classy and cute italian restaurant near the convention center -- my boyfriend and i came by for a late lunch while visiting the city. we were seated pretty much immediately in a spacious round booth and were introduced to our server -- tim deserves a special shoutout, super friendly and accommodating, and great at talking up the menu and each dish we chose. between the two of us, we ordered the whipped ricotta and wild blossom honey focaccia to start, with the prosciutto tortelloni and lobster fra diavolo as our mains. the focaccia was a perfect balance of lightly creamy and slightly sweet with the bread (not too dry or hard, and easy to spread). the pasta was advertised as made in house, and certainly was delicious and bouncy enough to be believed. sauces were balanced nicely and pleasantly complimented their pastas appropriately. we finished off with the pistachio gelato -- gelato is apparently made in house as well with a machine in the back, and was soft and creamy, paired with a strawberry that was nicely gelatinous and almost a highlight of the dessert. we definitely wish we could come back a lot more often if we lived in the area. read more

My friend and I decided to have a GNO at RPM and had a great experience! We were seated at a round booth, which was perfect for conversation and sharing food. For drinks she ordered the RMP spritz, which she loved, and I had a martini, which was great. For food, we started with the whipped ricotta, which was delicious. After a long few days at a conference, I set up a reservation and headed to RPM Italian, which was just around the corner from our hotel. We wanted to start out with the bread with the honey whipped ricotta, but some large party was rude and hogged it all for themselves (insert sad face here) However! We ended up getting the Truffled Garlic Bread instead, and, y'all..... I've thought about this bread several times since. It was perfection. It wasn't too crunchy, but crunchy enough, perfectly chewy, and the butter on it was perfectly toasted. My mouth is watering as I relive the experience. Now, keep in mind I had been on the whole 30 and hadn't had bread in over 30 days, but am so glad this is how I broke my break and carbs fast. Two folks got the Mafaldine Cacio e Pepe and really enjoyed it. After some hemming and hawing, I settled on the Rigatoni alla Vodka. It was alright... I mean, it was good enough that I finished the WHOLE plate (again... no pasta for 30 days), but I found the sauce to be missing flavor and depth as it just tasted like a simple creamy tomato sauce that had little seasoning. Would I go back? Yep... even if only for the bread, but I would definitely try a different main course. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in DC. Still like the vibe, music and decor in the bar and main restaurant area. Been here many times since my last review eight years ago. Their happy hour is really good, so if you are in the area during those times, I would definitely go to the bar area. For appetizers, I usually get their Wagyu Beef Carpaccio - it is one of the best ones I've had. Other standouts are their Shredded Brussel Sprouts - this dish made me actually like Brussel sprouts-lol. This has avocado, toasted breadcrumbs, and pickled peppers and the Truffled Garlic Bread - so good. For main dishes, my daughter just raves about their Maine Lobster Ravioli. She loves this dish so much. It's the only dish she orders. Actually, you can't go wrong with any of their pasta dishes - Spicy Dungeness Crab, Short Rib Bolognese and Mama DePandi's Bucatini. Other mains we really enjoy is their Prime Dry-Aged Bistecca Fiorentina - this can feed two people, and it's priced at $175, but I think it's worth it. Steak is really good. Also, I really liked their Mediterranean Branzino. Cocktails are great, especially their Old Fashioned. Service has always been top notch here. 4 1/2 Stars. I was meeting a friend during the cherry Blossom week and had a good experience at their sister company in Las Vegas, so I made a reservation for lunch. We took the metro and exited near Chinatown and RPM was just a short walk away. This eatery was full of businesspeople during the lunch hour and filled to capacity by the time we departed. The interior is modern and our server who was also the bartender was friendly and accommodating. We dined on chicken Parmesan, Le Grigliata, and Le Rigatoni Amatriciana. Everything was stellar and for dessert we indulged in pistachio gelato and lemon sorbet which was a solid way to end our lunch before heading to the Tidel Basin to view the cherry blossoms. Round two. Things were better this round. On my open table app I requested booth seating and location to be in the dining room. We were seated with those requests in mind. Things were tight, and we were very close to others. We had to talk louder than we would have liked and there was not much privacy. in the end after dining here twice now, it's not the most quietest restaurant and you are definitely squeezed in wherever you sit. All of the staff were great. Whether it was our waiter, food runners, etc, they were all amazing. Our water was always filled, food came out right away. We did have to wait a while for courses to be brought out. Not sure what that was about. The prawns were light, with good seasoning. The spring pea pasta dish had a good take on it. Noodles were fettuccine like, green, cheese, small amount of slivered asparagus and a few peas. It was good. My friend enjoyed her carbonara. She enjoyed the runny egg. The whipped ricotta was as always amazing. Lastly the meatballs... saving the best for last. Those meatballs are fantastic. They are moist, soft and they had great flavor. Fancy fancy. We had reservations for dinner here not expecting it, so I was relieved to see the massive bar area with plenty of dining tables. The host seemed aware of the situation and seated us in one of their nice booths where I imagine we received the same quality of service as we would in the main dining room. The ambience was lively but refined with what looked like a couple post corporate dinner crowds. The music was a nice down tempo too. My spicy dungeonous crab pasta was generous with the crab but not with flavor. It was neither spicy or flavorful. I had a bite of my daughter's pomodoro sauce and it was bursting with flavor, texture and even more spice than mine. Overall, still an enjoyable time but would order something else. read more

