Tried Rooney's for the first time last night in order to see a local band called Mom's Night Out. Rooney's has a nice big patio area with both a bar and lots of individual tables, with string lights above. It's a great setting for having a drink and listening to live music! I ordered the blackened grouper sandwich, which surprised me with how deliciously seasoned it was, on a nice soft bun. (I love that it comes with macaroni salad, which is less common for restaurants but is one of my favorite sides!) I also tried the peanut butter pie, which was creamy and delicious. I love a sweet drink, so I ordered the tropical tini (also great). Overall, great service/music/food!! Looking forward to visiting again! read more

The Grouper Sandwich was alright but a very thin piece of fish more like Tilapia. The Cole slaw was the worst I've ever had and the server brought me a fresh one after spitting out the original serving even though I said no and then she got snippy about how it tasted fine to her and she doesn't even like cole Slaw. No worries I will never return. read more

Nicole did an outstanding job of providing very attentive service and was mind-blowingly accurate in keeping track of everyone's orders and individual tabs. How she managed to do that with very few people staying stationary is a wonder to me. She was well supported by all the other staff who stepped up as needed. The food was delicious and the menu selection was just right. Rooney's was a great spot for us and being in the back dining room was ideal. First timer here. To sum it up....disappointing. Sat at the bar, bartender wasn't rude just not overly friendly...all business. We started with the stuffed mushrooms. Average at best, no wow factor. We both got the 10oz prime rib. Here's where it spiraled. My husband's was cut thick/even. Mine.....thin/tapered. And when I tell you there was ZERO flavor to the crust I'm not exaggerating. Like covid no taste/flavor. The only thing that made it edible was the au jus/horseradish. Otherwise I asked for med rare and got med-med well. I picked loaded baked potato and "seasonal vegetables" and before I even ordered them I thought to myself "what would a restaurant serve as a cheap vegetables? Carrots?" And guess what I got as my vege.....boiled carrots . Even tho my husband had the better cut it was still flavorless. It's a bar that makes an attempt to serve food and if they had a REAL trained cook it could be better. I'm not much of a drinker so I will not be returning unless they overhaul the kitchen. Came here for dinner after running errands with my mom. We appreciated the decor of the restaurant right away and was excited to taste the food. We ordered the buffalo shrimp appetizer which was delicious. Unfortunately, the meal went downhill from there. The house cabernet was unremarkable. Then we ordered the seafood special which was broiled fish, scallops, shrimp and crab cake. Complimented by broccoli with hallandaise sauce and jasmine rice. Although the quality of the food was good, it was bland and tasteless. We actually had to request the same buffalo sauce that was on the buffalo shrimp to give the meal some flavor. We followed the meal with the apple pie a la mode dessert. Again, just a basic dish. What saved this experience was the wonderful service and attentiveness of our waitress, Stephanie. This is a nice restaurant with great potential. But maybe a new chef is needed. read more

Terrible service, rude bartender. Ordered something that tasted old and disgusting (wasn't even rude about just let them know it tasted off) the bartender was not even our server and made a rude comment about the waitress "having to eat the cost because we sent it back". She was so nasty. We will never be back. I hope they realize that hiring trash is a mistake for their restaurant. This is my absolute favorite place to go on a Friday night for karaoke fun. They have a fun atmosphere, awesome drinks, great bartenders, and the at home feeling of the restaurant just keeps you coming back, time and time again. They have nightly specials. You have to try the steamed mussels if they are on the menu! Also the French onion soup is one of my favorites! Older place in town. Funny thing, this place has been in business longer than i'v lived in this town. The inside has loads of seating. I wasn't expecting it you be so big inside. The place could definitely benefit from a full overhaul. The booths are dated and old wood not the most comfortable place to sit. The inside is very dark and took a while for my eyes to adjust. It would seem as if most of the money here is made from the bar. When we walked in the bar had people sitting in it drinking. The bad part was nobody greeted us and let us know we could sit anywhere. Having said that, our waitress was there and never forgot about us. The service was good. The food was pretty good! We all got a variety of different dishes which no one had any complaints. Rooney's - Palm Bay - 1 Star Top 5 Worst - Number 1 Never have I had two top 5 worst meals in the same week - this was a first. What made it more bizarre is my friend, who accompanied me, had the same reaction I did upon simultaneously taking our first bite of the meal served us: we both spit it quickly into our respective napkins. It all started when I was meeting two friends for a business meeting. They suggested Rooney's, so I said, "Sounds good, I have not yet reviewed it." When I entered the restaurant, I had a feeling of positive excitement. The decor is a dated 1970s-80s bar, musty and full of the scent of stale beer that hangs in the air. It hearkens back to a time when drunks and power drinkers would crouch over the bar with a cigarette lodged between their fingers as fusty smoke rose to the nearest light. Tara, our server, had the energy of a patient doing the Thorazine shuffle through the halls of the local care facility. I suspect this day was not her finest hour. She asked for our drink order and then disappeared for 12 minutes. This would not have been so unusual except there were no other patrons in the place. When she finally returned I asked if I could still get the iced tea. She sputtered, "sure," and brought the tea from the soda fountain - so it was that gross carbonated iced tea restaurants serve that are too lazy to boil water and insert tea bags. Anyway, I digress. We both ordered pot roast. When it arrived, the "house specialty" was smothered in a thick brown lumpy gravy that I leaned down to smell. A slight stench wafted to my nostrils. At that point I should have stopped, but my friend growled "don't be a priss." So I cut a piece off. My friend and I took our first bite and, well, I already told you what we did. The clueless Tara asked if we wanted it wrapped up to go. We both chuckled "no" and politely asked for the check. If that was the end of it, I could finish this review but the owner had the temerity to come out and ask what our problem was with the food. This time I kept my mouth shut because I did not want a repeat of earlier in the week. However, my friend blurted out that our food tasted spoiled. At that point the owner chose to verbally duel with my buddy. I stopped them both and asked for the check. We paid and left, without being compensated by the manager for rotten food. My husband and I and our friends have been enjoying Rooney's Friday night fish fry for 40 years. I was devastated when I picked up my take out order after a long absence. First, the waitress said she was unable to take my credit card over the phone because they were too busy. Secondly, I was shocked to walk in and find the bar full and no mask in sight...waitresses or patrons. The restaurant was almost empty. And finally, I had to wait to get the attention of a waitress despite being the only one in the bar with a mask. Bars have been banned from serving liquor in this state but not restaurants.
