I highly recommend this moving company for so many reasons. I found them in Yelp and they are very competitive with price. I saw all the great Yelp reviews so I thought I would try them. First off, John is the lead Supervisor of the crew and he is the most patient and calm person I've met and seen with the crew. He treats his crew with respect and is very patient when explaining things to the crew on how to maneuver and do things the right way. The crew arrived 30 to 45 mins earlier than scheduled. They were ready to go as soon as I showed them everything I needed them to move. They had all the material and equipment they needed to do the job. They even handled everything with so much care and wrapped pieces that needed to be wrapped. They were so fast they got the job done in 6 hours and they moved quickly with all my heavy furniture pieces. They even placed all my furniture upstairs in all the right places exactly where I needed them to go without even telling them where my pieces would go. They reassembled my bed in the master and they even offered to help move additional items. When they picked up they helped move things out of the way. Please go with them. They were the only moving company that gave me a 2 hours minimum when I told them that we are just moving one bedroom items to an apartment a mile away. These Guys are real professionals.. They showed up on time worked 8 Hours with absolutely No Loss of energy. I am a Truck Refrigeration mechanic and often work 8-12 hour shifts in the 100 degree weather, I Notice work ethic when I see one. They just helped us move today and the men were very professional and were very efficient and communicative with where things should go, what items need to be wrapped etc. Not only that but their pricing structure was very fair. The cost and overall time was pretty much what I expected, which in my past moving situations was very rare- the movers would usually take their time or for some reason arrive at The destination at least a half hour past than expected. Short summary: I would recommend and definitely use again. No hidden costs and super efficient. Long story: Reading reviews about moving companies was scaring me because of all the extra charges but then I came across Mathis Movers. I called them up and spoke with John and he gave me a run down of the pricing and it was pretty simple, you pay by the hour. It sounded good to me. He later texted me to confirm he had my date available. *I called him on a Saturday and he told me to speak with Ava on Monday to set it up. After speaking with Ava she told me the date I needed was not available because I needed a three man crew. I had only one day to move my stuff from my old home to the new one. Ava let me know she had other dates available just not the one I needed. I continued my search and was running into several companies that tacked on random charges. Just when I had given up all hope, Ava called me a week later to let me know my date opened up. I was thrilled. She was very thorough and the communication was great. The day of the move came and Charro, Mario and Andrew showed up just as scheduled and ready to work. They were super fast and wasted no time. It was a really hot day and yet they hustled. I first heard of Mathis Moving in '99 when my mom used them to move from our palacial home to a much smaller rental. I next used them in '07 when I moved the 2 miles from my one bedroom into my swanky upstairs 2 bedroom in Whittier (it was pre-Yelp, hence the lack of review) So when I had to move from Whittier to the much busier Downtown Los Angeles, I considered others, I read reviews, I got quotes, and I just had to return to Mathis. Why? Simple. Customer service. I called a little more than a week before I wanted to move and spoke to Mike. He was straight forward and very sweet. He quoted me their flat rate of $99 all inclusive (which seems like a lot until I saw how other places charged a gas fee, a packaging fee a fucking breathing fee) I asked for Saturday, he apologized and asked if Sunday would be ok. Sure! He told me that if I wanted to be ready for them, or even if I wanted them to show up and pack for me, they'd arrive at 8am. A few days before the move, Mike called back and apologetically asked if we could move the arrival time to between 10 and 11 am. I had no problem with that and use that time to ask about some last minute concerns, he was very grateful and appreciated that I asked questions to keep myself informed. What a sweet heart. Day of was great. The movers, Charo and John, arrived at 9:57am! They worked quickly and moved on to stop number 2 before coming to the new place at stop number 3. When they arrived, disaster! My street was being blocked off for a celebration, the freight elevator was no longer available and I was, to put it mildly, freaking the fuck out. But Charo and John were cool as could be, and with a little help from me and my friend, we got unpacked and set up in under one hour! They were friendly, they were professional and even though one of my dressers got a little, tiny scratch (which I don't care about as my stuff is from Ikea anyway), they were perfect. 10am to 2:30pm for $495 and a little bit of my own sweat was well worth it. I would definately suggest these guys to anyone who is moving. And if you're willing to help out, it goes faster and the guys even appreciate it and thank you! Mathis Moving did an absolutely 5-star job on our recent move. We had a two-story house, 2400 sq. ft, 12 rooms, and moved to a single-story home, 1900 sq. ft, 8 rooms. On Wednesday, John and his team of six packers arrived at 8:30 and by 3:00 they had us packed up. On the following Friday, the same team arrived at 8:30 and loaded up two trucks by noon. The new house was about 20 minutes from our old house. They arrive about 30 minutes later at the new house and had us moved in by 3:00. They placed the furniture where we wanted them, along with all the various boxes. The team was very friendly and were very willing to pack and move special pieces as we requested. They were all very hard workers, but always had time to stop and answer questions. I also have to give very high marks to Ava, who I dealt with over the phone. I told her how anxious I was about this move. We had been living in our old home for 40 years. Ava made some very helpful suggestions that really made the move quite easy, this included taking pictures of the rooms and explaining what we wanted moved. This really took the stress out of the move. Ava also called us a number of times to answer questions and tell me how the photos were a help to her. Opps, I forgot to say how pleased we were with the told cost of the packing and the move!!!!!!!!!! Extremely reasonable. What a great moving company! I highly recommend John and his professional team of movers! The are definitely the best movers we've ever used - they are the most considerate, pleasant, thoughtful, and kind group of moving guys we have ever used. We were already dreading the move after