    Coeur chocolat framboise
    Hannah N.

Finally tried this place! I was told this location at the OC Mix is smaller than their other two locations. There was one table inside only, but you can sit outside since it's really nice at the OC Mix. They have a delicious chicken pesto sandwich, and I also loved the coeur chocolat framboise. I actually got the second to last one, and by the time I left, they ran out. The strawberry jam crepe was also yummy too. Nice workers here, and they have a variety of French imported goods. The display case of pastries is so tempting!

Beautiful cakes and pastries. This is a smaller store than their siblings. But it has all the goods. Plenty of parking around the shopping complex. Just for to go but there are seatings outdoor in the courtyard. Great vibe with great service in a beautiful, bright, clean and well organized shop. They closed early so...prices can be on the high ends but worth it.

This Moulin location is actually a very special & unique one, at the SoCo & The OC Mix complex in Costa Mesa, because this is where the dedicated bakers come in while most others in California are fast asleep (or maybe wishing they were) and create all of the pastries and cakes from scratch for early morning deliveries to all of the Moulin locations (in coastal South Orange County). As a result, most likely, the kitchen staff go home earlier than most or all of the cafe business hours and therefore this location doesn't make anything to order that is usually on the menu at other Moulin cafe locations, except for their super authentic & awesome crêpes, but they do have pre-made sandwiches, salads, and, of course, a nice selection of pastries and cakes, along with a fascinating array of cool drinks imported straight from France... the really neat thing also is that both of the staff members that were present today, a younger gentleman and a slightly older lady, were so exceptionally eager to tailor the best customer experience possible by being down-to-earth, friendly, intelligent, happy to go the extra mile(s), and of a very cultivated level of professionalism. The people at Moulin are so amazing & exemplify incredible teamwork!! The patio tables outside with the awesome red umbrellas specifically for Moulin customers are utterly picturesque and kind of transport customers to Paris at the same time... a really great way to recharge and enjoy seriously gourmet foods, with options for nutrition-seekers as well as epicures, made fresh to the highest standards of quality and cleanliness. Today, I enjoyed a La Mûre ("the blackberry") cake which dazzled all of my senses except the sense of sound (but this is debatable), and tasted absolutely divine in its delicate complexity and harmony of textures, colors, shapes, and tastes. I also reveled in a Crêpe Strawberry Jam, made to order by the talented younger gentleman, and noted the very delicate natural taste of the crêpe that was cooked to what I'd consider perfection, along with the authentic strawberry preserves jam (imported from France) that when combined, gives a really compelling taste of France - and Moulin makes the best crêpes I've ever eaten anywhere!! I love being a Moulin customer with my heart, mind, and soul and am very grateful to the people that keep what could very well be an impressive and respectable dream, an actual reality that inspires people with its art of visionary leadership and the granularity of commitment to creating Parisian-like atmospheres outside of France to just about every detail imaginable and attainable. The Moulin team is all about magic!!

Genuine French baker making delicate and flakey traditional and innovative pastries. The wonderful variety is executed picture-perfect with full, rich flavors that are not overly sweet like some bakeries.

I discovered this place while driving around in Costa Mesa. This was my second visit. Since it was a short visit, I will definitely come back to try the ready-made items to go, where you can select sandwiches, salad, hot food items, pastries, desserts, bread, fruits, drinks, and etc. They also sell other items like household items, wine, jams, teas, etc. No matter which day you go, this place is always packed. They have several locations in OC. The dining area is small inside, but plenty of table outside. There is a beautiful water fountain outside. The parking is a little tricky as you will have to go around few times before you can find a spot. Ordered: Flan Chocolate - It was different texture and taste than the traditional flan. It goes nice with the hot tea. Pain Au Chocolat - I love anything with chocolate inside the croissant. Past Items Ordered: Fresh squeezed OJ, Apple Tart, Mille-Feuille (puff pastry with cream) - All the items are shareable and delicious.

    Quiche Lorraine

Every time we come here, it never disappoints! Absolutely delectable desserts that are as stunning and gorgeous as they are tasty to eat. We so enjoy the fruity black iced tea and this time around we tried the Quiche Lorraine. Oh My! Such a generous slice and so light and creamy! We had the rest for brunch the next day. It came with mixed greens and a house vinaigrette. It is so nice to have such a quality cafe. The lemon tarts were excellent, nice and perfectly tart and beautiful.

