Due to the reviews, I was a little scared to visit but I guess we picked the right day to visit. The experience ordering was just alright, but the food definitely made up for it. This is one of those taco shops that looks like it has been around for years. The kind of place that probably has a lot of loyal regulars and doesn't see many new customers unless someone hears about it through word of mouth or reads a great review. Service was pretty neutral. It felt like the employee just wanted to take our order and move things along quickly. That was fine with us since we were ordering our tacos to go anyway. Their Taco Tuesday deal offers tacos for $2.10 each with the following meats: asada, adobada, carnitas, pollo, buche, and cabeza. Here's a quick rundown of what we tried: The asada was flavorful and tender. The adobada unfortunately wasn't great. It was salty and tasted like that cheap pre-marinated pork you sometimes find at the grocery store. The carnitas were finely pulled and full of that rich pork flavor. The cabeza was incredible and easily one of the standouts. The portion was generous and paired perfectly with onion and cilantro. The buche was surprisingly extremely crispy, but not to be taken in a bad way. I've never had it fried like that before but I actually enjoyed it. It was a little hard to eat in taco form though, so I ended up just eating some pieces like little fried cracklings. Wow. I wanted to try a new Mexican place around me, but I was met with one of the most dehumanizing experiences of my life. I came in here around 9:00PM to order a set of carne asada fries. When entering, the lady behind the counter was rolling her eyes, having just finished taking an order for a young Caucasian man. This made me a bit hesitant, and I expected attitude. When I came up to order, she was already blunt, asking "What do you want?" flatly, and not making eye contact with me at all. I make my order, and add in a medium horchata cause why not? She immediately starts prepping the drink, and I awkwardly wait for the register to get ready for payment. Once she's done preparing the drink, she moves the payment system with attitude towards me, and I pay. She rolls her eyes, asking if I want a receipt, I say no and she turns around. As I sit down, I hear the chef in the back cackling and saying something with "Chinito" alongside what sounds like curse words. I recognize that he thinks I'm Chinese and is probably saying some bad things about me, given some other Mexican customers look at me with an expression of feeling sorry for me lmao After a while, a Mexican customer comes in, and the cashier's demeanor flips completely, being friendly and making eye contact. The chef in the back doesn't make any loud comments. Then, an African-American customer comes to order after, and she goes back to being flippant, and the chef in the back says some other curse words after he takes his order? Carne asada fries: good amount of cheese and guac, doesn't really sink into the fries and acts like a blanket for the first layer of fries. Fries on the thicker side. Guacamole has tomatoes for those that are curious. Meat quality is average at best. Generous amount of carrots in carrot bag, and tortilla chips and salsa if dining in. I ordered wrong. 3 chicken tacos was way too much food for just me. I also didn't expect 3 chicken tacos and a drink to set me back $25+. When I saw it, I realized why. 3 regular tacos fill an entire large to-go box! I was just hungry for a snack and had never been here before. In the future maybe I will try the adobada and choose the street size tacos. I found a bit of gristle in the chicken. I could only eat 1 and a half, my son ate the rest. The smoky chipotle salsa was the best. The plain red was just like plain tomato juice, and the green was ok but not as good as the smoky one. Also the sizes of the salsa were so tiny that I had to keep going back for more. If you takeout, be sure to grab enough salsa out of that bucket on the counter. This used to be our to go taco and burrito place but after the price increase the quality of food went down i thought it was just a 1 isolated case but yesterday was the worse food i have eaten from this burrito place we ordered chicken asada burrito and carne asada with sour cream and cheese the; burrito doesn't have enough meat its like a loose rolled tortilla wrapper and the tortilla wrapper was so hard and dry like it was a very old tortilla. I have been a customer of Rosarito's for approximately 30 years but that has ended as of today. I use to go to the Rosarito's at University Ave. and La Mesa Blvd. which was right by my house. I would have traveled 10 miles, however, to eat their food which was prepared by Miguel. Miguel was very outgoing, knew the regular customer's names and the food was always extremely delicious, expertly prepared with generous portions. Unfortunately, years ago Miguel left and that location understandably closed. This led to my need to go to the Rosarito's on Lake Murray Blvd. At that location, the cashiers I have encountered have an attitude of "I could care less if you come here or not" but at least the food tasted similar to the food prepared by Miguel . On Sundays there was, or perhaps is, a cashier who usually got my order wrong or charged me the wrong amount. In addition, in my mind, she was the queen of "I don't give a f*%# if you come here or not". Because I liked their food I decided to continue going there, just not on Sunday. Several times in the past year and a half, I noticed customers arriving and ordering after me were given their food before me . I considered these customers may have phoned their orders or ordered on line or some other reason for them arriving after me but receiving their food before me. I stood right by the counter and listened but these customers order the same way I did, in person but received their food before me. On several occasions I asked why this happens to me so frequently. No explanation was provided. Since this has happed to me so many times I will not be returning. I was born and raised in San Diego and Mexican Food is my favorite. I've been to hundreds of taco shops and Mexican restaurants all over San Diego, California and Arizona and this has never happened to me before. I wondered if they perhaps don't want me as a customer and this is there way of demonstrating that. I wondered if they don't need the money or perhaps they really don't "give a f*%#". In any event, that will never happen to me again. I plan to go to Albert's Mexican Food (right by my house) or D Sotos or any of the other hundreds of taco shops in San Diego who understand in this economic environment their customer's opinion of them will keep them going (or not). read more

It's about time I left a review here. I moved to San Carlos in 2021 and this has been my go to taco shop. I eat here weekly. I normally order these few items: - Bacon Breakfast Burrito - Cheese Quesadilla - Bean and Cheese Burrito - Cali Burrito with fries no pico All of these items are consistently great. Prices are reasonable and competitive with surrounding taco shops. The service is quick and friendly. I love that I can make a quick call and expect my food to be ready in 10-15 minutes. I went here for the first time today and it will be the last time. It took them 20 minutes to make and serve my order. When I got home, I opened it up and the food was awful. The eggs were all dried out, the sausage was burnt, the bacon had no flavor and it was filled with raw potatoes. Taco Bell serves better food, seriously. What a disgrace. This place used to be excellent... On 9/19/2022 I bought a beef soup which used to be VERY GOOD! But not any more. When I arrived home from picking up the food, the soup had a bad looking, some bubbles on top and carrots had black spots (you can see it on picture) and the flavor was tasteless!! I don't have time to go back and ask for my money back. Today 9/21/2022 I decided to try again for the last time... worse than the previous one. Besides I had pieces of OLD CHICKEN instead of a grilled chicken. The front lady (I wish to know her name) has no clue of what side orders goes with food, I asked if the grill chicken has rice, she said no, so I bought a side order of rice. After 3 different attempts at this place, every attempt was horrible. 1st: ordered a Cali burrito with guac.. payed extra for the guac... only carne asada and cheese..... 2nd: ordered a carne asada burrito! Was very hopeful... but received AGAIN... only carne asada and cheese but his time they added sour cream. .... No guac.... No pico.... 3rd: tried again to order the carne asada... came the exact same even AFTER my husband asked specifically what's in the burrito and confirmed with the girl at the counter..... still came out completely wrong. Everytime we have gone there we have been very disappointed. I've long held that a taco shop is only as good as its bean and cheese burrito, and Rosarito's knocks it out of the park on that metric. Seriously. If you can't make two simple ingredients work, I'll have reservations about the rest of the menu. Super creamy, almost smoky refried beans, and thick, melty cheddar all throughout. Not the lukewarm, lumpy mush with random pockets of cold, unmelted cheese Rigoberto's tries to pass off. Their California burrito is perfect, too.
