Friends took me to dinner at one of their favorite restaurants. I said I'm always in the mood for a good schnitzel. They said it was a good excuse to drink beer and eat some great food. They always start with the shrimp cocktail because they love the dill sauce. I ordered the jaegerschnitzel and substituted home fried potatoes for the spaetzle that it normally comes with. Just not a spaetzle guy. They had the pork shoulder and the meatloaf. My dinner was excellent but really on the heavy side. This is not a place anyone should go very often. I'm not a small person, but I couldn't finish my potatoes. It was just too much. When our server asked about desserts, I thought, "You've got to be kidding." If you're looking for a nicer sit-down German restaurant in the OKC metro, this is your place! Ingrid's (OKC) and Das Boot (Norman) are great casual spots, but if you're in the mood for trying some authentic entrees, as well as having 5 different schnitzel dinners to choose from, it's gotta be Royal Bavaria. They have an extensive menu including salads/soups, breads, schnitzels, roasts, sausages, steaks, rotisserie chicken, pork chops, meatloaf, you name it! The homemade noodles (i.e. spatzle) is a must-try side dish. If all of this is overwhelming, a great place to start is their Thursday night buffet where you can sample some of their most popular dishes. If you really can't get enough of schnitzel though, they do have a BOGO deal from Mon-Wed (dine-in only). They brew all their beers onsite, as well as offering wine and liquor. Went on a group date w/ some friends. Somehow, we ended up on a night of their 23rd Anniversary Celebration. We were greeted w/ a live band in the front. Promptly seated and quickly tended to. Our waitress gave us time to look at the menu and didn't rush us one bit. We started off with their german pretzel and cheese curds. Entrees were rotisserie chicken salad and schnitzel w/ egg. Pleased by ALL except the pretzel dipping sauces. The mustard was good, pate was so-so, and the cheese was VERY interesting. Pretzel itself was HUGE, warm, and soft. The salad was a simple salad w/ pieces of chicken (keep in mind there is bone which I don't mind). Dressing was really tasty, not sure whether it was homemade or not. The schnitzel was SO GOOD! It reminded me of a upscale IHOP meal. Schnitzel was fried perfectly and reminded me of a pork cutlet, mashed potatoes w/ brown gravy, and a sunny-side up egg to top the meal off. Our friends won a raffle that might for a free beer, so possibly there needs to be another date night here! read more

I am of German decent and married to a woman who was raised in Deutschland. We have taken both of our mothers to Royal Bavaria, both are excellent cooks - and both loved it. You don't often find a German (especially a German mother) who thinks someone else make's German food as good as themselves. This place rocks on all accounts. The schnitzels are spot-on and be sure to substitute your potatoes for spatzle. Much more traditional German food on the menu that is not often found in German restaurants. Long story short: A very special place. Everything is German. Not just the food and the beer- every stone, every piece of lumber, every decoration. The mastermind and original owner was likely to visit your table with a German newspaper in hand, he'd introduce you to his German wife, regale you with stories of the last turkey shoot (a German tradition), buy you a round of in-house German beers, and if he liked you, he would serve his private reserve pear schnapps from a German sterling tea set. When I asked him why he chose to build so far out in the country he said, "Because zis iz how it looks in Germany." I might go as far as to say I've never been treated so well in a restaurant. I would probably like it even more if I ate meat, yes, but I'm not going to fault the Germans for having a traditionally sausage-heavy diet. There are plenty of authentic meatless (but probably not vegan) options to still have a genuine foodie adventure. Purple sauerkraut is my fave. read more