I would not recommend if you are not taking it out. 1. There is no microwave to heat the food up. 2. By the time I ordered my food and went to sit down, the food was cold. I couldn't eat the food. The pasta was cold, the potatoes were cold, the brisket was cold... vegetables was cold. Sitting area outside was so cold and windy... everything kept flying away( like the tissues) It's was just chaotic. I walked up to the register , I explained my ordeal and requested to heat up my food but they said they do not. A representative (maybe the manager) came to me and offered me food on the house, this made me feel better , because I already trashed my food. One thing I did like from here tho is the orange juice and latte. It is Fresh & Nice

I was excited to give Moulin a try since I've heard many good things. Upon entering the store, I was looking for the hot food menu but was told only the Newport Beach location has that. I was bummed since I saw posts on this page that showed the hot food section. That aside, the workers were very friendly and attentive. I tried some pastries and they were good. Location is great inside the OC mix. Plenty of parking and great shops all around.

    Chocolate almond croissant
    Jeremy T.

Moulin is outdoor seating only, but the mall is very nice and you sit by the fountain. They have a good variety of pastry, coffee, and food options. It all looks very nice and tasty. The chocolate almond croissant I got was not as flaky as I was hoping and was on the sweeter side. The apple turnover was also okay, but not that flaky. Maybe they would both taste better toasted. The fruit tart was probably the best out of the three things we got. Iced mocha was also refreshing, but pretty standard.

    Apricot pastry and chocolate mocha
    monique e.

Nice assortment of breakfast pastries. I got a yummy little apricot pastry and chocolate mocha with a small chocolate square to go with it. $8 for both Shop is small with only one table inside which was occupied by employees. Plenty of tables outside but too cold for a chilly morning. Took it across the way to an open table area.

The decor was very cute with a more classical Parisian Blue and gold accents mixed with an eclectic mix of art from American musical icons. We started with chamoagne by the glass. It was the perfect balance if sweet and dry. Croque Madame. It was perfectly crisp on the outside. The saltiness of the ham and the creaminess of the cheese were very balanced. The bernaise sauce on the side was the best part to a really delicious dish. -highly recommend The pear endive salad was good. We added the chicken because we were not having a lot of other protein for lunch, but I feel it altered the ratio of dressing to salad. I don't typically like a lot of dressing, but something slightly more acidic would have balanced out all of the rich food we were having. The greens and fruit were delicious and fresh. I would try it again, without the chicken. -recommend if you are in the mood. The french Onion Soup was delicious. It does take awhile, likely because they are making it fresh, so factor that in for time. The taste transported me to Paris, 30 years ago. Such a classic recipie. -strongly recommend. Creme brulee - we were stuffed. We didn't finish our soups, the salad, or the Croque Madame.... so that could have factored into my impression on the creme brulee. It was good and very classic. It was what you think of when you think of a very traditional creme brulee. I wanted it to be exceptional, but it was good. The espresso paired perfectly. - recommend for Creme Brulee lovers. My friend ordered the rice pudding abd she lived it. She said the pistachios were sich a lovely touch. I would definitely return and order the Croque Madame!

My Ayres Hotel review here - https://www.yelp.com/biz/ayres-hotel-costa-mesa-newport-beach-costa-mesa-3?hrid=bqcNd3OtrAPXUNGJOnPd2A There was a small wait to check-in when I stopped by later on a Monday evening. The host greeted me and asked whether I wanted to dine inside or in their open-air courtyard. I mentioned that it was a bit chilly, so wanted something inside. He thoughtfully seated me in the corner (for privacy), but also tucked inside away from any of the doors to avoid catching the cold breeze from outside. They have a large interior dining room, the courtyard outside, as well as a bar. Plenty of space to host large groups or intimate dinners. The decor is tasteful/European finishes, after the theme of the hotel. Miguel was my waiter for the evening, and after confirming I was dining solo, he removed the extra place settings - a nice touch. Their menu offers sandwiches, burgers, a few fish and pasta entrees. I was curious about their famous Monte Cristo sandwich - supposedly the best in Orange County - the only other place I've tried a Monte Cristo was at Disneyland. Miguel confirmed that people do order it for dinner (I thought it was more of a Breakfast/Brunch item) - so I ordered that and a fountain drink. The food came out promptly. While the sandwich looked good - I dived right into the meaty fries. SOOO GOOD. It was literally the best tasting fries I've had in awhile. Crispy on the outside, thick and meat on the inside. It tasted great with and without ketchup. Probably finished half of it when I realized I should check out the Monte Cristo before it got cold. The Monte Cristo sandwich here is made by deep frying two sandwich breads into egg batter, with ham, turkey, and swiss cheese. It's served with a side of raspberry chambord jelly. It's a mixture of savory and sweet - especially if you dip the sandwich in the jelly before each bite. The cheese was perfectly melted, so it further took each bite to the next level. Seriously - Le Chateau's Monte Cristo beats Disneyland's by far (and it doesn't require theme park admission either!) I did dock a star off because I didn't see Miguel after he dropped off my order until he brought the check. Would've been a perfect experience if he had checked in on me at least once after serving the food - as I know he did check in on other tables around me. Overall, a great experience! There is definitely other fare here, but I think their unique menu item is definitely the Monte Cristo. I believe parking is either free or validated for restaurant guests. Check before you park though, since I know hotel guests have to pay to park, so wouldn't be surprised if diners have a different process as well.

