I just ordered a large Veggie Sub on white from the Firehouse Subs on Southern & Dobson in Mesa. After tax, it came out to $15.70. The sub itself was good, the restaurant was clean, and the staff was friendly. No complaints there. But the pricing? Absolutely ridiculous. I checked the Firehouse Subs website afterward, and the large Veggie Sub is listed at $13.25 online, but mine rang up at $14.49 before tax. Even more frustrating, the Veggie Sub is only 25 cents cheaper than several large subs with meat, including the Spicy Cajun Chicken, Jamaican Jerk Turkey, and Hook & Ladder. How does that make sense? This is a sandwich with vegetables, cheese, and condiments. You are already using those same vegetables on other subs. So are we really saying the actual meat protein on those other sandwiches is only worth 25 cents more? Because that is what the pricing suggests. As a vegetarian customer, this feels wildly out of touch. I do not mind paying for good food, but charging almost the same price for a veggie sandwich as a meat-loaded sub feels like price gouging. The staff was friendly, the store was clean, and the sandwich tasted good. That earns 2 stars. But the pricing on the Veggie Sub is completely unreasonable, and that is why I am taking off the other 3. read more

I came here for my lunch break this week. The customer service was wonderful and my Engineer sandwich hit the spot. My sandwich was made correctly and had all of the right customizations. Two people working, myself and another gentleman were waiting patiently for our orders to be taken while the two individuals were working the many lunch orders. A woman comes in after a bit and walks up to the register, ignoring the line completely. The phone starts ringing, after ringing for a couple minutes, one of the employees answers the phone, once off the phone she proceeds to take the order of the woman first, who'd only just arrived, apologizing for the wait and ignore the two of us who'd been waiting patiently. The other employee said nothing. Needless to say both the other gentleman and I walked out, you lost two sales today, and I won't be returning to your establishment, Jersey Mike's is a block away and I have yet to be treated so poorly there. read more

The employees however... watched an employee go outside and smoke (no biggie), then watched her come in, put on her apron, grab a cup and lid from the customer stack and get ice and water. What's the problem with that you ask? She NEVER washed her hands or put on gloves!!!! Received a wheat Turkey and Cramberry sandwich instead. It is the first time at Firehouse that they got my order wrong. When I explained to Steve that my order was wrong, he said he needed to charge me more and he will make another sandwich. I kept the order and left unpleasant. Honestly, I'm very picky about subs. I'm usually not a fan of chain stores. I don't care if they bake their own bread or make their own sides. You have to have good ingredients in a great combination. Firehouse Subs, surprisingly does. I tried a slice of the Meatball Sub 2 years ago. And I really enjoyed it. Unfortunately so did everyone else. Now that a Firehouse is close, I took the family. Our first visit. The staff was friendly and made some good food. We had 3 meatball subs and a steak and cheese. My 2 year old grandson like it all and he's pickier than I am. It's good food and a good price. And if your into hot, they have a huge selection of hot sauces to light up your night. After browsing the menu we decided to come back and try a bunch more items that looked interesting. read more