Now, after eating horrible pasta earlier that week, this blessed pasta restored my faith in finding truly authentic and delicious pasta in the Washington, DC area. I've no pictures of the what we ate, as this was a date and I was being "in the moment." On this day, it was their restaurant week menu, so we ordered a few plates of pasta with tender pieces of meat making our mouths water and our hearts dance. The service was top notch, I had an issues with my dress and the waitress was kind enough to assist me. We were shown to our table promptly, they delivered our food with speed and style. I was in DC for a work trip this past week and had dinner here one evening with a colleague after hearing several recommendations. We made a 5:30 PM reservation since our sessions ended at 5:00, and the restaurant was still fairly quiet when we arrived. The relaxed atmosphere was nice, and we had the full attention of our servers. One was in training and paired with a more experienced server, and both were excellent--taking the time to explain the restaurant's history and walk us through the menu. We started with the Rosemary & Sea Salt Focaccia, which was a great way to begin the meal. For my entrée, I ordered the Spicy Dungeness Crab Pasta. The pasta is made fresh daily in-house, and the spice level added just the right amount of heat without overpowering the dish. Generous lumps of crab meat were distributed throughout, and it was absolutely delicious. My colleague ordered the Chicken Parmesan, and I was able to try a small bite - it was equally impressive! The portion sizes for both the bread and entrées were larger than we expected, which was a pleasant surprise. Our experienced server even mentioned that my colleague's leftover chicken would make a great chicken sandwich the next day! By the time we left around 6:30-6:45 PM, the restaurant had nearly filled up. I'm glad we arrived early and missed the rush, as it became noticeably louder once the tables were full. Overall, it was a great dining experience, and I'd definitely recommend it if you're visiting the DC area. read more

From the moment we sat down, the entire experience felt different in the best way. The vibes were great, the atmosphere felt lively yet still comfortable, and the service really stood out. Our server was incredibly nice and knowledgeable, taking the time to walk us through the menu and making sure we had a great experience. Most importantly, the food was excellent. Outstanding food! My wife and I recently ordered DoorDash from RPM Italian and amazingly our food was still warm even though it wasn't picked up on time. We shared the garlic bread; crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside, with tons of garlic and cheese. RPM was a great dining experience. I started with the Espressotini, which was strong, smooth, and perfectly balanced--definitely a standout cocktail. My table shared the garlic bread, and it was flavorful, fresh, and a great way to start the meal. We also tried the calamari, but it wasn't very flavorful and is something I probably wouldn't order again. For my entrée, I had the Rigatoni Alla Vodka with added shrimp. The dish was rich, creamy, and satisfying, and the shrimp complemented the pasta well. The only thing I would have changed is adding a little spice to give the dish an extra kick, but overall it was very enjoyable. The experience here started off bad. We were seated and served water but never received a waiter. After sitting for 15 min, we asked 2 people can we have a waiter come. They both said ok but no one came. Finally one of the guys we flagged came to take our order and said that he'll send our waitress over. No one came. Finally, we asked for the manager and told him what was going on. Every table around us was being waited on except ours. Long story short, he was very apologetic, comped our meal and anything else we wanted to order was on the house. We did end up with a gracious waitress Samari who was also very apologetic and very helpful the rest of the night. The food and drinks were great. No complaints there. read more

