My husband and I came here to celebrate our anniversary and overall had a pleasant experience. Service was a bit slower than usual because the restaurant was backed up, but the staff communicated that to us upfront, which we appreciated. The interior is beautifully designed with a stylish and inviting atmosphere, making it a nice spot for a special occasion. We started with the meatballs, which were just okay for me. The star of that dish was actually the sauce. It was rich, flavorful, and ended up being the perfect dip for the truffle garlic bread, which was easily one of my favorite items of the meal. The bread was crispy, buttery, and packed with truffle flavor. I found myself dipping the bread into the meatball sauce. The brussels sprouts were another standout and probably my favorite savory dish of the night. They were cooked well with great flavor and texture, making them one of those dishes you keep reaching back for even when you tell yourself you're full. I liked that they sprinkled some cheese on top. For the pastas, the spicy crab squid ink pasta was decent but not really my style. The spicy level leaned more towards the numbing rather than a kick. I felt like I was only able to taste spicy in my mouth instead of pasta like it was just burning. If you enjoy that sensation you'll probably appreciate it more, but I'm personally not a huge fan of numbing spice, so it didn't quite hit the mark for me. The short rib bolognese was also okay. It was comforting and hearty enough, but nothing particularly memorable compared to some of the other dishes. They cooked the pasta better on the crab versus the bolognese. The drink my husband ordered was super refreshing and paired nicely with the meal. We also ordered the carrot cake and my husband loved it. It ended up being one of the highlights of dinner for him and was a great way to end our anniversary celebration. Overall, the food is OK, with a couple standout items like the truffle garlic bread and brussels sprouts. It's worth checking out if you're curious or had some Lettuce Entertain You credits to use like us but for me, it's more of a one-time visit than a new favorite. RPM Italian was really good!!!! There are so many italian spots in the city but this one sticks out to me for their really good martini and unique vibe on the inside. This is definitely one of the most modern, fancy italian restaurants in the city. If you want dark lighting, white table clothes, and a trendy upbeat atmosphere this is your place! The food was great as well, but honestly wasn't any better than all of the other amazing italian places. I absolutely loved their Cacio e Pepe, the noodles shape is one I've never seen used before in this dish so that was the one dish that really stood out to me! For a vegetarian, this is probably the RPM you will most likely end up at. The food here was honestly pretty decent as were their cocktails. I had their vodka pasta and while it wasn't the best one ever, I did enjoy it. I loved the atmosphere here, it is enjoyable to be out in a bustling environment. Upscale, almost steak house style ambiance. I had ordered the meatballs and carbonara, which were both great. Super flavorful, great textured meatballs. I usually say I can make better at home, but these were amazing. Carbonara was also good. It was the front staff. I got the text that my order was ready, and I got to the restaurant within 5 minutes. Let the front desk staff know I was there for pick up, and waited.... And waited... and waited. Had to be at least 10-15 minutes. Even had to remind them, because the staff at the front "called it back" but were just standing there chatting. After I said something after 10 minutes, because again, i got a message saying it was ready already, the guy said he would go back and check, and 5 minutes later he did and brought it back. Food was lukewarm. Luckily my hotel heated it up, but the staff were so unprofessional. Food was just sitting there while I was sitting in the front. There is a bar area and then an inside dining area. We got a beautiful spacious booth and everything on the menu looks delicious! What I will say is that everything we ordered was delicious particular the pizzette Bianco with truffles and the tomato sauce was the brightest flavor sauce I've ever had. As we got seated, we placed an order for an unsweetened iced tea as well as a Paloma. Both the iced tea and Paloma had perfectly frosted and transparent ice cubes-which automatically made the drinks fancy-which I enjoyed. The Paloma was delightfully citrusy and had a perfect bite of tequila to end the taste. The iced tea was the perfect concentration of tea and water. We also ordered the arancini as an appetizer, which is a savory combination of cheese and breading, the sweet corn pasta and the filet mignon as an entree, as well as the crispy brussels sprouts on the