I. AM. SO. EXCITED. I. FOUND. THIS. PLACE! Roost is the perfect Saturday night meal with your best friend or even a date. The ambiance is perfect, and the food is what you dream of! Their menu is exquisite, full of drinks, vegetables, small plates, and entrees. Reservations are a must because the place is small and they get crowded fast. I called at noon for a reservation that night and could only get 8 pm. Plan ahead people! We started off at the bar because our table was not ready, We both had martini's; my friend a dirty martini and i had the "Grapefruit Dead" which the bartender recommended and it was a sweet alcoholic treat. Then as we ate with both had a glass of Cava with our meal; I had rose and my friend had white. Then when we went to our table, my girlfriend and I could not decide what we wanted because the menu was that impressive. We decided to share so we could try more. We got a vegetable plate of roasted cauliflower with pecans and golden raisins; a small plate of toast full with goat cheese over a truffle sauce with mushrooms; scallops as our entree over potatoes with onions; AND cinnamon donuts as desert with a chocolate and vanilla dipping sauce. It was an amazing evening becuase of the food. Everything was drop dead amazing and we cleared every plate. Did not disappoint on so many levels. First and foremost, the chefs attention to detail and selection of ingredients is what elevates the food here above so many other restaurants. The steak was cooked perfects. The asparagus fresh. The rice has a crunch and texture that truly complimented the meal. The staff was professional and courteous. Very attentive at all the right times. The California Cabernet says Napa Valley on the menu, however it isn't. It isn't bad, you just aren't purchasing a bottle of Napa Valley Cab. read more

The crab soup made me so sick! After I finished it I was shaking and sweaty. We packed my husband's food and came right home where I completely vomited the entire soup out. My wife and I were told by some friends who are fellow foodies that there is a great new restaurant open in a small village just over the New York State line from where we live in northern New Jersey called Roost, and we should "get our rear ends up there ASAP!" Reservations were difficult to ge, however, we were lucky to get a cancellation the Wednesday after Christmas. And, we were so glad that we did. The restaurant is small, but smartly designed without being too chic. The waitstaff are extremely professional and immediately make you feel comfortable. Starters include a large selection of shellfis, which could be an entire meal if you order one of the platters. Other appetizers are excellent as well. The main entrees were delicious whether meat or fis. My daughter, who graduated Culinary school last year demanded too many forkfuls of all our entrees for "research purposes" and declared every one was great We will be back soon read more

