Mixed feelings.... the food tasted good, the issue was there wasn't much of it. It's been a good minute since I've been to an Indian AYCE lunch buffet but the ones I've been to usually had a selection twice the size. Ambiance is non-existent, didn't feel like you were stepping into little India or anything, more like a basic dining room. My family loves goat curry (over lamb curry) and we were happy to see that it was one of the very few items to choose from....HOWEVER.... there was hardly an anyy meat in the container, it was 90% sauce and so we asked him to refill it. Each time he put in basically enough for 1 person, we asked about 4 times over the course of an hour so since there are 10 of us, most did not get any. I personally prefer butter chicken and it tasted pretty good here. There was another curry with chicken but didn't try it because I'm happy with my butter chicken. Buffet includes fresh made naan but only the plain kind, most other places included garlic naan. Not a deal breaker since it tasted amazing fresh out the oven but noteworthy if you're expecting garlic to be included. Tandoori chicken was decent, didn't bother with desserts. They didn't even have samosas, just some strange deep fried thing that resembled a finger. The guy running the front of house seemed a new, he didn't know about the yelp check in deal and he rarely checked on us for water etc. My family were already a little mad at him with the goat curry situation, maybe it wasn't his call but you know, we need to blame somebody lol. It had the potential to get 5 stars from me, I don't need a big selection since I'm happy as long as my favorites are present, plus your eyes are bigger than your stomach. But since I'm reviewing in behalf of our entire party it loses a star due to the goat situation. Here's my reason why it lost the 4th star also..... they charge for babies/toddlers! Anybody under 8 pays 50%, we had a 2yr old and a 3yr old that were basically content with rice and naan. I'm not sure if this common now but I don't recall a time when a restaurant charged for people this young. We were shopping at Home Goods yesterday. My wife was tortuously dragging me through every aisle assuring me she would be "just a few more minutes". Every married male knows the agony. If I didn't have my cell phone to occupy myself, I might have gone off the edge. :) After shopping, on the way to the car, I noticed the ROYAL INDIA sign. I checked it out on Yelp and found no reviews. I stepped into the restaurant to check if they were open and found that they had only been open for two days. "Oh, lucky me!", I said outloud. The lady behind the counter smiled. I was happy of course about discovering a new place to get some good Indian eats, but also stoked to stumble into a virgin restaurant that has yet to be Yelp-reviewed! I don't know the history of this spot, but CHAAT PARADISE was on the door as we entered. I'm guessing the place closed recently and ROYAL INDIA took over. I should've asked but the server was busy. So we ordered a couple things to go: BUTTER CHICKEN (4/5) - I'm almost ashamed to admit I like Butter Chicken. I feel like I'm way too sophisticated of an Indian food lover to have that be one of my favorite dishes, but it's true. :) It's that classic Indian dish that every American gushes over. I find that the people that tell you they LOVE Butter Chicken usually can't name another Indian dish - that's the only dish they know! Anyway - Butter Chicken is my go-to order when I'm trying out a new Indian place. ROYAL INDIA'S version was pretty good. It was rich and creamy but not overly so - flavors balanced, the acidic tang from the tomatoes just right. The chicken was cut in strips which is different - first time to see that. I prefer chunks of chicken, somehow that's more appetizing to me but that's not a deal breaker. I would order it again. ALOO GOBI (Potato and Cauliflower) (3/5) My wife (who is from India) ordered this and said it was ok. I tasted it and thought it was a bit watery and flavor-wise underwhelming. I wouldn't go back for this one. Pretty basic dish, hard to screw up I think but it's only their second day in business so let's give them some time to work things out. Usually we order a ton but today's mini order wasn't enough to get a solid impression of this place. But the Butter Chicken was good enough to get me thinking about going again to explore the other things on the menu. Their menu, by the way, is not huge - limited to the most popular basics. Inside decor and set-up is nothing fancy, just a few casual tables. Maybe they'll renovate in time. My husband and I decided to try this place out the other night. We called in an order, which went a little different than other phone orders. They asked us when we'd should pick up the food.. my husband asked "well how long will it take to make it, we live down the street?" They told us 20 mins after that. So we went to Safeway to grab some ice cream before heading to the restaurant for pick up. On the way they called him, he didn't answer because we were in the same parking lot. When he walked in and said he was there for a pick up the lady working said "I just called you". My husband was like, "we'll I'm here...". Wasn't the best interaction. I had some basmati rice with their lamb and malais sauce. Lamb was cooked perfectly and the sauce was very tasty.

