Made reservations for two through open table for an early dinner. We sat out in the enclosed patio, which was very cozy and comfortable. We asked the waiter if the Chicken Parmesan was enough to share. Thank goodness we did. The portions are huge. This has a cute Italian outdoor seating area where you can see the bustling Chicago streets around you. A good variety on the menu, but the brunch menu is more limited compared to their menu after 2 pm. I was hoping to try their gnocchi, but it was unavailable. Instead, I got the Italian Beef Sandwich. This was not bad! The au jus was definitely the best part, but since the sandwich was so big, there wasn't enough! I couldn't finish it since it was too dry without the au jus. I took myself on a date to Rosebuds on Rush and had the best Sunday brunch. I'm a lover of crab and Hollandaise so their Crab Cake Benedict caught my eye. It did not disappoint. The crab cakes were delicious and quite substantial and the sauce was very good. The dish included perfect, crispy potatoes. Feeling greedy, I ordered Tiramisu also. Cheers to to-go boxes. I went for the baked rigatoni and my husband did the classic fettuccine Alfredo. I also asked for a side of broccolini just so we had a little fresh veggies with all the carbs. The dishes here are HUGE, 2-3 of us could've split my rigatoni. I loved the cheesiness and flavor of the rigatoni. The fettuccine was good and honestly just taste like a homemade dish. Stopped in for some Friday night tiramisu and was not disappointed!! I've been to 2 other rosebud restaurants and this one was consistent quality with the rest - the service is great and the space has an authentic feel to it. The seating at this location is almost all on a lower level, except for the patio seating. They have a super large menu and give you a nice complimentary bread basket to start! My husband and I've been here many times. I love the restaurant classic Italian feel, food is always delicious and don't skip the tiramisu. The chicken parm is our go to dish and it is massive. So tender and the sauce is great. I tried the classic meatballs which were great too. I made a reservation and we had to wait 15-20 minutes to get sat. The hostess originally tried to sit us outside on the heated patio but it was chilly outside so we decided to wait for an indoor table. If anyone from the restaurant is reading this please just add the option of where you would like to be sat on the reservation option. It's November and people don't always want to sit outside. My best friend and I were able to secure a reservation last minute on a Friday night to try this must anticipated Italian restaurant in River North. The aesthetic and ambiance was nice and elegant and the service was excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable and welcoming! We started the meL with a Stoli Raz Mule (a raspberry moscow mule) and a Ketel One Cucumber Mint (a cucumber mint vodka spritzer) and both were superb!! We enjoyed the complimentary bread which was good but not great. For dinner we ordered the Baked Ziti and Gnocchi al Forno. What we got was Baked Ziti and Gnocchi alla vodka. Mistake aside, they were both pretty good! Each had good flavor but just weren't high quality. I have had better Italian food in Chicago and paid less to be completely honest, but it was a good overall meal for a casual italian dinner. Talk about an iconic Italian restaurant in Chicago! Rosebud on Rush has the most romantic patios outside, covered in rose-colored lighting making your experience seen through rose-colored glasses. This location is one block from Michigan Avenue and is significantly quieter than bustling Michigan Avenue. The Eggplant Stack could use a little salt and maybe a touch of olive oil, but it is so glorious when it is presented to you that you are satisfied. I would not suggest getting the Cacio e Pepe as it tastes like buttered noodles and not a strong Pecorino Romano cheese. The best Cacio e Pepe I have had has been from Eataly and they used a STRONG Pecorino Romano cheese - nothing has compared ever since experiencing this. My partner got the Chicken Calabrese, and it made us both laugh because the potatoes and sauce saucière were ON TOP of the enormous piece of chicken! The potato was a nice companion to calm down the spice level, and if you like spice there were plenty of peppers for every bite. I had not been to Rosebud since their Taylor St. restaurant closed many years ago, but I always had a nice experience there. Their Rush St. location is just as iconic and romantic. It really has all the old-school Chicago Italian-American charm that you could hope for. The menu is traditional but it now includes a few more contemporary Italian dishes then I remembered. We stuck with standard pasta including an unusually saucy Tagliatelle Bolognese, the pasta prima vera, and the fettuccine Alfredo customized with prosciutto. They all were very, very satisfying, but perhaps just short of the very best we've ever had. That's still saying a lot. We also split a wonderful house salad and an order for fried calamari. The latter appetizer was cooked to perfection, but we had wished for a larger serving for the price. The house wines by the glass were also very good. We especially enjoyed the friendly and rousing service from Miguel. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and hope to return soon. read more