Had dinner here a few days ago and I was very impressed! Our table shared the shrimp and plantain as an appetizer. I would highly recommend it! The sauce it came in was heavenly. For the entree, I had asked the server about the salmon and whether it was wild or farm raised and the waitress said the salmon was wild. I really appreciate when restaurants serve wild salmon so that made me happy. However, my mother and I both ordered the chicken and potato/veggie hash because the waitress said it was a popular dish recently. It did not disappoint! Next time, I want to try the salmon, though. My mother also ordered the white wine sangria which tasted very fresh! My father ordered the scallops with tomato/potato mixture. He was floored and left nothing behind. Roost is that cozy little place you may have been looking for to call your own. Nestled in the adorable little village of Sparkhill, it is a storefront with vibrant bar full of cool fiftysomethings looking to have a bit more than just a nice meal. The menu was very nice yet doesn't try too hard to establish its' culinary presence. My wife had the sea scallops, served in a delicious broth and cooked perfectly. My foodie daughter had the house made fettuccini with duck confit that was just 'ok' and was a bit overcooked. My burger with roast potatoes was cooked with what seemed like a great deal of love and TLC....very fresh, perfectly medium rare and firing on all cylinders with perfect bun, cheese and hefty blend of what tasted like combo of ground chuck and short rib meat. The first course we shared the Brussels sprouts appetizer which was to die for.....shredded sprouts with ginger and maple syrup. The french toast riff stuffed with goat cheese was almost as good but our Japanese eggplant with chickpea fritters fell flat and not something I'd order again. Our food took over 1 hour to be served and was still under cooked and cold. To make matters even worse when we brought this to managements attention, rather than apologize they blew us off. Good enough to bring me back, but inconsistent enough to make me wonder if it will be just one more time. Either way, I will be back to Roost, a cozy spot with good ambiance. The meal: I had the Little Gem salad, small plates of soft shell crab and slab bacon, blueberry pie from the Pie Lady for dessert, and a glass of sparkling white Cava. The salad was blue cheese ranch on romain with roasted grapefruit and toasted quinoa. The dressing was just right and not slathered on but nicely coated the lettuce. The quinoa added pleasant color and crunch. The grapefruit was refreshing and the grilling mellowed it, but there wasn't enough. The soft shell crab and slaw were fine, and there were macadamia nuts in the slaw, which drew me to order it. It was under seasoned and small. The bacon was fantastic and the highlight of the meal. The portion was generous, and about an inch thick like pork belly. It had the right amount of fat and meat. It melted in my mouth. And the guava-rum BBQ sauce was a nice condiment. I will order this again on my next visit. The blueberry pie was good, but not phenomenal (Pie Lady has better execution with crumble top cherry pies in my opinion), and the creme fresh was the right topping. The sparkling Cava was fine, not too dry and not too sweet. The issues: The service was pleasant but the pace of the meal was off. The salad came out, and a seeming eternity passed before the soft shell crab arrived. It was too cooled off when it came. My and my wife's waters ran out and we had to ration mine to avoid becoming parched. My wife's potatas bravas was under seasoned and she had to send it back. The truffle aioli on the side was weak, aromatic but lacked umami, and I assume it just needed more truffle. There were fewer menu selections than we expected. While this avoided the tyranny of choice, we expected better execution given the smaller selection. Overall, I give Roost a 3.5, and I hope this becomes a 4 or 4.5 on the next visit. read more

I usually am very careful in my reviews. Unfortunately I was very under impressed with the service. My glass was dirty and my spoon was too. There was no ice served with my water and the waitress hardly came to our table. My steak was certainly not worth 50 dollars as well. Went to Roost for dinner tonight! The old Roost had a welcoming reservation process and now it takes 3 days to get blessed with a reservation. New space, new attitude! The cheese board appetizer had a single wedge of old Brie and the rest of the meal was just uneventful. As much as we would like to keep patronizing and supporting local restaurants, we will spend our time and money elsewhere for now. 3.5 starts - hope that it will evolve over time. Pros: 5 star, unique, delicious appetizers. Great wine selection. Great bar atmosphere. Cons: quite a bit more average entrees (still quite good but a let down after appetizers). But main reason we are not likely to come back - atmosphere in the dining room. I hate saying this as owners I am sure took great deal of care in designing it, but I was surprised how a space this small can feel cavernous / sterile. May I suggest light pendants over tables, maybe table cloths and less industrial tables - will definitely add a lot of charm. read more

Called to make a reservation and was instructed to leave a message. I made sure to repeat my request twice along with my name and cellphone number. Not only did they not call me back later that day to confirm or deny the reservation they got all of my information wrong. When I told the woman who called me back (Maria) she proceeded to give me an attitude. If they can't even manage to record reservations appropriately how can they run a successful establishment. Extremely unimpressed with this restaurant and I have never received such a nasty response. I do not recommend this place there are several better restaurants within walking distance. read more

I love this place! Drinks are made from fresh ingredients and are unique. The BVB Lemonade and the Gunpowder especially delicious. The specials are prepared with care and delicious fresh veggies fish or meats. The lobster burrito is amazing. From the regular menu, the oysters, slab bacon and patatas bravas are a must. SOOOO GREAT!! A really interesting and creative menu that's delicious without trying too hard! Amazing mussels, Serrano ham and cauliflower apps..Most things you can order as a small plate. There were 4 of us we had steak au poivre, a scallop and braised beef special, papardelle carbonara and I had the goat cheese mushroom and truffle french toast. Everything was really yummy, and so different than most restaurants in the area. Last time we had the grilled whole Branzzino, haven't had it as good since I was last in Italy.
