I was in search of something different for dinner. Soul food is rare in my neck of the woods but I had a craving. I looked at reviews of Rosako's which were decent plus a friend said it was good. Honestly, I thought they were shut down because it always looked like it was closed when I drove by. I got there 45 minutes before they closed at 6pm. The smells inside and outside were enticing so I ventured inside. I asked for recommendations and the gentleman recommended jerk wings, candied yams, collard greens and Mac & cheese. Sadly, the food was average. The jerk wings were not as well seasoned as I had expected, though the bbq sauce was good. The greens were spicy but also under seasoned. However, the yams were a major hit. Unfortunately, the mac and cheese I paid for was missing from my bag. I was anxious to try it, so that was very disappointing. Will I go back to give them a 2nd chance? The jury is still out on that. read more

Today I called at about 4:45 pm to check to see if they had any rib tips left and spoke with Kayden. He advised that I would need to get there in the next 15 minutes in order to get my order because they were closing due to being nearly out of food although their posted time to close was 6 pm. I rushed to the resturant getting there in under the 15 minutes as quoted on the phone by Kaden. As soon as I open the door I was advised that they were only filling the present orders and they were out of food. So basically I wasted time and gas rushing up here for absolutely nothing. Especially when there is literally an hour left until they closed. Very disappointed and probably will not be visiting this establishment in the future. Food is fantastic but the service is ABAOLUTELY TERRIBLE What's the point in good food if its literally impossible to order it?? I was on hold for nearly an hour. We walk in as I'm on hold on the phone, to be told it was a 45 min wait for a to go order. I told them that I'm still on hold and had been trying to place an order since 11 am. They responded with "sorry, I'm busy." Really sad that I've had nothing but terrible experiences here, when they catered my office parties for 100 people. It's not exactly a clean place. The menu prices posted here on yelp are outdated (it's more expensive now) and they charge $0.50 for a cup of tap water. But MY WORD. It is SO GOOD!!!!! Not only is it delicious, but the men running the show seem like genuine, good people. It's a laid back sort of friendliness - they're not all up in your face but they make you feel welcome, almost as if they cooked just for you. We ordered the meal that feeds 4-6 and they doubled the amount of meat from 2lb to 4lb because they saw how many kids we have. I don't think that's ever happened at a restaurant before! What unexpected kindness and uncommon generosity. Even without them doubling the meat, it's quite a bit of food. And yes, the meat is good (we got hot links, rib tips, and pulled pork) but the sides are outstanding as well. Smokey baked beans, delicious homemade mac, and candied yams sweet enough to be a pie filling. YUM. Every side was perfectly executed - I can't wait to try the rest of them! With a family of 7 (more kids than money), going out to dinner is a rare treat. I wish I could say we'd be back next weekend, but the fact is we won't. Next weekend I'll be behind the stove cooking my own damn dinner like usual. We may not be their most regular customer, but the next time I get the night off, Rosako's will be at the top of the list. read more

WOAH am I impressed with Rosako's! I picked this place out for Father's Day since my family left it up to me. We arrived at Rosako's a couple of minutes before noon & there were already people outside waiting for Rosako's to open!!! We didn't wait too long in line before they officially opened. We were a bit overwhelmed with the menu since you have to order upfront, they have so many options!!! The food is DELICIOUS!!! We were all impressed! I had the Mac & cheese which was fresh, creamy & full of flavor. I had hot links, turkey sandwich, bbq & I tried the chicken... YUMMY!!! All the meats were pretty well seasoned and tender. The portions are BIG!!! The two meat plate with one side is more than enough for two people. We had so much food leftover. The staff is pretty friendly, the young guy that took our order was professional, knowledgeable and did not rush us considering he had a BIG line & we were a party of 7!!! When our food was brought out, they made sure we had everything & anything we needed. Even though they were busy and it did take 30ish minutes to get our food, we were checked on several times. This place is definitely worth trying! It is a small place, but you can always take it to go! Customer service is great, food is AMAZING, portions are BIG & the price is super reasonable. The owner of this establishment should be ashamed of themselves. We came from Cali tried to support black owned business only to come and be disappointed! we ordered 5 meals and the only thing we (4ppl) all agreed was good was the greens... To start the place is in shams the tables were filthy we requested a clean up but it took to request & 20 mins to get a clean table! The wait time was ridiculous to receive our food!! I had to send the ribs back because they were cold and had a terrible BBq sauce! The oxtails and ribs tasted the same! smoked meat!! They didn't have hot sauce for the fish we ordered and the potatoes salad had too much mayo. They were out of several menu items including drinks. Dnt waste your time or money!! read more