side. The pasta was absolutely delicious. I'm such a pasta fiend, that I was a little bit nervous about the corn, but it was a surprising combination of Sweet n Savory. Not only did the little pasta pockets burst in your mouth as you savored them! For like 6 minutes-would recommend-they wereincredible. That pasta was easily the highlight of my evening. The filet was relatively standard as it is a leaner cut with a crisp crust. The brussels sprouts were also a standout as they were extremely crispy and not soggy at all! Came here for my girlfriend's birthday, unfortunately, it was less than stellar experience. Prior to coming in, I was reached out asking about my girlfriend's name and age so they can "personalize" the experience. When we got there, front of house staff confirmed it was us and there was no mention of the birthday. I don't mind if birthdays aren't acknowledged, but don't make an effort to ask and make me feel good then not mention it later. I will be pointing out the lack of acknowledgment of birthdays because I found it strange that they reached out to confirm the details then didn't bring it (the birthday) up until we did. The service provided by our waitress, Sarah, was great! No fault to her, she also didn't know it was girlfriend's birthday, only after we told her did she know about it (we told her early on). Sarah was very hospitable to us and shared a small glass of champagne I brought with us for a small toast. Most of the food was great! Octopus was cooked just right, with a kick that I wasn't expecting but brought more to the dish than I expected. Garlic bread had crunch and fluff in all the right spots to make it easy to bite into and pull apart. Girlfriend had the spicy Dungeness crab pasta, which she said there was a good amount of heat but very delicious, though not mind blowing. My sweet corn cappelletti was good at best, where the pasta were sealed together was undercooked, not al dente, on all the cappelletti in the plate. Flavor was great with a lot of corn flavors shining through, I'm big corn fan. Unfortunately, like I mentioned, the pasta was not cooked all the way to al dente. We were kinda scratching our head a little after we were halfway through our RPM affogato, when my girlfriend mentioned there was a lack of almond biscotti. Might have been given the traditional affogato by accident but was charged for a RPM one on the receipt. Bomboloni was so good. It was fluffy and lemon cream was very balanced in flavor. They also gave us a little extra dessert for my girlfriend's birthday. I would say the overall experience was less than subpar because of the fact, once again, it was for a birthday. The effort the restaurant put in to make it memorable, was definitely memorable, but not for the right reasons. Fantastic dinner tonight, and honestly the #1 best part of our meal was the AMAZING service from Carly. She was one of the friendliest, most attentive waitresses I've ever had. Carly seemed to know everything about the menu. She made a lot of recommendations as to what she liked, but then also gave suggestions based off what each of us liked and were in the mood for. From start to finish, she was wonderful. I will absolutely request her on future visits here. We started with drinks and then moved to appetizers. We enjoyed both the whipped ricotta and wild blossom honey focaccia, as well as the Mediterranean octopus. Both were wonderful. Undecided on my main course, i went with the chicken Parmesan. Others in my group had the rigatoni ala vodka and the Mafaldine Cacio e Pepe. Both were very happy with their dishes. For sides, we split the brussel sprouts, which were delicious, and the broccolini, which was a little underwhelming. We had a few desserts. Our server, Saydi was attentive, friendly, and helpful which added to our meal's enjoyment. 4 of us worked thru the menu starting with the tuna crudo and the bite size arancini balls which were perfect to share. We drove to downtown Chicago for dinner in about 45 minutes (no traffic) My American husband had the Spaghetti Carbornara and I had the Kid's portion macaroni with fresh garlic and olive oil (I am child-size at 5'0" and 92.2 lbs. They actually fairly charged me a children's portion despite my older age!! Most places I am limited to just ordering sides They also have gluten-free prepared in separate pans, so perfect for omnivores, Celiacs, vegetarian and vegan!! It's time for me to update my review for RPM Italian -- and this time it's a full five stars. This is hands down our go-to Italian restaurant in the city. The food is consistently delicious, the vibe is lively but still comfortable, and we always have such a great time. But what truly sets this place apart? The service. Specifically -- Daisy. Back in 2024, we met Daisy, their incredible sommelier, and let's just say... we thought we knew wine. We did