    Fish and chips 7.99 special
    Maheen K.

I was craving Rubio's and so wanted to try their 7.99 fish and chips special along with the taco Tuesday deal. I ordered around 10:45 for a pickup at 11:45am. Unfortunately when I got there at 11:45, it was crazy. There was a huge line and people waiting for their orders. I thought since I had ordered well in advance for a set time, my order would be ready. I didn't walk out with my order until 12:15pm. A whole 30 minutes after I was supposed to pickup my order. I got two fish especial keto style(cheese) tacos. My order was sitting on their counter for a while waiting for the fish and chips to come. Pretty much everything became soggy by the time I was handed my food since one item took them a very long time. I think eating it fresh with the fish having a crunch would have been 100% better. But soggy tacos are a big no no on my end. I understand they have taco Tuesday, but this is not a new deal. They should try to manager it better. I felt bad because two men were waiting on catering orders that weren't ready. One said his pickup time was 11:40 and the other 11:45. The workers that were working the front were doing their best to get orders out quickly. I really hope they are better able to manage larger crowds on Tuesdays. This was sad all around. And the quality of the food took a hit because of it.

My view while waiting for an app order that was supposed to be ready 15 minutes ago

I ordered something through the app and ASAP was listed as 12:08pm. I pushed it to 12:15pm. I will say that there is not a good system for pickup of app orders. I had to stand in line after waiting to be acknowledge to let them know I was waiting. I was told that they were working on it. I waited 15 minutes in store for my order to be ready. It kind of defeats the purpose of ordering through the app when attempting to be time efficient.

Mexican street corn bowl with shrimp and mahi mahi
    Drew B.

Rubio's Coastal Grill - Irvine Rating: (3.25/5) Stopped in around 11:40am and ordered the Mexican Street Corn Bowl with Grilled Mahi Mahi, adding extra shrimp with no other substitutions. Starting with the good -- the shrimp portion was excellent. Definitely felt like the "extra" actually meant something here, and they were cooked well. The rest of the bowl was also working in its favor. The corn blend was flavorful, the salsa verde brought brightness, the tajín added that citrusy kick, and overall the base of the bowl came together nicely. Everything outside of the protein had good harmony. Where things slipped was with the mahi mahi -- which was supposed to be the primary protein. There were only a few pieces in the entire bowl, and it honestly felt like an afterthought. For something that's the main add-on, you expect to actually notice it. On top of that, both proteins could have used a bit more seasoning to really stand out against the boldness of the rest of the ingredients. Service-wise, it was busy. The lunch rush had clearly hit hard, with only three people working the kitchen and two handling the front. There was a long table stacked with what looked like 20+ to-go orders waiting for pickup, which probably explains the 22-minute wait time from ordering to receiving the food. Not unreasonable given the rush, but definitely noticeable for a fast-casual spot. Seeing that many completed orders just sitting out did make me wonder how easy it would be for someone to walk in and grab the wrong bag. All in all, it was a decent lunch -- good flavors in the bowl itself, strong shrimp portion, but noticeably light on the mahi mahi and a bit under-seasoned where it mattered most. Final verdict: Good ingredients and solid base, but protein portion and seasoning need improvement. **3.25/5 -- not a bad option, just hoping for better protein balance next time.**

My husband and I love Rubio's, particularly the fish tacos ! I usually order ahead on the app and it's ready by the time I get there. Our favorite salsas are mild and roasted chipotle. Food is fresh and the fried fish isn't overly oily which we prefer. This is our go to spot for a solid meal.

Paying extra for the smallest portions of protein to sit on 5lbs of rice is a rip off!

Tuesday Taco Special is the best deal in OC! Three verde shrimp tacos for $10.00 Hurry, this might not last.

Great Rubio's with excellent fish tacos - you can get a combo with mahi mahi, shrimp and another seafood - and their beans are unique, which also go great with chips. Service prompt and you have to go there and pick up the food. Spacious interior atmosphere as well.

I saw their ad on facebook for the 7+ menu. I tried the fish and chips which is not bad, a little bit on the dry side. Service was decent, this is a counter order and someone bring food to your table but not a full service restaurant. A salsa bar is available. They also have Taco Tuesday, I may try that some other time. The 7+ menu also mentions two taco and one drinks for $7. I also would like to try that next time. Ambiance is better than authetic Mexican taco store.

Rubio's is one of my favorite restaurants in Irvine. I usually order salsa verde shrimp taco plate. It comes with two big shrimp tacos, chips, and beans. Everything tastes delicious. They have the best pinto beans. The shrimp tacos taste delicious as well. Thes verde salsa is tasty as well. The employees here are extremely friendly. They always greet us on a Fri manner. The ambiance is nice as well. I recommend coming here for good food and friendly service.

What is there taco Tuesday deal and when does it start?

Our special on our Original Fish Taco begins at 2:30 pm and goes until closing time, at participating locations. Each Taco is $1.75, and Taco Plates are adjusted as well.

    How about some WiFi?

Rubio's makes money on turn over. WiFi would slow that down. Best try Starbucks for WiFi.

