At least the building they're in, I've always said growing up is cursed since businesses don't tend to stay very long there-and they've been at their location for several years now. So they must be good, right? Well, I went in and had a smoked turkey leg, the leg was huge and very tasty. The people there seemed to be warm and helped create a friendly vibe. Now, they didn't have coffee at the time, I'm not sure if they just ran out that day or simply didn't have any prepared yet-and I was a little annoyed at getting my meal in a to-go box when I said I was going to eat there; but it wasn't that big of a deal to me. I was able to enjoy the leg fairly well, the candied yams were delicious too. Now I haven't had a smoked turkey leg before and wasn't aware that the meat was supposed to be a little on the pink side, when I asked, the gentleman did come across a little rude about it, saying twice only "it's smoked" as though it was so obvious that I should have known that it was supposed to be pink. Maybe I should've known. That may have been what resulted in a four star rather than a five from me, because you know that one of the big things that I rate are the friendliness and how approachable the staff is. Soooo disappointed. This place USED to be great. Came because my son was home from college and craving the jerk chicken. The wings came smothered in bbq sauce. Nothing low calorie either about the food here, but all so tempting. We ate in but could just as easily have taken the food home since it is all served in to-go containers. Mixed reviews on the food from our table. Two of us liked it, especially the vegetables, and one would prefer never to return. I liked my rib tips OK, though they are fatty and better when first served - some were over cooked. Sweet potatoes, greens, and okra were all quite good. Place had been on my radar for a while, but never had the chance to get out this way. Finally, after seeing a retweet of the next day's special, and just happening to have that day off, it must have been fate, and I made it over for early lunch. The special that day was the biscuit with brisket gravy, and I wasn't the only person there when I walked up. In fact, the other 3-4 people there were also there to get the special. I was gonna get an order of two biscuits, but after seeing how huge one order was, I cut it to one, and got a jalapeno cheddar muffin to go with it. It was fantastic, can't say much more. One of my food whore groups are biscuits and gravy, and these can take a place at the top of that list. Just plain good, is all you need to know. I took the muffin home and ate it later, the butter on top had soaked in, and it was moist and great as well. Anyway...nice place, great guy and employee's running the place, super friendly. Good service, fair prices. Lot's of stuff on the menu I want to try when I can, but it's kind of a haul for me. My hubby and I went today to try this place out. We really enjoyed the rib tips, okra and the baked beans. The mac and cheese looked good in the pics on fb that we saw, but unfortunately they were completely out of it. First, we did enjoy our meal although the place was very unpleasant looking. The building looked like it could fall apart at any moment. I decided to over look that because I heard the food was good. Second, the BIGGEST turn off for us was that the female that works in the kitchen came out to visit with a customer, took her flip flops off and was rubbing her feet under the table while talking to the customer. Third, the big guy that works in the kitchen came out to sit behind the counter (but very visible to customers) sat to take a break and a nap where we could hear him snoring. Due to the things we witnessed on our first visit there we will NOT be going back. It's very unfortunate considering we really did like the food we ate. I recently moved to Dallas from Chicago via Cali. I found this place searching for something good after being told I had to wait 2 and a half hours at Lo-Lo's. I was not disappointed at all. I usually don't go to spots that ppl are not in line for. This guy has ppl in and out, with grocery bags of this man's Q. We walked in a little after noon and had to wait about 10 minutes as 3 elderly gentlemen placed their order. The wife thought she heard someone in back say that the wait for food would be 30 minutes but we didn't have to wait. I ordered 2 meats and 2 sides. Rib tips, turkey tips, Collard greens, and fried okra. The wife ordered 1 meat and 2 sides, turkey tips, collard greens, and mac & cheese. My order came with double turkey tips. They quickly self-identified the error and the wife ended up with double turkey for no extra charge. I'm impressed. Every thing is served in Styrofoam containers along with plastic utensils. The best part of my meal was the collard greens. Holy cow they were good. My wife really liked the mac and cheese. The ribs and turkey were good. The special of the day was turkey leg. Stopped here last night after a Groupon massage in the area and I don't even know where to start. This is the first time I've been so excited to write a review. The food was absolutely amazing. It's a nice cozy spot with great customer service. Decent prices. Chill vibe. You can't ask for more. If you are in the area, this is a MUST TRY. Like, seriously- don't think about it, no need to look at pics, just go. The 4.5 stars don't even do this place justice. It was so good that I started thinking about how I couldn't wait to return while I was still there, eating my food! Lol. We were greeted by the owner/chef as well as the other customer service reps as soon as we walked in. They assisted us with picking two entrees and this was difficult because everything looked amazing. I literally wanted one of each menu item. Hubby decided to go with the jerk chicken wings with yams and greens while I chose the special- smoked meat loaf with Mac and cheese plus mashed potatoes. There are no words to describe how happy each bite of each item made me. I don't even care for meatloaf BUT it was so bomb that all I've been thinking about at work this morning is getting home from to eat my left overs. The flavor of every thing I ate was amazing. Hubby's jerk chicken wings were a little spicy but they were awesome as well- they had a sweet taste and were made/served with pineapples. The greens were soft and seasoned very well. And the yams- one word, love. And if you want to really treat yourself, put some of both those bad boys and Mac and cheese on your fork. This combo is the best, Thank me later. Oh, and the jalapeño