not. She is unbelievably knowledgeable and has this way of explaining things that makes you feel enlightened, not intimidated. The first time we trusted her to choose a bottle for us, we were hooked. Since then, we don't even look at the wine list -- we just look for Daisy. What I love most about her is her energy and passion. It's contagious. She's actually the reason I became a Champagne rosé girl! Every time we book, we request Daisy and Glenn's section. Glenn is phenomenal -- during our most recent visit he greeted us like old friends and remembered us immediately. That kind of warmth goes a long way. Johnny was our server that evening and he was fantastic as well. When Daisy stopped by and asked what we were in the mood for, we said Italian, and she picked something beautiful while walking us through the region it came from. Every single time we dine here, we learn something new from her. One of the managers, Brad, stopped by with an amuse bouche (such a nice touch) and introduced himself. We made sure to tell him how wonderful Daisy is -- because managers need to know when they have someone that special on their team. But the moment that sealed this five-star review? Daisy walked by and said, "You didn't order your Carbonara?" The fact that she remembered what I ordered back in December is remarkable. She not only remembers our wine preferences -- she remembers what I ate. She has an incredible memory and somehow makes you feel like you're her only table. I decided to start with the martini, well because who doesn't live for a great martini and it had a caviar bump on the side SOLD. The olive juice had just the right amount of saltiness, so delic. I asked for extra olive juice as I like my martini a little motel sheets filthy and yummy yummy get in my tummy. My friend had the seasonal old fashioned and it was delic as well. Not too sweet or smoky just a well balanced old fashioned. For our starter we had the beef tartare and oh my it was absolutely delicious. It's mixed table side and has a fantastic horseradish finish - served with chips. For mains we went with the carbonara and the squid ink pasta topped with crab and both were fantastic and well balanced. The pasta was perfectly cooked and the dishes were executed very well. The RPM brand has quite the reputation and so I wanted to see for myself at RPM Italian. Reservations are necessary here, it's full, no matter what type of weather Chicago is enduring. The space overall is very pretty, well decorated, and modern. It's very trendy and you can see why when you walk inside. Service was fantastic. Our server was upbeat and patient with our questions. He also paced out food after we ordered. Great service from start to finish. We had mocktails and cocktails with our meal. Mocktails are priced as much as cocktails, so buyer beware...although expensive mocktails have become the norm. We started with the Caesar Salad and Whipped Ricotta with Honey & Focaccia Toast. While paying for table bread isn't a norm for me, the ricotta whipped cheese made the $16 price worth it. The amount of cheese provided was also generous and it was delicious. We continued on to our entrees, lobster ravioli and salmon entree. The menu is ala crate, but with the salad and bread, we didn't want to accompany the salad with anything else. The salmon didn't look exciting but the flavor to taste stated otherwise. There's a whipped olive, or mashed olive? It looked like wasabi but was olive. That was intended to pair with the salmon and was a good accompaniment. The lobster ravioli was fresh pasta, lobster filling and sauce. There was a lobster claw in the middle of the dish. It didn't look large, but it was filling. For dessert we had coffees and because it was a birthday, they gave the table mini gelato drumsticks. Possibly an unpopular opinion, but I can only give RPM Italian 3 stars. We started with the Fritto Misto appetizer, which was $26, and were honestly shocked by how little calamari was included. The dish came with just two shrimp and was mostly fried broccoli and vegetables. While we understand fried seafood appetizers aren't always huge portions, for the price we expected significantly more seafood. Beyond the portion size, the dish itself was just okay and nothing memorable. After the appetizer, we were genuinely concerned about the rest of the meal. Fortunately, the entrées were much better. I ordered the spicy Dungeness crab pasta, which was very flavorful and included a generous amount of crab. We also ordered the chicken Parmesan, which was a large portion and probably the dish that saved the meal for us. Our server was friendly and attentive, so no complaints there. However, for the prices being charged and the restaurant's upscale reputation, the overall experience didn't feel particularly elevated or special. The disappointing appetizer set the tone for