Came here with my family after having an amazing lunch at Chan Chan's next door. This is our top fave chocolate so since we were in the area on our way to San Diego for the weekend, we decided to drop in to get a box. We were welcomed by the 2 very friendly ladies and were given samples of the Strawberry Nama chocolates. We've never had this flavor before cuz our usual go to is Ghana bitter (non-alcohol and alcohol) and Au Lait. The strawberry flavor was soooo good so we had to have a box as well. The ladies were so professional and sweet that we ended up getting THREE boxes instead of one as planned! Sooo worth every penny! Godiva chocolates go for about the same price or more but these are incomparable! As we were leaving after paying , they also handed us one wafer each! Those were so buttery and delicious! It is not too sweet, but a perfect balance of flavors in the items I have tried. I LOVE the Royce Bar Chocolate Nut. It is individually wrapped and tastes amazing. The item has Almond, Pecans, Cashews, Macadamia, Nutty Puffs and Praline in a small chocolate bar. It is soo good! Located inside Mitsuwa market, ROYCE offers a wide variety of sweet confections and unique gift boxes. They're apparently best known for their Nama chocolates, but I've actually only tried their wafers and cookies. We liked the strawberry and matcha wafers the best, as they were both light and not too sweet. They also came individually wrapped for convenience and in a nice box for gifting. These chocolates are like little chocolate mousse rectangles. They're soft yet a little firm like nearly frozen mousse. I've never had anything like these before. Also, the quality is superb. I hate Hersheys and American (even popular German chocolates) sweets because they're equivalent to eating sugar, but somehow worse. It's way too sweet and in a really bad way. These chocolates are very sweet, but in a different way because the ingredients used are much better. It's much more cocoa present and complex. Also, I am NOT lactose by any means, BUT you HAVE to keep these refrigerated or else you will die of stomach pain like I did! Totally my bad, but I want to save you from suffering. She shared her favorite types with us and it was a pleasant experience - she seemed passionate about the brand. I purchased their solid chocolate bars for regular consumption and they are great. Their chocolate is pricey but I feel like it's something you enjoy slowly, versus trying to consume in one sitting. I'm not a chocolate person, but when my coworker gave me a piece of her Royce champagne flavor chocolate, I was hooked and I knew I had to get a box for myself. Their chocolate is sooo smooth and creamy and isn't tooo sweet where it will make you feel sick. They put the chocolate box in a cooling bag (I think it can keep it cool for 2 hours?) but you should put it in the fridge once you reach your destination. If you're a chocolate lover like me, you'll need to try Royce'. They're only located in Mitsuwa. You may miss them depending on what entrance you use. If you're using the back entrance (closer to BP), they're the first stall you'll see on the right as you walk in. I'll be honest, I've gone to Mitsuwa hundreds of times and always passed by this place not knowing what they sold. I thought it was mochi at first. Finally discovered they sell premium chocolate from Japan that is pre-packaged. It can be an expensive addiction though as each box is roughly $20. It's the perfect splurge/treat and I usually get a box or two each time I'm at Mitsuwa now. Try it and you'll see why or taste why you're paying $20 for that one box. The chocolate is softer, more of a truffle/fudge consistency (not like bar chocolate although they do have those too). The boxes have squares of chocolate and you'll get a little tool to wedge each piece out. Saddest part is when you finish that last square! Hence why I get two boxes sometimes, so that disappointment doesn't last long (I just open up the other box). These do need to be refrigerated so keep that in mind if you're purchasing a box and are not heading home right away. They do place it into a packaging that will help to keep it temperature controlled until you do get home (but still don't leave these out in the car if it's hot out). My go to's here are the Nama Chocolate Au Lait and Nama Bitter. Some of these do contain some alcohol but you can also opt for the alcohol free one. read more

