After reading the raving reviews, my husband and I decided to go there for a lunch date. SO DISAPPOINTED! Lunch special was $10, and they had a big selection of dishes. Plus you get an eggroll and soup or salad. We sat down and immediately they were very attentive. It's easy because there were only 2 other customers. We ordered from the lunch menu, and immediately, they brought over soup. I didn't ask for soup, but they brought it anyways. Ok. When the main meal came, (and it was fast), we were disappointed in the portions. For $10, I expected more food. The eggroll had more "roll" than any filling. And the filling was mainly carrots. I ordered the broad noodle beef & broccoli stir-fry special. The noodles were all broken up and soggy. The beef was so tough I had a hard time chewing it. My husband ordered the beef bamboo shoot stir fry. There was more soy sauce than anything. Beef was again, tough and dry. Even the soup, was a big disappointment. Great place to enjoy a great thai dish.. This is what appears to be a family run business, they do their best to make their customers feel very welcome. The prices may seem a little bit higher than average thai places, but their quality is superb! I would give 5 stars but this was my first visit and its always hard to really fully judge a place in one visit. First the food is quite good, this is easily the best thai in plano but having said that their nearest competition is zenna. While zenna is quite convienent and open late their thai isn't exactly the best out there. Based on yelpers recommendations we started with the duck rolls, I am a big fan of duck especially when its done in an asian/indian style to really get the flavors going. There wasn't alot of duck in the roll and I would say it was just ok, maybe just a bad day for it so I will order it again in the future to find out. My compatriats both got thai noodle stir frys that they gave high marks to. I had a massman curry with chicken and ordered it a 7 spicy level. I've ordered the same curry at zenna and asked for the highest level of spicy they offer and barely felt the heat without having to add extra siracha. The 7 at Ruang actually set my mouth on fire and made me sweat a bit, I regularly enjoy spicy food so this was a nice change of pace. In addition to the good heat the curry itself was very well done. The balance of veggies/chicken to curry sauce was such that you didn't feel like the rice absorbing the curry was the majority of the meal. It was very hearty, great flavors and quite filling. The only negative I would give is that the attenative service is a bit slow for lunch time. We sat down about 12:10 but didn't get out until 1:20. This was just four people ordering one app and four entrees with hot tea. I appreciated the sevice which was quite attentative but if they could have sped things up a bit i would be able to commit to it for lunch more often. read more

Ruang Thai is located in a dreary looking strip center. I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised. Lots of gold and some burgundyish looking red. Golden tablecloth. There's a wall with some color changing mood lights. A flat screen TV hangs above the cash registers, but there's no sound. Again, it's not something you'll see in some interior design magazine, but by small business standards they are far above the majority of restaurants. The food is much better than most Thai food I've had. Very light and it's actually reasonably spicy. The waitress will give you a choice of how spicy on a scale of 1-5. I said 2.5, and it's a good place to start. The people behind me ordered 4/5, and I could hear them lamenting their decision "This is spicy. I guess I'll have to get a 3/5 next time. Also absent was the disgusting corn starch and sugar laden glaze that befouls the food of many Thai restaurants. The food is a few bucks too expensive for what you get though and your bill will hit $10+ before you know it. The rice comes in this giant ceramic pot thing, but when you remove the lid the amount of rice you get looks like it's leftovers or something. The black rice pudding is a great choice. read more

Everything about Ruang Thai is class. The owners are attentive and friendly, recognize return visitors (it's only been open 3 months and I'm making venture number 5 today.) Each time, I've gone I've taken new visitors and all are impressed and clean their plates. The food is delicious and well presented. The only slight negative I could have is that the entrees don't come out at the same time. The decor is subtle and beautiful. I would happily put one of their menu boards on my wall. This is one of the best Thai places in DFW. Super friendly people, and fantastic food. My wife and I had lunch there last week. The duck rolls came recommended and were worth it. The Tom Yum soup that comes with the lunch specials is earthy and somewhat mild. You can spice it up the excellent condiments on the table. I had the Red Curry, which was above average, and really spicy, but what I can't recommend more is the Gai Grob Norapa. This is crispy chicken infused with lemongrass and basil. I've had this at other Thai joints, but they've nailed it here. It's perfect. Another surprise was the Bird Eye peppers on the table. We were told to stuff one or two in an egg roll. Yes, they're spicy as hell, but it's a bright, citrusy heat. If you're looking for good, authentic Thai in the Collin County, you can do no better. read more

