I was super excited to find out that this spot had a pistachio croissant. I've been on the look out for a really good pistachio croissant. Since I was here, I decided to grab a latte as well. I wanted to get the s'mores cold brew, but they unfortunately ran out of the marshmallow foam. Pistachio croissant ($6) - this had a nice pistachio flavor but is definitely quite sweet from the pistachio paste. It is a pretty huge croissant, though. I'd recommend toasting it up, but even eating it cold was quite good. Honey Lavender Latte ($6) - it was absolutely delicious but for a $6 latte, it was definitely on the smaller side. They did serve a small piece of biscotti. I have also tried their everything danish before and thought it was decent. There is a lot as well as some paid street parking. They have a ton of different cold sandwiches and hot sandwiches. I got their turkey which was delicious. It was stacked and tasted refreshing. I got their cup of tomato soup as well. It warmed me up. I visited Bread & Cie on a Sunday afternoon with a group after one of my friends ran the San Diego Rock & Roll Marathon. We had to drive around briefly to find parking, but eventually located a lot nearby. The employees were very friendly & I appreciated the free samples of their pastries. I've been here a few times, and every visit I'm overwhelmed, in the best way by how many great options they have. There's a wide variety of bread loaves to choose from, along with tarts, pastries, and croissants, all of which look incredibly tempting. On a previous visit, I tried the panini sandwich and remember really enjoying it. This time, I ordered a latte and a caprese. I have been craving for a new place to get pastries and the bakery nearby in my place in North park closed. I am more into french pastries (croissants etc.). In Bread and Cie, they have a delicious pistachio croissant. I also love their almond croissants. The bear claws are good. I recently tried the coconut guava danish and it is divine. Because of prices lately, and the distance to get pastries, I had to get at least 4 items with each visit. I have come 2x in the last month. I also get the crobone (i don't know what combination it is but its a nice smaller pastry to eat with your latte. The service can be busy, they have outdoor spaces and indoor tables. Parking is still limited but at least they have one that is also home to Luna Grill and Peet's coffee. Ambience is the business of a bakery serving breakfast and lunch. You see all the various breads that are available, you can order pastries or sandwiches for your visit. I have had the sandwich before and they are pretty good, it's been awhile though so I don't know the quality now. Bread and Cie Cie means company in French...just like Inc in English Overdue review, as I have been coming here for almost 2 years. There's parking in their lot if you're lucky, Peet's coffee shop is next door and it's close to Scripps Mercy Medical. This bakery cafe in Hillcrest has among the best seeded sour dough baguettes and macarons, which are my favorite to to items, the baguette for Moi and the cremé Brûlée macaron for my baby Fendi. There's indoor and outdoor seating. I usually purchase togo and never eaten here but the menu offers soups, salads, sandwiches and of course bakery goods. Ambiance is busy and the majority of the crowd are older mature and men, since Hillcrest area is the LGBTQ capital in SD. Some reviewers mention negative experience from a curmudgeon especially if you happen to walk inside the bakery before 07:30a even though their doors are open. The said curmudgeon is allegedly rude and yells at you to not come inside until 07:30a... :( I didn't experience that but if you don't want customers coming inside before 07:30a I suggest you keep the doors Locked!! Service from the staffers had been inconsistent and not helpful or nice but have improved from observation and hope the positive attitude and service continues. During certain religious holidays, ie Rosh Hashanah, Yum Kippur it's a challenge to find Challah Bread, honey loaves throughout San Diego. Ordering at counter was a bit chaotic and with some food handed out (quiche from case handed to us but our macaroon wasn't and it never arrived at the table either) Quiche was good yet cold. I ate most of it and it did not fill me up. I saved a quarter of it for my daughter to try. Since I was still hungry, I ate a half of the honey bran muffin. It was studied with plenty of raisins and was perfectly moist And not overly sweet and I really enjoyed it. It was before 10 AM on the street so the parking meters were still free but if you need to park, they provide one hour free parking in their lot. I was a little bit, disappointed with the employees who did not seem very excited to serve me. There was no one ahead of me, and I waited until they decided to stop talking amongst themselves which really annoyed me. While they are probably best known for their pastries, I think I enjoy their pressed paninis the most! I highly recommend the turkey pesto. I would say their pastries are solidly "good" compared to other pastry shops in the area. Fresh and tasty. And again, huge selection so there is definitely something for everyone. Note that they can get busy so you may wait a bit for your cafe order (buying pastries alone is usually quick though). The tomato soup was awesome, I got a gouda pesto sandwich which was also amazing. Croissant tasted fresh and paired well with the lattes we got. My friend got the turmeric latte and was really happy with that one as well. Overall the food here is awesome and really fitting for a cozy bite. We came in for breakfast while on a little trip and we're really glad we did. I got the Mediterranean frittata panini and my husband got the avocado toast special, both were really good - the grilled olive bread on mine was just excellent. He also got a bacon cheddar scone and I got a gingerbread cookie. He said his scone was pretty good but my cookie was the best gingerbread cookie I've ever had - so much so that I got another to take home. The women who took our order was maybe a little frazzled and the outdoor seating was close to the street and pedestrian traffic but not enough of an issue to deduct a star. There are plenty of bakeries downtown that have come up with fresh to order and taste great for the same price. Relic and Asa are great places.
