We stopped into Jimmy's Portside Sunday after the art show. We pulled up about 11:35, and there was a crowd by the window. I assumed it was a line, but as it turns out, they hadn't opened the windows yet. That took about ten minutes. Fortunately once they decided to open up, they were pretty quick. We sat outside on the covered patio, which was great. We split a combo platter with calamari and oysters. Many fried items can be made gluten free in separate fryers, though it is a $4.50 up charge. My husband didn't care for the Cole slaw, but everything else tasted great! I loved the calamari and oysters. Definitely a place to stop into if you're in the area. read more

Jimmy's Port Side is our go-to seafood spot and one of our favorite places to spend a Rhode Island evening. The location is hard to beat, especially when we can grab a table outside and bring the dogs along. My boyfriend loves the lobster bisque so much that I've genuinely seen him lick the bowl. His lobster roll looked perfect on our most recent visit, served on a buttery toasted bun and overflowing with large chunks of lobster. As someone who eats gluten free, I especially appreciate that Jimmy's has separate fryers. It's such a treat to be able to enjoy fried seafood without worry. From the fried scallops to the fish and chips, everything has been delicious. The generous portions, friendly atmosphere and dog-friendly outdoor seating keep us coming back. All the years we've been to Pt Judith and I can't believe we've never tried Jimmy's! They have a great outdoor seating area as well as a small dining room. It is self serve, order at the window and get paged when it's ready. We decided to try a few different items. The clear chowder was delicious with a great clam to potato ratio. To be fair the clam cakes weren't my favorite I don't care for seasoning in them, but my spouse enjoyed them. Fish without the "chips" was a generous portion of flounder cooked to perfection. The cold lobster roll was delicious and plentiful with a perfectly grilled roll. All in all a good option when in the area ! read more

First time this season. Portions are always more than enough. Sea scallops were fried to perfection. Window service is usually pretty good. We could sit outside on this beautiful day and watch the ferry come in. They offer plenty of shaded spots as well as some in the sun. Bar was open and there was also seating at the bar. read more

I love Jimmy's Port Side. We go a few times a year. I just went first time this season with a friend. I love that they have a parking lot. They have nice outside seating and inside seating. You order at the window and they give you a pager to claim when ready. I got the lobster bisque which is amazing. It had nice chunks of lobster. I also got the fish sandwich and fries. Both were delicious and the fish was fresh flounder. My friend got the BLT and onion rings. We also shared a special raspberry lemon cake which was good. My grandfather, a Narragansett Lobsterman, always brought us here for the best seafood, clam cakes and chowder in RI. I still think it is the best in the state. Love the red chowder which isn't always easy to find in RI and if you do it tends to be too tomato flavored. The clam broth is well balanced in Jimmy's Portside chowder. The clam cakes actually have pieces of clam that are visible. They are crisp and delicious! A visit to Narragansett just isn't complete without a stop at the Portside! read more

The restaurant was just across the street from Port Judith - we ended our day from visiting Block Island by having dinner here! Made a stop after an afternoon at the beach for a light dinner so chowder, clam cakes and stuffed quahogs it is! Boston clam chowder was thick and creamy and lots of clams very good. Clam cakes also cooked to protection. The quahogs were ok but I would like more seasoning/flavor. The service was nice and helpful. The place has in/out door seating. Stopped here on a whim while traveling for work. I can not believe this place was empty. Friendly staff. If the outside wasn't raining they have a nice outdoor seating area. The food was so good. Got the cheeseburger platter. Chips/fries were great, the coleslaw was mid, but the burgers were inedible. The cheese was slapped on the bun cold, the burger patties tasted as if the had been dunked in liquid smoke and skip the lettuce as it's hunks of iceberg which cause the whole sandwich to fall apart. This was from the edge of property to the counter. Place is clean, food delicious, but I doubt we will return due to how slow the service is. Parking on site, if you go just have the time to wait. Also there is a service fee for credit cards. $3 6 clam cakes, Cesar salad with chicken $23 and lobster roll $36 was about $80. Pricey but yummy. The outside tented eating area was very nice, but we opted to eat inside. The clean dining room was bright and breezy with several open windows. The restaurant is across the street from the Fast Ferry to Block Island and we could see the ferry. You order at a window and food is delivered if you are inside or handed to you if you are eating outside or picking up. The line moved quickly. My SILs helped bring the food to our table The menu is well organized. I was surprised it included veal parm and chicken Parm. Our order included: Drinks--Frozen Margarita, Narragansett beer and a Mudslide. Shore Dinner for my husband. It included a 1 1/4 pound lobster, many steamed clams, chowder, clam cakes and a stuffy. I was surprised it did not include corn on cob or a couple potatoes. It was about $60 which was fair. Salmon dinner which was delicious. My daughter wanted cocktail sauce. She went to window and was told it was 50 cents. She did not have money on her, so she did not get any. Seems kinda of tacky to me since our bill before tip was $320. Local Cod stuffed with seafood dinner was a generous portion. Very tasty. I selected a tossed salad side. Calamari and sea scallops lightly fried dinner. The scallops were very large, and the calamari was tender. Great choice. Calamari app. had canned mushrooms which was a turn off and way too many warm banana peppers. It was nothing special. The kids got burgers and fries which were good. The two year old enjoyed spaghetti with red sauce. We brought our trash to the can. The bathrooms were clean. Pets are welcome while eating outside. We were by the pier that had the ferry to Block island and decided to grab some lunch. There was a pretty long line to place your order but it did move along ok. I ordered the fish and chip special which was fresh cod deep fried with coleslaw and fries.. My wife got the fish sandwich which was also cod. If your catching the boat to Block Island or heading back from Block Island you gotta include this place in your plans. The Lobster Bisque can not be passed by. If you just want a snack you can do that too. They have a walk up window and plenary of outdoor and indoor seating. Sometimes we just get a drink and clam cakes or onion rings. Very casual. If you can actually get the food it's not bad. I've only been able to once. We travel to the island frequently and have tried three times to call and order so it's ready to take on the boat. You'd think given their location, that would be an option. They advertise Gluten Free seafood, so for someone with a gluten allergy it's something I've wanted to get. Today I had my celiac mother with me for her first time out and we were excited to get GF seafood. - Once, last summer, I put in an online order and was notified it was cancelled. - Next time, last summer, I tried to call an order and they told me they were too busy and hung up. -Today I tried again. I called and asked to put in an order. The woman on the phone said, "what are you trying to order?" I said, "an order of gluten free fish and chips." Her response? "You're going to have to order at the window, we're not busy. I can't put an order in unless it's $65." I drove by on the way to park and there wasn't a soul there. Clearly they didn't need my business for the $30+ order of fish and chips. Maybe they need to advertise that they don't actually take call ahead/online orders unless they feel like it or it meets a minimum? read more

