I enjoyed two of the specialty cocktails but they all looked so good. We ordered the deviled eggs and BLT bites, they were easy to share between the three of us. I ordered the crab cakes and pickled watermelon side. All very delicious, the crab cakes were smaller than I had thought. We shared a blueberry pie to finish the night to a pretty great dinner. Nice place! After a night exploring The Stutz downtown we had reservations at Root and Bone. Great table for 4... not too close to other patrons but felt in the mix! Lauren was our wonderful server... her timing was spot on! When one of our shareable apps only had 3 pieces... she offered a 4th do we could each have one. I struggled choosing a cocktail - she patiently answered all my questions! Our table chose the two highlighted shareable entrees - whole fried chicken and the short ribs. Lauren let us know the ribs wouldn't be messy and they weren't! The meat just fell off the bone when your fork bumped it, it seems! So good! Other recs on Yelp said the fried chicken was the way to go and they were right too! Me and my husband split a wedge salad - easily! Great portion sizes. Root and Bome did an incredible job with their execution of a homey, southern comfort-inspired restaurant in the SoBro area. With a range of great dishes, including southern staples like fried chicken, ribs, and biscuits, I have enjoyed both my dinner and brunch dining experiences. The one that has stood out to me most is the shrimp and grits - with great flavor in both elements, the dish comes together very nicely. Don't forget to order one of their great cocktails! A tip I would recommend - go with people you don't mind sharing with. I'm not sure I'd quite call it "family style" dining because the plates aren't tremendously big in size, but they are perfect in nature for sharing, and that's coming from someone who usually likes to order their own entree. If you have never been before you are missing out! I FINALLY got in; I kid you not I have tried on 3 separate occasions to make same day reservations and missed out, but last night we finally got in! Surprisingly we were able to bring the girls with us too and STILL got in! We got there on time and our table wasn't quite ready so we hung out in the waiting area. The waiting area is not that big and based on how busy they are I almost recommend coming 5ish min late......but then again maybe not, you might lose your reservation. Anyway we waited for about 10 minutes before our table was ready and was seated; the host let us know someone would be right with us. Unfortunately for us it wasn't the case but honestly the place was so busy and the ambiance was so comforting we really didn't notice. We were actually JUST starting to look around to find someone when im assuming the manager popped up, apologized for our wait and said he would make it up to us. Not keep in mind we didn't complain to ANYONE accept each other; I was impressed. The fact the staff/manager even took notice was super impressive and the kind of place I definitely want to bring my family to. He sent over quite a few of the appetizer and I must say they were all delicious! The deviled eggs are amazing! Even though the description sounds weird, at least to me they did. My middle daughter (11) LOVED the fried green tomatoes and I definitely agree with her. The scrambled egg and tomatoes combo was extremely flavorful. They also send biscuits out to us and if there's an item to order and indulge yourself.....it's those. They come out with some melted butter plus sea salt and sesame seeds you can sprinkle on top! They're worth the calories. For food I ordered the Grilled pear and Burrata caprese salad and side of macaroni and cheese. The salad was heaven! I was kind of hesitant because of the grilled peaches but I LOVE caprese salads AND peaches are my fav so I figured why not! It didn't disappoint! The texture of peach was perfection and there was some sort of balsamic dressing that took the entire bite to another level. For drinks I started with sun sort of rum pineapple drink. It wasn't too bad but not my fav. If you want a fruity not sweet drink this is the drink for you, I'll tell you that much. My favorite drink for the night was the Thyme Out. That drink was perfection! It's one of those drinks you wouldn't mind having a whole pitcher of while sitting outside. This is one of those little places you can try some different foods and try the fancy items but once you find the items you like the next time you go in your ordering the chicken biscuit app and the Mac and cheese for you meal. The chicken biscuit app was fantastic, the devil eggs that were pickled were ok. Ribs were good but stick to a BBQ place to get your BBQ. The three way corn side I was hoping for more and they had me at corn bread but it was a sauce with a ear of corn and a few pieces of popcorn. I like the feel of the location and all the food was good and a few items were great and just happened to be those items were apps that can be made into a meal which is what we will do next time and probably try another main entree. read more

