He snaked everything and at them time it seemed to be working. It had blocked up again that night. Called them out the next day to run camera. They ran it and found a crushed pipe. We paid $10,000 for them to fix the pipe. Clogged again and flooded the basement with sewage that night. Called them back over again. They ran a longer camera. Found more crushed pipe. We were told they planned to do exploratory dig in the alley as to not tear up our yard and run the camera to make sure there wasnt more crushed pipe. At the same time they would replace the crushed pipe they found. $6,000 was what it cost for all that work. I get home from work and find out they dug up our back yard without permission and replaced pipe in the yard not the alley. This is where it becomes a nightmare. We are told they found more crushed pipe and believe that its crushed for the full 200 feet down the alley to main sewer. Even though its crushed they are going to water jet it out. When they water jet it blows all of the sewage back into my basement bathroom destroying everything and flooding the basement. Then they send over their tear out specialist who tries to get us to file a home owners claim as to avoid roto router taking responsibility for the damage. Our deductible was too high so we opted against the claim. After some negotiation with roto router they decide they will do the tear out for no charge. Dont worry they half assed that too. After they left I spent 4 more hours tearing out trim and cutting out wall chunks that were water damaged. We ended up paying another plumbing company $15,000 to come fix the problem. We have spent near $3,000 in materials to fix the ruined basement. Im fortunate to be able to do the work myself, but Ill have around 100 hours of work into putting the basement to how it was when we bought the house. In short, Id not ever let roto router in our house again, even if they offered to pay for entry and give us free plumbing repair for life. read more

I highly-recommend this business for your clog clearing needs and likely other plumbing needs. Our kitchen sink was clogged and another local business that specializes in rooting came out and failed to help us, didn't wear shoe covers and still charged us. Roto-rooter came right out, did a full diagnostic and were professional and friendly. They wore shoe coverings and were very reasonably priced. Most important, they fixed the issue and have a 90 day guarantee! read more

I recommend that you do not use Roto-Rooter prior to getting at least two more estimates. They are notorious for up selling the work since the sales' person gets a commission. They are also notorious for telling you that you need expensive services when you may not need that extensive of work to be completed. They are also extremely over priced for the work they do compared to other reputable local folks. We learned after the fact that we paid for services that may not have even been necessary and we paid twice the going rate, it turned into literally $20K+ when it could have been half that price. Do yourself a blessing and call for estimates with at least two more local companies!! read more

Unprofessional, unprepared, and in general, just unpleasant. The long story here is they aren't prepared, they jetted my drain for a main line clog-when in all honesty an auger most likely could have done the job. The jetting caused sewage to back up into my basement, which flooded out of my concrete laundry room and into my carpet in my living room. Technician had no tools to clean this up aside from a shop vac-which is shocking-if they handle messes daily shouldn't they have more? Had to go out and buy tons of cleaning chemicals, a carpet shampooer, and toss out six perfectly good towels that were now sewage soaked nightmares. Thanks guys! I could have gone with any other plumber and I doubt any of these problems would have happened that were due to technician error. Had to sacrifice my own towels to damn the sewage away from getting further into my carpet, wet sewage soaked bootprints were in my carpet, and the issue was (temporarily resolved). Unfortunately, the issue struck again a few nights later, and this time the water was flooding from inside the wall of my bathroom and office-because the technician hadn't sealed the pipe they had been using to jet! As they were under warranty still I decided I had to have them come out for a second visit (different technician). Upon this visit the new tech managed to find roots in my pipes. Second technician was rude, and just outright arrogant. Furthermore, the arrogance was undeserved, they claimed my exterior pipes were clay (concrete in actuality) the claimed the root that was in my pipes was buried under the middle of my garage (7 feet outside of my garage actually), and the quote they ran was only to insert a clean-out pipe outside. Meaning after that they would have nickeled and dimed me to death until the issue got fixed. I notified corporate of my complaints, and they wouldn't listen, as this is a franchise of Roto-Rooter, so I went through the proper channels and complained. I explained both times when I filed my complaint that I had no desire to speak to the manager via phone, anything they wanted to communicate needs to be in print, email or letter (as antiquated as it is). I'm sure they have good intentions, but the fact of the matter is they only want to offer me their opinion on the issue. I honestly don't want an opinion. I want this mistake to serve as a harsh lesson for Roto-Rooter to be better. I shouldn't have had to pay for all of this when I didn't receive proper service, but I did. I doubt I'll get a refund, and I doubt their practices will change, but hopefully this review will make you pause and look at the next company on the list. I will note my pipes are FIXED in full due to another company-one that had much more knowledge and treated me far more professionally. Caveat Emptor, people. Roto-Rooter is not worth your money. read more

