Don't know what happened but this location has went waaaaay downhill. Food seems like it's never fresh and the orders are incorrect more often than not. Oh and let's not forget to mention that some of the employees are rude, unfriendly and just don't seem to care. Bummer because it's close to work but not worth it. Stupid me, I let my wife talk me into a third attempt at this place... To say disasterous would be an understatement. I ordered the California burrito (Chicken) and got grisly steak (cold). Also chips (stale) with guacamole. Also a fish taco (cold) and a soda. With no intention of complaining because what's the point, we decided to ask for a manager to point out the issues as it was $24 for this mess. The Asst manager Bianca came out with all kinds of attitude arguing with us (with no provocation at all). She offered no remedy as she was full of rebuttals to anything we mentioned. So after she left my wife went in for a refill and got into another "debate" with Bianca. I'm going to leave it at this. I've been going to Rubio's since about 1980 ish (Bay Park) and they have progressively gone south quality, price and service. The fact that I went a third time shows I really used to love their food. This is no longer "that" go-to place. If I ever set foot in a Rubio's again I will ask everyone on Yelp to please slap me. read more

Love this Rubios. We live in Santee and we come here because it's convenient and food is prepared well but most importantly we get great customer service. It's funny because I think the time we always come is when Melissa is on the register and she is very sweet when taking our pain in the butt order lol, sub flour tortillas, no this, no that but can I have this? We get pretty much the same order every time we come. I have to say we get spoiled when Melissa takes our order because we will come every now and then when she's not working and it literally is painful to have to watch the (usually new) cashiers take our order. So, this is mostly a shout out to Melissa for being so awesome and always patient with us. And, I'm sure we are not alone in our pain in the butt food order, so Rubios, we come here for great food but also great service! Our faves: Gourmet Chicken Tacos on flour tortillas (these are sooo indulgent and tasty!), and Fish Tacos but "especial" with the guacamole and cheese added. My husband loves the Salmon burrito. I'm a San Diego native and Rubio's has always been an old time favorite of mine, since I was a kid. Bad things happen when local businesses hop on the corporate bandwagon, re-brand and sell out. We pretty much live by the border here and avocados are a staple in California. So why are you trying to sell "Mexican" cuisine but only give out a spoonful of guacamole with the rolled tacos??? It's enough for THREE bites of one taco. Then you ask for extra guac (for $1.00 more) and only get a salsa bar serving in a plastic cup? This is infuriating and pathetic. You guys took away everything that made the brand classic- the random surf pictures from Baja all over the store, the simple menu and the sunny logo. The girl handing out the food(Nicole,and apparently a manager) was soo rude. Not only to me but I watched her with others and she has a bad attitude! Very disappointed in not only the lack of service but of the attitude of staff at the Santee Rubio's. We ordered online for curbside pickup. We arrived on time to get our order. We made four phone calls upon arrival. 1st phone call- put on hold then disconnected. 2nd call- answered and immediately disconnected. 3rd call- put on hold for 10 minutes. While on hold we called from another phone. Rubio's staff answered and said they would be out in about 5 minutes. 10 minutes later Rubio's staff brought us our food. I asked what the problem was that it took so long, and we were told that if they cannot see our car from their door they don't bring out food. My question is - How did they know what car to look for? No one ever asked us what we were driving. We were parked 3 stalls away from their front door because that was the nearest available parking. No where is it marked to wait in a specific area. So, to sum it up, we received a stone cold shrimp and bacon burrito and some lukewarm wilted mango salad. (Oh, and they got the order wrong on the salad) 25 minutes after it was promised to be ready. Wasted my entire lunch break waiting for food. 3/2/21- still waiting for a response from Rubio's after replying to their link as requested. Apparently they would rather give the impression that they care than actually address the issue. I will never return here. read more

We've given this Rubios location many times to redeem themselves. They're always messing up orders, forgetting things, and food is always cold. This time we ordered a kids fish taco, and recieved 2 taquitos. Luckily my meal was corrects, 3 taco plate. But it was cold. My suggestion, try a different rubios location. read more

I go to Rubio's all the time but this Santee location never grills the shrimp! It's to the point that it's actually raw on the inside! I have tried them 5 times in the past 6months and 3 of the times the shrimp wasn't cooked through, the other times just barely cooked, do they microwave the shrimp here? I end up comparing every Rubio's experience to the original beachside shack. I've come to this location several times over the course of months, it makes a nice lunch stop after a Costco errand run across the street and each time it's been the perfect Rubio's flavor even if I don't include the frosted brownie. I always add lime to my fish tacos or burrito, actually I end up putting their green salsa on all their food at some point. There was more red salsa given here, but I like it spicy so not a problem to have it more wet. read more