On vacation from NY. This place looked better on line. It was just ok. Nothing bad or great. The live music was too loud (and not really good). These places where you have to order at the window and go find a not so clean picnic table to sit at (if you can find one) are all over the place. The seafood was nothing special It was mostly fried but I'm learning that's to be expected here in RI. I definitely think it was over priced for the quality of the food. The portions were decent but it's just way too much fried food. Would be better to charge a little less for smaller portions this way folks can try new and different things. Only giving it 3 stars because my husbands lobster roll was great but the RI Chowder was horrible, should be called potato chowder, not a clam in sight. We ordered two orders of coleslaw but it came in one cup forcing us to share... they assumed that we were ok with sharing out of the same cup. You can't go wrong here for a seafood overload! The freshest catch everyday! The baked cod STUFFED with clams, scallops, lobster is absolutely delicious and can feed 3 people! The summer calamari is my favorite-- fresh calamari accompanied by grape tomatoes, red onion, banana peppers and drizzled with a balsamic glaze is so good! It's a little pricey, but so worth it! I've driven by here hundreds of times and never had the inkling to try it. I'm loyal to another joint up the road to the right but I figured I'd give Jimmy a whirl. A solid lobster roll with lots of claws jammed into a tasty hot dog bun in a classic take on the fave sandwich. They threw some old bay seasoning on top which made it a tad bit too salty but still... good stuff! I was actually excited for the dry batter fish and chips but so irked that the fish was loaded with teeny bones. I love fish but I'm phobic about getting bones. The flounder was fresh and the batter was light and crispy but ohhhh dem bones! Big portion, but I would not order again. The clam cakes were sub par. I had to hunt for clams and they were very dense not fluffy and light. Clam strips? I mean. To me, that's not really "clams" but they were good if you like the strip only experience a la Howard Johnson's back in the day. They did serve up a decent frozen mudslide. Surcharged me a bit for using a credit card. Bummer but the price of doing business as a restaurant has its cost, I guess. I don't really feel like their prices reflected CASH payment but their fee was visible on the menu board. This is the first joint you hit on the way through the main drag at Point Judith/Galilee. Right across from the Block Island Ferry. I needed an RI chowder and clamcake fix and this did the trick. The clamcakes were very tasty - some places are just bread fried next to a place where a clam once sat but these had clam pieces and had a great clam taste! The chowder was a bit of a variant in that they added cream, but also tasted good. The takeout window was hopping and there is plenty of outdoor seating. As with all the places in this area - watch out for seagulls - make sure your convertible top is up! read more

I had the 1/2 lazy man's lobster with sweet potato fries. The fries were excellent not greasy. The lobster was very good and fresh. My husband had the calamari. He said, it was excellent the best he's had. We would go back and try other things on the menu. Jimmy's Port Side Restaurant has the best swordfish anywhere. The swordfish is fresh and cooked properly. It is served fresh and moist. You can't find swordfish better than here.
