduled the appointment, this company did not know that the technician didn't work there and didn't think to reschedule those appointments. I asked to speak to a supervisor who didn't come to the phone and told customer service to give me a $50 discount and to reschedule my appointment for another 2-hour span the next day! I would never use this company. Their lack of detail and poor customer service does not instill confidence in their ability to do their job. These poorly run companies need to realize that people do not like wasting their time waiting for people to show up and still not get the service that was expected. There are so many other things I could have been doing rather than waiting at another home for them to show up. I would not recommend this company. We will see if the supervisor Markita actually even calls back. read more

I wish I could give these guys a bad review, but I can't. They were on time, put booties over their shoes, put drop cloths everywhere, then for $289 inspected my chimney both inside (with a GOPRO on a stick to see DEEP inside) and by climbing on the roof. Problem is, they saw cracks and missing mortar in my inner chimney tiles. Now I have to decide if I want to not use the fireplace or pay $3000 to get it relined with a stainless steel sleeve... read more

I am writing to highly recommend Rooftop Chimney Sweeps, an excellent company staffed with true professionals. By way of background, when we bought our house the home inspector recommended replacing our chimney's "rain cap", which he thought was made for a 'real' chimney (we have a prefabricated flue that vents our furnace and hot water heater) and in any event was rusted and broken. He also said that the chimney's "chase cover" was rusted beyond repair. We first called company A, who agreed that we needed a new rain cap and chase cover (and recommended sanding and painting our chase itself because the paint was flaking and was rust stained). Company A also said, however, that our flue (aka B-vent), was the original one, was in very, very bad shape and should be replaced immediately. Price - nearly $4,000. Because hearing that news and price was shocking, I called company B for a second opinion. Company B agreed we needed a new rain cap, but they said our flue was "okay," they had seen much, much worse, and it should last another 3-5 years. Company B also said they would paint my chase, but that my existing chase cover was "okay" and they would just paint it. Because I now had a split opinion, I called a third company - Rooftop Chimney Sweeps - and I am SO glad that I did that. Joni came out and performed a real inspection of both the exterior and interior of my chimney. Joni actually put a camera down the flue and took video/photos to show me its condition - unlike company B who just looked visually and company A who took a photo with a cellphone from the top. Joni agreed with company A that it was time to replace our flue, and also agreed that we should install a new chase cover and paint the existing chase. Unlike the other companies, Joni also inspected each of my appliances to determine how many BTUs each put out when operating to determine if my flue was properly sized. Crunching the numbers, it turned out that with my current configuration and the more energy efficient appliances I have now, that my 6-inch flue was too big and should be 5 inches instead. Joni then finished the job by preparing a detailed report with photos, which I greatly appreciated because I could show it to my wife so she could confirm what I had seen firsthand. So, why did we choose Rooftop Chimney Services over company A or B? Besides missing that I did need a new flue, Company B impressed me as just offering to do the bare minimum - for instance just painting my rusting chase cover rather than doing the job the right way and replacing it. I prefer to do a job the right way, so company B was out. While company A had correctly identified the need to replace my flue (as confirmed by Rooftop Chimney Services), I was impressed that Joni and Rooftop conducted a detailed inspection and thus were able to catch that I needed a smaller flue. (Lest anyone think they were blowing smoke, I took all of the figures and found a worksheet by a flue manufacturer and crunched the numbers myself to confirm that I needed a smaller sized flue.) The technician for company A had even mentioned that one reason my 6-inch flue was so corroded was because newer appliances were more efficient and so gases were not fully expelled but lingered in the flue and ate away at it over time! So, based on it having done a proper inspection and thorough analysis, we went with Rooftop Chimney Services, which ended up being cheaper than company A, too. After waiting several weeks for our chase cover to be manufactured (it's a custom fitted piece), yesterday Josh and his assistant from Rooftop Chimney Services came out to do the job. Josh was a true professional, answering each of my many questions and allowing me to interrupt him when I wanted to inspect the work that they were doing. Josh and his assistant took great care to minimize the mess and cleaned up after themselves thoroughly, they worked diligently and the end result was a chase that looked brand new from sanding and painting, a properly fitted chase cover, proper rain cap, and a correctly sized flue. The project also included replacing all of the vents from my appliances to the flue itself, which I thought was another example of how Rooftop Chimney Services does the job the right way. Finally, Josh sent a completion report once he was done which contained very helpful before vs after photos for future reference. I should also add that everyone in the office is very pleasant to talk to, which also matters a lot in my experience. A truly wonderful company and one I hope to be able to work with in the future on any other relevant projects. read more