Just matcha? NAH! They also got seasonal flavors that will blow your mind. CORN CHOCOLATE; I literally bought two boxes because it was so dang yummy. It's only hints of corn, but man... I think I need to snag more of it before it's all gone or before the season ends (whichever comes first). Their other seasonal flavors, hojicha and chestnut were also great... but corn really takes the cake. On the fence about what chocolate to purchase? Been coming here since they opened because my next option would be to go to LA which I refuse to do. Royce' is the best chocolate I've ever had with no foreseeable second place competition. Chocolate to me is not something for eating. It's a tasting item and it's meant to be taken as a solitary piece with the mindset that you won't get a second serving, so try to savor all the subtleties and don't rush the development and don't compromise the texture too soon. Royce' is rich, pure, and clean. I've tried the milk, dark, white, green tea, and strawberry. The last three don't really count because, well, they're not really chocolate. The milk is like a warm blanket on a perfectly temperate afternoon. It soothes but has enough presence to make you take notice before it melts away. Texture is perfect and as it starts coming to temperature on your tongue, you'll start to notice the purity of the chocolate make itself more known. The dark is like jazz music in a dimly lit room. It's there without a doubt and its complexities are made known right away, but if you give it time, you'll start to hear more and feel more through the darkness. I know these descriptions are ridiculous to most people, but I find Royce' quality to be further reaching than just taste, like music is more than just sound. I've easily spent over a thousand dollars here over the short period they've been open and I have yet to be disappointed by the quality that's available. Several people have received gifts from this counter and they all come back to me with eyes wide open asking where they can order these chocolates from. Not cheap but not expensive and you'll only need one piece to feel satisfied so one box will go a long way. That I believe is a clear indication of the quality you'll find in Royce'. read more

Seriously the best chocolate ever. They never leave your mouth with a bad left over taste like cheap chocolate and its just sooo smooth. They melt in your mouth like thick velvety texture. I first tried Royce' chocolate when a coworker brought back a small box from his trip to Japan. I'm not really a chocolate fanatic whatsoever but the exquisite silky texture and refined flavors really struck me. I immediately looked it up online to see where I could buy it and it turned out that it was only available at that time at high end Royce boutiques in Asia and a new store on Madison Avenue in NYC. That was a couple of years ago but that small taste literally stayed with me since then. When a friend recently travelled through Tokyo, I was delighted that he was able to pick up a box of the "Maccha" Green Tea flavor for me. It was just as exquisite as I had remembered. Tonight, we were eating at Spicy City Chinese Restaurant in Irvine and I did a double take when I saw that the girl at the next table had a Royce' shopping bag. I was compelled to approach her and inquire where she got it. She didn't speak English well but indicated that it was from the Mitsuwa Japanese supermarket in the plaza! We hustled over and found that the small Royce' boutique inside the Mitsuwa had just opened in November. Tonight, we got the "Champagne" Chocolate. You'll just have to experience this luxurious treat for yourself. Be forewarned that this is not inexpensive chocolate. Each 4.4 oz box contains 16 small rectangular pieces and runs for $18. Royce chocolate, melts in your mouth AND in your hands haha. The chocolate needs to be refrigerated because it's like a truffle chocolate. They have different grades of chocolate from milk chocolate to dark chocolate, and eat box comes with a little spoon to help you eat it. I've also tried their chocolate potato chips, which I thought was alright. During Christmas time they have seasonal specials like strawberry champagne chocolate and whiskey chocolate. I didn't get to try either flavors but I did purchase it as a gift for several people. I heard the seasonal flavors are pretty good. I did try the galette cookies with strawberry inside and that was yummy. It even came in a cute Christmas tin, but it was pricey for what you get. The nama chocolate is melt-in-your-mouth and luxurious. Each piece was so good it was almost like a spiritual experience. I got my bf a box of these for Valentine's Day and he thought they were epic...and finished half the box in just a couple of hours. I tried a few samples too and each piece is really just something you wanna relive over and over again *_* Royce puts all other chocolatiers to shame. The chocolate is rich, dense, and silky smooth. The original nama chocolate is definitely the best, and the champagne one is similar. Green tea was delicious too with the perfect amount of bitterness from the green tea and a white chocolate base. At $18 a box, it seems pricey but it does come with 20 decently-sized pieces and with authentic Japanese chocolates, you know you're getting damn quality ingredients. Getting it in gift bag is complimentary and each purchase includes an ice pack to keep your chocolate cool until you go home and stick it in your fridge.
