I was in the area and did not know what I wanted for dinner, decided to check out Rubio's Coastal Grill. I had been to. Rubios in the past, but not "Coastal Grill". I decided to get the 3 Asada taco combo. Seemed like a good deal and with 3 tacos, rice and beans for $15 the price was good as well. I also got a large bag of chips and a lot of self serve salsa to Take back to my hotel to snack on. They have a nice big outdoor patio as well as a ton of seats inside. The decor has a beach theme of course and it is clean and bright inside. The guy taking my order was cool, had an issue with my ApplePay for a sec, but no issues after. The food was good as far as fast Mexican goes, but I would say the amount of asada on the tacos was lacking, very little on each, which was a bummer. I like very spicy salsas as well as really most kinds, but I was not a fan of their Diablo salsa, not the heat, just the flavor was not to my liking. Overall, nice little taco spot, nice people and hopefully just an off night with the light portion of asada. I would try them again though. They are also apparently "Home of the original fish taco" who knew? Enjoy! read more

Rubio's offers a variety of Baja-style tacos, burritos, bowls, and salads at a phenomenal price. Not only was the food fresh, but this location was also very fast. Both times I ordered to-go I was impressed with how quickly they prepared the food, especially when we ordered five meals! The kid's meals were massive - entrée, two sides, and a drink for under $10 is almost unheard of nowadays. When eating out, you don't have to sacrifice quality or quantity at Rubio's! read more

This franchise of Rubio's is literally less than 5 mins from our home and through the years, I've had good and less than perfect experiences, but this year, this location has been AMAZING!! The staff recognizes me when I walk in - the food is always wonderful, fresh, moist, delicious!! until recently, I didn't know they have a Sweet Potato taco and it is AMAZING with a hint of spiciness that I love!! Ordered the new Queso and Bacon Burrito with steak and extra bacon, and this is what I received. The photo depicts the half-way point of the burrito, and as you can see, it's nothing but rice. No bacon, no cheese and only one tiny piece of steak. While picking up my order, another customer was at the counter complaining that his bowl dish consisted of nothing but rice. My husband loves the fish tacos and churros since he grew up eating them and they bring a sense of nostalgia. I like the Mexican street corn bowl but it has been really inconsistent with the spice level. Sometimes it's mild and other times it's so hot I haven't been able to eat it. The wait times for take out order are generally much longer than the estimates even when there's very few people in the restaurant. There is a decent variety of selections and the prices are fair especially when specials offered on the app. read more

This place is just A-OK. The last time I visited, I ended up having to wait 40 minutes for a pick-up order alongside a crowd of hangry people all waiting for orders. The salsa container they gave me was barely filled so be sure to double check if you're ordering to-go or pick up. The place seemed severely understaffed. Still slow, still stingy as heck with the chicken bite kids meal. After enduring the long wait, crowded spaces and not-so-clean environment; I expected a lot more for $18 bucks. Granted, they aren't exactly McDonalds, they are charging a fairly high premium for four "bites" and about 5-7 steak fries. The kids were in the mood for cherry coke, sigh... I parked in 20m parking and there was no one in line when I arrived; just glad I didn't get a parking ticket because the wait for the meal easily surpassed that. If I owned or managed this place, I would be ashamed... seriously get it together. Doubt I'll be back, there is a reason this chain ranks at 2-3 stars across the board. It's too bad. I really enjoyed this restaurant in the past. I think they have decent food... I go in today to get my normal nine dollar burrito and ask for the lunch special. The cashier who is apparently the manager says oh no we don't have that anymore. So I reluctantly pay 12 or $13 for a burrito only to find out when I get home that the special is alive and well and I was completely misled... I call her up and she says oh no that's called the 5 under $10 menu so apparently I didn't use The right words... as a loyal Rubios customer for many years. I'm a little dumbfounded by this behavior... Is it because the manager is bonused on gross receipts. Can't see myself returning anytime soon. read more