This is going to be one of my shortest reviews ever. Here's why: 1. Everything was really delicious. 2. Grandma's maiden name: SCHEXNAYDER 3. The pork dish I had tasted exactly like my grandma's pork roast from my childhood. It actually took me a minute to figure out where I had had this dish before, because this is only the second time I ever went to a German restaurant. So I was puzzled for a minute at the dish's familiarity. Grandma's been dead for 11 years now. She didn't cook in her last 4 or 5 years of life because she was in a wheelchair. So I haven't had pork like this in 15/16 years. You won't regret a single morsel of the food here; your only regret will be the bill. ;) It is a little pricey... $15-25 per entree, with most falling between 18 and 21. But very worth it! I can't spend this much on dinner every weekend, but this will probably be my place for the birthday from now on. read more

True German spot, and they brew their own beer on site. This seems standard, but actually VERY rare in OKC. The owner is a German guy who will come have beers with you if it's getting late and the kitchen is closed. There's an outdoor beer garden too which is nice in the spring and fall. The only bummer about this place is it's a little out of the way, but it's worth the trip. I recommend the pretzel with pate, and a King's gold. If you're feeling tough, order it in a 2-liter boot (but don't expect to drive home). read more

This place takes the cake for best German food in Oklahoma. I love how they brew their own beer and make all of their food from scratch. Their menu items haven't been "Americanized" by any means, so if you're looking for authentic German food, this is totally your place. Pro tip: go on a Thursday and eat in the Biergarten where it's a $17 all you can eat buffet! It's glorious AND there's live music. On the fence about what beer to try? (their list is extensive!) They don't have real "Authentic" German food when I passed by the kitchen it was pre-made items in a bag thrown into the fryer!!!. I had also asked the waitress of they had dark beer, and what I received was pretty much a Newcastle. They do not serve Braunschweiger, nor do they serve dark beer! So let me first say that I genuinely enjoyed Royal Bavaria for a few years, moved away, and have just moved back. It's possible that this was unusual, in fact I hope it was. I'll update this if it turns out to be so. Food: about 4 stars Everything else: 1 or 2 stars The service was just short of abysmal. The waitress didn't check on us very often, though she was friendly. The food took nearly an hour to arrive. I don't really think that needs to be expanded on. Then there was the band. The band was so bad that at first I tried to get inside to get away from them. They were so bad that each song they picked turned good music bad. They were so bad that when they made a joke about the cost to get them to leave I seriously thought about doing it. I guess what I'm saying is that they were bad. The food itself was really salty, but that might just be me. Flavor was otherwise excellent. I almost forgot the beer! It's decent, but definitely nothing to write home about and certainly not enough to redeem the bad service and ludicrous wait time. read more

