Rich is a Lexus and Toyota master technician with over 20 years of experience. He is honest and very thorough. The shop I was previously going to was getting ridiculously busy and getting an appointment was difficult so I decided to take my car to RS. The first time I stopped by the shop I was in for an oil change on 5th Gen 4runner. When I got there Rich welcomed me offered me something to drink (water, juice coffee) and then showed me around the garage including some very special projects he was working on. He also told me about himself and his relevant work experience which is not something every mechanic would do. After he completed the oil change and tire rotation he did an inspection on the car and let me know what maintenance items I needed to address. He let me know what items where a priority and what could be done at a later time. The work is done to spec and at a fair price. The waiting area is clean and Rich is very easy to talk to and approachable. He can answer whatever questions you might have and never makes you feel silly for asking. I recommend this shop for all your Toyota and Lexus needs...even if it's not an overland build. read more

I have a Toyota minivan which we need for survival in shuttling all the kids around and it was making weird sounds when turning. I randomly found Richard's shop recently via the Instagram "off-road enthusiast" network. RS Automotive has literally just opened but Richard has an extensive background as a Master Tech at Lexus of Beverly Hills and Toyota of Pasadena. I left my 100 series Toyota Land Cruiser for some electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics work and he fixed every little thing whilst overcommunicating every step of the way. He is overqualified to work on all dealership type jobs for Toyota and Lexus models, but is an offroad/4x4 enthusiast himself and, judging from his already full lot, is going to be a bit of a local 4x4 workshop specialist. It is really nice to find such a honest, friendly and expert indie workshop in this "local" (25 min drive - good shops are hard to find!) area - I will be using RS Auto for work in the future and referring friends to them. Got myself some 295 BFG's on my lifted 2018 Toyota Tacoma. Did they look sick? -- yes, but rubbed like crazy. Got a BMC (body mount chop) and an alignment at RS Automotive the same week I called. I contacted several other shops like a good saver should (since I spent all my money on the lift, tires, and gas, jk) and this shop had the best price and availability. BMC looked great, couldn't even tell they did anything. All I know is I can drive without sounding like I'm destroying my truck and can spend more money to get even bigger tires now. I worked with Richard who was very informative and answered all my questions. They are really busy, so you know they have to be a good shop with people who trust them. The pictures of the waiting room are real folks. I'm used to the dirty ripped leather couch shoved at the corner of the garage next to a diarrhea stained restroom. I finally decided to lift my 4runner and RS Automotive Works was the spot to hit up. It's an hour away from me but I didn't mind because there aren't any mechanics near me that specialized in off-road vehicles like Richard does. He explained everything to me very thoroughly and got the job done fast. Him and his team installed my new suspension, performed a body mount chop to fit new big tires, and brought it to get an alignment all in a days work. I have no idea how he's so efficient when there's a line of cars in his shop. He also performed a body mount chop and alignment on my father in-law's Tacoma on the same day. Not only is he fast, he is extremely thorough. You can tell by his work that he is a perfectionist. I am very happy with his work and his prices. I've taken my 2021 TRD Pro Tacoma 4x4 to RS Automotive Works twice in the last 9 months. The first visit was for King suspension and rear leaf spring installation, body mount fabrication, mounting and balancing of 4 33" tires with TPMS, a wheel alignment, and factory windshield replacement with camera calibration. The work was clean and precisely done. They answered all of my questions and addressed all of my concerns ahead of time. To my surprise, I was returned a clean truck as well which is an added bonus for a private shop. The truck drove arrow straight and I hopped on the road the next day The second visit was for an upgrade mount and balance to 35" tires, a body mount relocation kit for clearance issues and an upgrade of gearing to 5.29 from East Coast Gear Supply. RS installed the pre-assembled 3rd members and performed the recommended 1st drive break in procedure. Again, all of my questions and concerns were answered before, during and after the entire process. The work was done with exceptional detail and again, I received a clean truck back :) Rich and Raul are former Toyota/Lexus dealer technicians so I'd also trust them with any other Toyota or Lexus vehicle as well. I've already referred a friends with passenger cars as well and all have been more than satisfied with the work. Look no further! read more

I was introduced to Rich by Dro from Tiremasters after I got some new tires last week. Rich and his team were friendly, knowledgeable and down to earth. I had my front and rear pads, rotors turned, lines bled and they did an overall inspection. tranny fluid and the transfer case fluid was recommended and I figured they already have my 4runner for the day and just went ahead and got those all done. All told, it was just under a grand including the parts. The time, bleeding knuckles and days of backaches saved was well worth what I paid and extremely reasonable.
