I love this place! I got a lash application and not only was it very reasonable in price but it was super quick and done very well. It was only $15, including the lashes, and no appointment needed. I walked in and Colleen applied the lashes. She also applied eye shadow for free. They have a great selection of make-up and skincare products. One of the besties has been raving about Rouge for a while now. I've always begged out, thinking that a smaller boutique store would be more expensive/snobby than my candy shop, Sephora's. I finally relented when I complimented her sister's cat eye make up and they insisted that Rouge would give me a lesson in how to do it. Did they ever. I was there for about 45 minutes, getting a real lesson in achieving the look I wanted. My artiste even had me attempt the other eye myself to make sure that I understood. She was totally not pusy, and I think I only spent about 50 dollars. They had some great sales on lipsticks (my kryptonite) that bigger stores just can't do. She also said to come back anytime I needed help with a new trick.. Phenom service (and her makeup looked great! My pet peeve - makeup people with bad make up jobs!), great products, great atmosphere = suck it Sephora's. read more

Came here for my bridal makeup trial. Jennifer is absolutely amazing and you can tell she is a perfectionist, really enjoys what she does, ultimately will give you the look you want but will voice her opinion on what she thinks suits you the most...perhaps a little stubborn but self proclaimed :-) but still, a complete sweetheart! She spent a good 90 minutes on my bridal trial and what a relief it is to know I am in good hands! When she did my makeup she used a special mascara on the bottom called Blink which I believe are little tubes of mascara that adhere to the ends of your lashes (as opposed to "paint")- so if you tear or cry, your mascara will not smear. The top lashes were water resistant - she told me water proof just doesn't give you the definition. What I also appreciated was that she told me to let her know how the makeup holds up the night of the trial (if anything runs/smears, I notice shine, etc.) so that she can perfect the look on my big day. Maybe not as much of a selection as a Sephora but they definitely cater to high quality makeup for everyday wear or special events. Thank you Jennifer! You are so talented! read more

Five Stars for Rouge! They have all of the products that I need and I don't have to drag myself to the mall (support local business!) I frequent Rouge for all of my Bare Minerals and Bumble and Bumble needs. The staff if knowledgable and more than willing to help. Here is a story that exemplifies their five star rating: I'm completely out of foundation and was panicked because I dont get home from work in Boston until 6pm. I was completely at ease there with their friendly, courteous and professional staff, and especially enjoyed dealing with Alanna whom is just superb and it's very clear that these women love what they do. I met with the owner for an interview, she is so sweet and professional. She's knowledgeable about all the products she carries, and took the time to show me around the shop afterwards. I had a facial last Saturday by Laura, and it was amazing! The products she used were so luxurious, she took her time, and talked about the benefit of the skin care products, with out trying to sell me. She was very good at the scalp/neck massage, and the hand warming mitts were just an extra touch of pampering. I felt like I was far away, relaxed and really comfortable, and my skin looked amazing! a lovely shop in a great location. We had a groupon for a make up lesson. The young woman working here sat with my 13 year old for an hour and went over everything one could think off. She talked about colors and how to apply each thing. I wished my daughter had spoken up more because apparently I embarrassed her... oh well, just being a mom. The woman was very professional and was very easy to shop with after. She never pushed any of the products onto us and we never felt pressured to buy anything we didn't want. I recently went here for a makeover using a groupon. Alejandra , the owner, was there and by herself because any employee had left to go see her doctor. The owner was multi tasking having to run the store and give a lesson, but she was very professional in doing so. The store itself is very nice and much more intimate than going to the mall make-up counter or Sephora. My daughter had her hair and makeup done for her wedding in September. And I had my makeup done. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. When my daughter wasn't sure about her hair choice after the trial, she let her come back in for a redo free of charge. And, on the day of her wedding, it all came together beautifully and just the way she wanted it. Her up do was lovely and classy, and her makeup was so glamorous. My makeup came out very beautiful as well. As a middle aged woman, I don't wear a lot of makeup, so I was worried it would look and feel unnatural. But, it didn't at all. It looked very natural while enhancing my features at the same time (especially my eyes which she made pop somehow). Just spent $55 for partial makeup (just eyes) and false lashes. Makeup artist's name was Ashley. Looked great but the lashes fell off within a half hour of leaving the place. I messed up the rest of the makeup trying to fix it. No time to go back for them to fix it before the wedding I'm going to. So disappointed. read more