The space feels intimate because it's on the smaller side, and they thoughtfully stagger reservations so the dining room never feels overcrowded. You can be seated in the main dining room, on the outdoor patio, or on the indoor patio next to the penthouse shops. I come here at least once a year for my birthday because the staff are genuinely warm and make every guest feel special. They clearly care deeply about hospitality and creating a true culinary experience. Honestly, the entire team is top-notch, but on our most recent visit, Kara took especially great care of us. She remembered our preferences, made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed without needing to ask, and made my birthday feel special while also giving my husband and me space (I dislike when wait staff at smaller restaurants hover - they don't do that at all). The way the staff serves, takes orders, clears, etc. is like a really well-rehearsed dance - they want everything to be paced, smooth, and efficient (without feeling forced or robotic) and it really makes a difference. The food is delicious and beautifully presented, with thoughtful attention put into every detail of the flavor profile and color palette. They NEVER miss. I love how they refresh the menu a few times during the year to showcase seasonal ingredients while still staying true to the restaurant's overall identity. They also have a selection of dining experiences - I always go for the 3 course prefix during lunch and the portion sizes and timing of each course is perfect. Also highly recommend their afternoon tea on Saturdays. Couldn't find a more luxurious afternoon tea experience in OC! I genuinely hope they continue to do well! Apple (vanilla panna cotta, tatin, earl grey crumble, granny smith: compressed & gelee, green apple sorbet): You gotta come here for dessert. This was phenomenal. The earl grey crumble was delicious and plays well with the sweet tartness of the granny smiths. I'd say the component that felt out of place was the compressed pieces; they tasted like an fresh apple version of tandra which was too sweet and the layers meshed together. Main diver scallops (cauliflower, romanesco, capers, lemon confit, crostini): The scallops were so juicy and perfectly seared on the top. The cauliflowers were good but lackluster. The server told me there's cauliflower puree on the bottom which was yummy. Lemon confit who? There was an essence of lemon but nothing very present. Crostini was essentially like mini plain croutons. Wild Alaskan halibut (braised & fermented fennel, castelvetrano olives, preserved lemon): Only tried a bite of the fish and fennel. The fish was very nicely cooked and the crust on top was delightful. The fennel was sour due to fermentation but I didn't particularly enjoy it.

The lady who helped me - dark hair, really overly colorful eye makeup, and tattoos - processed the transaction but handed me the card without a receipt. When I asked for one, she spent a moment at the screen and then told me she couldn't print it because she had already closed out my tab. I was confused why 1) she didn't give me a receipt in the first place, then 2) she decided that was the only solution - to tell me it could not be done. After I asked her to find a solution as I needed a copy of the receipt, she finally asked her colleague beside her, who pointed her to the right place, and, voila, the receipt was printed. Leading with "I can't" is never the right customer service instinct, especially for something as basic as a receipt. I also tried to buy the butter they import from France. I stood at the case for several minutes with no acknowledgment. I finally walked over to the nearest employee (her name was Lucy) who was finishing up with a customer at the register right next to the butter section. I politely asked if she could help me when she was free. She looked at me, nodded, and said she would. Then proceeded to assist every customer who lined up behind that original customer without once glancing back in my direction. In fact, I had enough time to walk to the bakery, go through the entire gift card situation as mentioned above, and return to the butter section, and Lucy still hadn't looked over. I left without the butter. Moulin used to have fantastic service. I don't know where those regulars went, but two strikes in one visit, with two different employees, is hard to brush off.