FANTASTIC... Very clean. The service was impeccable. I ordered the Panang Curry and was not let down. I really enjoyed the condiments (bird peppers) and another which was like a pepper relish. Good location but overpriced for the amount and quality of food served. My friend enjoyed the Red curry while I ate Laarb Gai with sticky rice. I went with #4 on the fire scale which was pretty close to accurate. However service was inattentive although restaurant had few patrons. You must try this restuarant! You will not be disappointed. The food is authentic, fresh and as spicy as you want it (3 for me!). The couple that own the restaurant are so welcoming and attentive and the atmosphere is charming. I can't get enough of the Ruang Thai soup, Gang Ka Ree and of course the Pad Thai. Magnificent food! Love the owners and family that run this great thai restaurant. The food is second to none and I have eaten at many Thai places in Dallas (best thai, bananna thai, thai-soon, samui thai, etc). I picked up my Love for Thai in Hawaii (Mekong and Keo's) and Ruang is right there with them. get some hot tea, some pad se ewe and some curry and you will be on cloud nine! The moment you walk inside, you are not only greeted graciously by the owner(s), but you immediately notice the absolutely beautiful decor. The beautiful back wall with the soft lights from electronic candles is mesmerizing. We had the Pad Ta Krai which is a wonderful dish with tofu, lemon grass, bell pepper, carrots, onion, mushroom and basil and the Massamun Curry which featured tofu, coconut milk, bell pepper, potatoes, onion, and peanuts with a great peanut sauce that was just heavenly. If you order Thai tea, you get a very generous amount! We are both vegetarian, so we did not try any meat items, but the majority of the dishes are available with your choice of chicken, beef, pork or tofu. If the meat items are given the attention that was afforded to the non-meat items, then I believe you will enjoy those as well. At the end of the meal, we were given these tiny beautiful floating candles as an appreciation of our patronage. It was a wonderful experience with delicious food. I ordered takeout; yellow curry. I am a very big fan of yellow curry, and have eaten a lot of it from different Thai places. This place needs to invest in some plastic containers. The actual yellow curry entree was wrapped up like a burrito in aluminum foil, inside of the styrofoam box, sauce and all. Some of it leaked out into the plastic bag, but there really wasn't a lot of it to begin with. Whenever I eat yellow curry, I'm used to my food swimming in it. There was a very shallow level of it inside of the aluminum foil. I'm used to there being enough curry sauce afterward to use on some rice, and there was barely enough to really coat all of the food. The taste was fine; it was yellow curry. Nice vegetables, chicken, lots of good flavors. I'm just so bent up over the sauce, the lack of it was so hugely disappointing. I won't come back. read more

Appears to be family run establishment that pays close attention to detail and customer service. I visited for lunch and opted for soup and Green Curry Chicken with "5 of 5" spiciness. Ruang Thai came through on spice level without losing flavorful essence of food. The serving sizes are deliberately modest, but I think that allows you to better appreciate the herbs like lemongrass, coriander and coconut flavors. The Thai Iced Coffee was also very good. We selected our standards - Chicken Satay and Dumplings for appetizers, neither of which were above average (in fact the Dumplings were a bit strange). Has a very extensive menu, featuring (as virtually all restaurants do) an economical lunch portion of most of it. If you're a fan of capsaicin (the chemical responsible for the burn of highly-spiced foods), Ruang will accommodate you with 5 levels. Masochists at level 5 only. But know that capsaicin (like the theobromine of chocolate) is mildly addictive, causing the body to release its own endorphins in response to what it mistakes as an attack. (The body rightly considers it necessary for you to remain calm and functional while under attack and so generates "feel good" molecules to counteract the panic it presumes accompanies attack.) All of this implies a legal high while (literally) indulging in Ruang's fine cuisine. It helps that the owner/maître d' is so accomodating. If the meal is to your liking (anticipated), you can thank her with a wai and a "caw caw qwen qwen" (Thai for "thank you"). read more

We went here for the first time on a Sunday evening based on its great reviews. We ordered the most basic Thai dishes, Pad Thai with chicken and Pad Kee Mow with tofu. Sadly, the Pad Thai was awful... it was not what a Pad Thai should have been. It lacked flavor and the noodles were overcooked. Pad Kee Mow was on the other extreme. It was very salty and spicy (even though we asked for medium spiciness). Also, the dishes were all overpriced for the portion size. Elegant fine dining with excellent servcice. An older couple run the place and clearly take great pride in every detail. The menu has pictures for every item which really helps. They have excellent thai coffee served in an actuall blue and white coffee pot. I had the pad thai because I'm predictable like that. It was extremely good and even distinct from places like Best Thai (maybe creamier?). I live in Austin and regularly travel to Plano for business. This place is always on the tip of my tongue when someone asks where we should go for a meal and am completely amazed at how many of the locals are unaware of this gem in their own back yard. The food has depth, complexity, tons of flavor - and is absolutely outstanding. Order a couple of the appetizers - very much worth it. The service is excellent. The owners are attentive. They do not serve alcohol but don't let that stop you from going. I thought this was going to be a bit of a let down on my first visit as I typically like a good Thai beer with my dinner.
