We ordered take out here yesterday. We got orange chicken, garlic prawns, and pork fried rice. We were pretty disappointed overall. The rice was good but the orange chicken and the prawns had really watery sauce that didn't cling to the food. The chicken was soggy and chewy. Not crispy at all. Should be a negative star. Food has been hit and miss several times. I previously talked to the manager about too many bad meals. She said come back and we will try again. Sometimes the cooks have an off night. Well last evening we tried again and the food was horrible almost made us throw up. This was about 5 PM. I cannot hear on the phone, nor can I understand them on the phone, so I took the uneaten food back to them today around 11:10 AM today. They said too bad you did not come back last night - well I was busy and could not come back last night. They refused to refund me the money and said too bad nothing we can do. So, if you want to waste your money then eat here but fair warning the meat taste weird and the seasoning is terrible. Never again will we eat there. We try to support our local businesses but when they have this kind of attitude about the bad food they produced and sold only to say too bad too sad.... I don't think the community should support them. Update after I posted the review above -The Manager and server (employee) tried to change the narrative of what happened when I returned to the restaurant first thing the next morning to ask for a refund that the manager promised me if I tried the food again. First no one was in the restaurant (No surprise here) The employee whom I believe is called Leeann was screaming at me the whole time with her manager on speaker phone whole time. Yelling nothing she can do... I opened the container to show we did not even eat this food after 1 bite, and she is yelling nothing I can do. I then tossed the uneaten food on the floor toward the table. They have our $ 37.73 and the food. While unbecoming behavior from me, the manager tried to say why keep coming to this restaurant if the food is no good - again after 2 phone calls to this Manager who ASKED us to try again - if I did not like she would refund me - Then tries to put all kinds of parameters/hurdles up to get the refund she promised me if I tried again? This is where it gets interesting. They called the sheriff and claimed I threw the food at Leeann - Which I did not, so this was a total fabrication and probably the only way the sheriff would come out. Ask to see their pictures. The food is clearly away from their little cashier area on the floor towards the table to your left, and they also told the sheriff I threatened them - again I did no such thing. I was in there less than 5 minutes and actually other than asking for the refund and explaining I previously spoke to the manager, I said very little, the mailman walked in right at the end as I left. I wasn't going to scream or argue over almost $40 and my statement was the food on the floor. The server had no food on her because it was never even dumped in her direction. So not only can they NOT cook Chinese food, but they also cannot tell the truth about the incident, extraordinary poor customer service and wasted the sheriffs time on serving me with a no trespass to not come to their restaurant again. Completely unnecessary as I would never return there any way. I am updating this review as full disclosure and clarity, even though throwing the food on the floor wasn't the best behavior from me and frankly the first time in my life I ever did such a thing, the restaurant tried to add to my post with a false narrative. Eat there at your own risk. Not sure how long they can stay in business with their food and customer service but honestly don't care. The only thing I am sorry about is they wasted the sheriff's time (I do want to Thank the Sheriff, they were actually very nice about everything). Another poor business decision on their part. They had $37.73 of our money to clean up the food on the floor which would have taken less time than calling the sheriff. They failed to get the message not to treat their paying customers this way. This time, I was in the neighborhood, so I decided to stop in and have lunch in the restaurant itself. It's a nice space, very clean, but I was not overwhelmed with the food. The service was good, and fast. I ordered the oyster sauce chicken from the lunch menu. It came with a small cup of egg drop soup. The soup was very good, but it had a little pieces of tomatoes in it, and the tomatoes tasted like they had been boiled. Not very appetizing at all. The chicken was as I like to say, "extremely just OK." . It tasted good with the oyster sauce, but the chicken was a little tough, and there was way too many onions on the plate. Not only that, but the onions we're not cooked all the way, they were very crunchy and the onions themselves didn't taste very good. You've gotta cook them all the way through! The chow mein that came on the side was just your average Chinese restaurant chow mein. Nothing spectacular. I probably won't order from here again. There was a maggot in our take away food. We brought the food that we hadn't eaten back at their request to show her that it was a maggot and she said oh that's from the broccoli. They did refund the price of our meal which we appreciate. The experience was really great overall, I cannot suggest this local business any more than I am now. The interior was very formal yet inviting, and our waitress was incredibly nice, very patient and cheerful. But the food of course was even more delightfully. The Prawn with Snow Peas with Pork Fried Rice was well cooked; the oil used really gave the dish a nice zest to it. And for my mother, the Pork with Bean Sprout Lunch went really with the Wa-Me Chow Mein; the noodles were nice and chewy, and the pork was delicious with the sprouts. Growing up in the 1980s in Orangevale our family had Wa-Me Chinese take out regularly and it was good Chinese food. I moved away from the area and had not been to Wa-Me in over 20 years. The online reviews I read mentioned great food made by the same family for decades. So I placed a take out order. When I arrived to pick it up, I noticed a sign by the cash register stating no refunds which I thought was strange. But once I got my food I understood exactly how this sign came to be because every dish we ordered was nasty and all I wanted was a refund. Nothing about my recent experience reminded me of all the great experiences growing up on Wa-Me Chinese food. Thankfully there's way better Chinese food in Orangevale from a newer restaurant on Greenback near the United States post office. read more

They were great for along time.. all of a sudden .. the food quality has really taken a dip.. the chicken is low quality and dry.. the pork is ridiculous: chewy and fatty.. if they don't up their quality fast I predict they won't make it. I couldn't even eat half of it as it was crap. They put this batter on everything that does not need to be there. I bet the new buffet on Sunrise is the cause of their dip in food quality! I drive by this place all the time and finally decided to make this my next date night. We ordered the potstickers with Wa-me fried rice and house special chicken to share and we were both stuffed. These dishes pair very well together for a great meal. Our waitress was very polite and very in top refilling our drinks and making sure we had everything we needed. I was 6 yrs old the first time I had Wa-Me. When there was only Chinese food. Fast forward 40 yrs later finding me living part time in Orangevale-- I wanted Wa-Me. Oh I went to town and ordered a few things! This was the 1st place I ever had mushi pork and it was still awesome. That's rare to have that same sensation years later. The egg foo young portion was huge, but the flavor was lacking and not enough gravy for 4 patties. I suggest the gravy in a to-go container. The chow fun lacked the fun aka noodles. That was a disappointment, but the beef was tender. Please add a noodle ratio. The hot and sour soup was stellar. All prices are very reasonable. I just moved to the area a bit ago After a day of rafting down the American River my friend wanted to get food and we found Wa-me. We got there not to close to closing time, yet closed the place out. There was about 3 of us in the party so we elected to share everything. My friend has the ability to be difficult and i am sure that the staff was not happy with us- however, in his defense they did fail to bring us napkins. The food was incredible- family owned and operated and the recipe is amazing. The best part of the food is you do not feel guilty afterwards and bloated; I am told they do not use MSG and if that is so I can confirm that based on my lack of bloating that is true.