Rooftop just cleaned my fireplace flue and did a very nice job. Quick and clean. The equipment they use (cameras) allow them -- and the client -- to see exactly how things look. They also did a review of my outside chimney masonry -- using a drone, no less!! -- and based on the great pictures the drone took I have them coming back to do needed repairs to the mortar. In the second one they transformed it to a double-sided fireplace rebuilding the firebox, forming the 2nd opening and relining the flue. The second fireplace transformation gave me some troubles until I hired Rooftop. I can't say there were no issues but they came through for me focusing on making it right. No issues here. Called Rooftop based upon a neighborhood blog recommendation. It was a superb experience. We converted a log burning fireplace into a gas log fireplace and even though the firm that installed the gas logs said we didn't need to have our chimney cleaned, we would get occasional soot smell - particularly on high humidity days. Recent rains really made the smell an issue and Rooftop used its camera to verify we needed the chimney swept. They did an excellent job - kept everything contained so that there was no soot into the living space and even corrected the log placement (the installer set them improperly). As part of their service, the technician deployed a drone to check on the integrity of the chimney cap and provided camera views of the cleaned chimney. When we need to have work performed again, Rooftop Chimney Sweeps will be our only consideration. read more

Sam at Rooftop Chimney Sweeps did some work for us earlier this year. The crew was prompt, unbelievably clean, and their quality was great. They were able to come out day after we called to do some point up work on our chimney (it was already clean). They did a nice job matching the mortar. They were a bit pricey for the amount of work they did...but, we were in a tight spot, it was within the budget (though on the upper limit), and it got done when we needed it - so the value was there. I booked an appointment with Champion Dryer Vent Cleaning (aka Rooftop Chimney Sweeps) as a result of the positive comments made here on Yelp! and wasn't disappointed! I didn't receive a call prior to the appointment, but my mom was home when he arrived so it was fine. Our dryer vent cover on the outside of the house was made of plastic and old, and it crumbled when the tech took it apart to clean the duct. Luckily he had a nice, metal one to replace it with, at a reasonable price. I'm waiting for the email with before and after photos, but the tech showed my mom and it was incredible how packed it was. We're lucky we never had a fire. Also my dryer works so much better now! We have a fairly new dryer and I thought I'd gotten a lemon because it would take several cycles to dry a load of laundry. After the service, my dryer works fantastic! The tech was extremely friendly and nice and very professional. Highly recommend! read more

This Company was fantastic. They were very polite on the phone when scheduling my appointment. They emailed me a calendar invite as a reminder (BONUS). They called a day prior to confirm and gave me a show time (not a 2 hour window). 30 minutes prior to their arrival they called and emailed because their technician had a sick child. They offered later in the day or a reschedule. I took the later in the day option. That was a time window. However, they called 30 minutes prior to let me know they were on their way. They arrived at the exact stated time. They were super efficient, amazingly clean, laying down tarps and covering their boots before coming into my less than clean house. They explained everything they were doing and told me how long it would take to clean/inspect my fireplace (appx 30 minutes). I was then shown a live video of my entire chimney. I was shown trouble spots. Digital photos were taken during the video. I received a 7 page estimate of proposed repairs with photos. I wasn't harassed or pushed to sign up for repairs on the spot (it was a week after Christmas). I paid on the spot with a cube and iPad. It was an amazingly efficient and pleasant experience. I recently had Rooftop do a dryer vent cleaning for me. The technician showed up on time and explained the process to me. First thing he did was take a photo inside the vent. Turns out my vent was almost entirely clogged up. He was very thorough in cleaning this out. He also replaced our old, cracked vent cover. And he found and plugged up an opening to the outside beside the vent that was large enough for a mouse to get through. I thought he did a super job and I'm very glad I had it done. read more

