My family has been going to Royal Garden since they opened in the 80's. There has been a huge change (new owners maybe?) in the past few months and this has turned into one of the most disappointing place for Chinese. The last order was very greasy, the duck sauce seemed watered down and there was no rolls with the order - as there always was in the past. Horrible Chinese food. Pepper steak dish came without any rice. Crab rangoon full of cream cheese, no crab. Instead of rice we got two plain sub rolls wrapped in plastic wrap. ..?! Why sub rolls? I ate one serving of pepper steak and threw rest away. My friend had some beef satay and crab rangoon and got sick a few short hours after eating that. I do not recommend this place. read more

How anyone can rate this place above one star is a testament to the general absence of good Chinese food in the area. I have frequented places from Florida to Maine and California and this place would not support 5 negative stars. First the place is dull and dingy which adds to the negative environment, Next the "bread service" is a major tip off for the food that follows. Now for the food: The egg rolls were swimming in oil, the dumplings were undercooked, the lo mien was really vermicelli in a horrible brown sauce with shrimp the size of a dime, the vegetable dish was in an even darker brown sauce and the looked, and tasted old. Actually none of the food seemed fresh. After two or three forkfuls I had to stop eating. Apparently if you want a big mound of something on your plate this is the place for you. If you want something that looks and tastes good find another place or grab a burger at McDonald's down the street. You will be better off. Based on other reviews I would guess they lost their cooking staff in 2009 and replaced them with the dishwashers. Will keep you posted if i need to get my stomach pumped. I order from here more than any other Chinese food place and I usually love it! Recently I feel like service has gotten weird/different than before. My "boneless spare ribs" weren't boneless at all, my delivery was over an hour late, and the delivery drive just came right into my house and knocked on my bedroom door which was honestly the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me in my life concerning delivery food. read more

Wonderful place for good Chinese food in this area. I went to a lot of other places but none of them were as good as this one. What happened to the Royal Garden? The food used to be so good. I haven't been there in over a year, it was always my go to place for Chinese. Stopped here for take out a few days ago, worst Chinese food I've ever had. The chicken wings were under cooked, the lo mein was made with fat soggy noodles and had a flavor that tasted like bad fish and the Rangoon's had a wrapper that looked like white thin paper with burnt edges. Royal Garden has really gone downhill. The food got really heavy and greasy and just gross. SO disappointing. My mom and I came here several months ago and both felt really sick the 15 minute drive home. We now go to Mandarin & Tokyo in Green Harbor 5 minutes away from home. Over the past few months this restaurant has been going down hill. When getting pick up orders they have been wrong. This last time they accused me of not ordering right and try to convince me to still take and pay for wrong order. They finally agreed to fix it. When I got home the order was still wrong, cold and very disappointing. When I called to let them know they wanted me to come back, since I already had to wait over 20 mins for them to fix it and still be wrong I choose to write this review. Great entertainment on Thursday night with DJ Clay karaoke but the food is horrible very tasteless I live in Attleboro Ma and go to the Hong Kong Chinese restaurant and the food there is 100% more delicious have tried pretty much everything on Royal Gardens menu and It is not good at all will not order food when I go from now on. read more

I was craving some Chinese food and General Tso chicken with pork fried rice is my favorite dish. Royal Garden has a General Gau's chicken which I believe is exactly the same thing. Went there last night. Ordered chicken wings. The order had 4 wings. We asked about it and the waitress said it comes small or large. Did not state that on menu. We have been eating there for yrs. and have never heard of this. They also didn't have Chardonnay wine. Never had that happen in any restaurant. Also Lo Main now comes in small ore large. Again this is not stated on menu. We did not recognize any of the people working there. There seems to be a entirely new bunch of people there. Maybe it has been sold.?? This place is mediocre. I came here on a hot summer day hoping to go to a nice restaurant with air conditioning. When I walked in, the place was just as hot as it was outside. But whatever, I sat down at a table and opened the butter packet for my bread which spilled on my pants because it was so damn hot in there. People who post one star reviews here have either never eaten Chinese food or don't understand places like Royal Garden. If you want to get some decent food, amazing drinks, and enjoy an old school Chinese Restaurant atmosphere, this is the place for you. Take-out is always good here, in fact it's probably better than the in-dining experience. If you sit on the bar-side you're bound to have a good time (if you're ready for some drinking and don't mind some noise). This is not gourmet Chinese Food and don't expect some 5-star Asian sensation menu. This is an old-school Chinese restaurant that serves some damn good food. It's not for the picky or the elite. Anyone from Kingston, Pembroke, and West Duxbury knows this is the place to be when it comes to great Chinese Food. read more

The sauce for the sweet and sour chicken had two maraschino cherries and two chunks of pineapple. There must be a fruit shortage I wasn't aware of. I'm still looking for the pork in my pork fried rice. The pork ends were dry as dust and came with some vile sour sauce. I had to run to the kitchen sink and vomit the next morning. read more

