    Salmon and Shrimp Mariscada
    Emily U.

Service was great. The food was delicious and didn't take long to come out, didn't think I would be full with my entree but it was filling! We had 3 courses, calamari for appetizers (not pictured), Mariscada as an entrée, and for dinner, some Keylime pie and chocolate cake. They are reasonably priced, although I do think the cocktails were a little on the side. Would recommend checking this place out!

I came here with my boyfriend and parents on a Friday evening for dinner. Vela is one of the nicer restaurants in Pleasantville, so we made reservations. I ordered the Mariscada, which was salmon, shrimp, artichoke, Brussels sprouts, and sun-dried tomato in a light broth. I really enjoyed the pieces of seafood, which were tender and juicy. My family members enjoyed their entrées. My dad ordered the lemon soufflé for dessert, which was a cupcake and not really a soufflé at all. Overall, I think Vela is a safe option for a nice dinner. It might not be the most exciting meal, but the food is thoughtful and prepared with care.

    Harvest grain salad with salmon

I enjoyed eating dinner at Vela Kitchen. I ordered the Harvest Grain salad with salmon. It was delicious, with an interesting combination of flavors and textures (grain, spinach, mango, pickled beets, etc.) The hostess was very warm and inviting. Our waitress was efficient, though I would have appreciated more warmth from her. Being from TX, I was surprised by the smaller portion of salmon added to the order given the price, but I can't say I left hungry. The restaurant has a nice aesthetic. I would retur

Food is tasty, with some interesting choices, good combinations here; but generally speaking it is overpriced and very drafty. I mean, I am not one to worry about the temperature in a restaurant, but this place hAd a climate issue in the room with the front door. Beet salad would have been delicious with just a few small cubes of goat cheese. But when the whole thing is based on a slab of that creamy goodness; too much of a good thing. Then the paella: delicious seafood, but strangely not mixing well with the small amount of rice that was underneath. I was expecting something more infused altogether and certainly not a half a bowl of mussels that I had to use my hands and a fork to eat. Desserts are very good, especially the mini churros with Nutella.

ricotta kisses (kind of like a beignet)

New Year's Day has always been such a random day for me. Sometimes I go to relatives, sometimes I go shopping, and sometimes I sit on my couch all day and watch Netflix (like this year). One thing my family and I always do however is go out to eat. This year is no exception - and while my family is notoriously indecisive on where to eat, this year we ultimately ended up at Vela Kitchen. I had never heard of this restaurant before, but nevertheless I was excited to try somewhere new. Vela sits on the main commercial strip in Pleasantville, right down the block from the Jacob Burns Film Center (another place on my radar). Anyway, I really like the look of Vela - there are a lot of clean lines with neutral, colors in the grey family. Even though this can suggest a sterile aesthetic, the entire restaurant was quite cozy and warm - I was really feeling it. The menu is composed of New American cuisine - there's really a nice variety of items to choose. The apps in particular all looked so good I had trouble picking. I ultimately went with the crostini which was topped with goat cheese, truffle honey, and arugula pesto. The app was good, and I was pleased to find the crostini not to be too hard so it was easy to bite cleanly. For my main I had the seared salmon - this came with black rice, kale, and a coconut mustard. The dish was very good - flavors and textures were on point and the coconut mustard was an unexpected twist. I was happy to see they were all made in-house which you don't see everyday, and since it was a special occasion we decided to take a peek. I went with the ricotta kisses which were kind of like beignets served with chocolate sauce to dip and whipped cream. These were tasty, but I was struggling to find ricotta flavor. Service was very good - everyone was super friendly and the food was served at the right pace. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at Vela. I'll admit I had lowish expectations judging from the lack of good eateries in Northern Westchester, but they deliver the goods. I would definitely return if given the opportunity.

The pics, reviews, and menu all seemed to point towards a yes - so off we went. Freddy's is located within the main commercial hub of Pleasantville. It's not a large restaurant, but holds a decent amount of seating with tasteful and laid-back decor. We were there right at opening at 4:30p, so it wasn't crowded but started filling up as time progressed. The menu is mostly American - arranged by apps, salads, entrees, sides, and desserts. I decided to start with the burrata which was served with diced butternut squash, brown butter, and grilled bread. This was...not what I was expecting. Burrata usually comes as an intact sphere that you cut open to reveal the soft cheese inside. This was already broken, and served in an almost deconstructed way. It honestly looks like a way to cut corners as it was definitely not a whole burrata. That, and the lack of flavor do not make it worth the $17 they charge. My main was better - I ordered the smoked chicken which was a breast on the bone and came with grits, spinach, and honey au jus. This was tasty - the chicken was juicy with crispy skin, and the au jus added a welcome sweetness to the grits and spinach. We opted for dessert because birthday - I chose the carrot cake which was just okay. No nuts, raisins, or noticeable carrots - so, a spice cake? As a side note, we were there during HV Restaurant week, however in lieu of a dedicated menu they offered a prix fixe app/entree/dessert off their menu. It sounded great at face value, but then we were told the portions would be smaller - and for items they couldn't shrink they up-charged if we ordered off the regular menu. IMO, not the best way to do restaurant week - either have a dedicated menu for it or don't participate at all. That being said, we decided to order off the regular menu. Service was good, everyone was friendly and food came out at a good pace. Overall, Freddy's sent me mixed signals - the food wasn't bad, but this isn't a place I would go out of way to try again - it's more of a local spot in my perspective. If circumstances found me here again, though, I wouldn't be mad.

Food just wasn't that good. The table ordered a variety of dishes--mid at best…read more Service was also 2 stars, not friendly at all. Tell my friends to pass or go at your own risk

They have a program to text when your table was ready, so we went for a walk in the neighborhood while we waited. A surprisingly short time later, we received the text that our table was ready! The menu(s) had a wonderful selection of food and drinks, along with some specials. They do use a QR code for their menus, but noticed they also had paper menus upon request. Our server was friendly and attentive. The other members of staff would also check in as they passed by. My boyfriend enjoyed the PB & J Latte along with the creole shrimp Benedict. He said it was seasoned well, right level of spice, stated the eggs were poached perfectly, and really enjoyed how moist the cornbread was. I indulged with the "Tipsy Palmer" which is an Arnold Palmer with Bourbon in it. To be honest, there wasn't much of a bourbon taste to it, if any at all, but for a summer brunch drink, it was refreshing. For my entree, I chose the chicken Caesar sliders. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed as the brioche buns seemed a little on the stale/stiff side. The homemade caesar dressing was delicious, but they only coated the lettuce in it which resulted in a bit of a dry slider. I believe the sliders would benefit from a bit of the dressing at least on the bottom of the bun. I asked for (and received) a side of the dressing to bring home to dress up my remaining sliders. Lastly, and I know this is extremely minor, but the silverware was placed incorrectly (knife and fork reversed with the knife edge in the wrong direction). Again, I am WELL AWARE this is minor, but for me, sometimes the minor details are the things that stand out. Overall, a wonderful experience and will try them again at a later date.

The fresh, hand-cut thick fries were again fried to perfection. Golden crispy on the outside, moist and tender on the inside. I don't know what there secret frying technique is or the type of oil they use but the flavor is light and delicious.