I had a bad experience using Rooftop to inspect a potential flu blockage related to newly installed gas hot water heater last month. I wanted to like them and they were friendly, but I there were several issues: 1) They had a lady at their central office who tracks their progress and calls when they're on their way. That sounded great but they still arrived 2 hours later than she said (and almost 4 hrs later than the original appointment). 2) Although the service team was very professional and seemed knowledgeable, they failed to effectively inspect the flu for the problem that I had called them about - they didn't bother to confirm that the hot water vent line was actually connected to the flu as they focused on the furnace line. They charged me $139 for a visual and a camera inspection and declared there was no blockage. Instead, they sent me an estimate of $2.5K for a liner installed to fix "negative pressure". My HVAC guy said that wasn't the issue (never seen that in 30 yrs) and, in just a couple of minutes, he discovered that the Hot Water heater vent they charged me for "inspecting" wasn't actually connected all the way to the flu - it was blocked by the flu tiles. It was a big safety issue that the Rooftop guys failed to see and they nearly got me to pay them $2.5K for something that wouldn't have helped the actual venting issue. Instead, it was a 5 minute (and $0) fix to just knock a hole through to the flu so that the gases could vent properly. 3) Subsequently, I reached out to Rooftop to tell them that their service was ineffective and I asked for a refund. I never got a response. Two stars for being some friendly local guys who may be a bit inexperienced or maybe had an off day, but next time I need chimney service I will look elsewhere. Update: The owner Andy called me today after seeing my review. He apologized for being late and not noticing the blockage. He also said that they had not been aware of my complaint (hadn't noticed my e-mail). Andy was very kind and said that he would refund my money as they should have noticed the issue during their site visit - he said that the tech has been trained to look for this issue in the future. I'll bump them up to 3 stars for the customer service. read more

Today was the second time we used Rooftop Chimney Sweeps for the annual chimney inspection and cleaning. I really cannot praise this company enough: they are very professional, knowledgeable, and provide great service. I feel I can really trust them--they recommend the best option, not the most expensive one. We had a very negative experience with another company when we just moved into our house two years ago: it was a large chain that received good reviews otherwise, but I felt I was not getting the best advice--they recommended a lot of work that was very expensive and did not sound right (the house was otherwise in great shape). I wanted a second opinion. Our wonderful realtor recommended Rooftop Chimney Sweeps as a great family firm in the area. I am so glad we called them. Our chimney is in great shape now, and we are looking forward to another winter by our fireplace. Call this firm. Wahoo! Truly as good as it gets...these guys installed my stainless steel liner for my wood burning insert that I bought from Woodburners Two (another story of it's own). However, I forgot that information and after 3 seasons of abuse, the creosote buildup blocked my chimney and the freezing cold season was here. Naturally, I searched Yelp! for reviews of chimney sweeps (Rooftop didn't appear in my first search). There was an small local sweep that was highly rated, but was so busy, they couldn't schedule anything for weeks and they only had a voicemail message. I ended up calling High's and they sent somenone out fairly quickly. However, when they arrived, they didn't have anything to protect my carpet (are you kidding?), which was the first red flag. They did an examination and declared that in their 'professional' opinion, I needed a new liner, which was going to cost me about $2800. I told him no way was I going to pay him that amount. The one good thing is they didn't charge me for a visit. After searching my records, I found my hand written note for Rooftop and a phone number. I first called Woodburners and they told me they do NOT service chimneys, only the inserts,. but Rooftop was their subcontractor for chimney work, including installation. I then called Rooftop, and a real human being answered the phone and listened to my story. She reminded me that the stainless steel liner has a lifetime warranty and assured me that they could help me out. They sent me an e-mail reminder/calendar appointment as well as a post card, and a voice mail. Kudos for their efforts at communicating! If only more service companies would do this...The 2-man crew arrived early, and they called ahead to make sure it was ok. When they arrived, one guy was holding onto a bunch of clean blankets, which they used to cover the work area. They also had booties to protect my carpet from any debris from their shoes. This was completely reassuring to me! However, since it had recently snowed, they weren't able to clean the chimney from the outside. They told me that if the blockage hadn't been resolved, they would come back when the outside conditions permitted. I tried to start a fire, and it seemed to be better, but after a few minutes, smoke started to come back into the house, so I extinguished the fire and called them to come back. On the second visit, it was a different crew, but they were just as professional as the first and took the same precautions. There was indeed blockage below the roofcap that could only be accessed from the top and they successfully removed the blockage. They even stayed while I built a fire and lo and behold, no backdraft issues. In fact, I'd swear it was better than new! I'd highly recommend Rooftop Chimney Sweeps for chimney work! read more