Andrea, the manager, knowing my style taught me how to update and improve my look with color and tips on how to apply and an excellent eye makeover. Usually, I am hesitant to go to places that claim to do it all. I am glad that I am mistaken. I passed by a couple times and a friend recommended me to go there because my acne is out of control! I stepped into the shop and was helped by Ali, who I believe is the owner. She was very helpfull in helping me chose which products suit my skin and which would help me reduce my acne. I haven't done any of the treatments yet but I know where to go now for them. I am so happy there is a local place that I can go to for my skin care needs. I've never caught her name but I believe she is the owner or manager....she introduced me to GloMinerals. I will never use a different make up. Rouge should be called Rude. I am a Salem resident who stopped by today with the intent of purchasing some cosmetics. There were two saleswomen and two customers. I wandered around the very small store for about ten minutes and was never greeted or acknowledged. When I left, I said - boy business must be good - unsaid - if you can afford to ignore someone. Wow, owner just refused service to me after I dared to be unhappy about poor customer service. After making an appointment one month ago, and confirming yesterday, an employee called me 90 minutes before my appointment to ask me to move several hours. When I could not, I was told to keep that time, but that "if she's late" it would be my fault for not changing. Then when the owner arrived, I told her I was using a "summer special" from an email. She asked to see it as proof because "they are running a lot of specials." She told me it was for May. I told her to look at the subject line, which said "June specials." She questioned if I was upset (!!), which I admitted I was. She then said, "today's not going to be a good day for this." I had SOOOO much fun going into Rouge! I'm such a makeup junkie, I'm so happy they're here in Salem. Everyone there was wicked nice to me...the makeup artists gave me some great tips, and skincare samples. I disagree with some of the other reviews...they actually talked me out of buying a few products untill I could afford it. They were not pushy at all. And as far as the return policy it's posted at the counter and at the bottom of my receipt. Oh, by the way Walgreens doesn't do try before you buy, that's why you can return it. :) read more

I had to write to tell of my fantastic experience at Rouge with Brandon! I had signed up for a makeup lesson/makeover and he was wonderful at explaining everything he was doing and what products he was putting on me. I was concerned with my makeup accentuating my dry winter skin and he made my face look so moist and dewey, even after 12 hours it still looked wonderful. There was no pressure to buy anything and he even looked through my makeup bag and gave me advice on what he liked and what he recommended I eventually replace. My friend went with me and was equally pleased with Tracy, who did her makeup. Although Salem is out of the way, I plan on making trips back as I learned so much and had so much fun it is well worth the drive. read more

i removed a previously written review in light of the fact that i recieved an email from a rouge employee apologizing for my experience which was nice and very proffesional. However i still do not suggest rouge as a place to go if you are fair skinned and are looking for a natural look. 50 dollars to get your makeup applied when the girl doesnt even listen to what you really want is unfair. It seems like alot of the people on here have had a good experience however i dont know what type of makeup they wear. Most people that go to get their makeup done want to look very done up. otherwise why not just do it at home. I guess if u are doing wedding makeup (although id really like to see an example of nautural makeup done for a wedding...maybe you guys could post some pics on your websites of a few different skin types.) then its an ok place to go. ALL i was saying is when i ask for no foundation and just coverup on any redness and undereye circles and just blush and mascara...DONT insist and then without my permission draw on pinup like eyebrows and a cateye as thick as my pinky finger. I just felt like i had no say in what i wanted and for 50 dollars i should be able to get whatever i want. Maybe the girl who did my makeup doesnt work there anymore as it seems the owners take their trade very seriously. In no way was i saying anyone was mean or unproffesional but being in the nursing field i know that the patient/customer is always right so if i am paying for you to do my makeup and u have every color and everytype of palate to work with why not take the time to make sure your customers are happy. I was completley rushed through my appointment. i am a very nice patient person but i left there soooo dissapointed in a place that had me sooo excited to go to.Its very pretty and clean in there. I booked Rouge for my wedding makeup. I was terrified to have my makeup done professionally, as I am rarely happy with the result. That being said, the staff at Rouge were AMAZING! I had a trial session, and Brandon, my makeup artist, didn't force anything on me. He would try things out, would listen to my opinion, and make recommendations. I loved the final product. My bridesmaids were happy as well and I don't think I heard one complaint, only kudos. My out-of-state bridesmaids were jealous that they do not have shop like this back home! The staff are very knowledgeable about makeup, skincare, and all of the products in the store. The shop itself is nice and it has some great products. I plan to shop here more often for products and if I find myself in need of professional makeup, I will not hesitate to come back to Rouge!! read more

I recently used Rouge for my hair and makeup for my wedding at the Hawthorne Hotel in Salem and they were amazing!! Alejandra (Ale) did make up and Sandy did hair. Ale is INCREDIBLE with makeup and it felt very natural, not cakey at all. It was by far the best makeup I've ever had done. My mother, who doesn't wear much makeup, even loved how Ale made her look. Sandy did an awesome job on my hair, I couldn't have asked for anything better. Book them if you are having your wedding in the Salem area, they travel or you can go to the store! I had TWO great experiences at Rouge this week. I don't wear makeup, but my skin was freaking out because of the change in the weather. I explained my issues to Meghan, and she helped me find a great moisturizer and gave me a couple of samples other products to try. Her recommendations worked so well that I had to go back the next day to buy the full size products. What a lovely place this is! Me and my girlfriends went for a girls night out makeup session hat I had purchased a groupon for. We got what we wanted and even more. Ann and her team members are very patient and highly skilled. Despite of getting there late due to traffic, they gave us more than the 2 hours we were supposed to get. All 7 of us got the opportunity to get ourselves beautified at a nice and slow pace. They did not rush us or pressure us into buying anything.