It is fast food. Decent for fast food, but still fast food. As a SDSU alum, there is a comfort food factor with the original Rubio's fish taco since it was walking distance from the dorms. Since then, they have expanded the menu and some items are noteworthy while others are a miss. Today I made a mistake. I accidentally ordered the wrong taco. I admire the mango mahi mahi taco but accidentally ordered the mahi mahi taco (with corn and no guac or mango) and was sadly disappointed in my lunch. On the upside, there was a promo today, so it was not full price. There is a salsa bar which has some nice options like sliced lime and HOT pickled carrots & jalapeño. Otherwise the interior is pretty standard for a fast food joint. The addition of the mobile ordering is nice because you can order ahead to reduce your wait time in the store, but at all three of the locations I have gone to this year keep the mobile orders behind the counter so you have to wait until they have time to give you some attention. This is faster than ordering and waiting, but not as fast as some places that I mobile order from. read more

Update: Went back here because I had a coupon for $5 off an entree. Got the impossible cali burrito and it came out to $10 which was still too much, felt like it was worth $7. I approached a grumpy lady who works here to pick up my order and the attitude was kind of like "Here you go, we don't care if you like it or not" instead of service with a smile and "can I get you anything else?". The burrito was very wet and mushy along with a straight up salty-ness to it. It had like a single potato in it which I would not even call a fry. The salsas tasted artificial and the limes were the most dry limes I've ever seen, almost no juice in them and I could tell they were old. I am a huge fan of their bowls and the consistency of excellent quality at this restaurant chain is what makes me a regular customer. We often get Rubio's for our lunches at work and our organization loves them. The catering arrives hot and fresh, and the bowls are plentiful. I've always been a fan of Rubios and was happy that I had a coupon for $4 off two entrees. I got the chopped salad with chicken and it was quite filling and tasty. My daughter got the California bowl and was also happy with that. I gave it a 3, however, because even though I saw people all around us eating in (vs takeout), everyone was served in disposable bowls with disposable utensils. Rubios is supposed to be environmentally conscious, and yet nowhere did I see permanent, washable plates or utensils. I ordered Rubio's via DoorDash last night. The order didn't take too long to be put together. The driver made two other stops before dropping off my food order on the gate column. I appreciate that detail whenever DoorDash drivers leave my food on the gate column; they don't always leave it in the same area. Some leave it on the column, some leave the food package right on the mat right outside my front door so I only have to open the door to pick it up, and some leave it right inside of the gate so I need to walk out to retrieve my food order. The order was packaged well (ie no liquid leakage inside the bag). The food was warm and fresh. I didn't eat all of it. I ordered extra so I can have food for the next day. The California burrito needed more steak inside but was otherwise tasty and filling. The churro was warm, soft and flavorful as well as not excessively sweet. I ate the mahi mahi salad bowl this morning and the carnitas rice-salad bowl for lunch today. Both needed a bit more on the protein side. Otherwise, I enjoyed both meals. I would recommend this place to others and order from this place again. read more

Shout-out to Zobeida for amazing customer service! First time ordering from Rubio's, dropped in to pickup the order and surprised at how busy it was. The staff handed me or order, only to realize when I got home they handed me just one of two bags. Called to let them know the mistake and they said they would remake the order. Not a big issue but was very pleased when Zobeida came out of the kitchen with a freshly made replacement order and some bottles of complimentary water. Just the kindness and effort to make up for a very normal mistake was appreciated. The whole experience was even better once we tucked into the food. The rice bowl was delicious, the tacos were super flavorful, and the kids got their own diy taco kits which they totally loved. We've been ordering from Rubio's a fair amount during the pandemic. My kid likes their chicken tacos. Today my order was not good at all I got a cilantro lime quinoa bowl with mahi-mahi. The fish was dry and did not taste very good. I ended up pushing it aside and just eating the rice beans and veggies. And my kid ordered three classic chicken tacos, which are the large kind. And he received only one chicken Street taco, which is the smaller kind. Not the best day at this Rubio's. They are always nice when we are in person, though. read more

