We were craving Chinese Food and decided to come here because the reviews were pretty good, "it's what you expect for the price" they read. Where I'm from there's places that don't have that great reviews but the food is great! Walking in it was packeddd so we got even more excited, got seated only to have a server that didn't speak any English. I work as a Server at a Brewery and as a Server at a country club so si know service and ofcourse the pricing of different places is basically how the service will be. I was expecting okay service but me being friendly and smiling I was hit w a blank stare and a faint "drink". My boyfriend responded with "A coke" I said same thing for me please and was hit with a blank stare. Food smelt so good but when we went the fried rice was burnt and looked and tasted dated. Everything else was below average or was dry, they had bread rolls and garlic bread and it was stale and cold under the heat lamps??? The greatest part was the fortune cookie lol And the ice cream bar, pudding and fruit. If I would have written a review when this place first opened, It would have been a 5 star without a doubt. Service was top notch, the restaurant was clean, the food was awesome and the selection was just as good. However, over the last two years, this place has started to really ... well... suck. I give it three stars because there is never a wait to sit down. Its a cozy atmosphere and they have hard ice cream. The downfalls: They CHARGE BY THE POUND FOR CRAB LEGS NOW. WHAT??? Rip off. Secondly, they only put out small portions of food items at a time so you find yourself constantly waiting on something to be refilled. Another huge downfall is the slow service. It always takes a long time to be approached by a server for a drink order or to remove dirty plates from your table. The other issues I have with them are not enough beef/pork items on the buffet, the sushi selection is poor and its not fresh. The ice cream machine seems to always be out of order. BUMMER. Start off the food was fine but the service was TERRIBLE. So let's start out with the fact that my friend is special needs so things like splitting bills etc. is a hard thing for him. I tell the waitress before we sit that we're going to need separate bills. Shouldn't be that hard even with someone with limited English skills. We ate and were finishing up but I had to go to the restroom. I get a text from my buddy telling me the waitress is now yelling at him. I hurry up and go out and I have to explain to this woman that we told her separate bills before we even sat down and it finally sunk into her thick skull so she stomps off to the counter to split the bill. My buddy always pays in cash but I use my debit card for everything. I'm not thinking when I hand it back to her because I left the fortune cookie on the credit card tray so she picks it up and literally throws it across the table and stomps off with my card. By this time I'm biting my lip not to yell at her but she comes back, I make sure she gets the price of the meal and no tip. I didn't yell or complain to the manager because they just don't get how rude they are and I'd be wasting my breath and raising my blood pressure for nothing. Shrimp had not been cleaned. I asked the person who seated me for a Coke but there was only water on the table when I returned to my seat with my food. We went yesterday, 11/13/21, at the kids request. That will be the last time we ever go. I am confident I contracted food poisoning from one of the seafood dishes, most likely the coconut shrimp. I have been sick all day and felt sick within a few hours of leaving, all the tell tale signs of food poisoning. No one else in my family had any seafood and they are fine. This is one of the few buffets of which I am a full-fledged-fan! The enormous selection of food, (there must be a couple-hundred items) is such that it precludes the possiblity that everything will be of top-shelf freshness. However, they do as good a job as is practicable in keeping the foodstuffs properly freshened and supplied. An early arrival for your meal helps insure optimum freshness of a maximum number of dishes. And if you're inclined they have a surprisingly under-utilized station where one can select one's protein and other fixin's and have an absolutely fresh main dish made-to-order. Nothing bad to say at all, and reasonably priced as well. The dinner fare closely resembles the luncheon fare but at a higher price so go to lunch! This place had long been a favorite of mine, but has gone drastically downhill. The Majority of the food is cold or has been sitting long enough to become rubbery. There's an unpleasant odor throughout that detracts from the dining experience. Some of the wait staff come across as very rude, though in all fairness, this could be a language barrier thing. I applaud them for the wide variety of food they offer and their COVID precautions, but overall it just isn't a place I want to eat anymore, which is truly a shame as I loved dining here in the past. This place is great when it's busy, because they are consistently changing over empty food bins with new fresh food. I am a big fan of the Sushi here because it is FRESH!! Doesn't taste like buffet sushi at all!! My boyfriend and his mother had the crab legs and said they were very good and worth every penny of the $10 up charge. When they are slow the food is a little less AWESOME still OK just not AWESOME. Service was polite and attentive. First of all, this place is HUGE. I went on a Saturday night and it was quite busy. There were a lot of options, including your traditional buffet fare, sushi, and hibachi grill. The food was hot and refreshed quickly. The bad: The egg rolls were a major letdown. The cabbage was roughly chopped and there was no seasoning at all which made for a very forgettable experience. The dumplings tasted good except that the dough was much too thick which meant that some areas were under cooked. The good: The crab rangoon (or fried cream cheese dumpling) were excellent as was their fried rice. The sesame chicken was crispy and sweet and the bourbon chicken was perfect. Didn't get to try the hibachi because the line was long, but it looked very good, with fresh vegetables and an assortment of meats! If I am in the Chapel Hill area, I would go back to Royal Buffet, but it's not my first choice for Chinese. It is very crowded with slightly above average food. read more

