First off, cool quiet little place, you probably need reservations on normal night, but I was by myself so the fit me in right away. Bottle of Quilt Cab to start. I wish there was the option to provide a six star rating. We just had Sunday brunch at Roux abs we all agreed it was simply perfect. It was a special event as we haven't shared a meal with our full family all together at one table in over a year and 1/2 due to COVID. They took our reservation for a party of 12 without any issue. The service was outstanding. Kind, generous, attentive and we never felt rushed. The food was simply delicious. Some of the favorites from the table were the grilled artichokes (my favorite, the grilled lemons were the perfect compliment), the fish sandwich, the burger, the French toast ;so good) and heirloom tomato salad to name just a few. Wonderful dinner here tonight. Our table had a little bit of everything.. the crab cakes were amazing, just enough zing and perfectly prepared to be shareable. The Paella was awesome, perfect blend of meat, sea food and spice. The chicken came on the bone and the calamari was in large pieces. We had the side of Brussels sprouts, ahem, twice lol.. so awesome with bacon and sautéed perfectly. The salmon was yum, the short ribs great although not a huge fan of the risotto the dish worked well with fall off the bone tenderness. All and all a perfect dinner and evening, wine list is expansive and in my opinion they could loose some of the more expensive wines and focus on the under $100 wine. They were out of a couple of bottles but several places told us the valley didn't get wine deliveries this week due to the holiday. Possibly one of my favorite lunch stops in town. Really comfortable outdoor seating. Inside available too. Had a nice tapas style lunch by sharing a variety of small dishes. Had yucca fries, crab cakes and mini burgers. That was plenty for the two of us but we tend to eat small portions. Sangrias (both red and white) were really good and perfect for this hot day. Cute spot :). The crab cakes were very delicious and so was the heirloom tomato salad with homemade burrata . The chicken skewers were tender but weren't that flavorful . Roux is out in Carmel Valley. It has an attractive patio and a rather traditional interior. The food is very inventive, interesting and tasty. The service is attentive but not particularly friendly. I liked the food but am not sure I would seek out the restaurant again. We were staying in Carmel which was a little too cute and precious for my tastes. I much prefer Monterrey. This place is great! Our family had an early dinner last Friday evening and Roux was on point. Pitcher of sangria, escargot, brussel sprouts, fettuccine, sliders, and deviled eggs were all perfect. If not for how delicious my entree was I'd have knocked this down to two stars. I had an open face steak and egg sandwich. It came with a mixed green salad. The greens were fresh and while the house dressing was unmemorable the overall dish will invoke memories for some time to come. The (teenie weenie, tiny) grilled steak (possibly skirt) sat on a slice of whole wheat bread. It was topped with a sunny-side up fried egg. The ($16.) steak was as tender and as flavorful as you could hope for. Even though it was an embarrassingly small portion of meat the dish in total hit the spot. Straight A on flavor. The minuses is the rickety furniture on the patio and the length of time we spent waiting for our food. Our server was a polite gentleman but once he took our order he disappeared. A busser ended up being an intermediary between us and the waiter. I don't understand this because there was one other table with guests when we ordered and only two more parties arrived before we left. There was another server working so that meant our guy had two tables. We paid through the busser. As for the furniture we wondered if the chairs were going to break apart at any moment. It's not difficult to predict someone in the near future will break a chair by the simple act of sitting. I'd gladly return for the food. The patio setting is very inviting and nothing beats the clean air in Carmel Valley. read more

"everything makes you feel like home," especially the provided blanket on a cozy summer's eve. red sangria- YUMO. fruits and beets, yes please! beet and carrot app came with a fresh gooey goat cheese that'll have that plate as clean as it started. braised short ribs trumped the lobster and gnocchi but both were delicious. portions left you feeling satisfied and not too heavy- that sums up dessert as well. we went with the panna cotta for a light and tropical taste- the broth is the star of the dish. all in all a lovely dinner with Omar, our server. read more

Very disappointed. And surprised at all the other reviews. Came here on July 9th, after covid reopening and sat in their patio, which is actually cute. They tell you to look at the menu on your phone, which is clever, and you can pay thru venmo, which is great! But sadly, the food was terrible for me, just ok for my husband. I got chicken skewers which was doused excessively in sauce and very very chewy and overdone. Brussel sprouts was deep fried, with no flavor. Would've been good to know it was deep fried before I ordered it, it didn't say on the menu. Husband's steak was just ok. Yucca fries was meh. I will preface to say that I don't take the time to do reviews. However, our experience at Roux was so wonderful that it felt wrong not to share it .... We hosted a rehearsal dinner at Roux. Jennifer who owns the restaurant with her husband was exceptional during the planning phase and actual day of the event. She made really helpful suggestions drawing from her extensive experience and delivered on everything she promised (and then some). The portion and quality of food and wine was on point as well as the servers who seemed to always be right there to pick up a dropped fork, change your napkin, refill that glass, etc. On the day of, Jennifer really took on everything from placing the flowers, to arranging candles, to ensuring everything goes smoothly. She created a beautiful and warm ambiance, allowing us to simply enjoy the evening stress free. I would definitely recommend Roux for an event and hope to visit soon for a meal next time I am in Carmel. Thank you Jennifer, the Chef, and all of the Roux staff for making this a memorable evening for our family and close friends. read more

Wanted to dine at Roux recently, as it gets good reviews. Made a reservation through Yelp. The afternoon of the res, I got a text message saying they only accept cash. Weird...but, ok. I never carry cash, don't really need it anymore, and anyone selling anything always has a Square or something similar...even the guy selling fresh tomatoes at a farmstand takes cards. And some countries, like Norway, are starting to phase out cash completely. On the way to the restaurant, drove around to find several ATM's in the Valley, none of which was working. Called the restaurant to say we were having trouble getting cash, to which the response was "Ok, no problem, we'll cancel your res". Whaaa? Business must be good for a restaurant to turn down customers! No pandemic downturn here! And no offer to find another solution! Only two reasons I know of to run a cash business: tax avoidance, or money laundering. I'd guess the former here. We walked in to another lovely restaurant in the Valley, and had a great meal with a fantastic bottle of wine, spent a pretty good amount of money...and paid with a card. Just be warned before you go. Maybe the food at Roux is nice. We never got to try it. read more

Beautiful spot but quite simply a disaster of a dining experience. Items were already out that were listed on the menu when we arrived. By the time our order was taken the main course entree we both wanted was gone. I had steak which in no way was worthy of the price charged. Drinks were slow to come. Service was uncomfortable. Food is great. Service was awful. We asked 3 different wait staff for water. We asked for olive oil 3 times. I ordered celery soup and was told I got the last of it. It was a really small portion. One of my guests ordered the celery soup also, she didn't get any, but was charged for it. Really sad. We were celebrating my Birthday and were disappointed with the lack of attention to detail. Had to flag them down every time we needed a water refill and were even ignored. Never once asked how her meal was or if we needed anything.