Had the chance to live in Germany for 3 years, this place brings back fond memories of our wonderful time there. The only bad thing about Royal Bavaria is that it's so far away. It's been a while since our last visit, but can't wait to go back again soon. Everything we have tried has been very good. Manager didn't seem to care we were told different. Can't tell you how the food was. But the service sucks. We call and ASKED if we needed reservations.we were told NO. Royal Bavaria is about as authentic of German food, drink, and atmosphere as you can get in this area of the world. I visited them for a date night and enjoyed metaphorically traveling back in time to when I was living in Germany. The atmosphere is really nice and as authentic as they could make it. The food sticks to some of the common and traditional German dishes and is tasty, although I can tell you that it isn't and never will be anything like authentic German cuisine. Not one bit of it is the same or as delicious as what you'll find in Deutschland. But they get full credit for the effort and the quality that they do deliver! Great for a group dinner. Large tables with square cushions to protect your bum from the hard bench. Service and ambiance, awesome. Food, hit or miss. I like the largeness of the dining area here. It's basically a grown up version of Das Boot Camp. I know they are both owned by the same peeps and that DBC was opened last, but I'm leaning towards liking Das Boot more. Why the A-OK? German cuisine is not my favorite because I feel like the food is plain jane. Simple, no frills, not much salt used. For me, a 3.5 would be more suitable for an all around experience. To start: Assorted bread basket. My favorite were the rolls. They reminded me of a baguette. Crispy on the outside with doughy soft center. Since I've had the schnitzels and the standard and not so standard fare at Das Boot I figured that they will probably taste the same at RB. So, I ordered and shared the brisket plate. It came with a house salad, fried potatoes, and brussel sprouts. Brussel sprouts were cooked well, but I don't think I'll ever get used to the bitter aftertaste. The creamy gravy for the brisket was bland. Didn't care for the brisket. The potatoes were the best thing right next to the dill salad dressing. These crispy thin cut potatoes were coated with a yummy seasoning salt that would have been great to dip in the dill dressing if I had a side of it! To finish off I was advised to order the apple strudel. Not my thing. I liked the ice cream and the studel dough only. The apples were tart and crispy and not sweet. 4 stars is a perfect rating!! A little too expensive for only having $$. I tried a flight of their beers and they were all really good. We tried their sausage sampler..... if you're interested in trying it, do it, the flavors were ALL there! Our main courses came with salad and even though there were small, the dressing was really good! I have no idea the name of the dish I got because I don't speak German, but it was the pork with the mushroom bacon gravy on homemade noodles, and let's just say, I didn't mean to eat all of it, but somehow I did.... it was really good! The dessert was a little underwhelming... after being blown away by all of these great flavors, seeing a dessert that said "don't leave without trying this", I just had to try it. It was a big let down. The vanilla creme sauce was alright, and the chocolate sauce seemed to be just out of a Hershey's syrup jug.... Overall, the only things keeping it out of the 5 star ratings are, 1. The prices on entrees are high in my opinion, 2. Step up the dessert game! Expensive but top notch service, good food, and nice atmosphere. I have only dined at Royal Bavaria once, and though it required a taxing drive and pricey bill, it is quite impressive nonetheless. Likes: For starters, the wait staff was highly knowledgeable about the fine details regarding the menu. They were also courteous, efficient, and mannerly. Being a group of five, we appreciated being seated in a corner room where we could have conversations and hear each other easily. Even in the main room, however, though the pub-like decor and significant number of diners might in another restaurant have caused a headache, it was surprisingly quiet there. Royal Bavaria is operated by natives of Munich, and the food is both authentic and very tasty. Though I am not a beer person, according to others in my group, the authentic German-style beer which is brewed at Royal Bavaria is strikingly smooth and flavorful. A deep red in color, my 59 year old father said that the King's Oktoberfest variety was the most flavorful beer he has ever had (and he's had a few beers in his time). At $4.50 for a 16 oz frothy mug, it's not terribly expensive either. The spatzle (homemade pasta in a cheesy cream sauce) was superb, and the wiener schnitzel (fried pork tenderloin) was clearly homemade and tasted quite good. Their salads and breads were good as well, but certainly not to die for. Dislikes: The only real downside to Royal Bavaria (besides the $20-30 per person price, which isn't terrible) was the location. The place is really in the boonies, and you'd never expect it to be where it is. A word of caution - Google maps places the restaurant at 3401 Sooner Rd in Moore, but some street signs in the area refer to Sooner as 12th Ave NE, and some maps show the same street as Oklahoma 77-H. It's all the same road. The restaurant is on the west side in a large building that almost resembles a ski lodge. Also of note, they are only open for dinner, starting at 4:30pm. read more

We haven't been to RB in a few years so decided to checkout their Thursday night buffet. A few tips: come early or you'll be waiting in line to get your food and get a flight of their 6 beers so you can sample the wares before you order! I liked everything on the buffet except just not a fan of sauerbraten in general and I wasn't crazy about the spinach spaetzle. The schnitzel, sausages & ham were all excellent. The salad & sides were tasty but the bread a little bland. I would have appreciated a soup option as well and maybe strudel nibbles for dessert, although there were some yummy a cheesecake bites. We sat inside but if it's a nice night out, you should definitely checkout the outdoor Biergarten under the trees - you can eat your meal outside, or just have a drink after & enjoy the live music, as we did. Our server, Kirsten, was delightful - friendly, informative & attentive! Be forewarned that it's a bit spendy, but a lovely way to spend a pleasant evening with family & friends. read more

