Not a local, so have never heard of the brand but crossed the Indiana state line to eat due to Illinois' egregious mandates to sit down for a meal. Was relieved to see a return to normalcy here. No mask or vax requirements at all, and thankfully it appears that the employees were not subject to the same mandates. The food was nice! Compared to similar national chains, for example Denny's or Cracker Barrel, this location had more generous portions but a similar price. My friend and I both got a big, steaming plate of hashbrowns as a side. I had the New York Steak omelet, medium. Service was very good and we have no complaints about it. Great value and portions. I believe that the key to customer satisfaction is attention to detail. If you are looking for an enjoyable meal, don't come here! The first clue that this was going to be a poor experience was when the bowl of soup I was served had soup poured over half the rim. It had not been wiped off. Next, the extra napkins I requested never appeared. The server (same one who took our orders) attempted to serve our food to the table next to us. While it tasted ok, it was not visually appealing. Beige wrap, beige fries, no garnish or pop of color. I only ate half of my wrap and the server acknowledged that I needed a box on at least three different trips past our table. This morning my wife and I arrived to a friendly host and server. We arrived @ 10:00 and we were not served our food until the host brought it out @ 10:25, after we said something. The food was average. Our biggest concern is that many of the staff including the man who was working as the Cashier were wearing their masks inappropriately below their nose. The restaurant was very crowded not accommodating for social distancing. Because of these concerns my wife and I felt uncomfortable being there and we would not return there in lieu of concerns of being exposed to CO-VID virus @ this restaurant. I am a huge fan of diner style eating. I like how you can get any type of meal, any time of day or night and it is good. I was pleasantly surprised to find all of this here! I forgot the circumstances of what brought us here-maybe it was a late night and choices are few. It was busy but the food did not take long at all. Waiter was friendly and helpful plus had refills at the ready on the drinks. Now that I think about it, whenever I pass this place the lot is always full. I ordered breakfast (lol- now I remember it WAS 1am!) and my husband had a big ol' burger. Two patties and the special after 8 (I think) was for $5 for burgers. Can't beat that. They have specials depending on the day of the week which is listed on their website. I had a big breakfast as I was taking half of it home for actual breakfast time. Nothing fancy to talk about as it was regular breakfast fare - bacon, sausage, cheese eggs, hashbrowns, pancakes. Cooked to my liking so that helps make a happy review! I have been a regular at this restaurant for a number of years. Last Thursday my wife and I stopped in for lunch and ordered Lake Perch. The meal was horrible, we normally would get five to six fillets, to our surprise came two large pieces of perch. The perch was dry, fishy and highly breaded. I asked one of the managers what happened. She stated that they've changed vendors and this is how they served it. They didn't even offer a discount because of the meal was so bad. My family and I have visited Round the Clock restaurant several times located in northern Indiana on our trips back and forth to Chicago Illinois. They have a good assortment of food items to choose from - including Breakfast items any time of the day or night! The portions are large and the food is usually consistently good. Food prices are reasonable as well. We have been fortunate to always get good friendly service as well. Restaurant definitely caters to a family atmosphere - casual dining and fair prices for eating out. This place will continue to be on our list of places to eat reasonably at when making future trips back from the Chicago area. read more

Round the Clock... don't waste your time. Wife and I placed order and hers was wrong. They were out of crackers for soup. Waited for young waitress to leave bathroom to tell her. She attempted to redo the order but too late, asked to correct the bill. Told us to go to the counter and they would correct the bill. Get to the counter neither assistant spoke proper English. They deducted the dinner but charged $5.95 for soup and $2.79 for the drink. The meal which includes these items was $9.79 for Seniors. Asked to speak with manager he refused to deduct the soup even after my wife did not get her dinner. Wife baca me mad and somewhat slammed my leftovers on the counter which did fall to the ground. Paid the whole bill and left. The MANAGER had nerve to come to us and threatened to trespass us from the restaurant for damage to property. (Nothing damaged except for my paid for food). I told him he didn't know what he was talking about and said I would be calling the owner. The young MANAGER had nerve to stare down 2 Seniors while walking to the car...and yes I let him know he was a fool. BTW.. THE ELDERLY couple next us ordered Philly Cheesesteak Sammy. They served it without green pepper and were told they were out of green pepper. HOW? Do you serve that without all the ingredients. My wife and I have been going here for 30 years.... Tried this place twice so far...dinner and breakfast. Servings are huge, I had leftovers on both visits and the prices are super reasonable! I was greeted on both visits with a smile, my server for dinner was attentive and pleasant. Dinner was meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and peas (veggie of the day). Took home a piece of pie, unimpressed, I can't remember what flavor I got, but it came with dinner, so who's complaining...;) Breakfast this morning was a solid B+. You know I like to try