our very bad experience with the last moving company we used 4 years ago to move from Central-Cal to So-Cal. As is almost always the case, personal recommendations tend to be the best source for selecting service-oriented professionals. After obtaining several quotes from different movers in SoCal and L.A., I was reticent about all of them. Fortunately, about a month before our target move date, my fiancée was given a very strong recommendation to use Mathis Moving from one of her patients, who had used them several times in the past and said you will be very happy with their service. The recommendation was much appreciated and ultimately very accurate. We could not have been more pleased! Not only did John, the operations manager, and Ava, the scheduler, provide us with an accurate estimate, they both worked extensively to take my multiple calls (even one which John answered on a Sunday afternoon while traveling with his family) to answer all my many questions, and they both went out of their way to do the extra little things to plan ahead that make a huge difference when providing a professional moving service on moving day. John sent 3 movers on the Saturday prior to move day (Monday), to pack and prep our 2 bedroom, 2 bath home. They arrived on-time at 11:00 am Saturday, just as scheduled to begin packing the kitchen, bedrooms, closets and living room, and also prepping our furniture with padding / blankets, etc... for the big move day on Monday. On Saturday, while the guys were packing and prepping for Monday's move, we decided we needed to have several boxes and items moved to a storage unit along the 3 mile route to the new residence on Monday, move day. John was extremely accommodating to adjust to this last minute change. On move day, Monday, John called at 8:00 am to let me know that they were on their way and should arrive just as scheduled at 8:30 am. They arrived right on-time and got started immediately with a walk-through to discuss what and how everything would be loaded. Also, since we had the last minute change to stop along the way to the new residence to drop off several items to a storage unit, we had to make sure those items were left to go on to the moving van last. In the end, it worked out that Johns decided to drive his personal pickup loaded with our boxes and items for the storage unit, and he then unloaded and arranged our boxes and items directly into the storage unit for us. He did this so that the main, large moving van could continue on to the new residence about 3 miles away from the old residence. Once we arrived at the new residence, it turned out that the entrance and elevator were much farther from the new residence entry door than what we had been told by the leasing agent. Regardless, John and the 3 other moving guys hustled and moved everything some 200-300 yards and up the elevator to the top floor, which took quite a bit longer than anticipated. It was a full 8-hour day to complete the entire move, but they did it extremely well and without any damages to our furniture. Since I have a back injury, I asked John and Ava, the week before the move, if they would be able to unpack the kitchen and heavier items as well. At first, there was no openings in their busy end-of-the-month schedule, but on moving day, John informed me that he would be back with another guy first thing in the morning on Tuesday to unpack everything we needed unpacked. They did such a great job unpacking the kitchen and organized it so efficiently, I was able to continue working on other things and rarely had to even give any direction. We could not be happier with this moving company, and the Mathis Moving team made our move such a positive and pleasant experience, quite unlike the last experience. We highly recommend using Roy Mathis Moving. We had been on the road in an RV for two years, and had our things in a storage unit while we were traveling. We now have a condo and needed to have all the items in storage moved to our new condo. It was a 5 star experience from the start. Ava answered our questions and scheduled the move. We heard rain was coming on our move date, so called Ava again and she was able to reschedule us in the same week. On move day we showed up at the storage facility, and John, the owner, was already there. The movers, Andrew and Cesar, arrived shortly after us with the truck. John even stayed for a while to ensure everything was going well. Andrew and Cesar arrived at the condo and immediately started unloading. They took down the bed we had been using and put up our bed in a flash, as well as moving everything where we asked them to put them. There were no hidden costs and their rate is very reasonable. The guys were friendly and efficient. We were very pleased with the service and are so happy we didn't have to move all our stuff! 5 stars all the way! Moving is such a big, time-consuming hassle, but hiring these guys lessened the load. They were extremely detail oriented, took the time to carefully break down our bed, my extra large workbench, dressers and even my treadmill which I'm still in shock about (they got it out of the room in an upstairs bedroom, wow). I was very hesitant about them moving our brand new flat screen TV but I just put my faith in them and let them do the job. I was so exhausted from just packing and cleaning up our 3-bedroom 2 story home. Once we arrived at our new home they unloaded the truck and began setting everything up for us. Our bed was ready to go our first night and all of the large furniture was assembled in it's proper bedroom. They even placed my office furniture in the middle of the room so I could paint the following day. All in all 5 stars, nothing got broken, and NO ATTITUDE when I was giving them instructions. A few weeks ago I called Mathis at the recommendation of my sister-in-law. From the first call, I was impressed with their service. I called about two weeks ahead of my scheduled move date and was able to schedule two guys and a truck. I was a little taken back by their rates because other companies I had contacted were more expensive. Moving is a process I don't want to skimp on. On the move date, Andrew and Charro showed up on time and were polite from the moment I met them. They positioned the truck, came inside to take a look around and got right to it. I'm on a budget so I did as much ahead of time that I could to save time (and money) and they were totally cool with that and the help I provided with moving stuff around. When we were done packing up, one of them asked if it was okay if they stopped on the way to my new house to get something to drink. They were quick to note that I wouldn't be charged for the break. Of course I was more than cool with that since they had certainly earned it. They were as prompt with moving things in to our new house and were sure to ask where each item was to go. I've been missing a nut and bolt for our bed frame since our previous move, but they found one in their toolbox and gladly replaced it for me.
