I was really excited to try their new fish and chips as I love fish and chips. The thyme in the breading is very over powering. Not really my favorite thing on battered fish. It was actually off putting. I also got an extra fish and I like how they gave me like half a fish but covered up my 3 pieces of fish with fries so you can't see the mishap. Someone really dropped the ball on that and I got gypped. That's not cool. I haven't been to a rubios in a few years and this was not it. Don't get the fish and chips. I don't eat here often, but when I do I am always happy. I like getting the fish trio so I get a little bit of each, original fish-shrimp-mahi mahi. It's nice to get one of each. I went to Rubio's today to place a takeout order. As I approached the register, the woman working there gave me a cold, unwelcoming look, didn't even say hello. Her behavior while I was ordering was blatantly rude and completely unprofessional. This isn't a one-time issue, it's the third time I've experienced the same disrespect at this location. Wow What a difference a couple of months makes. That last time I was here it was an amazing experience. This location is usually very nice and receptive. NOT TODAY!!! I think I disrupted a conversation with the crew, Because when a counter person came to take my order they just stared at me. I was waiting for a greeting and so I asked if everything was okay. She said yah. It's not welcoming when you just get stared at and not greeted. I kinda felt like leaving, didn't know what was going on. They seemed to be happy amongst themselves, I guess I just effed up the social aspect. Half hour before close and BEFORE we got our meal. Young man started cleaning up the salsa bar. I asked him to wait for our food to arrive before doing that and he said that he had to close it but they had more salsa behind the counter. When I told him I can't go behind the counter to get it he showed indifference. When we asked him to please wait - because they don't close for another half hour he said, but we Pre-Close I tell you what - if I heard an employee do that it would be the last night they worked for me. Shortly thereafter, has started cleaning up. He left the salsa from behind the counter, sitting on the main register counter, unguarded and dump the salsa bar into the main salsa containers from behind the counter, and then walked away, clear health code, violations, with no regard for health and food safety. I should have known things weren't going to end well when I was told it would be a 20 minute wait but I order food anyway. 5-8 minutes after ordering in store I decide since I had to wait I might as well order myself something, so I did (on the app). I must say I was pleasantly surprised with my Rubio's experience! We ordered online: California bowl with chicken, mango wild caught mahi mahi tacos (blackened) with a side of Mexican street corn and citrus rice, cinnamon churro, and chocolate chunk cookie. I also added a TON of salsas: roasted chipotle, picante, mild, and tomatillo. Picking up our order was nice and easy, we skipped the long line and picked up at front. I was pleasantly surprised that our order was correct and all 10-12 salsas I ordered were included! Such a simple thing to be pleased about but I can't tell you how many pickup orders I've had that has been missing something. Bf enjoyed his California bowl. It was nice and big, bigger than Chipotle! It was more rice than chicken but tbh that happens at Chipotle/most restaurants. The mahi mahi tacos were fresh! The mahi mahi was a bit on the smaller side and the sizes weren't consistent in both tacos. I enjoyed the sweet touch of mango and there was a good scoop of avo! The citrus rice was not anything special; tbh it just tasted like white rice. The Mexican street corn (aka elote) was a bit charred but I appreciate that it was grilled in the first place! Too many places boil the elote and it doesn't get that grilled taste. Don't skimp on the salsa!! The salsas are probably the best fast food/restaurant chain salsa I've ever had! There is a variety of salsas! I liked the tomatillo salsa best. I am thoroughly confused as to why the churro was so flattened; it was placed on top of our food so it wasn't crushed. I didn't love it for that reason but bf seemed to enjoy it. The chocolate chunk cookie was individually packaged so they are not made in store. It was a good cookie. I have to say the food is always good here! Fresh and cooked properly. Unfortunately, they are extremely shorthanded in staff . So your order takes a long time to be prepared. Although, it is good, you must be prepared to wait for a while . Pack your patience and be kind. They are trying to hire more people. The dining area is kind of a mess and there were no napkins out anywhere. However, that all goes back to not having enough people to work. Lots of Parking in the lot. This location had a good size crowd on a Wednesday evening. If you can it may be best to order ahead by using the brand new Rubio's app. This location has the same great quality food that you'll get at any other Rubio's location. If you've never had Rubio's, it's always great to try their seasonal dish. Currently the seasonal dish is the Smoky Oaxacan Shrimp. It's available in a bowl, burrito, or street tacos. I got the street tacos this time around. The tacos are amazing and I like to pair them with the chipotle salsa that is available at the toppings bar. The air conditioning in this place is either out or on its last leg. I dined in and SWEAT the entire time. Their ice machine is also broken and sounds like an A380 is trying to take off in the restaurant. The employees were prompt, friendly, and definitely working hard despite the temperature in the building. However, My food was served on a paper plate (not typical for rubios) and their salsa bar was closed. I would recommend going to one of the many other places nearby that offer a habitable dining experience in the AZ heat. read more

I have been going to this Rubios for a few years now. Started to see a decline in service over the 2023. A few eeks ago they ran out of food and we all had to wait until the manager returned with tortias he purchased at walmart across the parking lot. Many customer have been saying the same things for months as you can see on your reviews yet no action has been taken. Wake up and clean this disgusting store. I lost my appetite while eating here because it was disgusting. The problem here is a lack of training and management and total laziness. So it's been a couple of months since I ate at this restaurant and gave the food a great review. The big complaint was the dirty, sticky tables. Today, not really busy. Took a look around. So many dirty tables, crumbs etc. My taco came in a small paper plate. When done, I pick it up to take to trash and it's literally stuck to the table! Half of the paper just stuck right on table. This location gets busy at lunch time .. they have plenty of inside and patio seating.. Check the boards as you walk in for specials .. that's where the good stuff is advertised .. I usually have the fish or shrimp tacos but today the pic for their new bowls caught my eye .. I had the avocado mango quinoa bowl with the grilled shrimp (the shrimps extra $) .. it came out in a huge bowl and was really good .. a little bit of green tomatillo salsa helped dress the salad greens under the quinoa .. Ordered a family meal from this location and it was great. For whatever reason the meal I wanted wasn't available to order online (I got the enchilada meal...only the burrito & taco ones were available online), but it was easy to place my order over the phone). I called in around 3 to pick-up at 3:45 and they were just finishing packing it up as I walked in. Everything was packed nicely. Not only were there plates and plasticware, but also plastic serving utensils. The meal came in one big easy to carry container w/10 enchiladas (we did 5 cheese & 5 chicken), beans (choice of black or pinto) & rice (citrus or Mexican).