Food was flavorful and tasted fresh, service was good and quick, very helpful and nice enough. We ordered Tandoori chicken which was yummy, and chicken tikka masala, which was delicious. We were charged 50% adult price for our 2 year old who barely ate half a naan at the lunch buffet because anyone under 8 years old is charged 50% of adult price. We have been to so many Indian buffets and I don't think I've ever seen anyone charge for 2 or 3 year olds. Also we were told don't use more than 2 or 3 plates per person. The restaurant has a small buffet of 15-17 dish options to try.. The buffet is $15.99 per person which naan bread is included. It's okay. Definitely not the worst Indian food I've had but very basic. I spent $25 for a small container a butter chicken, rice & a side of garlic naan. There was only 5 pieces of chicken in my butter chicken, which was so disappointing. The gravy was good but not at all spicy as I requested. I'm fairly certain they just packed up food from the buffet for me order. Lol. The rice was good. You get a big container of it. The naan was also okay. It was warm but kind of thin & crispy. Overall the food was okay but expensive for what you receive. Maybe eating in you get better portions? I don't know. I'm not impressed & I will not be back. My husband and I went here for lunch today. Surprised that it was a new restaurant under new ownership that had a buffet lunch. Vegetarian and non vegetarian positions available which I appreciated. Last restaurant was only vegetarian. Buffet was good. Goat and lamb options were a nice suprise. Curry chicken was very tasty and more importantly not dry which most indian buffets are not able to do but this restaurant did. Very nice people who were very attentive. Simple place with good food. This had to have been some of the worst Indian food I've ever had--I've even had frozen food that tasted better. The chicken korma was runny and flavorless, same goes for the tika masala. I've never had a more soupy curry--it was all liquid. the Tika Masala tasted like tomato soup. The korma the only thing I could taste was coriander and nutmeg, and that was before adding rice. The food was a disgrace to Indian cuisine. And to top it all off, they left out a roti. If you liked Chaat paradise and thought the change of ownership wouldn't affect the food quality, you'd be mistaken. First and foremost the food was delicious. Very authentic and tasty and it came out hot! I loved it. But, the dining in experience and service was severely lacking. We were greeted and asked to take a seat and were brought menus. We were told that they only had one of the few appetizers that were on the menu which was disappointing but we ordered our meals. Food was great. Drinks were $5.00 for a can soda. Once done we asked for to-go containers and we were given dirty containers that has something dried up on the container and lid. They apologized and gave me new ones along with the check. Then we waited almost 20 minutes for someone to come out of the back of the restaurant to flag down for the check (there was only one other table there). No one. We had to ring the bell for someone to come out to ring us out. We asked for a receipt they said their machine was broken and we could take a picture of the computer screen. Food was nice but very disappointed in the portions! We make Indian food at home and the flavors were great. The sauces were a bit thin but for the price you pay you don't get any meat, less than 2 ounces. We had Chicken Tikka Masala and there were 6 bite size (1/2" x 1/2") pieces and in the Lamb Hydrabadi we only got 4 bite size pieces which were chewy!!! On top of that the Lamb was very salty and both sauces were runny. The Mutter Paneer was nice and there was plenty paneer. The Garlic Naan and Onion Kulcha were awesome, and the rice was tasty and aromatic (prices on these items was good). So, all in the food tasted nice, but for $70 (with tip) I think it was way too expensive for 4 ounces of meat.