Even though it was 6:15 on a Saturday night, we were able to be sat right away. As soon as we walked in, someone greeted us and showed us to our table. Our server immediately got us waters and asked if we wanted anything else to drink (wife and I both got some delicious beers that they had on tap). We had our little one in tow with us and they were so accommodating to him! As soon as we were ready, our server took our order. We got: Chowder "frots" (fries and tots mixed in with some New England clam chowder, bacon, onions, cheese, and other goodies) 10/10, would definitely order again. My wife got the lobster roll with a side of clam chowder. Loaded with lobster, but you do pay the price. Labeled as market price, this was almost $40. Delicious, but not worth it in our opinion. 6.5/10. Pan roast (house specialty which came with shredded crab, shrimp, clams, and muscles). This, topped with rice, was heavenly. Better than any pan roast I've had. Came out ripping hot as it should. My wife was envious of my dish. 10/10 From the kids menu we also ordered the chicken Alfredo. My kid loved it, but my wife and I both had a bite and wow, we would've ordered that for ourselves it was so good. 10/10. We can't wait to come back just for the food. On top of that, however, service was above and beyond. The servers and everyone in the restaurant were so accommodating to us and our child and made us feel so, so welcome. We would come back even if the food was bad, solely for the service we received. Vibes we great, decoration on the walls look like they hired an artist to paint it. They had two TV's behind the bar / prep area that was showing NBA and PGA which I'll never complain about. All around 10/10 experience.

I tried their lobster roll and was honestly impressed by how fresh and flavorful it was. The lobster was generously portioned, tender, and packed with flavor without being overly heavy. Even if lobster isn't your thing, they have plenty of shrimp options that were amazing like the coconut shrimp and shrimp fries! My bf and I frequent the AMC right next door, so today after a movie we decided to check this place out. We ordered to share: the lobster roll combo ($25) with the clam chowder fries ($6) and a small 8oz side of lobster bisque ($8). We ordered on a tablet but after we ordered the girl behind the counter offered us two free drinks while we waited and she was super friendly, so 5 stars for service. The vibe of the place is super unique and fun inside, they had little shrimp and lobster magnets and decor and they were playing SpongeBob on tv. Even their packaging was very well presented. Unfortunately I think they need to spend more time perfecting their food than just having a cute vibe. The first bite we took was the lobster bisque and we were both shocked at how lukewarm it was, I almost wanted to go back inside to ask if they could warm it up because it was appalling the temperature they served it. Then we squeezed the lemon on the lobster roll (which we ordered the spicy aioli with) and I was truly surprised at how bland it was. Definitely could have used more sauce but honestly if something is tasty on its own it shouldn't need to be drowned in sauce. I was so glad I was sharing this because no part of me wanted to eat that whole dry flavorless lobster roll. The star of the show for us both was the clam chowder fries, the fries were absolutely tasty and would 100% order these again. In effort to save our experience with the other 2 dishes, we tried dipping the roll into the bisque but we just weren't feeling it at all. The more of the bisque we had, we just tasted pure butter like Paula Deen was back there in the kitchen preparing it herself. It wasn't a delicious indulgent type of buttery taste, it was honestly just too much that we didn't even finish the bisque. We immediately felt gross and bloated and decided we needed a walk before driving home. We walked over to Target with heavy guts and energy depleting quickly. On the walk back toward our car, I had to run to the restroom because the food immediately hit me in the worst way possible. On our drive home our mouths felt so dry and we both just felt awful and my bf ran straight to the restroom right when we got home. Bummer when a place that could be great for a lot of moviegoers just fails so hard. The clam chowder fries were good but they're also $13 if you order them without the combo so I'm not sure how often we'll be ordering. I truly hope my review is taken into consideration and the recipes get retested and perfected.

Seared Scallop - (Excellent) Beautifully seared scallops with a lightly caramelized exterior while remaining tender and buttery inside. Premium Chirashi - (Excellent) An assorted sashimi bowl featuring a generous selection of premium fresh seafood over sushi rice. Great variety and beautifully presented. A5 Wagyu Beef (GF) - (Excellent) Rich, buttery A5 Wagyu that literally melts in your mouth. A must-order for beef lovers. King Salmon Sushi (4 pcs) - (Excellent) Thick-cut king salmon with rich flavor and buttery texture. Fresh and satisfying. Hokkaido Scallop Sushi (4 pcs) - (Wonderful) Sweet, tender Hokkaido scallops with a delicate texture that practically melts in your mouth. Miso Soup (3 bowls) - (Excellent) Warm and comforting traditional miso soup served before the main courses. It wasn't an ordinary miso soup, I feel like the base of the soup has a strong seafood flavor which made it even more enjoyable. Hot Green Tea - (Good) A classic hot green tea that paired nicely with the sushi and sashimi throughout the meal. Amato Special Black Sesame Ice Cream (Black Sesame Ice Cream, Dry Persimmons with cream cheese, and Matcha cake- (Excellent) A rich and creamy black sesame ice cream with deep roasted sesame flavor perfect to finish off a sashimi meal. It also comes with Dry persimmons filled with cream cheese which is not too sweet and the two ingredients go so well together. I love the match mochi cake that can pair well with the black sesame ice cream. Birthday Matcha Cake - (Complimentary) A thoughtful birthday surprise from the restaurant that made the celebration even more memorable. It is topped with matcha ice cream with matcha mochi cake underneath. Overall, Izakaya Osen exceeded our expectations and delivered one of the best Japanese dining experiences we've had in Orange County. Every dish was beautifully presented and prepared with high-quality ingredients, from the incredibly fresh sashimi to the melt-in-your-mouth A5 Wagyu and Hokkaido Scallop Sushi. The unique appetizers, flavorful seafood-based miso soup, and outstanding desserts made the meal even more memorable. Combined with the elegant private dining room, peaceful atmosphere, and attentive service, it was the perfect place to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The complimentary birthday matcha cake was a thoughtful finishing touch that made the occasion feel even more special. We already have several more dishes on our list to try next time, and we'll definitely be returning. Izakaya Osen easily earns a well-deserved 5-star rating from us.
