Rubio's is my favorite go to seafood Mexican joint!!! Unfortunately this time was by far the saddest of my MANY Rubio's visits. I called in my order for a classic shrimp burrito and was 8 minutes away. The nice staff member informed me that my order would be done in 10 minutes. I arrived and it was ready! YAY! When I started eating the chips, they were not fresh and they tasted like old fry oil. I went to enjoy my burrito and it was luke warm, not hot! I thought if I just called it in then the thing should be hot off the grill? NO!!! The shrimp were cooked to being hard/rubbery and flavorless. The rice was also rather sad and bland. The only two positives were the staff (very nice) and the chipotle salsa. I hope that who ever is cooking there gets help or a tutorial on how to grill shrimp? Rubio's has consistently been my go-to for quick Mexican food for a long time. This location is one of the closer ones to where I live, so I've been a few times now. Today's visit was much better than it usual is as far as a cleanliness and customer experience. I'll typically stop in after work at night so the salsa bar has been tapped by the end of the day and it's somewhat messy from people eating throughout the day. I was happy to see that today this was not the case. The whole restaurant looked really nice! My favorite menu items are the burrito especial and the fish tacos. I ordered a salad and it came with corn already mixed in (I can't eat corn), Shaughnessy took note of my special dietary requirements, made suggestions, and made me a special salad made to order. Chantel was also fantastic and accommodating. One of the employees has even been here for 13 years which says a lot about the management. Customer service is a dying breed with many restaurants. This place focuses on quality food and great service. Fish tacos are some of the best fish tacos you will have. Hair in burrito and they wont do anything about it!! I'm from San Diego and staying in the mountains. My husband and I drove above 25-30 miles to redeem my birthday reward . "BOGO" One of the items was a burrito. We didn't think to unwrap the burrito prior to leaving the establishment to check for hair or anything. We take food back to hotel on mountain top and take a bite of burrito and there's hair inside burrito . Super gross! I just spoke with a manager named Daniel regarding the awful experience that I had which included raw shrimp and he insisted that I had replaced the shrimp with raw undercooked shrimp when I had gotten home, which is absolutely ridiculous. I called him speaking very politely and mature the food safety hazard. And instead of just taking responsibility or addressing the health hazard instead he decided to just point fingers claiming that I must've done that myself, which is absolutely absurd who even would think of that. Took absolutely no accountability whatsoever. just ordered through the website and I came in to pick up my order, however The website was not working even though it took my money. So l had to re-order my food at the front. The AC is broken inside the restaurant, and I had to go over and over multiple times my order the shrimp taco that I had received my shrimp were completely raw as well as my second order of tacos on the salsa Verde plate correct me if I'm wrong, but l don't think you can eat raw shrimp however I got through three of my tacos because I had just gotten off work and I have an infant and I was very hungry until it was just unbearable anymore and I finally couldn't ignore the rubbery disgusting uncooked shrimp. I feel bad for the young man at the counter. He's sweating his ball sack off why everybody's yelling at him for something that's not his fault. Clearly, the manager doesn't give a fuck about their employees or about the service that they are providing. Even with the Sour Cream in the Burrito, it was dry...the Steak, Rice, Beans...all was dry. Needless to say, I used a heavy dose of Salso on that as well. To make it worse, the Chips that came with the Burrito were 1/2 fresh & crispy and 1/2 were covered in oil or stale...so they were chewy...that means they combined new, fresh Chips with a batch of old ones....bummer. One positive thing is that the service here was outstanding. The cashier was very friendly and had a nice, welcoming smile. I also watched a customer complain that one of the sodas was out of syrup on the machine....the employee sincerely apologized and quickly remedied the situation by replacing the empty container with a new one. Came here for a quick lunch on Christmas Eve. After running around doing errands, we were looking for a quick place to eat. We did not want a sit-down-eatery, but we did not want a super-fast-food place (think: golden arches). Perfection: Rubio's. For those East Coasters, Rubio's is chain Mexican Grill, similar in style to Panera. Aka: you order, they cook your food (cook, not microwave fast-food-style), and then you pick it up at the counter. I got the popular fish tacos (with guac and cheese). Mine was very tasty, I would definitely order it again. I would give these tacos a 4/5 in terms of "quick" Mexican! We also got the Atlantic salmon tacos. Not good. Very fishy and very little meat. The chips and black beans were good, so it made the whole trip a 3. I would come back for a quick lunch! I went for the Coastal Trio which was Fish Taco, Shrimp Taco, Tilapia Taco! All were great and loaded with fresh ingredients. If I had to nit-pick the tortilla could've been a little softer, but it held together great! Salsa bar was amazing with something for everyone. I think 6-7 types to choose from. This is a very nice place that I will certainly visit again! If you like Seafood Tacos/Burritos, give this place a try. This place is awesome and I love the California burrito, my favorite thing is there salas's! Usually have great customer service! Only real issue is the bathroom, it's very odd because everything else is pretty clean and taken care of. But the bathrooms smell, and look disgusting! I lost my appetite rather quickly, from the over flowing urinal and the toilet paper filled bathroom, although these aren't the employees fault... I would suggest a more regular bathroom check. The employees were all kept busy and the orderliness of the place showed that. Recently haven't had much luck at this location. Salad always has wilted black leaves, tacos are soggy, fish was under cooked and beans were way too salty. I ordered the Mango Avocado Salad with shrimp for take out. I was really excited to try it. When I got home I took the salad out of the bag and it looked quite light on the amount of lettuce. I started eating the salad and noticed also that there was only about an 1/8 of a cup of the brown rice & quinoa (and that's probably being generous). The shrimp and the mango salsa were very good. However, between very light lettuce and almost none of the rice / quinoa, at least half the meal was "missing". By the time I was done I literally had to go make some more food for myself. I have since called the Customer Service line 3x. The first time I called she said someone would get back to me. A week later I called back because I didn't hear from anyone. I was told they emailed me the day after my first call. While she was on the phone with me I double checked my email and Spam/Junk folder. I had not received an email. I asked to be called and she sent a request to management again. I still didn't hear from anyone. So, a week later I called Customer Service again (3rd time) and requested to speak with a supervisor this time. She said they are all in a meeting and will send a message. Never heard from them either. So, I called the corporate office directly and left a message on their voicemail. It is now 5 days since I called corporate and, again, I have heard from no one. I guess they're ok as long as you have nothing to tell them about their product or issues you may have. So as long as mediocre is ok with you, keep going to them. I plan on going somewhere else where they truly care about their customers and the experience they have when patronizing their business. read more
