It was a late lunch and early supper time while I was driving back and stopped in at PA state plaza off 1-476 to Scranton PA. I had my order ready in few minutes and was done right. They have special kiosk/ bar for adding condiments like salad/tomato's/ pickles/ onions etc on your burgers with ketchup/ mayo/ mustard/ horseradish sauces to spice it up.. Do yourself a favor and not eat here. First, they forgot a burger. Then the soda station was piled high with ice from people dumping out their drinks. I purchased coke, sprite and Fanta. All three were flat and had a strange taste. I informed the guy behind the counter that all of the drinks were bad. He did offer me 3 bottled sodas. The food itself was horrible. Flat chicken sandwiches, the beans were watery and sour. The food tasted old. I paid $47 for three combos. The coleslaw had a bitter taste and the fries were old. Food is overpriced and tasteless. It was a bit pricy and they were ok. Some pieces were small and thin which was disappointing. The next morning we stopped on the way home and decided to try their breakfast. I was bit shocked to see eggs, home fries and biscuit platter was less then $3.00. What a great deal. There was plenty of egg (omelet) and a ton of home fries. The biscuit is the same one they use in the evening w/ the chicken. Very tasty! So for lunch/dinner it's ok and a bit pricy. Breakfast is definitely a steal especially at a rest stop. This place is a hot mess. The two young men working there the evening I stoped in seemed to be completely overwhelmed by the two people in line. I mean, maybe it was my fault for having an order with burgers, a roast beef sandwich AND chicken. That's three potential things to mess up, and these two weren't going to let a challenge like that pass to the wayside. When it was all said and done, the order took forever and was completely wrong, but I had invested too much time already and had places to be, so we dealt with it. The "fixins bar" was a mess and completely missing a number of items, including ketchup. How do you run out of ketchup? I'm usually a huge fan of the Roy Rogers format because of their Fixin's Bar. Other than Fuddruckers, I really can't think of any other place where you get to top your own burgers with all the lettuce, tomato and onions that you want. Extra ketchup, no mayo? Yep, you put your own sauces on, too. I just got a simple Roast Beef Sandwich and I'm bummed that I didn't take a picture of it. The meat was just gray. No flavor to it, even with a dose of their horseradish sauce. Adding three slices of tomato didn't help either. Disappointing, really. Typical RR with the make it your own bar including toppings, tomatoes, lettuce, Pickles, and anything you could want on your burger or sandwich. I got the twice piece fried chicken, it came with a biscuit. No sauces came with it so you would have to use mustard or ketchup or mayo from the condiments bar. I would say their fries are decent, but recommend their curly fries... it seems to be the most popular one when I was here. The location is great, it's in between Philadelphia and towards Binghamton. After coming back up the Northeast Penn Turnpike after an Uber rider took me to Philadelphia, I decided (as the Driver) I was going to need to stop in to eat. I hadn't eaten all day long, my sugars were dropping and I barely felt like I could eat, when I pulled into this service area for a "pit stop", I knew I also had to eat to replenish. I hadn't eaten a Roy Rogers meal in many years (more years than I can count), so it was amazing to have found one at a time I was really open to finding. But after standing in line for only a minute or so, the first thing I spotted was my drink: my favorite bottle of Diet Snapple Peach Tea. But what else did I spot when I saw the board was the prices of the food here. I knew these products were going to be a little expensive, but it was worthwhile. I chose the Cheeseburger Double and the smaller size of fries. Although the Cheeseburger Double was worthwhile, I found the size of fries to be a bit small, and because of the grease that they were cooked in, a little soggy. My mouth was so watery that I ended up getting ketchup to make the taste more palatable. I didn't like that you didn't mention at the register that there's a condiments bar across from the register (but not attached). I luckily found it. But unattached to this, I also found the napkins which I only took one or two (but I should have taken more). If it wasn't for the fan blowing a cool breeze around, my napkins wouldn't have been blown off so many times, and I think I would have taken a napkin or two more. When I ate the burger, I wasn't thinking about the onions and pickles, but I was thankful that you don't use onions and pickles on your burgers. Thanks for being a saving grace with this, even though this was a first at knowing a customer. I don't come through Allentown often, but everything said and done, don't expect me to be around too often. Generally I am not the biggest fast-food fan, however I was in the mood for a spicy chicken sandwich so I decided to give Roy Rogers a go. The chicken was fresh, I enjoyed my sanwich. My favorite part of my Roy Rogers visit was adding my own condiments at the condiment bar. I loaded up my sanwich with tomatoes. I like that the toppings were free, I am not in favor of places that charge you extra to add a piece of tomatoe. Attempts to eat healthier should be rewarded, not taxed. read more

While my husband and I were waiting for our food at this Roy Rogers in the Allentown travel plaza last Sunday morning, 2/16/2020, we overheard the manager (a middle-aged, balding man) speaking very cruelly and unprofessionally to the staff right at the counter in front of customers. His voice was raised and he was audibly yelling at and belittling two employees, a young woman and a young man. The young woman working the counter definitely did not deserve that treatment--she was the one who took our order, and had done so with kindness, promptness, and a great customer service attitude, and had made sure we got our food as quickly as possible. The food wasn't very good (we got breakfast sandwiches) even by fast food standards. The only positive of this experience was the nice young woman working the register but unfortunately it seems Roy Rogers establishments don't value the hardworking employees on the frontline and choose to hire as managers miserable people with anger issues on some kind of pathetic power trip who think it's ok to talk down to their employees. This was my first and only experience eating at a Roy Rogers and I don't think I'll ever patronize one again. read more

Basically, the overpriced food is terrible. I would not say that Roy Rogers is particularly known for the taste of their food, but this place seems to have taken bland to new and artistic levels.