everything, so I got the breakfast w/scrambled eggs, had them add cheddar, bacon (crispy), hash browns, and biscuits and gravy! Plus I added a banana, Nutella waffle to the mix. All made correctly and so very tasty, w/ one exception (biscuits and gravy). The good...I haven't had a banana in ages, and this waffle was amazing, super yummy, highly recommend! The bad...I saw the biscuits and gravy and was so hopeful! The biscuits 'look' like biscuits, but no. Dry rocks. Dense and flavorless. The 'gravy'...really bad. Watery packet mix that was made improperly. Am I THAT far from the south that no one has taught ya'll how to make a proper biscuit and gravy up here? Go here if you want to be called an asshole by the staff and get terrible customer service. My father ordered food for the five of us in the house. Because the order was large, he asked Andrew (supposedly the shift manager - very heavy set dude with a school ring) if everything was included, and was told yes. Yet when we unpacked the food 15 minutes later, both soups were missing, as well as the mashed potatoes we ordered. When we called to address the situation, we were put on hold three times over the course of at least 15 minutes - clearly no one cared or wanted to deal with the situation. When Andrew finally came on, he did not offer an apology or solution, but only said "A $5 credit is the best I can do" with a very snippy attitude. I then said that I thought it was fair that the order was comped and was told that Round the Clock does not issue refunds. I then asked for the manager, and was told the manager was not in and that he was the shift manager. I said ok give me the name of the store manager then, and Andrew said "no". From there he began to get snippy, raise his voice, called my dad an asshole when he got on the phone, and hung up on us. That is unacceptable, and if I do not get a solution and an apology, I can only assume that Round the Clock stands behind this behavior. One of the members in our party is a girl that worked for Round the Clock in Highland for several years, so we contacted the restaurant manager there and asked for our message to be taken directly to Minas, the owner of the chains. I will update my review if we are indeed contacted and a solution is offered. Until then, please assume that this behavior is accepted by this restaurant. My friend group usually gets off of work at 11 pm. So, coming to RTC is both convenient and welcoming. We come here so often that we've made friends with two of the hostesses and waiters. Margarete and Andrew are fantastic! Vanessa and James are wonderful. Every time we come in, they already know our drink orders and sometimes our food orders (when we don't switch it up, haha) Always a great visit when they're working. Which they usually are. Their prices are excellent on everything. They even give a senior citizen discount which is ridiculously good. Bad experience with a side of rude service. My Girl and I visited your establishment in Schererville Sunday 11/14/21 @ 11:17 am. We were met with a nonchalant waitress (easily ignored) However, when It can to ordering; the waitress came off as detached and didn't really care to explain anything about the meal details or what was included. the waitress was very reluctant about asking if we were even done ordering; she just grabbed the menus and walked off as if we had wronged her or something (we just got seated). I asked my girl did we do something to her to offend her or something, and we both agreed; we just sat down and began to order. When the waitress arrived at our table, the waitress brought whatever was wrong with her to the table. As the waitress begins to bring the food out, she only brought some of the order, as she literally shoveled the food on the table and walked away; if she would have asked if the order was ok, she would have learned half the things we ordered weren't included with the order. So I waited to see if the waitress would have noticed the order was still incomplete; so a few minutes later, my girl flagged her down to let her know parts of her order were missing. Still, with an attitude, the waitress brings out pancakes! we did not order pancakes at all, so my girl told the waitress what she originally orders the waitress corrected my girl on what she actually ordered, and then we asked  "then why bring us something we never ordered" so at this point I'm getting aggravated (I never received the other half of my order, while the part she brought was incomplete) and my girl is also getting frustrated (we never experience this level of poor service from this Round the Clock located in Schererville; this was one of my favorite spots for breakfast and dinner). the service was so bad we refused to eat any of the food; I and my girl decided we wanted to speak to a manager as the service is ridiculous; so my girl started asking around to the hostess and other workers she saw to ask "who and where is the manager" and "No one" seems to know who or where the manager was. so while waiting my girl was talking with another customer who was experiencing similar issues also wanted to speak with a manager, the same rude waitress interjects herself into the conversation and my girl kelp asking where the manager and then I guess the woman who spoke was the manager was just as rude; and giving the excuse "well we're short-staffed" (which is fine, we never expected anything super fast just communication, common courtesy, and respect), so after the manager failed to resolve and de-escalate the situation we left and dined at Denny's, which were also short-staffed, However, provided excellent service where we also left a generous tip (we do not tip rude waitress). with that being said; until things change I will not spend money here, and will also pass my experience on to family and my friends as the service seems to degrade from the excellent standard it used to be.
