We ate here last week for dinner, my husband and I both had the Roost Beef sandwich. Interesting, but good, I was expecting some kind of sliced italian beef type of sandwich. It was kind of a fancy marinated burger on a bun with sauce and a whole lot of butter? Half way through my sandwich I noticed what I think was butter, not sure if it was supposed to be there or not but it was good anyways LOL. The fried mac and cheese wedges were amazing! We will be trying the fried chicken and the deep fried snickers which I have never tried anything like that fried before. Roost 59 is a small, family owned restaurant. The owners are extremely friendly and the food is always good. The location is really nice and has a cool ambiance. Prices are really reasonable and they give you a lot for what you pay. They have the typical items (hot dogs, burgers, italian beef) and also some special items (like the "roosts") that set them apart from other quick service places like them. read more

99¢ hot dogs on Sunday's?! Sign me up! This little restaurant has yummy food if you're looking for something quick to chow down on. I usually get the Roost Pork which I think is delish. It's pork on an Italian bun with this sauce that is my absolutely favorite part. The sauce has a spicy taste to it which will awaken your taste buds! Also their Chicago style hot dogs are good. Only reason I give it 4 out of 5 is because I don't know how the rest of the food is because I mainly get the Roost Pork. But for being a decently small place, they have many, many options! Have been coming here since they opened. Yes it's only a hot dog joint, but there's a reason they have survived this long of a time along this long, desolate stretch of Rt. 59 between Fox Lake, and Antioch. They're really good! Lunch time crowd can make it busy in there. Highly recommended the gyro sandwich (really good, garlicky tzatziki sauce), and the patty melt sandwich (not just a decent one, but a really GOOD one done right). I stopped by there for lunch, and the food was good. Not great, but good enough for me to write a good review. I had the cheeseburger, and it was done just right. Fry's were average. The first rule - order ahead. They don't start your chicken til you place your order, so it's going to be a wait. But, overall, it's worth the wait. Our "bucket" was really good. The breast was a touch dry, but the dark meat was amazing. The sweet potato fries were just okay, they were breaded, which made them a little mushy by the time we got them home. I heard so many great things about this place That I knew I had to make the drive. I finally decided to go visited in person. I was greeted by a mural from the outside, and a rooster. That peaked my curiosity, as I made my way inside. I was in awe at their menu. A bit overwhelming that It took me a while to decide what I wanted. I decided to play it safe and got the double cheeseburger and fries. As I waited for my food I started to look around, a cozy small space, like something lost in time refusing to be a victim of the modern world. I received my order in a timely manner. I eyes widen to see such a big burger, I took my first bite and the rest was history, with each bite my taste buds awoken and dance. My inner child came out to feast. We love this place! We just discovered it about 6 months ago and ever since we have been eating here at least once (if not more!) a week. To the person who gave a very negative review and said that all the positive reviews must be by employees - well that is complete crap. Ever time I am there, the place has people coming and going, ordering food, eating inside, and taking food to go. On the weekends it's packed. I was there last night and they were so busy and it was almost 8:30pm already! We have tried many items from their very extensive menu and everything has been great. Prices are fantastic and the staff are all so friendly. Their customer service is great, if you do run into a problem - go talk to them about it rather than posting an awful review. I am sure they will do whatever they can to fix it for you. This place really is a hidden gem and we worth the stop to check it out :) read more

I don't think an iceberg lettuce taco can be called a 'veggie taco'. I realize they are known for many other items on their menu...so I'd let it go if it wasn't for the rude cashier girl when I politely asked if there was a mistake made with my taco. At most I should have been charged $0.25. There are plenty of restaurants in Lake Villa I'd rather frequent where my business is appreciated. read more

Food is good, and the prices are right. My only suggestion would be to get rid of that ratty old rust bucket truck parked in front of the place. I actually know several people who won't even stop there because of that eyesore. If it's got sentimental value to the owner, he should take it home, and put it in his back yard. Not my favorite place have to keep an eye on placing orders over the phone they seem to go from a small order of fries to the largest order with cheese which is a $3 difference not much too many but to me it was a big difference I ordered a juicy beef I got a dry beef with a burnt bun an order that should have been $17 turned out to be over $30 because she charged everything not my favorite place will not be going back read more

Have been to Roost 59 previously for Hot Dogs (99 cents on Sunday is great & affordable) but tonight we had a taste for Broasted Chicken - thought of them immediately (the last time we were there we talked about trying it) First of all let me say what I was impressed with at first was being able to order "a la carte" by what piece you want - we like "legs/drumsticks", so I could order six legs..and got the three piece dinner in addition for two breasts and a wing. Got the sweet potato fries and onion rings as sides. Was happy with the legs..have to say the breasts were a "bit" dry...but overall a "9" in our opinion for broasted chicken. I wish they had their menu "online" so I hadn't had to wait 20 minutes - but maybe they'll step up that part of their website quickly (hint hint). Oh yes, I thought that the prices were good - especially being able to order exactly what pieces we wanted. Good Choice - Go for it! read more

Unfortunately I had a bad experience. I ordered a polish sausage that was soooooo charred and wrinkled, it was so unappetizing to look at that I didn't end up eating it. I really wanted to give a good review, they are very nice, and that counts alot in these times,but.....I checked this place out because of the great reviews and all I could think was...really, this is the best fried chicken you have eaten? My fried chicken was dry, overcooked, and just not all that great. I tried the roost pork and roost beef, nothing special there. The honey biscuits were different, not bad. There menu is huge so it took me awhile to find out what i wanted. I ended up trying the Roost Beef because that is what they recommended. It was very good, lots of flavors. Also, they have Pepsi products and I like Pepsi products. The sitting area is clean so the whole experience was very good. I go sometimes to get the .99 cent hot dogs on Sundays. Hot dogs are great, but they're Vienna, so they really don't stand out versus similar places. Wait times are bit high for just hot dogs, and the girl at the register really has to work on her people skills. All in all, not a bad hot dog joint, but nothing special. read more