We were pleasantly surprised at how flavorful and good the food is in this place despite the fact that we had a sub par service (hence the 4 star). Our plates and drinks weren't cleared and replenish at a timely manner since all our server did was stand around the corner. We will definitely try it again if ever we are in the area and hopefully we would get a better service this time. read more

Let me just start this review with saying the hostess is extremely rude and you can just tell she hates her job/life/you. She was awful to us and spoke about us in another language(my friend can translate). Onto the food- everything and I mean everything was cold. They must use the wrong kind of bulb for those heat lamps or forget to heat the water below (whichever it is). The sushi was awful and I feel like I'm going to vomit because it didn't taste fresh. I will continue with saying the waitress we had was not bad and extremely nice about refills, though she dropped a dirty plate on our table. The desserts were dry and not worth it. In my opinion this Is one of the best Chinese buffet's In the Akron area, If not, Northeast Ohio. They have a wide variety of dishes to choose from and all the food Is made exceptionally well. Me and one of my fellow reviewers came here on a Tuesday afternoon to get our fix for some Chinese food. First things first, the buffet is $11.99. For those of you coming for crab legs, it'll tack on another $15 to the bill. Sushi is free but very underwhelming. The drink menu consists of your standard beers and cocktails and ranges from $3-$7 a piece I believe. The dining room is incredibly empty around 3:00 during the week so if you want to take a pass on the loud noise and crowds by the buffet this may be a good time to consider going. We walked in and were greeted pretty fast by our server who escorted us to our table and not long after got our food. I first had lo mien, sesame and general tsos chicken, as well as some cheese covered spinach. One thing to note about this place is they keep the food incredibly hot in the buffet so it stays relatively fresh (tasting) regardless of how busy it is and how often it is replaced. The chicken in general was pretty standard and I have really nothing bad to say about it; the same was true for the lo mein and rice, however a liberal amount of soy sauce was needed to give it taste. The broccoli chicken however had a rather strange taste to it. This could've been my own pallet's bias, and to be clear, It didn't taste as though it was old or rotten, just really weird. After I grew sick of the salty noodles and meat, I dove into the sweet section. It was pretty standard for any buffet, and consisted of peaches, some melon I believe, and that same chocolate pudding that literally EVERY buffet in Ohio seems to use. The rather disappointing bit was there ice cream dispenser was out of service; what a shame. This machine is another thing seemingly standardized among Ohioan buffets, consisting of chocolate and vanilla flavors that are amazingly able to be mixed AUTOMATICALLY by the machine! I'm sure if it worked, it would dispense the same basic water-based okay ice pseudo-cream that they all do. As for the service, it was decent as far as buffets go, albeit not much intervention is needed for their guests as it's all self serve. Wrapping up: all in all, if your roaming around northern Akron and looking for a place to pack you to the brim with mediocre albeit mostly acceptable Chinese food, there is no place better than royal buffet. This place is an overall disappointment. The lunch time pricing is decent, the vegetables seem very fresh, and the sushi is decent for what you normally get at a buffet. That's the only good I can say however. Most of the food I tried read either extremely bland and tasteless (the hot and sour soup had almost no flavor at all) or the entire dish tastes only of onion. The meat I tried is all dry, and a lot of it is very stringy because of this. On top of all that, most of the dishes were cold despite the place only opening 30 minutes ago. I didn't try the fresh hibachi, but I don't think it would be enough for me to recommend the place to anyone. What can I add that has not already been said? VERY large... so no wait to be seated even during the busy holiday shopping season. This is close to the Howe Ave. exit of Route 8 and the myriad fast food joints fill up fast on weekends... so this is a go to back up. Steam tables are run too hot and the pans do not fit well... so when it is not busy it is like a tropical rain forest on some of the lines... always random... but when it is busy and the trays are being used / changed out often it does not seem to be a problem. Crab is extra... grill chef is often absent... hard to pick items that are not deep fried. We have started heading North all the way to Macedonia for the Asian buffet there rather than come back here. read more