Pretty disappointed. We usually love the shrimp burritos from Rubio's, but tonight's order was full of beans and rice, and maybe had 2 shrimp inside. Additionally, our side of guac and chips had the saddest mini scoop of guac that came right on top of the chips. I'm not sure if these issues are due to us ordering through DoorDash, but regardless it is quite disappointing. I grew up with Rubio's, but this is a different location. It has a nice atmosphere and stellar customer service (gracias, Yesenia). Altogether we ordered 3 tacos. 1 did not arrive because the machine was having trouble registering a chicken taco for some reason, but they fixed it and got it to us for free (and it was delicious). The other food items were okay but not as good as I remember Rubio's being. The beans were also less salted than what I'm used to, and the limes were a bit dry and duller in flavor. The quality of the fish in the original fish taco is not nearly as good as some of the other locations I feel. The fish seems overly battered/cooked. The corn tortilla also seemed a bit stale. I'm disappointed with this Santee location and prefer the one on Magnolia/Wisconsin in El Cajon. read more

I stopped by here after work today for some fish tacos. The original on a corn tortilla is my favorite. The fish is not greasy and has the perfect amount of batter. I always ask for extra white sauce on the side to cause it's that good. With some onions and red salsa, it's amazing. read more

OMG - Food in the bowl was 1/2 full of what was pictured, 1/2 the guacamole, and 1/3 the salmon (the smallest salmon slices you ever saw). The salmon was NOT wild, just the obvious "Farmed" garbage. I received a BOGO entree rewards email from them for take out or delivery. So I ordered online for delivery , added my bogo rewards, credit info etc and placed my order at which time it told me I had to pick it up instead of getting it delivered. No problem I just clicked the cancel order bar and it then had me call the store instead of just canceling it. So I call the store to cancel where the manager told me it could not be delivered or canceled. After arguing with him he did finally cancel it telling me it would be 48 to 76 days to get my card tefunded and I would have to call the corporate office Monday to get my rewards put back into my account. I am a disabled senior home bound during this health crisis trying to support our local small business . If you have green checks by take out and delivery and a red x by dine in one would think you would honor your own words. Now instead of getting a meal I get to hassle watching my bank for my card refund, hassle with corporate, and don't get to eat tonight. Thanks for nothing! read more

I have worked in this kind of place & I know that when people show up a half hour to an hour before we close up that we are not happy with that and I felt this when I walked in and I was told this upon entering. Today is my Birthday and I got the BOGO Birthday offer from Rubio's, so I decided to take my wife for lunch. Ordered at 11:30 and we were the only people in the place. Our food came out very quickly which turned out to be not such a good thing. Apparently, they have pre fried some fish for Baja Fish Taco orders because the four taco's that we got were all cold, and tasted like fryer oil. These were not the way we'd remembered a Rubio's Fish Taco. We both decided that there is actually more batter, than fish! Those two reasons are why I am giving such a low rating. It should be zero star, but we did get one of the horrible meals for free, so there's that. I have worked fast food long ago, and have worked a fryer. There should be no reason to work ahead of the lunch crowd by stacking fried fish in a pan, to sit under a heat lamp. So firkin sad if that's what they are doing. That sure is what it tasted like. With that said, Happy Birthday to me, and please Rubio's, do better. You used to be the best. The review should have ended there, but then the upset stomach came for us. I have been coming to this rubies for over 8 years and it's gone down hill a lot. I used to come here after baseball with my parents. Now they won't even eat here anymore because the food is luke warm and not even worth the money. I orderd 2 fish tacos both were cold and tasted like they have been sitting out forever! If you order the chopped salad, ask for dressing on the side. Mine was rendered inedible, drenched to the point that I couldn't tell what ingredient was what, the tortillas were soggy (if they were there), and the heat factor nearly burned my tongue. We ended up here the day that they opened a couple of weeks ago. The place was mobbed but they did move the line really quickly.They had a REALLY perky cashier that loved to say to EVERY customer..."Have a tacotastic day!" He is going to get tired of saying that really quick!! ;) We had to wait for the food quite a while, but it no big deal. The food came out well prepared - my Healthmex Mahi Burrito was pretty stuffed and my DH's fish tacos were well prepared. Nice to have one in Santee! Five stars because of Vinny, one of the managers. He is pretty amazing because he cares about the customer's happiness. He brings out the orders, cleans the areas and checks on the customers. If something isn't right, he offers to fix it. This has become so rare and I sure like seeing someone care a lot about their workplace and customers. He does everything in such a professional and patient way. There should be more Vinnys so I can be happy to spend my hard-earned money at places that care that I spending there instead of elsewhere because of their lack of caring. read more

I really like Rubio's. It's always fresh and you can get a pretty healthy meal that is filling. My go to is the Health Mex Grilled Chicken burrito, no rice, add guacamole. I was disappointed. I had the fish taco special. It had no flavor. I took one bite and threw it away. Also the chips were stale. Maybe the fish tacos were never very good and I just hadn't noticed. Every time we order from this location we wait an absurd amount of time. Whether we order in person or use Door Dash, the restaurant is always running extremely behind in preparing the food. We have waited up to 45 minutes in the restaurant for two items. Today our Door Dash driver had to message us that he had been waiting for our food for 20 minutes. The restaurant updated the app to say our food was ready but when the driver asked, they had not even begun to make our food yet. We are very disappointed in the location of a Rubio's and won't be ordering from here again. read more