these guys came and inspected my chimney last fall and said that they would give me an estimate for the repairs. I've emailed them and called and they have said over and over that they would provide me with an estimate for the work. It's June and I'm still waiting!!! I would have written this off a long time ago except I keep getting mail from them with coupons for repairs. i even got an email asking me to take a customer satisfaction survey! If they would ever provide an estimate I would still consider them for the repair work but I guess they don't want my business. read more

Although we had to wait a few weeks to have Rooftop come out to diagnose our problem due to the busy winter season and some miscommunication with the receptionists/schedulers, we were very impressed by the technician (Will) they sent out. We had water leaking in behind our fireplace on the lower level of our home that we wanted to rule out was caused by our chimney. Will and his assistant were very courteous and efficient. Will was very informative and patiently answered my wife's questions and explained the ins and outs of the chimney system. He and his assistant seemed to inspect every part of our chimney inside and out and provided photos. As part of their inspection they also included a basic clean of the chimney. We felt this more than justified and made up for their diagnosis fee which another Yelper complained of. They spent quite a bit of time on the roof and even threw in a complimentary patch up of our crown showing us before and after photos. Their final determination was some water from mortar joints that need to be repointed could be contributing to our problem, but Will recommended we also have someone out to examine our foundation wall. We really appreciated Will's integrity because we followed his advice and later learned we need to waterproof our outer wall. Other chimney companies could have been dishonest and convinced us we needed $$$ in chimney repairs, but Will was straightforward and honest. Since we had to wait a few weeks to have Will out to diagnose our problem, his manager Greg adjusted their quote to make up for our wait. We really appreciated this kindness by Greg. Thus, for Greg's thoughtfulness and Will's honesty we will never consider anyone but Rooftop for our chimney needs. read more

Their initial inspection was very thorough, and the report they sent me later that day included video footage and still photos of the interior of the chimney shot with their GoPro camera. Easily one of the most professional and knowledgeable companies we have ever worked with. After getting drastically different quotes from 3 different companies, in terms of work scope and $$ needed, we called Rooftop and paid the $149 appt fee in order to have someone spend the time needed to assess the chimney situation in our new-to-us-but-older home. (We knew we were going to need thousands of dollars of work and we needed a quality estimate on how it should be done.) Tom, himself (the owner), came and quickly understood and assessed the situation, provided us with detailed information and answered all of our questions. We could tell his assessment was honest because he was so extremely knowledgeable about chimneys, how they used to be constructed, and how they are done now, etc. With his guidance and information, he helped us develop a plan; a few weeks later the crew came to do the work. They laid down white sheets everywhere and were very professional and respective, even as they did work inside our living room. My husband and I had to agree on what we wanted, and they were very patient with our (my) changing minds. We were very pleased with the work they did, their knowledge in the industry, and their responses, in terms of providing us with quotes, making appointments, showing up on time, and completing the work.