Do not use this business. They poked a hole in my kitchen pipe, deliberately withheld information about my situation so as to bill me for multiple services, cancelled service appointments within an hour of when the service was to have begun and management ignored all my calls to resolve the issues. When I hired another plumber to come in to fix the problem, which was now worse due to their incompetence, the new plumbers couldn't believe what they were seeing. The words "they exploded your pipe" were used more than once. They aren't less expensive than other area plumbers if you're willing to put in some time to do the research. A little bit of research beforehand could have saved me 3 partial days off of work, $400 and a lot of headaches. read more

Will never use again. Had our sewer line replaced. They left a GIANT mess and said they'd be back in a week to take care of it. A week turned into, "It's too wet." then into "the ground is too frozen." This happened in early December and they finally leveled the dirt out in April. They also had to dig up concrete. They left the old concrete in our yard along with pipes all winter long. When they finally leveled the yard (after several texts to the manager), they forgot the concrete and pipes. HOW? They were right there! Manager comes and personally takes pipes. A few days later after another text to the manager he sent someone to get the concrete. He was also supposed to have them cut the new pipe down to size since they left it sticking 2 feet out of the ground and remove form board from redoing the concrete. Guess what? They took the concrete and that was it. One MONTH later I contact corporate and within an hour I had a call from the manager stating he thought it was taken care of. (I have texts from him stating otherwise). Sent yet another guy out to do those things. Then today my husband went to do something in our garage for the first time since last winter. They cut through our electrical line to the garage. Do not use these people!! read more

Our experience was horrible he came out way after the time he said he would be here .I was first told between 4 an 6 PM then they called an said between 8pm 9 PM then I had a call from Cody saying he would be here by 10 PM. IT WAS 10:25 PM now he is saying he has a broken cable .an I asked about your company being open 24 hours then he started saying he could come back tomorrow an I said Well if I call the company being 24 hours open wont they send someone else . Then he started saying now he needed the landlord. I now am trying to reach him he lives across the street from me but all of the lights are out over there an it is now almost 11pm an he is elderly .So needless to say if he would have been out at a more reasonable time .Maybe I wouldnt have to go without a toliet all night .I find his arriving so late an evidentally not wanting to mess with driving all the way to Chatham for a hose or cable or what ever he said was broke ..I find this whole experience horrible . read more

Only giving one star because I can't give less than that. I have a very large tree that gets roots in the line. Used this company to clean out a sewer line less then a year ago because of that. Here I am again look to get it done. Prior to using this company a friend came out with a power snake and cleaned it out. Took him the same amount of time but it was over 2 years before I had to call Roto Rooter. Roto-Rooter got me for over 500.00 to do the work and now I'm looking again to have it done. We called them because we had a slow moving drain. The first time they came out guy was great. Three months later same issue same drain called again. Said it was a sock blocking the main and they removed with their tool, got their tool stuck in the line while doing so and it took them some time to get it out. Said they ran the line out 60 ft. Two days later had the same issue called them back. They told us that something that looked like a dryer sheet had blocked it this time and that there was now a broken drain pipe seeping mud down the drain in our basement. They used my personal nearly new shop vac without permission to suck the muck out of the drain and then left it in the vac and never told me about it. Now more than two weeks later I found it and OMG is the smell wretched. Needless to say my brand new shop vac is garbage. They re-routed the washer drain pipe from the floor drain (where we were having this issue) to the main line right next to it by taking off the cap to the main and shoving the line in there leaving the main wide open to fill the basement with any sewer gasses that found it's way in from the city lines. Funny thing is they charged us nearly $600 for all three of these visits and still didn't fix the problem as just a couple of days after that it was backed up again. Called a different company explained what had gone on. They came out immediately to close the main back up as there is a serious health and safety concern with it being open like that and then repeated to work roto-rooter did. The second company found a large tree root at 45 feet out. Keep in mind this is only a matter of a week after Roto-rooter said they went out 60 feet in the same line, that's one fast growing tree. I have tried to call and talk to a manager because I would like a refund on the last service that was almost $200 since they never actually fixed anything in the three times they came out, also now we know that their explanation of the sock and the dryer sheet was BS to begin with, they never actually went out as far as they said they did as is evidence of the tree root, and they destroyed my personal shop vac without so much as the courtesy of asking if they could use it. I believe this is a reasonable request as we are not disputing the other two visits. If they will return my phone calls and messages I have left with Emily, Ashley, and Paris at their 800-768-6911 number I am willing to modify this review appropriately. read more

We reached out to RR after 5 Decatur plumbing companies were no-shows or did not return calls. If this is the Roto Rooter out of Springfield servicing Decatur we can tell you they showed up later than expected but showed up! And stayed with the job until it was done! Our job was viewed as a simple change out of a kitchen faucet but, despite the info I tried to press on them, the old faucet would not change out simply. Maybe men should listen more closely to skilled women of a certain age. RR did excellent work and stayed to make it happen. Thank you Sean. read more