We love Root and Bone. It's our go to restaurant in the city. Service is always great and the food is unbelievable. I dream about the short rib "meatloaf" and the Daisy's Angel Biscuits. They always have great seasonal offerings too so we love coming back and seeing new menu options. It's also kid friendly which is always nice. I've been meaning to stop in for ages, but a pandemic got in the way. I'm so glad we finally had a chance to dine at Root & Bone! We will definitely be back. Everything we had was remarkably tasty. We started with a couple orders of the Angel Biscuits. (I would kill for the recipe for that chicken jus, if you're listening, R&B.) It was a warm July night, so I ordered the Grilled Peach and Burrata salad and added grilled shrimp. My husband had the fried chicken. My daughter had the (really spectacular) meatloaf. We ordered the watermelon and pickles side, Mac and cheese and grits to share. We finished the evening by sharing the Banana Pudding Creme Brûlée and the Chocolate Chess Pie. Everything was delicious. We left incredibly full. Our server was friendly and helpful, and on the ball. I would recommend a reservation. It's a busy place! There is still so much more on the menu that we'd like to try, so I guess we'll just have to come back again soon. Can't wait. read more

Perfect place for a great meal. The drinks, food and ambiance are all fantastic. We ordered the deviled eggs, chicken biscuits, peach and burrata salad, chicken under a brick, fried chicken, meatloaf, corn casserole, biscuits, and truffle tater tots! Everything was fantastic. We ate past this point of being full. The chicken under a brick was a big surprise - lovely sauce- pickled lemon emulsion that needs to be on everything , well cooked, great succotash underneath. Probably one of my favorite things of the night. The short rib meatloaf had a lovely tomato jam on it that balanced the meat well. As for drinks, we got wine, the Daisy May (chamomile infused tequila, lime, agave nectar), the Heat Wave ( Tito's, basil, jalapeño, ginger, lime), Cucumber Southside (Tanqueray Ten, cucumber, mint, lime), and draught beer. Great drink selection overall! Beautiful bar! Parking is a bit different. We parked in an empty lot across the street. Also, this place is popular so you do need reservations at least a few days out! We always wanted to try this place as it's very close to our house and seemed great but the busy-ness of the restaurant and the subsequent lockdown got in the way. Anyhow, we made it today! Searching for parking was a bit of a challenge although it shouldn't surprise anyone in Broad Ripple. You can park on the street, behind the restaurant, or across from the restaurant in a big lot. Maybe we got lucky, but there was no wait to be seated for brunch and we took a table outside. It's worth mentioning that the interior of the restaurant looked pretty cozy and stylish. Our waitress walked us through the menu and was very attentive throughout the whole experience and friendly. There were certainly lots of items worth trying and we went with Waffles Benedict and American Roots breakfast. In just 10 mins both were ready and tasted good. However, for the above average price point, I expected a slightly better presentation and potatoes to not be just plain baked without any seasoning - I'd say between a $10 similar breakfast at a First Watch and $15 American Roots at this restaurant - First Watch would be a better value. For comparison, The Garden Table, Gallery Pastry Shop, and Cafe Patachou in BR do a better job presenting food + it's a bit more flavorful there and they serve more (and better) coffee options (Root & Bone is totally not meant for coffee lovers). Overall, a solid 4* for brunch here for a place that doesn't really specialize in breakfasts. We haven't had dinner at Root & Bone but would love to try something from the dinner menu next time. read more

Omg. Went to Root & Bone Indianapolis for the first time today. It was soooo good. Everything was delicious and our server was awesome! They got us a table even though we did not have a reservation and politely wrapped us up so the next reservation was met. Very professional and delicious. Highly recommend! I had chicken and waffles. My friends ordered the banana cream waffle (I think that's what it was lol), shrimp and grits, blt (not at all what you think it is. I had to order a plate to go) and a side of biscuits and bacon. Meeting friends, we first stopped at the bar for a beverage and appetizer. Bacon flight was tasty - not exactly a flight but new tastes. Yummy. The dinner started with appetizers as well: biscuits and deviled eggs. You never go wrong with deviled eggs and these did not disappoint. My companions all enjoyed the biscuits but I didn't think they were special. We shared chicken and ribs and all of it was excellent along with the plantain side. We also ordered the Mac n cheese side but again, nothing special. What truly raised this dining experience to 5 star was our waiter. He was gregarious and gave great advice and suggestions. We felt like members of private club. He should be paid by commission because we ordered way more than we should have and we're happy to do so. Great brunch! We had a wonderful meal this morning at Root & Bone. Their interior is cozy with cutting boards and plants along the wall. As well as a large window looking into the kitchen. Tons of seating in the dining room and bar area. Lots of parking options too (back and the vacant lot across the street). My husband got their chicken and waffles. 3 crispy, delicious l, full of flavor chicken sat on top of a fluffy Belgian waffle. On the side they bring hot honey as well as syrup (yum!). I got their eggs, bacon with a side of biscuits and gravy. The gravy was a dark brown color (the correct color) with chunks of sausage and full of peppery flavor- delicious! The eggs were a soft scramble with chives on top, so good! And the bacon was thick and cooked well. Our server was attentive and so kind. We will for sure be back! read more