Dining at the Royal Garden in Kingston was a pleasant experience. The large dining room is attractive, featuring various lamps and other decorations. Dinner began with a pot of tea and bread and butter-- a nice touch. Our food was served piping hot, especially the crab rangoons, which were absolutely delicious. The portions are big. My coconut something drink was also good. The service was friendly. We not only got fortune cookies for dessert, but also fresh pineapple. What a great way to end a meal! If I could give less stars I would. Nothing like going out for a nice drink with a friend only to be greeted by a table of four screaming ( one woman in the party) obscenities at the top of her lungs and slamming napkins in the table. We moved twice and still no relief. We had all ready ordered so we waited in order to speak to the waitress. She went to put down our beers ... I asked if that party was leaving . She said " oh they are going to cash out shortly" then they were served again!! I said we didn't come for this and I don't want the beer we ordered. We walked out. Can you only imagine these people actually behind the wheel???i called today and they didn't seem to care very much . The manager will be in tomorrow , I will continue further. Also there were elderly patrons in the dining room and all this was ignored by the entire staff. Overserving is no joke neither is a drunk crazy person . We decided to order take-out from Royal Garden last night learning that there were new owners and heard from others that the food was very fresh. We usually order from another place in Pembroke, but Royal Garden is closer. First of all, I must say the customer service is excellent. Very nice on the phone and when I picked up the food. But....the prices are very high in comparison to our normal place and I am not sure the food's quality was worth the money. The General Gau's chicken was crispy on the outside and had a bite but the chicken was dry and lifeless inside. My favorite dish, veggie low mein, had barely any vegetables in it!!! I paid $9.00 for noodles. And it didn't have any flavor! The chicken fingers were tasteless and the chicken was hard and dry. Don't mess with my chicken fingers!!! And lastly, the boneless spareribs were okay, probably the best out of the order. Unfortunately, Royal Garden, we will not be back. I pretty much threw $40 bucks out the window. Please, taste test your food! And what are you doing to the poor chicken? If you are going to charge that much per dish, it needs to taste a whole lot better! read more

I have been ordering from Royal Garden for a couple of years. I am single and like to sit at the bar and grab a quick dinner when I choose to eat out. That is a disaster at Royal Garden. The bar trolls are loud, obnoxious, foul-mouthed and are over-served by a bartender that seems to be part of their party. However, the food is always fresh and good - even when delivered. They also need to tell their bar patrons to step away from the doorway when smoking. read more

I ate at this establishment on Friday March 25th 2016 with a group of 8 other people. Everyone else in my party paid cash and I had $33 put on my debit card. I signed the slip, took my copy and left thinking nothing of it. I was shocked an hour later when I checked my online statement and saw that I had been charged $204 (the entire bill). I called and spoke to our waiter and he explained the mistake and said it should be fixed by the next morning. The next day it was not fixed so I called at 11:30 and was told to call back later. I called 9 times that day before the manager Ken was able to speak to me. Ken, a nightmare to all customer service, told me that I was lying and that he "didn't care" (direct quote from Ken) even though I have a charge slip for $33 not $204. When I said that I was going to go to the local newspaper and file a police report he changed his tune and said that he would reverse the charge immediately and he would call me back. He did call me back 45 minutes later (when I was about to perform in a play) and I said that I would call him back. I called him on Sunday morning (there was no change to my bank statement). He told me that it was a problem with me bank. I had spoken to my bank several times. Ken refused to tell me the owners name when I asked him. I asked to speak to the owner. Ken said no and that he was too busy to deal with me and hung up. I called Monday morning and Ken told me that I needed to give him my bank account number. Not my card number but my account number. I said that I was not comfortable giving that information. He said that he can not and will not help me if I didn't give him my account number. I asked to speak to the owner. Ken said no. I said that my business with Ken was done and I wanted to speak to the owner and was told no again. I told Ken that we were done and that I was going to file a fraudulent charge on my debit card, which is what I did after I hung up with Ken. This establishment stole $204 from me and refused to return it. They told me that I was a liar and made me jump through hoops. I have never in my life experienced such horrific and offensive customer service. According to my bank, they have done things like this before and I'm sure they will do it again. Do not support this establishment. They are awful and the food is mediocre at best. If I could give them zero stars I would. read more