I give them 4 stars because their kindness makes up for lack of authenticity. For example, not having Weisshurst would be a sin in Bavaria and their mustard had a "honey-like" taste. We did get their handcrafted replica beer growler and a stein that was more affordable than those in Munich. The food was very good but Americanized to make everyone happy. This is the best German restaurant in OKC. Seating is Bavarian, which means you sit anywhere you want, even if others are sitting at the other end of the table. This makes for interesting dinner conversations sometimes and cold looks from the others some times.... Some people just don't get it. The food is great and the best thing I have found is the sausage sampler - 4 authentic German sausages with great sauerkraut and bread. Good Wienerschnitzel, good hams, and a fantastic potato soup. They brew their own beers here, and I'm particularly fond of the wheat beer, but they're all good. It's a little hard to find (out in the boonies between SE OKC and NE Moore) but it's defintely worth the effort.. Prost! read more

This was our second visit to Royal Bavaria and well worth the 1+ hour drive from our farm in South Central OK. The food is delicious and very authentic and my husband enjoyed his beer and I found a good selection on the wine list. Service was great and our waitress was friendly and efficient and even though it was Saturday night with a full house, we had an enjoyable and exceptionally good dinner. The only reason I did not give five stars is one of our party ordered brisket which was dry. We gave him a hard time going home for ordering an American dish in a fine German restaurant. A congenial host and great German cuisine from two people who know German food well. I make a better red cabbage though yours is good! Thanks for a memorable evening. read more

I came here for the first time last night. Wanted to enjoy a nice dinner with my boyfriend and daughter. Being a chef, I'm pretty familiar with restaurants, and expectations. I got the vegetable strudel, which had almost no vegetables in it, my strudel was rubbery and underdone, and if by vegetables, you mean a piece of broccoli, and a few simdried tomatoes, I'm not impressed. Especially for 12 dollars. My daughter got the children's schnitzel, which was crispy and Delicious, and my boyfriend got your dried chicken breast which was overdone and lacked in flavor. For dessert we had the apple strudel, which had absolutely no flavor. Being a pastry chef, this was quite the disappoint. At the least, the dessert could have tasted good. For any new foodies out there I would not recommend this as a go to. Other than the good service and fun music, for 60 dollars I would have rather eaten at a chain restaurant. read more

This place is in the middle of a field. First off you park in a pasture, no concrete, so if it's rained, then it's pure mud. They have an oil rig that's working maybe 50 ft off the back door. I shouldn't have to tell you what problems arise from a nearby oil rig and a places water supply. I worked in the oil and natural gas field as an inspector for years. Contamination is a huge problem. For someone to put a restaurant within a few feet of one is inviting cancer causing agents. So right away I refused to eat or drink anything not bottled. My shoes were ruined by the mud, and whike I sat and watched everyone else eat I noticed a ton of problems. Waiters fingers in food while carrying it, etc. Will never eat here, and you shouldn't either. If you don't care about you or your families health, the food was complimented on by everyone. read more

Maybe just a bad experience but I had 3-5 flies assaulting my face and legs throughout the whole meal. I was constantly having to shoo them off of my food. There were visible fly traps hanging from the outside of the building full of flies. The restaurant was hot and I was sweating the whole time. Then, I was served BURNT to a crisp French fries with my meal. Just a really awful experience in general. Don't think I should be dining with flies, sweating & eating burnt french fries when I am paying $20 an entree. read more

We went to Royal Bavaria with family who were visiting from another state. We walked in with a group of 8 and were seated right away, as it wasn't very busy when we arrived. Our waitress was wonderful and gave us great service. We ordered an array of dishes and everyone was very happy with their meal. It was delicious! We then ordered bread pudding, apple dumplings, and the streudel. All were delicious and we split them all among our group of 8. Will definitely be back soon and cannot wait for another wonderful experience. read more