The chicken biscuits were a good mix of savory, sweet, and a little spicy (from the pepper jelly). I would also get the Mac and cheese again and again. I've been wanting to come here for dinner forever, I finally had the chance to last night. It was worth the wait! The inside is gorgeous, open spacious with southern/modern decorations and nice low lighting. They are taking covid seriously which you always like to see; the staff is very friendly and will answer questions and make recommendations which is something I enjoy. My friends and I started with the charcuterie board, and it is packed full of local meats, tasty cheeses, interesting spreads, good crusty bread with pickles and spicy green beans. We also started with some drinks, I was impressed with the selection, it had a well thought out concentrated selection. I had a refreshing gin and blue berry cocktail and my friends had a pepper cocktail that smelled awesome. For dinner I had to go with the fried chicken that is brined in sweet tea, I loved it, the flavor was great and the chicken cooked well. I had the grits as my side and they were some cheesey goodness. I tried some of what my friends had and I was also impressed, the ribs were fall off the bone and come with some smoking rosemary and the shrimp and grits were delicious I would get both when I come back. First of all it's in a nice part of Indy and the outside of the building is cool looking, with their "logo" painted on brick. It looks really nice inside as well. Clean with older looking knickknacks all around the place. Small tables set really close together crowded the dining area in my opinion. It was very slow when we went and I could only imagine if all the tables had other people eating how personal it would feel. Room temperature water sitting out on all the tables since they opened probably at least the plates "look"cool. It's not cheap but not expensive either if that makes sense. Seems like they try too hard to make fancy dishes out of simple "comfort food." All of the staff was very polite and pleasant. Took a bit for everything to come out of the kitchen though. Probably spending all that time with the presentation.‍ Overall it wasn't bad but not a place I would like to try again. read more

We are here from out of town and was wondering if a good place to eat saw the post and gave it a try! If you are from out of town or live in town I highly recommend this place to eat. If you are able to sit in Logan's section he is the best waiter he was able to keep our 3 teens boys happy with special drinks that he had made for them!! I ordered the ZLT appetizer and was disappointed by the tiny serving when our waiter set the plate down, but the flavor was out of this world and totally made my choice worth it. With a side, the app could easily be an entree for those looking to keep things light. On the other hand, my boyfriend ordered an enormous steak. It had a beautiful crisp sear and was extremely tender. The steak was served with mushrooms and cooked plums (I think they were plums...) . We split broccolini as a side. This had a curry sauce on top that wasn't our favorite but still very flavorful. I was secretly jealous of the grits at the table next to me. Ambience is upscale farmhouse. Root & Bone was recently named the Best New Restaurant of 2020 by Indy Star! After a visit there for dinner, I can see why; it's absolutely delicious! The cuisine is upscale southern food. We started the meal off by trying two cocktails: Kinda Blue and Florida Man. Both were perfectly balanced cocktails and absolutely fantastic! We also tried a variety of dishes and my favorite was the Grandma Daisy's Angel Biscuits appetizer. The biscuits were flaky and delicious. It comes with honey chicken jus and sea salt for you to dip the biscuits in. It is delicious and unlike anything I've had before. My favorite side was the mac and cheese. It tastes home cooked and is cheesy and delicious. The interior of the restaurant is adorable and cozy. It has a country yet modern feel. And the staff is very friendly, knowledgable and attentive. I will definitely be going back to Root & Bone and if you've never been, it's definitely worth a visit! read more
