Roy's was amazing when our furnace bit the dust. They were able to get out same day and diagnose the problem and had a team out (on a holiday during a snowstorm no less) to come out and install the new unit. All of the employees we have worked with throughout the process have been extremely pleasant and respectful of our home. Had Roys install new furnace AC and H/W tank. They stated that there was a national fuel rebate so I assumed they would complete the form and send it in for me, as other HVAC companies have done in the past for me. They did not, nor did they say anything until I reached out to find out the status, only to find out that the application period for the rebate on my project has expired and I'm not out whatever that rebate would have been. Roy's installed our new furnace Less than a year ago. Yesterday it stopped working. I called Roy's and told them I have a 95 year old and I am trying to keep him warm, they said a dispatcher would be contacting me within the hour. This was at 8pm. At 10pm I called back cause I hadn't heard from them they said "so sorry a dispatcher will be contacting you because they had an open window of time between 12am-2am". 2am and still nothing. I called back and they said they same thing that a dispatcher would be reaching out. 4:30am rolls around and called for a 4th time and reiterated that I have a 95 year old grandpa it's 11degrees outside and a few space heaters isn't cutting it and they couldn't care less and gave me the same "a dispatcher will be reaching out". I asked if I could skip that step because this is the 4 time I'm calling and he said no. So a whole night wasted with no sleep and we are still freezing. The only reason I was pushing for Roy's is because they installed the brand new unit LESS THAN 1 year ago. I would avoid them! read more

Do you ever get something done and think to yourself...... huummmm I think this was an incredible amount of money for this job. And I did a stupid thing ! Well in 2015 we researched tankless hot water heaters. The model that was recommended at the time as the best and most reliable , was only available through Roy's. That's why we got it from Roy's. My responsibility in this situation is there for a few reasons. Here's what happened. The heater started to need to be reset in order to make hot water. I was not aware of this issue for reasons that made it impossible for the past 8 years to properly pay a great deal of attention to the ordinary issues of life. So when my daughter mentioned this issue to me , I went and looked at the heater and it had a sticker on it and the date it was installed by Roy's. My first mistake was to simply call Roy's automatically and not check around for other companies. They however were available to come look at it the next day. When the gentleman arrived (he actually came early after calling to see if that was alright) he went and looked at it and immediately said that the five year warranty had expired last year. At that time, the last thing on my mind was the tankless hot water heater. The charge to come to the house was $150 and when he arrived after the information about the warranty, he said that the filter was filthy and that it needed to be de scaled. Here's my next mistake, ignoring that ringing in my head. When I asked how much a new filter was I was told it had only needed to be washed!!! So it was fine now. Next was the descaling .... I asked why it would be such an issue with descaling, given that we a have a whole house reverse osmosis system ?!?! No real answer ... but the process takes about 45 minutes and there were a couple of empty plastic quart containers. Immediately me de scaling my coffee pot came to mind .... When this was complete, I asked if there was a Veterens discount and they kindly didn't charge me for a $30 part that the ignition /flame comes through. Finally when I asked if there was any reason why I couldn't clean the filter myself, I was asked if I was handy. I told him I have a pretty unusual filter system on my furnace that I take care of (because that technician showed me how and I have been very loyal to that company ever since). The response was well you have to be really really really handy because there's a cover and screws. Well to make a long story long the bill was over $600.00. Yes you read that right. I admit I was not in my normal state of intelligence at that time so I do take my share of responsibility for not investigating other services, and not saying I'm sorry I'm going to see if I can get a better price. But I do think that is simply taking advantage on several levels. Although I appreciate them coming out the next day, we did buy the unit from them and it was not a bargain. I don't appreciate less than two hours work costing six hundred plus dollars for descaling and washing a filter. And I am certain he could easily have said" sure you can wash the filter yourself. I am a VN veteran, retired autoworker, and recent widower. I called Roy's because I joined their service club when I needed my sewer line cleared. I later needed my boiler checked because, from a previous service from another company, I was aware that it was about to fail due to deterioration. The sales rep came the same day as the first technician, who verified to me that the boiler needed to be replaced. He presented two recommended boilers priced at $16-17 thousand and said the Bosch was the better deal. When I balked at the high price he suggested a zero-interest, 48-month loan through Wells Fargo which he could arrange by calling his manager. The payments would be $300 per month. I signed the required documents on his phone and he even arranged the loan with WF on the phone. He arranged the installation for the next day as I requested. Let me first say I am very satisfied with the furnace and the excellent installation by the polite and professional technicians. However, I am left with buyer's remorse because of the high price and misleading sales presentation that led me to believe $14000 was a reasonable price to pay for a new boiler. I also was not presented with a detailed estimate but was given a price after a discount that did not detail the cost of the boiler, the cost of other materials, or the cost of installation. I did not receive detailed information about the boiler and after looking it up on the internet, found its wholesale cost to be about $5000. This was not listed on the invoice I received after installing; that only provided the initial price of $19000 before a rebate and a Vet discount. I regret rushing into this deal. I regret not having asked the vital questions I knew that should have been asked. I regret not getting at least two more estimates before committing to a contractor. I am disappointed the salesman was not upfront with me by avoiding the details of this deal because it would have probably caused me to delay while I thought about it. I hope that the management of Roy's will be honest and forthright with me about avoidance of all the facts, if not dissembling, in sales presentations. All people, especially old people on Social Security are vulnerable, and even naive at times, like myself. We deserve respect and honesty. I deserve a rebate of several thousand dollars. read more