The food at Rosebud on Rush is on questionably excellent. I ordered two salads for me and my wife. The Caesar salad came with anchovies, but the Caprese salad did not. When I got the bill they charged me an extra charge for the anchovies for my Caprese salad, which they could easily have moved from the Caesar salad. I asked them to put the anchovies on the Caprese salad and not on the Caesar salad. How stupid to maybe lose a customer over something so silly pound wise and penny foolish read more

I'm obsessed with reviews on OpenTable and Yelp, they're like the ultimate restaurant gossip column that inspire me to try new places. After reading a gazillion great reviews, I made reservations for tonight, and let me tell you, they exceeded my expectations! First, major props to the hostess tonight, she was witty, and friendly Our waiter Jaime deserves a 10-star rating, or better yet, a Nobel Prize in waitering! He was sweet, professional, accommodating, and made our experience downright delightful The food? Absolutely, positively, without-a-doubt delectable! Jaime recommended the special that wasn't on the menu, and boy, was it on point! - Zuppa de Mare It was to die for, seriously, the chef deserves a standing ovation! Message to the owner or manager: A huge thank you to the staff, especially Jaime, our amazing waiter He gave us supreme service, and we're forever grateful! Over the holidays, I met a friend at Rosebud for dinner. 9:15pm resi & we're set. Got there at 9:18, no one was there to greatly so I made my way upstairs. (I just got off crutches after nearly 12 months of solid physical therapy & physical rehabilitation to learn to walk, again). So, I made my way up the stairs where I obviously interrupted a moment of some kind between two employees. I was "barked at" & told to go back to the hostess station. I was a little bit confused & a little bit upset to be "dismissed" without any explanation or reason I love(d) Rosebud on Rush but I don't think I needed to be scolded like a child doing something wrong. I hobble to the hostess (I still have a boot on my foot from my most recent surgery). My friend it always punctual so I knew he had beat me to Rosebud. Hostess looked like she was leaving & seemed irritated or I was bothering her when I simply asked where she had seated my friend. I took my coat off to hand it off to the coat check girl & she, in fact, was leaving so I was instructed to keep it. Downstairs we go! Downstairs! To the bar area. That's cool. My friend was at the bar waiting as expected, always punctual. I will say i was in a great mood when I arrived at Rosebud.... By the time time I found my friend, I was already irritated. I was in pain, from having to climb unnecessary flights of stairs, was treated like I was bothering the first three people I made contact with & was herded in the bar. Don't get me wrong. I am a bar person! It was a Monday night & the game was still on. It's a quaint little bar with a tv behind you, high top tables & a fireplace. It was Christmas... Cute. I was hungry & really looking forward to eating. Bartender tells us we have ,5 minutes to order as he hands us the menus. (It's 9:25. They close at 10pm) Fair enough. We order. I ordered the chicken Vesuvio. The food came in about 7 minutes. I love a good vesuvio! The peas were cold, the potatoes were cold. My two boneless chicken breasts were a little dry but the Vesuvio itself, was tasteless. It was clear they (the staff), was not happy with our presence. We were not the only people there but were the only people seated at the bar. I wasn't enjoying my meal but was not going to say anything & no one asked or checked in on our meal. I noticed two women at the opposite end of the bar getting beautiful dishes of food from the kitchen. They were drinking & talking with the manager in duty & bartender. One woman start standing in furniture taking pics of the food with her camera... not her phone. Oh, she must have something to do with Rosebud on Rush, I thought. She spoke to the manager & bartender like she did still taking pictures & drinking wine. I had a great convo with my friend, catching up on life. My back was to the "photog girl@ but I could hear her talking about us. I was still pushing the cold peas around my cold potatoes & dry chicken Vesuvio, I heard he say "it's time to go!" While laughing. We had our food 12 minutes max. It was close to 10:00pm. I wasn't enjoying my time there. It was like we were being bullied out of there. My friend didn't finish his filet & I hardly touched my Vesuvio... we got the check! Geez people! Take it easy! I had to ask the bartender to wrap up my full plate of food & was giving the aluminum container & plastic top to do it. Okay. Still in a deep convo, the bartender told my friend he needed to finish signing the bill & tip so he could cash out. Reasonable request. So he signed & thought we were okay to finish our convo. Nope. Weren't even offered dessert though the loud photog was still getting food brought out to her to "make content." Our waiters Kalie had zero personality... she did not smile once, did not check on us and didn't even introduce herself (got her name off the receipt).