the evening, and while dinner ended up being good, it wasn't enough to make us want to return. You can find RPM Italian at 52 W Illinois St, Chicago, IL 60654. I believe this area is called "Near North Side" - the restaurant was about a half mile from my hotel, the Hyatt Centric Chicago Magnificent Mile so I'm unsure about the parking situation - since it's in a fairly busy part of town you'll probably need a private lot or Uber/cab. I was here for an event that occupied the entire space which was quite upscale with modernist accents. Dinner started at the bar with a seafood "buffet" where you could basically pick-up-and-go with any of the small plates of sushi and fresh New Brunswick oysters. I stayed near the lobsters and crab legs and really would have been happy to just stay there and eat. We were seated in various tables around the restaurant. The food arrived family style with three of us at our table sharing the various dishes, all paired with wine. Starters included a Truffled Garlic Bread (delicious) and the RPM Harvest Salad (walnuts, apple cider vinaigrette) paired with Graci "Muganazzi" Etna Bianco 2022 Pasta course included: * Mama DePandi's Pomodoro with Genovese Basil * Short Rib Bolognese with Rosemary * Butternut Squash Agnolotti in brown butter, sage, hazelnuts Paired with Caprili Brunello Di Montalcino Riserva Adalberto 2016 I tried all three, disparate flavor profiles and all good in general, but came back for the Agnolotti which was super rich. Entree course included: * Chicken Parmesan with aged Reggiano and Fontina * Grilled Mediterranean Branzino with watercress, Lemon condiment * Open Prairie Ribeye Paired with Ettore Germano Barolo Vigna Ronda 2015 and Tignanello, "Toscana" 2022 The Branzino was fantastic but I mostly ate the Ribeye, perfectly cooked and quite delicious. Various desserts were offered to finish things off along with an digestif flight (amazing that so much stemware, covering all the tables didn't result in any broken glasses - the staff was really fantastic at keeping things moving). I went for the Gelato sundae (they allowed us to go to the kitchen service line, pick from raspberry or chocolate and place the various add-ons (like pistachios, cocoa nibs, coconut, etc) to make each sundae unique. We had made reservations and it was packed on Saturday. Inside was Black and white theme. Had the Expresso Martini and it was very smooth and strong. Definitely helped me stay awake all night and on the very late drive home back. We shared the Imported Burrata. Very creamy with a slight sweetness. The beets were sweet and refreshing with the nutty pistachio pesto. Ate them on the bread they served with the dish. Note, there was no substitute GF bread or crackers. For my entree I had the Carbonara. They served with the Egg in the center. The waiter will help mix the egg and the noodles, letting the heat from the noodles cook the egg. Was a bit too salty from the Pancetta, but still Very delicious and creamy. We didn't have time to have dessert. But the location is Only a 14 min walk to the Cadillac Palace Theater. I will say the meatballs on the happy hour menu are excellent and come two to an order. The ambience is upscale but besides the tree in the lobby, it didn't FEEL very holiday festive which would have bern easy to accomplish. Music is TOO LOUD, you have to read lips to communicate with the waitstaff or have any dialog during your meal. Yesterday, I went with 12 of my colleagues to RPM. It was my first time there. We ordered shared apps and then our own entrees. The burrata and garlic bread were among my favorite apps. I specifically ordered the Braided Short Rib which was the biggest hit of the night. The meat was so nice and tender. It truly fell off the bone. I switched the side to mashed potatoes which paired perfectly with the short rib. For a cocktail , I had the strawberry lemon drop which was great. The service was amazing and it didn't take long for everything to come out. We went on a Monday night and it was pretty packed. The room was dim and gave great vibes when we walked in. The service was friendly but not over-bearing, I didn't think much about it which in this case is typically a good sign of success. The food was great, even better than I was anticipating. We started off with the octopus and arancini. I would recommend both they were amazing. I couldn't pick a favorite of the two. For mains we got the carbonara and dungenous crab pastas. The crab pasta was one of the best pasta dishes I have had in a long while. The carbonara did not fall short of this by much either. Everything stood out in its own unique way. You absolutely have to make a reservation here and it was quite busy when we went on a Saturday night. We started off with the Truffle Bianco flatbread which was much, much smaller than we were expecting. On the other hand, the Whipped