cornbread was phenomenal. A bit spicy for me so next time I'll go with the basic cornbread. I loved that it was sweet and extremely moist. My husband is very critical of food, as great cooks usually are, but he took one bite and said "this is the best cornbread I've ever had". This shocked the heck out of me. He gave this place two thumbs up and if he LOVES somewhere, which is very rare, the place deserves more than just 5 stars. Now just a little about the ambiance- it's a kick back spot. Walk in, order and pay at the counter and have a seat. No fanciness, a place with good food doesn't need all of that. There are some nice pics of music artists on the wall. Honestly, there was probably more unique decor, I just didn't notice it because I was so overwhelmed by the beauty of my food. Just know that the vibe of the place is appropriate for a chill night out- date night or hanging with friends and family. Great service and great food! We came here once on a weekend and the line was so long someone warned us that the wait would be at least an hour. We left and came back on a weekday and the food came out so quickly! You can smell how Smokey and flavorful the food is from outside I can nearly taste the okra just from the Aroma outside. We ordered the 3 meat 2 sides with pulled pork, hot links, and rib tips. We got potato salad, candied yams, and Mac n cheese for the sides. My only regret was not asking for more bbq sauce because it was so sweet and yummy! My boyfriends favorite meat was the pulled pork and mine was the hot links. I don't even normally don't hot links but the flavor was so good especially combined with the bbq sauce and candied yams. I've never had candied yams at a bbq joint before it mixed so well with the meats. We weren't too fond of the potato salad or the rib tips it was just your run of the mill potato salad and the tips were a little too tough for our liking. I wanted to try the sweet potato cake but the portions were huge and I knew I'd be too full before I got to it. My boyfriend and I shared the box and we had plenty left for a second meal. We were in the mood for soul food and decided on Rosako's. Small space with ample parking. Everything on the menu sounded great and it took us a few minutes to pick what we wanted. We decided on the Rib Tips, fried okra, Mac and cheese, collard greens, candied yams, smoked meatloaf and the jalapeño cheese corn bread. Rib tips were AMAZING! Generous portion, asked for sauce on the side, the meat itself was well seasoned and tender. The mac and cheese was made with penne, one of my favorite noodles, creamy but the noodles were a touch overdone. The smokiness of the meatloaf wasn't overpowering and whatever was in the gravy on top was really special, very tasty. No complaints on the candied yams, I don't see how anyone can complain about candied yams, lol. The collard greens could have used a little more bacon, but that is more of a personal preference, they were still flavorful. The only thing that didn't meet or exceed our expectation was the cornbread muffin, but this again is just a matter of personal preference. We both felt the consistency was more airy and cake-like as opposed to the dense, almost crumbly texture of cornbread that we prefer. But despite that, the flavor was there, cheesy and peppery. You will leave full, or in our case, leave with what will be served as tonight's dinner. The wife had the half rack rib plate with two sides. She selected the made from scratch mashed potatoes and the fried okra. The ribs were fall of the bone tender and we both agreed the potatoes were amazing. We didn't ask if the okra was fresh or frozen, but it was hot and crispy. I went with the smoked meatloaf served with mash potatoes and candied yams. The potatoes and meatloaf were complimented with a delicious brown gravy. Yams reminded me of my granny's! I almost forgot to mention the jalapeño cheddar cornbread. Hot, fresh and spicy! As mentioned, we were too full to finish our food, so dessert was out of the question. That just means we will have to come back...which we will. We all had Soul Food on our minds & man oh man did we hit the Mother Load ! Hubby, Brother & Sister in-law rolled up to this quaint little Soul Food Joint & there was the smell of "home sweet home" in the air. Yessss!!! We all gathered around her & found out that she was from Louisiana, & hubby, his brother & our sister in-law all grew up around the same area & we were all raised on the same great soul food that the South is known for....we were all on a mission to tame our Soul Food craving , & Bingo...we hit the jackpot! Rosako grew up in Indiana & Chicago but, his Mama & family are all from Mississippi....well, there ya go, folks. He has true Southern influence in his cooking, for sure. I wanted to try everything on his menu but, tonight I ordered the 2 Smoked Pork Chops w/rice, great Gravy, Collard Greens (Some of the best I've ever eaten!), Yams (Drool), Huge Cornbread Muffin & Fried Okra w/ large tea....Wow, Wow Wow...Outstanding! It made me Happy, Happy Happy. Hubby & Brother, each ordered the Meat Loaf ( 2 large Slices), Mashed Potatoes & Gravy (I could literally drink that stuff !) & those yummy Collard Greens. No Complaints...simply terrific! Sister in-law ordered the Fried Catfish, Fresh Hand Cut Fries & Collard Greens...lots of Mmmming & Awwwing going on over there. We all split a piece of the Apple Crumb Cake & Strawberry Cake with Cheesecake in the Middle....it's ridiculously good! After we were through eating, friendly Chef Rosako came over to our table & sat down & told us his story of how he wound up in our great state of Texas...he has an interesting story & is passionate about his food and his restaurant. I am surprised SOUL FOOD is in Bedford. I'm a Dallas girl, more specifically West Dallas so I know good soul food when I taste it. This food is hands down the best thing going in Bedford-maybe even the whole DFW(including the spots that use to be good in the hood). The staff are friendly and welcoming. The portion sizes are massive!!!!!!! I'll be eating on this plate for a couple of days. I make a great mac-n-cheese so I judge so called soul restaurants extra hard. And Rosako is by far the best mac-n-cheese I've had, other than my own. It wasn't dry and it was very flavorful!!!! I prefer a smothered fried chop but this one was just as good. Pork chops were so tender I didn't even need a knife. The yams were sweet like I like...just wish they weren't as mashed but they were still edible. The gravy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
