Very hesitant to come here our first night in Victorville, got here around 8:30 pm Friday -May 22nd, I'm glad my group decided to give it a try because the food was delicious. Didn't get photos of everything since everyone dug in right away, but I got the Molcajete Original and the rest of our group got the seafood version. Both were good! Their corn tortillas were warm, fresh, and smelled amazing. The atmosphere had a really nice vibe, and everyone working there was friendly. If you're looking for good Mexican food, I'd definitely recommend trying this place out. Next time I'm in town, I'm coming back to try more things on the menu. read more

Don't be a sucker, try the octopus! Ruben's Mariscos and Mexican Grill was terrific tonight! We tried the molcajete de mariscos caliente tonight and it was the best we've ever had. Shrimp, fish filet, octopus, abalone, cheese, and cactus, in roasted salsa makes up the molcajete (stone bowl) which came out burbling with a beautiful and that tasty octopus tentacle hanging off the side. If you've never had it, octopus doesn't have a lot of flavor of its own but it takes on the flavor of how it's prepared. In this presentation, soaked up the flavors of the roasted salsa and was so tender with a texture that was the opposite of chewy. I had a couple of happy hour house margaritas and my wife highly recommends the cucumber jalapeño margarita. read more

I was in Victorville for three weeks and in that time I ordered food from Ruben's Mariscos and Mexican Grill 6 times. It was my favorite restaurant in the area. My primary order was the Camerones a la Diabla which I order everywhere I go. The Camerones a la Diabla at Ruben's is one of the best I've had. The shrimp were always cooked very well. There wasn't as many shrimp as I've had at some places but it was a fair portion. I also ordered some of their a la cart tacos and they were always tasty. All of my orders were for delivery. The food always arrived fresh. The tacos in particular held up better than most during the delivery process. The packaging for the a la Diabla was not the best as it was a simple plastic clam shell type container. On every one of my orders sauce had spilled out of the container and got all over everything else in the bag. If I could give a suggestion, the best packaging I've seen for a la Diabla was to put the shrimp and sauce in a soup container and the rice in an underfilled clam shell or turtle shell type container. You can pour the shrimp and their sauce into the other container just before eating and it helps everything stay hot, or cold, and prevents the sauce from getting soaked up by the rice before you even open the container. Since I only ordered delivery I can't really comment on the restaurant's ambiance or the in house service. read more

I walked in and the lady at the front said we have one table, and its gonna be awhile till we get to you. And boy was she not lying. Took us an hour to get our food. It dont take an hour to make 3 tacos a quesadilla, a taco salad and two cocktails. When my wife got her margarita the ice was melted. Very disappointing experience. This place is way too overpriced for what they serve. They charge $7 for a glass of horchata. The $30 fajitas taste like there wasn't any seasoning and the meat was overcooked and dry. The service wasn't great either. The server didn't smile and was not personable. No one came to pick up our bill, we had to walk it up to the counter, and wait for the server to process our payment while she was texting on her phone. OK-we have been eying this place for over a year and finally made it in for lunch. When you walk in you instantly get a good feeling and are greeted by the nicest smiles! Esmeralda was our server and she's the manager. Service was impeccable-she consistently checked on us and even brought over a hotter salsa for my husband to try. Food: My husband ordered his go to cheese enchilada and chile rellano plate. He LOVED it!! I ordered the "small" shrimp cocktail and it was a big size. All the shrimp were meticulously cleaned and the flavor was out of this world! We noticed they have an amazing Happy Hour from 3p-6p we must try. We will be regulars now. Surprisingly unpleasant lunch for my first time visiting this Mexican restaurant location. On entrance the bar is warm and inviting. I've been wanting to try this place since it has great reviews here, however my experience was far from great. I ordered a combination plate with one Al pastor taco, 2 taquitos and one chicken enchilada. The enchilada was supposed to have green sauce on the side but this was covered in red sauce. There was not much chicken, it was mostly cheese and the chicken was fatty and hard to chew. The Al pastor even worse than the chicken. The shredded chicken taquitos were okay but lacked meat. There was a small scoop of guac that had a decent amount of flavor and texture. Probably the best part of the taquitos and plate for $15.99. The rice was alright. Beans were good. Salad was a good small side and the thousand island dressing was interesting, didn't hate it, didn't love it, also didn't think it tasted like thousand island. Salsa/chips combo $3.99 was bland and was watery with no substance. Some extra onions and cilantro added from the tacos for flavor and it made the mark. Chicken tacos $7 for two, were eaten by a hungry growing preteen, he said they were alright and literally drank the remaining salsa with the chips. read more

We have been to Ruben's 4-5 times since our 1st visit a few months back. Every time is enjoyable & delicious. Each dish is so good, we keep going back to try another. The service is always spot-on & the Manager Esmerelda really makes sure all is running smooth and customers are enjoying their food. The food was meh, the service was weird - weird in a way that I can't even explain. Weird like they reach over your plate and the prices on the menu are not the correct prices. So when you think you're spending 50 - EXPECT your bill to truly be about 65 especially when ordering a beer! It reminded me more of a run down Mexican food joint in San Bernardino rather than a restaurant in the desert! An hour later we arrived at a small location and went in. It wasn't that busy, we sat and ordered the molcajete. They have 2 different sizes we ordered the single which proved to be plenty for us. It had steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, green onions cheese and jalapeños. The sauce was probably the best I have ever had. The entire dish was a little warm but not overly hot.I would definitely recommend this place as one of the best Molcajete Iv ever had. I will definitely return soon. OVERALL EXPERIENCE: So I do have to say that the food here is good and authentic. And when it comes to Mexican food authenticity is a big deal to me. This place is casual and it has almost a rustic ambiance and style to it which isn't always the normal with Mexican restaurants. What I love the most is that they incorporated wallpaper art from how Apple Valley use to look like, for example the history of some of the first businesses here, It's neat. They have a bar and plenty of booth and table seating for this somewhat small restaurant. Also they have TV's and a pretty good happy hour. SERVICE: the service was great. Our server was kind and informed. And she definitely was attentive give the situation. They understaffed like most restaurants and they have my empathy and support. WHAT WE ORDERED: - regular super nachos with carnitas - two taco plate with Carne asada - Carnitas wet burrito with green. Sauce - and we got our free chips and salsa. - michelada FOOD OPINION: The nachos were AMAZING! The meat the cheese.... all I have to say is they load that shit up! It was far from dry instead it was super cheesy unlike most places and it was not easy on the meat unlike most places Tacos were OK but I felt this way because the asada wasn't as flavorful and maybe it was just a bad day for them. The rice was OK but the beans were really good. They also make homemade tortillas, hard or soft,, which they use for everything, even their chips and salsa. The salsa was super good and you have to try the other hot sauces they have, they are good. They offer red and green. We had the red and it's flavourful with a nice kick! As for the michelada... my husband gave it 5 stars! He said it was really good but order without ICE.