Rosako's has been on my bookmarks for awhile. Finally was in the area to try it out. Came in and got the meat plate with 2 sides. Rib tips with mac and cheese and collard greens. Only doing to go orders cuz of Rona. Mac and cheese and the collards were the best thing. Both flavorful and delicious. The rib tips sadly underwhelming. They had no flavor. I got them with the bbq sauce on the side. I didn't like the bbq sauce so I'm glad I didn't have it put on there. I wouldn't write the restaurant off though. Rosako does alot for the community and his restaurant struggles like most due to the pandemic, so I'll definitely come back to try other things on the menu. First I want to point out how Rosako is a giving restaurant and support the Military and Local Programs! Went through to check out how this restaurant has improved. Sad to say I first noticed that my feet stuck to the greasy floor. Kitchen look filthy also. This makes me wonder about the food. All the tables were up so no indoor seating, mask is required. Ordered Ox Tails, They didn't have any today (Friday). Rib tips were really good. However the French Frys were cold inside. The entire experience is so run down, They need a deep steam clean. This place is a hole in the wall located on a bumpy, lumpy parking lot in front of a car wash. The inside is like walking into a junky, dusty old 1968 shot gun house. Right in front visible to Customers is a make shift office with a stack of nasty papers and crap piled up. The kitchen area look filthy. - I don't know how anyone can cook around subpar conditions, but anyway......moving on! Jalapeño Cornbread- a little dry but had a good flavor Ribs- good sticky sauce, but average for the most part Blackeye Pea Salad- is amazing Mac N Cheese- dry and mushy, like it was a couple of days old Koolaid/Lemonade- sweet and yummy!! First time visit for me and I must say that you will need to RUN, don't walk, TO ROSAKO'S! The food reminded me of eating at someone's house, they even have homemade cakes and Kool Aid!!!! Rosakos is INCREDIBLE!! The food is fresh, delicious, and will leave you wanting more. I'm from California so I've never had such delicious soul food. On my first day in Texas, it was cold and rainy so we were in the mood for comfort food so my best friend took me to Rosakos and WOW. First off, who you see on the billboard is who is hand making your food himself all day. The service was friendly and they seemed to really enjoy what they do, it shows through the food. I ordered the smoked meatloaf with the Mac and cheese, INCREDIBLE. The flavors were unlike any other and it was cooked to perfection. Ummm, okay; for the good, from what I've ordered. The mac n' cheese and yams were off da hook; the greens, meh, I don't like sugary collards but to each his or her own, the temperature and texture; however, were on point. The cookie butter and 7-up cakes were delish but I haven't tried the banana pudding just yet. (Okay, full disclosure: I ordered all of this not to eat in one setting but over a course of a few days, capiche?). Now, for the only bad, which really isn't a bad reflection on Rosako's as a whole but baby, them rib tips needs some work sugar. They were burnt, tough, hard ends and not seasoned well. I got a chance to speak with other patrons and look at their food and was told the turkey and jerk wings were amazing. Perhaps I'll try them and steer clear of the rib tips next time. I am sorry but I just don't see it. I came by for lunch last week. Looking at the menu I discovered that the menu was much more BBQ than soul food unless you call BBQ soul food which I don't. I wanted soul food but had to go with BBQ because that's really all that's on the menu. To make matters worse they didn't have my two favorite meats (chicken and brisket) so I went with a medium order of rib tips with some beans and French fries. The food came out within 5 minutes. I am not a rib fan to begin with but went with the tips because it seemed that's what they specialize in. I thought they were ok (3). The fries were basic frozen type so I gave them a 3. They beans were the best part as I gave them a (3.5). The people behind the counter were very friendly and accommodating. They serve breakfast and have daily specials. I saw one for smothered pork chops but it wasn't for the day I was there. Like I said I was disappointed that they didn't offer much soul food at all. Portion sizes were good. i live across the street. I've been meaning to come here since they opened! I finally went! and it was so good! What shocked me when I walked in was the amount of desserts they had on display. I did not get any of them, but i wanted all of them. Next time I go, i'm definitely getting some banana pudding and/or some cake. The menu is pretty good. i had to debate about what I was going to get. I'm not a bologna fan, but they have a fried bologna sandwich with cheese and egg. wHAT? OMG next time! i ended up with the pulled pork entree with two sides. They were out of cole slaw by that time, So i got a double of mac and cheese.