if you think royal garden is the best chinese food in the south shore, I challenge you to try the new Sun Dynasty, which is the former Ming, then we can really settle this. i tried Sun dynasty last week and no doubt they are better than royal garden. We moved from Pembroke to Florida more than 20 yrs ago....have never had food that great since ...they don't even know what chicken fingers are! I will never go to this place again! I use to love this place but it has gone way down hill. A couple of weeks ago I ordered pork fried rice and eggrolls delivered. The rice was horrible! Burnt and tasted like it was sitting at the bottom of the barrel and scraped it out and microwaved it. the egg rolls were ok except very greasy on the ends. I called and complained and they said they'd care of me next time. Well tonight was the next time. First it is extremely difficult to order when their English is minimal . I asked what the royal rice was and after she tried to tell me I ended up ordering pork fried rice because I couldn't understand a word she said. I hate that. I should have known better to check my order before I left. I got home and they had given me The royal fried rice and they never gave me any compensation for the last order that I had to throw out. They didn't know what I was talking about. I called again this time and complained and they offered NOTHING. You would think they would offer to deliver free of charge the pork fried rice that I had ordered. We are not in China so I have no need to learn just to understand them. It's their job t5o learn proper English. I would highly suggest you check your take out or delivery order before you leave or before the delivery leaves. They lost me as a faithful customer. New owners! New cooks too. be warned. Their prices have skyrocketed. You can't even get a small size, but the worst part was the Cashier. I've been eating Chinese food all over Ma, RI, NH, Me, VT, NY, and CA. I even worked at a Chinese restaurant! This is the first Chinese restaurant I have encountered in 40 years of eating/ordering chinese food that will not make a dish the way you request! I even offered to pay more money to get it made the way it's made at 90% of the Chinese restaurants I've ever been in. I wanted Kung Pao chicken made with celery, carrots, peppers and onions, he said they don't use carrots. I said "you don't have them?" he said "we have them we don't put in that dish") The guy was rude, made me wait quite a long time while he went "to ask the cook if he could do it" then he comes back and says "that's not the way we make it here" so, I again offered to pay extra. He said no. it was then that I told him that this was the 1st Chinese restaurant I'd ever been in that didn't gladly make a dish how u requested it, I went on to tell him I had even WORKED in one, he asked me where, when I told him where he proceeds to tell me that there is NO Chinese restaurant there! Basically calling me a liar! With that I told him "forget it, I don't want anything from this place." The new cooks aren't as good as the ones who were there 20 years, for the prices they charge their food should be top notch and it is just average. We grew up going to this restaurant from the time we were just little babies. What the new owners have done to this once great business is an absolute travesty. They fired all their old staff, no more friendly, familiar faces and great food you've come to expect. Gone are the generous portions and expertly-prepared dishes. Now you can expect tiny portions, higher prices, and food that is absolute garbage. If only the previous owners could somehow come out of retirement and set things straight... but I suppose all good things must come to an end. Do not go here! Bought half of a Peking duck for delivery which was supposed to come with a "pancake for wrapping". When it arrived the first thing I noticed was that the duck was served on top of A LOT of iceberg lettuce. Once I overlooked that I realized the "pancakes" were actually about 4 or 5 TORTILLAS that seemed as though they had either been steamed or microwaved just before being delivered. Not that I expected too much from ordering from an American Chinese food joint, but to sell tortillas as "pancakes" with some okay duck for $21 with delivery fees seems a little absurd. Since this is the first time I have ordered from them, I'm not sure wether or not this is par for the course. Hopefully not. read more

Everything here is wonderful. The food is amazing, and very reasonably priced considering that it is best food on the planet. The decor is fabulously retro if you're into that; if not, suck it, go to Burger King. When I moved to California, I cried myself to sleep for a month knowing that I couldn't eat at Royal Garden three days a week anymore. The waiters are friendly and spectacular. Particularly Jake, Jake is the Chuck Norris of waiters. Jake knows what your going to order before you even know you want to go out for Chinese at all. Sometimes when it gets busy, Jake will help out in the kitchen; he usually has your table's entire order ready to go before you've actually sat down. Jake can do these things because he can manipulate time and space like Muhammad Ali manipulates people's faces. Jake's real name is Mike, we just call him Jake because we thought his name was Jake for the first 5 years we were coming here and he seems cool with it. I wish I could give Royal Garden like, 40 stars. I bet Jake could, I'll ask him about it next time I go there. read more

We recently moved to Pembroke from Quincy where we had great Chinese at Cathay Pacific and needed a more local Chinese fix We tried several. OK, the Royal Garden is it. The chicken wonton soup is deeeelish... and a meal in itself. I brought home what I couldn't eat and added chicken broth to increase the amount. There are soooo.... many items in this soup you can't believe. i can tell you the Veggie lo mein and veggie fried rice is exceptional and well I just had to eat all of the Rangoon by myself. It is to die for; not greasy at all. In fact none of their items are greasy. I would have given it 5 stars but Cathay Pacific is a bit better. It is not worth driving to Quincy for the difference. Service is impecible. The interior is of good size and Chinese decor everywhere as you would expect and is a very clean restaurant. All the staff are very welcoming. An order of fried rice will feed 3 easily. The same with the lo mein. We have learned to share unless I like to take home left overs , which I do alot. Chinese left overs warm beutifully in the microvave. I highly recommend Royal Garden over "all" the other restaurants and we tried most of them until we got here where our search ended. By the way you are given the tea of course but at the end of each meal you get a nice size complimentary bowl of excellent pineapple. A great way to end off the meal. read more