I had discovered mold and a leak in my kitchen to which Jeff W Jr came out to not only help fix the leak, but put me in touch with a fantastic crew for mold removal. Jeff was quick, efficient, and explained everything to me, and was so kind and patient with me throughout the whole thing. I really appreciate not only the help but the holistic approach to making sure I was connected to the right resources to get the entire thing fixed, not just the plumbing piece. We've dealt with Roy's several times since buying our house 10 years ago. Love that they have a 24 hour number to call. We've always had prompt, excellent service and been treated respectfully by everyone who comes out. If you've ever had a service provider talk to you as if you're stupid you know how important that is. We recently had 3 inches of water in our basement. They came the next morning and diagnosed 3 different, related problems that created, contributed to, and were perpetuating the issue. Two hours later, the water was gone and all 3 problems were fixed. He gave us a business card to a basement cleanup company they refer to which helped us to move forward to further fix the mess that was created. I highly recommend them if you're in their service area. PS. We have some electrical issues to address and were happy to see they added that type of work to their services. Paid $165 for a service plan last year. This included plumbing inspection and the clearing of one drain. What a crock. The clearing of a bathroom sink drain by the Roy's guy (which is chronically backed up) was to use my own hand plunger on it. Something I need to do daily and have had to continue to do since he used my plunger. Needless to say the drain problem was not corrected, except by my own method. I am not a plumber but am in real estate. They are not on my list. read more

It was 16° and had snowed. I made my appointment but I called back and canceled and rescheduled within 15 minutes. Jessica the in-take attendant was pleasant and professional. Still, the price went from $99 to 179. Because the technician said he had gone home. That was 1 1/2 hours prior to my appointment. The technician was Jamie Tulumello. He took an additional two hours to get to my house after he said he was on his way. He lives no more than 15 minutes from me. Tulumello was very nasty from the first instant he stepped into my house. He never took his boots off, he was at my house to fix my furnace, the motor seized. I was concerned about frozen pipes. His response to my pipes freezing was , "Oh Well". His tone was continuously nasty, dismissive, and not concerned. At one point, he stood and gave me a long stare for no less than 30 seconds. I didn't take that as a positive stare. At that point, I had zero intention in doing business with Roys ever again. He just needed to leave. read more

Today I had Roys come in to give me a price to replace just a toilet flange on a concrete floor. They quoted me a price of $990! For a at minimum 2 hr.job. I called the office to confirm this after plumber left. The price was verified! Needless to say I did not go with the job. read more

So I had no heat . I couldn't get any of the people I usually use .So I call Roy's as they were available after hours. I thought great but that was a big mistake. They called me and said my furnace which was only 11 years old needed to be replaced at $4300. Here is their description" furnace is in complete disrepair , multiple holes in exhaust and motor is bad" He stated he didn't have the parts to repair it and the cost of repairs would exceed the cost of the unit. I found that kind of strange as the unit again is only 11 years old. I had to get another person to look at it after that. Luckily one of my regular guys became available later that night and had it up and running in 15 minutes. He said the pressure switch was dirty and needed to be cleaned and the motor worked fine . He made some temporary repairs to the exhaust until he could come back and replace it. By the reviews here Roy's does this quite often . They try to scam people into replacing instead of repairing. I don't know if the repair technicians get a commission on new installs or not but that would be my guess. I would suggest to stay far away from these guys as they tried to rip me off. I called and asked for a refund and she said she would have to get an ok to do that. I then realized they had not even charged me yet for the service call. I would hope they do not try to charge me for this. read more

Our AC wasn't blowing cold air. The guy from Roy's told us we needed to replace our AC unit ($5k). We got a second opinion from someone honest. All we needed was a Freon recharge. I'm leaving this review three years later -- the AC unit Roy's wanted us to replace is still working perfectly thanks to the Freon. Never calling them again. It sickens me to think who else this guy tried to take advantage of and was successful. It may be an incompetent employee and not the company. I don't know how Roy's incentivizes service people. But what kind of AC repair guy doesn't at least try Freon service first before recommending a complete replacement of the system? I would think one that has something to gain by being dishonest. read more