Ricotta & Wild Blossom Honey bread had a much better portion size and was delicious. We also got their Rigatoni Alla Vodka and Mafaldine Cacio e Pepe pastas which tasted good but again were smaller in portion than expected. To finish off the dinner, the Tiramisu was ordered and it had a nice flavor profile but was more of a cake than a proper Tiramisu. It's such a beautiful, modern dining room. Even with full tables, our server Axel was friendly and attentive with the right number of check ins/ h2o refills. And the food. The Frito Misto is an awesome rendition of tired old calamari-- perfectly fried calamari, shrimp, and veggies. Perfect with Tabasco. Next was the Caesar salad-- uncut romaine with grated parm and toasted parm. Anchovies on the side made this a great course. Our server asked if we were ready for our pasta and we told him to serve it in 10 minutes but it felt like we waited over 20 minutes before it came out. We ordered the whipped ricotta and honey, Caesar salad, and spicy Dungeness crab pasta. The whipped ricotta was great but I wish the toast was warmed up. Caesar salad was really fresh and it tasted like it was assembled by hand since every single slice of lettuce had dressing on it. The spicy Dungeness crab was actually a bit too spicy for me but I really liked the texture of the pasta. Overall a pretty solid restaurant. However the price is a bit on the steep end. read more

It was recommended to be dinette RPM Italian in Chicago through some friends. The interior is a very modern the black and white theme. Food portions were more of the small side of things for the price you pay but the food was delicious nonetheless. The food was... fine. But a few hours later? My stomach said absolutely not and the toilet became my new bestie. At least the drinks were strong (no complaints there) and our waitress was amazing--seriously the highlight of the night. The vibe of the place is cute, very date-night approved, but sitting right by the door was not it. Once the crowd showed up, it felt like we had a third wheel at our table--every person waiting was basically part of the conversation. Waitlist: 9/10 Very good citrus drink but it's a small amount. Shrimp Fra Diavolo: 9/10 Very delicious but gets greasy near the bottom. Lobster Ravioli: 3/10 Undercooked ravioli and the sauce was cold at first. Sent it back and the ravioli was still undercooked. Sauce was mid. BF got this and the quality & portion made him upset, "If the portion is small at least make it right." Service: 5/10 Couple next to us had their order taken before us even though we were sat and said we were ready to order first. When my BF expressed that his pasta was undercooked, she said that the pasta is made to be al dente and my BF had to further clarify that it was not al dente and undercooked. For appetizers we had the whipped ricotta and honey was a lite and flavor choice with two large pieces of toasted bread. The meatballs were great. The Malfadine Cacio e Pepe was fantastic . Highly recommend trying it as an appetizer. It was flavorful and cheesy . The main course was the Barolo Braised short and polenta was good. Could have been warmer. It was very tender . The drinks were very good, the Paparazzi was refreshing. Both spritz had excellent flavor.For dessert we had the carrot cake. Unfortunately, this was disappointing. Finally got to try this place and it did not disappoint! Beautiful decor, dark romantic ambiance, feels classy and not too loud or rowdy. Good for a date, group dining or even solo dining with all the different seating options. I didn't get our server's name but she was really sweet and attentive. Service was great all around. We shared the stracciatella bruschetta, Brussels sprouts, black truffle chicken vesuvio and carbonara. The bruschetta was refreshing, and the chicken vesuvio had a nice crunch and texture on the skin even though it was covered in sauce. Carbonara was pretty standard, still delicious but on the smaller side portion wise. My favorite dish might be the Brussels sprouts lol sooo crispy and well seasoned! I loved our time here. The service was impeccable. Our server was so attentive and kind. We started with comped non alcoholic prosecco- delicious. And garlic bread. The shrimp daviolo was tasty, the carbonara sauce was fresh and light. The eggplant parm is very filling and they're generous with the eggplant. It's baked. The halibut was the special and definitely the best I've tasted with a saffron lemon glaze. For dessert we had the cheesecake with blueberry compote- enough for 4 people. Came here with a friend on a whim for happy hour and was pleasantly surprised by my experience. We didn't have a reservation but we were seated promptly (we arrived around 5:15). The service was extremely kind and attentive. The interior was classy with a large bar in the middle and multiple floors.