After being seated it took some time for anyone to provide service. Ryan noticed that we didn't have any water on the table and asked if someone is serving us. This was my first visit & boy am I happy it went well. We had reservations @ 6:30p last Fri & showed up early due to the rain. Luckily they were able to accommodate with no issues. I wish I took pics but I was too busy eating lol - managed to only get one for the oysters. For app we ordered oysters & grilled artichoke. Then the carbonara, asparagus, grilled prawns & rib eye. The carbonara was phenomenal ... I still dream about it. The pasta had the most perfect bounce & flavor was so on point. I wished there was head butter on the prawns but it was still yummy. I also loved the steak. The only other feedback - perhaps reconsider the lighting? It's very very dim & makes it hard to read the menu... also it's extra dark in the restroom. I can't be the only one voicing that concern - the couple that sat next to us actually turned on the flashlight to look at the menu & shared the same concern. I can't wait till next time! My husband and I have been here twice now and overall we feel the service and ambiance is top tier and the food is pretty good. Frutti de Mare- $41 and unfortunately had very little seafood in it. There was a single shrimp, cut cup chunks of calamari, a small single lobster claw. The seafood had a fishy taste which was disappointing. Bolognese- my husband loved the flavor and meat but wished it was a bigger portion. RPM Cheesecake- Thick, creamy delicious cheesecake. Wow! I'd order this again. Carrot cake- Thick, large portion and perfect. Highly recommend! Truffle garlic bread- very tasty and the perfect amount of crunch. Recommend! Crispy Brussels spouts side- so yummy! Perfectly cooked and had a nice balsamic flavor. Pesto Scallops (summer special)- I loved this and wish it was on the regular menu. Scallops were perfectly cooked, fresh and pesto flavor was subtle but good. Espressotini- 10/10 I'll be back for this beverage! RPM Steak in DC absolutely delivered. We grabbed seats at the bar and the service was outstanding from start to finish--everyone was attentive, welcoming, and perfectly timed without hovering. Enjoyed a lovely light dinner at this chic spot conveniently located across from our hotel. The service was great-waitress was very well versed on the menu and wine list and made great suggestions. We ordered crab pasta from the gluten free menu, a bolognese, fritto misto and salad with added fish. Everything was delicious. While visiting DC for a work event, my team and I went to RPM for a nice dinner together. The dinner had been pre planned because of the size of our group and they were easy to work with and offered some nice customizations (name of the group on our menus, preset menu options, etc). We opted for the 4 course family style option. We had a few less people than expected so it was way too much food for us but the experience was nice regardless. The bar / dining area is nice and had a good vibe. The food was either hit or miss. The apps (burrata, meatballs and salad) and the dessert (tiramisu and cheesecake) were amazing while the main entrees (chicken piccata and swordfish) were not my favorite and I definitely wouldn't order again. For the pastas, u was split as one was fantastic and the other two were just OK. All in all, we enjoyed our experience and I'd be willing to try it again. read more

Night in Naples Event: When we arrived at RPM, we were promptly escorted to the back, making us feel special and excited about the evening ahead. Upon entering the Naples in Italy room, we were informed that we would be seated at table 10. However, upon arriving at table 10, we quickly realized that there were only two seats for the three of us. We informed the lady at the desk, who assured us that they would resolve the issue and in the meantime, we could enjoy the freshly made pizza at the front of the room. As we waited, I noticed a long line of people and empty stands where the pizza should be. After a few minutes, I decided to return to the rear of the room. It took them about 5-10 minutes to fix the problem. The room was dimly lit with a beautiful light in the center of each table, which was a nice touch. However, shortly after the first course was served, our light went out, plunging us into darkness. It was so noticeable that all conversations stopped. The couple sitting with us flagged down someone, who took the light away and promised to return shortly with another one. Unfortunately, we were forgotten about, and a couple of courses later, we had to flag someone down again. This person finally replaced the light. We truly had a dark Night in Naples for about 30 minutes which did not seem to concern anyone. Despite the inconvenience caused by the light outage, I was glad to finally receive the pizza. It was amazing and one of the highlights of the meal. The first course, Carpaccio, was outstanding, and we all loved it. However, the Limone dish was way too lemony for our taste, and we unanimously agreed that it was disappointing. The other pasta dishes were okay, but the pastry donut and ice cream cone were amazing. Finally, I noticed the chef visiting the table next to us and was looking forward to him coming over to our table. However, he went to a second table and never visited us. Overall, I'm writing this review to encourage RPM to improve. From the moment we arrived at the restaurant until we left, we felt neglected. The dishes we were served didn't live up to the hype or our expectations. Here are some simple suggestions if RPM reads this and plans another similar event: 1. Name placards for each seat instead of numbered tables. 2. Test dishes with restaurant patrons before adding them to the menu. 3. Dedicate a staff member to address logistical issues, such as broken lights or chairs. 4. Ensure that all guests receive equal attention. Don't let a line form at the pizza station, and if the chef visits a table, make sure he visits all the tables. read more