Our waiter was somewhat attentive but not nice - the poor guy seemed miserable like he hated his job and did not want to be there. Despite the restaurant being full, he wouldn't come by often when we actually needed something - he even disappeared towards the end and a new waiter had to help us. Food is delicious. Besides the location, their saving grace. We tried the sandwiches and yummy! Fries were also delicious with the spicy mayo. Love the different options they have, overall. They also had some great looking food on the brunch and drinks section of the menu. You can scan the QR code at the table to see pictures of each menu item. Overall was good and we'll be back every once in a while because we love Lido. Will try sitting inside in hopes the tables are decent. Really hope management makes some improvements though!

However, today's service was so bad to the point that I been waving my hands and making eye contact to order for 15-20 minutes. And they were actually ignore us. Maybe we didn't dress decent enough for them to serve us since we were in our regular jean and tshirt. So I have to actually speak up and call them to order. So when we get to order, it was 10:20pm already. After the foods are brought out, we had a decent dinner together and they are about to close. So one of the server brought out the check for us to pay and we decided to pay with exact amount with cash and leave tip in cash also. One of the server genuinely SMIRKED at us while counting the money. Like he looked at us and SMIRKED. He probably has a bad day or a busy day but still, it's a Tuesday. So instead of a nice dinner and a good nap, we had a really bad close of the day because of service at Zinque. So if you want food at night, you can come to Zinque but don't expect too much for the services recently, since it was SO MUCH BETTER back then until today.

Our server was very warm and helpful. For two of us we ordered one heavier dish and 3 on the lighter side and I actually left pretty stuffed. The menu is always evolving so I'd love to return, but for this visit we started with the bread and ham butter. The bread was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, and the ham butter imparted so much flavor. My favorite item that we ordered was the Galician Octopus. The thin slices were perfectly executed and the flavors underneath packed a punch. I would pass on the Gambas al Ajillo. While the shrimp were large, I found myself wishing that they had some char. The Summer Squash Salad was a perfect complement to the other dishes. I found the squash ribbons to be unique, the dressing to be light and fresh, and the inclusion of small bits of cheese to impart just the right amount of saltiness to the dish. Because we were celebrating my birthday, they gave us a complimentary slice of the basque cheesecake with a candle in it. Typically I'm not a big fan of this type of cheesecake, but theirs was wonderful and we ate the whole thing. I'm always appreciative when a restaurant does a little something extra for a special occasion. Extra props to our server because she noticed the gift that my friend brought for me and took it upon herself to inquire about the occasion and bring the dessert. It's those little touches that mean a lot.

Fat of the Land was such a nice treat…read more I went here with two other people to celebrate a birthday dinner. Making reservations is recommended since the restaurant is small but making it wasn't too difficult. We were impressed by how cute it was. It had a dark European vibe which we loved. It's definitely intimate and great for small groups, not so much larger ones. We brought in our own wine to enjoy with a corkage free. We got seated right away and our nice waiter gave us great recommendations and answered our many questions. We ended up ordering a lot between all three of us but that's just how we roll. We started with their bread & ham butter, pork pate, and burrata. The pork pate didn't come with bread so we were glad our waiter recommended it. The pate was really good and was different. It was on the dense side but still spreadable and full of flavor. The burrata had peaches, cherries and pinenuts. It was different but in a good way and we also ate that with the bread. It was more bland and nice with the pate. For dinner we got their steak tartare, mushrooms, chicken, and pork. The steak tartare was on the saltier side which I didn't mind. It was actually a large portion and sat on some toast. The mushrooms were a hit. They were braised with an onsen egg on top to mix. The pork was exceptional. It was flavorful, tender, and cooked to perfection. I highly recommend it for protein. My least favorite dish was the chicken, which was actually super tender and cooked just right. I just didn't like the sauce taste and I am not a fan of beans. We ended the night with some basque cheesecake which was not too sweet and delicious. What an incredible meal. The pricing we thought was good for the quality and what you get. Some of the portions were smaller but good for us. The pork did have a 40 minute wait to make which our waiter told us. Service was amazing and the food came out as it was made. The restaurant is small so reservations is recommended. They have limited parking and there is also street parking around.