I usually like Rubio's and stick with the burritos, but this time I decided to venture out and try the Mexican Street Corn Bowl. I have to say that I'm pretty disappointed... For a street corn bowl, there was hardly any corn. It doesn't even look like they put a spoon full of corn in, more like a sprinkling of corn. I pretty much ordered this bowl because I felt like eating corn so I'm pretty disappointed. There were a lot more beans than corn. I think this bowl should be renamed a Black Bean Bowl. They have a lot of great selections! Today, I decided to order the Burrito Especial with grilled veggies, two original fish tacos plate and two wild Alaska salmon tacos plate. The ordering was on their app, user friendly. I love that you can customize your order in detailed. Upon arriving, just tell the employee your name and that's it! I did ask for some extra sauce and limes and she was nice to give me some. All the food was delicious and tasty!! I live in Los Angeles and one thing that I know about Rubios wherever you go, there food taste the same. Trying the burrito especial for the first time, because I'm trying to eat toward a whole food diet and I must tell you it is very yummy! I recommend it! Stopped by on Thursday during our lunch break. It's close to work so it was convenient. We have been to Rubio's numerous times at other locations before, just our first time here. SERVICE - The young guy was our cashier and he was less than enthusiastic. Took our order, gave us our number, and that was as good as their service got. FOOD Beer Battered Fish Burrito - This is my typical order here and it was fine. Tasty. Nothing over the top. The fish was crunchy and the white sauce was good. Bean and Cheese Burrito - It lacked a lot of flavor. Usually with bean and cheese, the beans are seasoned but this tasted bland. Chips - So salty! But it gave the bland bean and cheese balance. I do wish that Rubio's would find it groove and stick with it. They used to have the best fried fish tacos and burritos however today I feel they are no longer focused on just having a great fish taco and want to expand the menu by adding steak and chicken. And the have rebranded it so many times - and keep changing the menu board. In-N-Out has shown that you can do one item really well and be unbelievably successful. Rubio's offer up something I would say Chipotle doesn't and that's a larger variety of seafood. I've eaten Rubio's on several different occasions and sometimes the seafood is too fishy and doesn't give off that fresh taste. I often have a hard time deciding what to choose because some of my previous selections haven't been that great. The shrimp and bacon burrito is a hit or miss for me and the surf and turf burrito hardly has any lobster bits inside. The service is quick and the staff have been friendly. The chips are definitely better than Chipotle chips hands down. That alone would bring me back to Rubio's read more

Taco Tuesdays!! I used to buy their fish tacos on tuesdays as they're nicely discounted . I stopped visiting most of Rubios though as the discounted prices started to creep up . I was in the area and was craving fried fish tacos . I had no idea the current taco Tuesday prices . There were no signs posted either that I could see any advertised prices . The line wasn't too bad to order . Two cashiers were on hand . Chris was kind and patient . He said the original fish taco was on special for $1.75 and the especial fish taco was .25c more for $2.00. The especial has guacamole and salsa . I requested extra cabbage and flour tortillas for both my tacos . My total was $4.31 for two especial tacos (not bad!). The tacos are made to order . I stocked up on salsas and fresh onions while I waited . There's ample seating and patrons all seemed happy tonight . My order was packaged well. I like how they include a wedge of lime with each taco . It's on the outer packaging so it doesn't wet the fish tacos . I really enjoy the supple flour tortillas . The fried fish has a lot of batter and doesn't stay crispy for long if you take it to go. Not a big deal if you don't mind as the flavor profiles of the fish , cabbage , onions , guacamole, salsa are delicious . This was on of our family's first night out since the stay at home orders. The food was okay but the service was terrible. The young man behind the counter wasn't paying attention of the order, he got our order wrong three times. We proceeded to head over to their outdoor patio dining area when one employee proceeded to his break and another employee proved to take bags of disgusting trash by our table while exchanging their plans for that evening yelling across the patio. And for extra fun we were bombarded with the loudest and the most inconsiderate teenage patrons in the patio disrupting other patrons. This was a most disappointing trip here read more
