We splurged and had my husband hit the drive thru here tonight. It didn't disappoint! We both had salad cheeseburgers, which is a cheeseburger with all the veggies. They were tasty and fresh. We also ordered bacon chili cheese fries and it was delicious and loaded! The shrimp basket was crispy and yummy also. We also ordered a kids meal. The grand total was around $27. The food was terrible! Ordered almost $25 worth of food. Two double cheeseburgers, two salad burgers, a chili burger, large fry and a medium root beer float. To start with two double cheeseburgers only had onions and pickles on it. Two salad burgers were literally the definition of salad Burger no additional condiments on it whatsoever, which I even asked for ketchup added onto it as well. I had to come home and add all the condiments to all the burgers myself. Chili burger was the only item semi correct. Large fries were the very end of the frozen fries bag which had small little niblets that were flat with no potato meat on them and hard. Which did not equal out to nowhere near small fry let alone a large fry. Root beer float didn't have any root beer in it other than a few drops, if I wanted a scoop of ice cream I could have just had that from home, which I had in my freezer. They say they grill the mayo and mustard onto the bun, which definitely do not see or taste on the burgers. I could see maybe the mayonnaise being grilled onto the bun..If this were true should have been able to taste it. Can't fathom the mustard and grilled onto it, definitely didn't see or taste it. I think it's their way of saving money on condiments so they don't have to use them for the customers. On to the worst customer service by management ever. I called immediately after noticing all the wrongs with the order. Spoke to someone which she was nice and told me that they would be able to replace the two salad burgers and the large fry but not anything else because management was not on site. Told her I would come in to redeem the next day. Prior to me going on the next day I called and spoke to the manager letting her know of the situation that I expressed to the employee last night prior. And asked her about the root beer float as well. She told me she would call me back after she speaks to the staff from last night. I waited or over an hour and she never returned my call. So called back and spoke to the next manager on shift because the other one Dolores had already left, without calling me back. When speaking to the last manager she had told me that I would not be able to get any remakes on the food that I WAS TOLD I COULD the night prior FOR THE NEXT DAY. I explained to her that they took my name down and receipt number the night prior and said I could return today. But she told me the manager Dolores, that I spoke with prior today said that "she would not be replacing anything". Being in a manager position myself before I find this quite unprofessional, dissatisfying and rude. Dolores is not thinking long-term business-wise, because now she has lost a long time customer. Worst experience, I will not be going there ever again. Your loss. If I could leave no stars I would. I hope the owner sees this and rectifies the situation. An at least trains their management staff to provide better customer service. read more

Root beer King is always really good. The food is made fresh to order every time. The employees are always very friendly and pleasant. The fries are served plentiful and very hot, very fresh. I always get the #1 cheeseburger combo with a side of ranch and a root beer. I don't know what they put in their root beer but it's very good. Better than that of most places I have tried. It is in a sketchy area infested with bums and sometimes they will come up to your window while in the drive thru and ask for change or money. That's why I am docking a star. That gets annoying. Management should ask the bums to leave, in my opinion. read more

Although this is a fast food joint, I will rate it slightly higher than my normal three star fast food review... I rate it slightly higher because it is slightly different. For one thing, there are two drive through, one on each side of the building. By taking the far one, the driver gets to relax while the passenger handles everything. another slightly different item is the fact that there isn't a dining room, outdoor seating only. Root Beer King is my go-to place for cheeseburgers on the east side of town. I tried it for the first time about three weeks ago when a co-worker of mine raved about the fries. I get the King Burger with Bacon added. The fries are thoroughly seasoned and they also grill seasonings into the bun of the burgers. I know I know, it's like announcing where the best slice of pizza is in New York or where the best BBQ in Texas is at; burgers are just so personal that people get offended if you don't recommend their personal favorite. But, take it or leave it, my favorite burger is at Root Beer King on Niles on the east side. Now, what makes this burger so delicious. 1st is the location, this place is old-school chic; I can picture old-school dudes in leather jackets, hair full of grease picking up chicks in old Chevys. Yeah it's the east side, but it's kind of what I picture when I think about a California burger joint. 2nd is the beef. I don't know what the blend is, but it has a great flavor. There's nothing fancy here; the burger just had cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and whatever that sauce is, but they do it very well. The fries are perfectly crispy and come sprinkled with this awesome seasoned salt. 3rd is that it's effortlessly good. Sometimes it just gets annoying when people wear all the fancy car-hop gear with the paper hat and the overly-excited demeanor... something is just very artificial about that. I have been looking for a place with good pastrami's and I have now found it! I came here on Friday to get the pastrami meal and it was good! They gave me a ton of French fries which were also super good. So, to make sure it wasn't a fluke and maybe I just caught them on a good day I went back Saturday night to get another pastrami meal and it was even better.