After making the move into my first home, I wanted to have the furnace looked at and tuned up to make sure everything was set for the Winter (whatever 2020 may bring...). Overall, I had a great experience with Roy's! I called and setup an appointment back in mid-October for furnace maintenance and the earliest they could get a technician was November 30th, so not the most convenient but perhaps a lesson in calling sooner. The customer service on the phone though was pleasant and easy to work with. I did place a reminder of my own into my Google Calendar as they did not take my email, though I received a reminder text about a day or two before the appointment itself detailing next steps. On the day of the appointment, I received a phone call from Roy's confirming the appointment and received another text message providing the name of the technician and the ability to see where he was enroute to my house. The technician, Jeff, was fantastic! He was incredibly friendly, courteous, and knowledgeable. He came in wearing a mask and put coverings over his shoes and went right to work inspecting the thermostat. Afterwards, I led him to the furnace and he was able to give me some details about it by just looking at it. I left him alone to do his work even though he invited me to stay and watch if I wanted. After about 45-50 minutes, I checked-in and he was just wrapping up. Happy to report that my furnace, albeit over a decade old, was in great shape! After packing up all his tools, Jeff went over all the details about what he saw and provided me the paperwork to get a rebate from National Fuel (which I filled out and mailed the same day!). Absolute fraud! Showed us a picture of our AC coils for 2 units looked horrible loaded with hair. These units are only 3 yrs old. Had them come to do a general summer tune up. He arrived promptly, with COVID appropriate masking and gloving. He was polite and personable. He encouraged questions. She had a clogged pipe in the basement and he used a plunger and didn't snake the entire pipe going out to the sewer. NO GUARANTEE. $202. Then she was talked into a membership $150. $500. We have used Roy's plumbing and heating for years. We had a service contract with them as well for annual service calls for plumbing, heating and cooling. Each time we had an inspection for cooling, heating or plumbing there was always something wrong with whatever they inspected and they said we needed to replace or modify something in our home. This past year we got sick of all the extra's and cancelled our service contract and decided instead to pay as we go to service our 3 year old furnace (put in by Roy's). We got a coupon for service for $69 and had Roy's come out and the serviceman (Steve) came out and advised us that all he would do is inspect the furnace and not do any cleaning or other work that Roy's would normally with a membership but we could have that done for a total of $205+ or we could renew our service contract for $189. Some people might consider this bait and switch, others might say it is good sales practice, others might say this is poor communication. We decided to renew the membership (which includes air conditioning) instead of paying the $205+. I just want to let you know what we experienced so you are aware how this company operates. At first they were great,came and did work, gave estimates for other things in our home,we even bought a Water heater we didn't need at the time because the age of our existing one was near endpoint. when it came to finishing the job,leveling yard,replacing soil and seeding,FORGET IT. We've been waiting 6 weeks from when they started.We call every week and they say we're on the list. This week they said Tuesday,never showed,now they say Friday. I called after seeing their ads on TV using the former AM Buffalo host , Drew Kahn because I briefly met him and he seemed likable. Forgot that. I need a new hot water tank but I was told I couldn't get an estimate from them for HEAP. The woman I spoke with, Charlene said oh no we don't deal with them. I explained that it's not charity, it is a loan, they just front the payment. But at the end of the day I am paying for it and simply needed an estimate. Most businesses wouldn't refuse a job request but not Roy's Plumbing . I guess I wasn't good enough for their customer profile. After all, they pay a local celebrity wanna be in slick TV ads that make you think they are decent to deal with. Not true. If you're a snob, call them. At the end of the day, people are people and money is money unless you call Roys. They wouldn't even do an estimate. Go elsewhere and deal with real people. read more

BEWARE!! PRICE GOUGERS!! Our furnace stopped working and I called at 3am. Their Emergency Callout didn't respond until 7:30am, later than I expected, but fine. while I was waiting, I opened the furnace panel and determined that the Vent Blower was shot (the small fan that draws outside air to feed the flame). I found the part online from about 10 places with a price range from $130-150. The tech pointed out that I would need a new furnace soon, which I had known, but I wanted him to simply repair what was there for now because it was about 20 degrees, going to 10 degrees outside. I was SHOCKED when he told me the cost. He charged me $850 for the part plus $175 for labor. It's clear to me that they routinely take advantage of the "no heat" situation to convince desperate people to purchase new equipment. I will NEVER call Roy's again for Service or to buy my new furnace next year. read more

I used this company, ADMITTEDLY, a LONG time ago. I had a plugged bathtub and the plumber came over while I was at work. My wife was home and he went and did his thing. I got home from work and she told me the tub was still draining slow, and I said "How, if we had a professional plumber come out and clear it"? She said he literally turned on the hot water and got in the tub with a plunger and that's all he did. No snake, no tools, no nothing. He plunged it until it was somewhat "clear" and charged us whatever. To the company's credit, I called them up and they apologized and I could tell by the woman's tone she wasn't happy with the guy and they did refund my money and sent someone else out. So, to be fair, they did make it right. Again, this was a LONG time ago and maybe things have changed, but whenever you have a company who hires young guys maybe just starting out, stuff like this happens. read more

A fantastic experience with Roy's. I recently needed some work on my furnace. I contacted Roy's and was given a time window for a technician to arrive. When they knew the service tech wasn't going to be able to make it at the original time, I was contacted and informed about the delay and given the new estimated arrival time. When Jeff arrived the first thing he did was apologize for the delay. He then examined the furnace and determined what needed to be done.
