Above and beyond. I had a presentation and needed to feed 65 people and wanted to feed them a hot breakfast. I put in an order for their delicious egg danishes one vegetarian and one with bacon. The night before not knowing how I would heat up the food. I asked if the kitchen could heat up the danishes before I picked them up. Even though Con Pane usually doesn't do hot catering. Came here for brunch on our staycation. Although we've been here several times, but it was more than a decade ago. During that time, the restaurant had changed very little, if at all. We ordered a turkey club sandwich, grilled cheese and tomato soup, and a chocolate hazelnut brioche to share. For drinks, we ordered a hot chocolate and an Americano. The sandwiches were both good, the highlight being the fresh bread. The grilled cheese went well with the somewhat pricey soup ($10 for small bowl). I enjoyed my coffee and my son seemed to enjoy his hot chocolate as well. The restaurant is very busy, but there are plenty of seating inside and on the outside patio. My daughter visited Con Pane when she had friends in town from North Carolina. She loved it so much that she took her sister another time and then me last week. I got the turkey Cobb sandwich on the rosemary bread. It was delicious. I might add picked red onion to have more contrast with the blue cheese/gorgonzola. My daughter is a pescatarian and I'm glad they have a vegetarian sandwich offer. She said it was amazing. The peanut butter toffee cookie was so good but I wasn't a huge fan of the cowgirl cookie. I dined at Vintana, another Cohn restaurant, where I learned about Cohn's loyalty club, which I joined, then received $10 off at any Cohn-establishment. What a deal! The menu offers many mouth-watering choices of mostly sandwiches and pastries, but I opted to buy a loaf of their artisan multi-grain bread to take home. A few months ago, I mentioned some miscommunication about their Dutch Crunch bread, my absolute favorite. After two Saturdays in a row where it wasn't available, we stopped going weekly, even though we still loved everything they made. Today, my husband came home and told me about an unexpected interaction with the general manager, Dania, and it honestly meant a lot. My husband didn't approach anyone, yet the GM recognized him, came over, and kindly explained exactly what happened during those weeks. It turns out it really was a perfect storm, some internal communication issues and then a batch that didn't meet their standards, so they chose not to sell it. That level of pride and transparency says everything. We're all human, and things happen, but how a business responds matters. Con pane handled it with honesty, kindness, and genuine care. If I could give them a million stars, I would. Their Dutch Crunch is back (and as amazing as ever), and my appreciation for their team is higher than ever. We were in the area for an event and came here for a quick coffee and snack. This spot got pretty busy on a Saturday but still had plenty of seating. I tried the Rose Latte which was so good. It was balanced well with the amount of sweetness. I also ordered a mini cinnamon roll which was just ok. I think the bigger one Rodger for the table, and heated up would have been better. The pairing of a hot Americano with a cinnamon roll is a go-to for me. It is a way for me to determine if this is a place I would visit again. I walked into Con Pane with the plan of ordering an Americano and doing some work. When I saw the cinnamon roll I had to go for it. Busy vibe, obviously a popular place as the line was long but it went quickly. When I ordered my cinnamon roll I was asked if I wanted the one with raisins. Not sure how I feel about that. It almost feels blasphemous but I will reserve my judgment until I return and try this potential abomination. You never know, I may be converted. Outside seating was pleasant as it was a beautiful sunny day. The Americano was fine. I would give it a 6.5 out of 10. I'm not against bitter coffee but there is a limit. The cinnamon roll did not disappoint. Warm with a good balance of firmness and gooeyness. I do like the middle of the cinnamon roll to be extra gooey, just on the edge of raw. This one was consistent all the way through. The icing was just sweet enough. It did not make me seek out insulin. 8.5 out of 10. Will I come back? Definitely. It also had a large amount of red onions on it, which was a bit of overkill. So basically, after eating bread with more bread for lunch, which I love, I went home and was automatically already hungry and had to make myself something additional to eat. I'll know for next time this isn't really a place for me that I get a meal, it would be more like a coffee and a pastry spot. We also went for the cinnamon roll that was highly recommended by the girls working at the counter. That was super tasty. The cappuccinos are nice. They use Cafe Moto, I always love it when they use one of the local roasters. The ambience was just OK for me. The place is very busy and being fast casual. I appreciated that they came around, offering to bus our table throughout the meal, but it kind of came off like they were trying to rush us out of there. The Turkey Cobb on Pt. Loma Sourdough is one of my favorite things to eat in San Diego. First off, let's talk about the bread. The Pt Loma Sourdough is my favorite Sourdough bread, full stop. It's light and fluffy, with a slightly sour taste, but it also retains the firm, sometimes crunchy crust. The sandwich itself is delicious, packed with peppered turkey, avocado, bleu cheese, lettuce and other ingredients that combine to create a perfect bite almost every single time I order it. Like I said in an earlier review, bakery is the theme this summer! Looking for a new place to walk, I didn't realize how big the park was at Liberty Station. And this bakery/cafe is right there! After Cako and I finished our walk, I went in and started ordering! I ordered a cinnamon roll, plain croissant, chocolate croissant, dark chocolate cookie, apricot ginger scone, and a loaf of the rosemary olive oil bread. Oh and the pesto foccacia and the tomato foccacia. Everything was really good! Especially that rosemary bread! The interior is large but a bit cozy and they have a great outdoor patio that I'm sure Cako would like. The only issue I had was the line for bread and pastry. The girl was working alone and not only rang you up but went and got your order too. I had to deduct a star because she forgot my apricot ginger scone, and since I live far away, I wasn't going to go back for it. After grabbing coffee with hubby this morning, I stopped by here to pick up some sourdough bread. I wasn't sure how early they sold out so I wanted to get there as soon as they opened at 8:00 am. From a recommendation of the kind elderly lady in front of me in line I grabbed a Point Loma Sourdough baguette. I also added a Sourdough Boule (I asked to be sliced) and a Butter Toffee Peanut Butter cookie for hubby. Hubby came back from working and we came here for lunch around 11:30 am. Good thing I bought my bread this morning because they were already out of sourdough boules and baguettes. We split a whole Italian Salami sandwich on sourdough and a bag of chips. Even though they cut the sandwich in half, our halves could've been cut in half again. That is how huge the sandwiches were! I'm not a salami sandwich person but the ingredients were flavorful and went well together. Hubby loved that there wasn't any mayo in the sandwich. The flavored basil pesto infused oil and the pepperoncini were so yummy. The bread was light, soft and had a chewy crust. We will definitely be back for more sourdough bread. Truly a bread lover's paradise. We flew into SD early one morning and a friend picked us up and brought us here for breakfast. The delicious smell of bread wafting everywhere and the giant displays of gorgeous loaves makes you want to order everything. We got a trio of bread and spread to share, and it was literally three whole loaves of bread. I thought that I would be stuffed after a few bites, but the bread is so airy and delicious and the spreads complement them so well that you find yourself eating more and more until only crumbs are left.