I've been a fan of all things RPM for the last few years. So every time that I am visiting a new city and they have an RPM I snatch a reservation right away! Tonight, our waiter, Mike was truly a stand out or should I say stand-up! "Coming to the stage... ladies and gentlemen put your hands together for Mike! He'll be here all week!" Not only was his personality outstanding and comedic, he also knew the menu like the back of his hand. It was like he literally was in the planning, creating, and testing process of each recipe! After hearing his recommendations, we wanted to order everything, but since we weren't dining with Mr.Ramsay we made a decision to split a few appetizers and entrée options. We started with the bread with whipped ricotta and grilled octopus. The bread was grilled beautifully and so was octopus however the octopus was overly salted. It's a very good idea that they paired the dish with fennel because it created a nice break through, but definitely MORE fennel was needed! The standout was that whipped ricotta! so smooth, so delicious and that perfectly toasted bread was the best vehicle for it! The jumbo prawns were grilled perfectly as well, large flavorful and succulent. For entrées, we ordered the Branzino and the spicy crab with squidink pasta. The fish was flavorful and the watercress salad on top added a nice balance of freshness however, watch out for the tiny bones! Each time I visit RPM I get the spicy crab with the squid pasta which usually knocks my socks off... Unfortunately, my socks were still on. The crab was well seasoned, but it was cooked slightly over and the pasta was too al dente and lacked that oceanic flavor that it's known for. Went to RPM Italian for date night. Our first time even though I'm a DMV native and have heard great things about RPM for years. Food was really tasty - we ordered the Brussels sprout salad and truffle garlic bread to start. Then the chicken parmesan with spaghetti, Maine Lobster Ravioli, and the pancetta tortellini to share. My favorite was the Chicken Parm, but I'm biased there lol. Interior was very nicely decorated and definitely intended to set the mood for a nice night out. A little bit too dark as I started feeling sleepy but could have also been the wine and carbs. Service was excellent! All of the staff were friendly and professional. Our waiter checked in frequently, explained the specials, and answered any/all questions. All in all, a great experience and would recommend checking out RPM. The service and ambiance were perfect. I'm seriously so sad and don't want to write this, but have to and hopefully they can turn the issues around and return to their usual perfection. The service has significantly declined. I arrived after my friend who told me she had been seated, and we had a reservation for a Tuesday night. Someone at the host stand asked to verify my party name and acted like security blocking me from entering- I was actually very offended. We were seated at a high top in the bar area- why, I am not sure- I reserved a regular table. The service there is noticeably less than what it is in the main dining room. We went for the restaurant week specials but had to add another app and 2 pastas to make it a full meal. The grilled seafood dish was good, but no where no enough food- a few shrimp and scallops grilled perfectly but literally barely appetizer portion. Again, service lacked their normal perfection, and wasn't impressed with the wait and time for a drink refill. The food was excellent as usual, but the overall experience was extremely lacking. I'd probably rather order takeout/delivery than dine in person again. They should also rethink restaurant week menu - I will not be doing it again. I knew pasta portions were appetizer size already, so I was prepared for that. The pomodoro sauce and homemade pasta was excellent, per usual. Glad that hasn't changed! read more

Met friends for dinner here on a Saturday afternoon...we arrived when they opened (we did have reservations) and were seated immediately...really nice space! We were advised that happy hour was going on 3-6pm, even in a Saturday; amazing right?? Something to note, they have GF menus and can accommodate anyone with dietary restrictions easily. We ordered drinks and apps first, the bread was amazing! I ordered the Bucatini...yum, so good! I did save room for dessert, the carrot cake was amazing!!! After trying RPM, it's in the running for my favorite happy hour in DC! The options are endless and everything we tried, food and drinks included, was delicious. We ran up quite the tab. The restaurant is definitely more upscale, it would make an excellent date night spot! read more

Came here with a party of four, and the ambience was really nice. The lights were dimmed and the place was really full. The service was quick and the pasta was perfectly al dente. I got the short rib Bolognese, which I thought was the perfect size. If you're looking for a more filling meal, I would recommend the chicken Parm, which does come with a small side of pasta, even though it's not stated on the menu. I did take a bite of my friends, lobster ravioli, and her dish was probably my favorite of the night. Also got the Spritz and giggles which I also really enjoyed. read more
