This place was phenomenal! I stumbled upon it while leaving Trader Joe's. I didn't know what I wanted because everything looked delicious. I had the pesto Caesar salad. It was delicious! It had Kale with bulgur, grape tomatoes, shaved parmesan, lime pickled onions, and pita chips; Pesto Vinaigrette & Caesar dressing, with a kick of Sriracha; Grilled Chicken. The chicken was seasoned and cooked to PERFECTION! The staff were very pleasant and patient with me while I ordered. My new favorite salad place! I ordered via Uber Eats and couldn't be more thrilled with the quality. Their lemon zest chicken is perfectly seasoned, as well as the chimmichurri mushrooms. Sweet potatoes have a lovely texture, and so did the beets. I could ramble on and on about their food and how good it is, but you should just see for yourself. Good grief. The bowl they gave me had enough food for 3 separate meals!! Parking can be a bit of a challenge, but once you get past that... you walk in, and it's quite open. It was the middle of the day, so it was pretty quiet. Music was playing, and the staff happily greeted me. There's a big menu on the wall that you can look at... but if you're near-sighted, grab one of the handheld menus. I studied for a bit, deciding what I was going to get. I could've went with a preset, but I felt adventurous. You can get rice and greens... I went with the Roots Rice, which is not your average rice mixture... it's purple and even has some veggies in it! I paired that with kale, and started picking a bunch of ingredients, like corn, black beans, carrots, cabbage, sweet potatoes and way more... and my protein? Mojo jackfruit. It was spicy and so so delicious! In fact, everything was delicious! As I said in the beginning, I was shocked by the size of the bowl! For ~$12, it was really a lot. Will definitely go again! Tasty food with lots of options and a ton of vegan choices including beans, chick peas and 2 types of tofu. I had the Southern- which I guess was Southern because of the bbq tofu? It was tasty with charred corn, chick peas, kale, and a lemon tahini dressing. I added fresh jalapenos and sweet potato which was key! You can also build your own which my wife did and liked. Staff does seem to expect you to know the drill which isn't really clear to a new visitor. Traffic in College Park can be daunting but the food was served so fast we'll be back. 4 Stars because the rice was occasionally crunchy. read more

I totally forgot to review Roots Natural Kitchen the last two times I ate there. Today, I refused to forget. The food is soooo fresh and delicious that I decided to review mid-meal. I am a creature of habit, when I like something, I tend to keep ordering the same thing. This morning was no different. I ordered the El Jefe, no pita chips and with the works. It is soooo delicious. Here's what's in the El Jefe bowl: Brown Rice, Kale, Black Beans, Charred Corn, Red Onions, Pita Chips[G], Feta[D], Cilantro Lime Dressing, Adobo Chicken. Add the "works" with a squeeze of fresh lime and a splash of Tabasco. I remove the pita chips just as a preference (I don't like crunchy things in my salads), but they are well seasoned. read more

I loved eating Balboa, every ingredient in that bowl felt clean and worked together to make a delicious bowl. The best part about it was the pickled onions because they added a bit of cold, tangy flavor in each bite. I also have enjoyed eating the El Jefe because it was so rich in flavor but after getting it multiple times I tried the balboa and realized that was much better in that every bite was a little different while el jefe had a similar taste in every bite. The service was similar to Chipotle/Cava/Sweetgreen where they build the bowl in front of you. The ambiance was alright, I never sat and ate there but i will say it is a bit loud! I am so sad to know that roots has closed in CP :( read more

My friend recommended it when I mentioned I had a taste for a good salad. I'm a fan of Cava so he knew I would like it. Such a good spot for a filling and refreshing lunch. I created my own bowl and all of the ingredients tasted very fresh (greens, grains and veggies). The restaurant was clean and servers were pleasant. The bowls are pretty big and the servers fill them generously so I had enough for 2 separate at meals even when I was so hungry I could eat a horse! lol I recommend the PESTO VINAIGRETTE- it's a perfect blend of sweet and tangy and compliments any salad very well. My 2nd favorite was the cilantro dressings (I don't quite remember the name of it). Can't go wrong with this place! read more

We have been to Roots once and enjoyed the food. It's a similar experience to Cava if you've been there. I gave it four instead of five stars is because of the acoustics. We could barely hear the staff behind the counter. We had ordered build your own bowls so the entire process involved hearing about the choices and making selections but we had to resort to lots of pointing because lots so difficult to hear. I hope they consider trying to fix this issue. If not, I would order online if I went back. read more

I love this place! It's a great option for a fast casual healthy option. Their menu is small but you have the option to make your own salad/bowl. You can tell all of the food is fresh. For reference- I got the jefe bowl with chicken and pulled pork and all I can say is wow! the staff there was absolutely amazing and willing to explain things to me and ask me about my preference. additionally, their speed and service was beyond pleasant. Now let's get to the good stuff- THE FOOD. WOW WOW WOW! So much flavor that I legit will never go to chipotle again! It's fresh and full of flavor that I legit wanted another bowl! the restaurant was clean as well as their bathrooms. The portions were great as well. I patiently waited for the opening and was not disappointed. I headed there and ordered the pesto Caesar and it was everything! The kale was tender which you don't always find. and the added bulgur along with all of the other additions of tomatoes, shaved park, pita, and nicely seasoned chicken with the salad dressing... yes, with the added sriracha, topped it all off. I ate the entire bowl, with a little help. I also purchased a bottled tea that We've already decided to go back to try other options. The staff was friendly and helpful and the location has ample seating and a nice interior. And kids eat free with a purchase. Yes, there's an age limit ( and they told me, but I forgot). There's a nice selection of salad bases, six if we are being exact, grilled options (vegan, vegg and chicken) and a variety of other salad toppings to choose from. They have a full menu of salad options in the store or you can make your own. If you go to their website there's a curated list with salad flavor profiles.
