Overall good Chinese takeout. This is the closest takeout place to where I live, so it gets points for convenience as well. I placed an order for takeout at 7pm and it was ready in 15 minutes. The food (chicken fried rice, spring rolls, general tso chicken) was hot and the chicken was crisp. The fried rice was bland tasting, not enough soy sauce or seasoning, but the chicken had a very tasty sauce so I mixed the two together. OK - so after reading the reviews and seeing the prices on their menu ($5 for beef Teriyaki , hell yeah!) I decided to try something different than East China - my usual spot. My run down: 1. Pork fried rice - best part of the meal, fresh, cooked to order. 2. Beef Teriyaki - 4 thin pieces....yes 4. 2 Were fresh, the other 2 were literally like beef jerky from a gas station - no exaggeration, inedible. 3. Crab Rangoon - again great price factor, but they were a giant wrapper, and about a teaspoon of filling. I was shocked they were even passing them off as rangoon. 4. Boneless Ribs - decent, but I've worked in kitchens/run kitchens in the past as a sous chef - some of the meat had been cooked, frozen, thawed, and mixed with fresh. 5. We were starving, it was late and we were on a mini weekend vacation in Hollywood and the only place opened late was this Chinese restaurant. So we really had no choice but to cross our fingers and give it a try. Well we had NO luck! It was NOT good. The fried rice was the worst! I can still smell it. YUK! I think it had mixed veggies which was weird. Maybe that's what gave it the strange flavor. Maybe it was sitting out for a long time. I don't know but it was just off. I've had my share of fried rice and many different versions but this was by far the worst. The honey chicken, the sauce, had no flavor. It was a watered down version. The chicken was crispy and ok but the honey which is the most important part, was just "blah". I think the only thing I enjoyed was the egg roll. I was starving so had yo eat some of the rice but I ended up leaving half of it. Stopped in for lunch with my kiddos. We ordered to go but I needed to use the restroom. Restroom was surprisingly very clean. Our food was cheap and fast. I ordered general chicken, shrimp egg roll, and Hunan Shrimp. Rice was decent. Soup was OK. Chicken had a ketchup taste to me. Shrimp was fresh. Had the House Special Mei Fun and mixed wonton egg drop soup. Both were pretty tasty, but I discovered something that I never realized before: They charge 6% tax to EACH ITEM ON THE TICKET. Am I wrong in believing that the tax should be getting tacked on to the total price. I mean, maybe I'm crazy, but it seems as though every other place on the planet does it that way as well. And what's more... THEY DON"T TELL YOU THAT! So, though they may only be making an additional few cents off of you, they shouldn't be able to do that without your permission. Very nice Chinese restaurant for take out. During our vacation to Fort Lauderdale, we wanted some Chinese food that is close to our hotel. We ordered roast pork fried rice, sesame chicken, lo mein and appetizer chicken wings. They have combination plates options too, serve with pork fried rice & egg roll. Unless you are are a masochist, do not eat here. I have given them several chances to get it right, as the quality with most restaurants varies a bit depending on the chef, but they left me cringing every single time. Examples you say? OK... One time I ordered a quart of hot and sour soup. I found numerous congealed globs of cornstarch (I hope) floating around in it. Awful, had to throw out. Another time I ordered a broccoli dish from the "special diet" section of their menu which clearly states that it was served "prepared with scallion, garlic, ginger, wine served without salt, sugar, corn starch" What I got was just straight up steamed broccoli. Seriously...just. steamed. broccoli. When I brought this to the attention of the girl behind the counter she argued with me and told me that the sauce is served on the side, which, regardless if that is correct or not, I still did not receive any! When I requested said "side" of wine sauce, I got a small tub of the rather awful standard thick gloppy garlic sauce they serve other dishes with. I am not just assuming it is the same sauce other dishes are served with...I have had it before, when I ordered "broccoli with garlic sauce"! When I brought that fact to her attention, she acted like she had no idea what I was talking about and kept arguing! Though I shouldn't have to fight to get what I paid for, I gave up! I honestly believe that a language barrier is to blame for this incident over rudeness or malice, but still, if one can't manage to serve dishes the way they are represented on the menu (it is still printed that way, see picture of menu) and can only manage to make things worse by refusing to correct the issue, regardless if it is due to language or not, perhaps it is time to get out of the restaurant business. Ordered out Chicken Lo Mein and Moo Goo Gai Pan lunch specials today. A lot of food! I ordered the egg drop soup which I found too slimy to finish. Hubby had sweet and sour soup which was okay. We enjoyed both the Lo Mein and the Moo Goo Gai Pan. As with most Chinese restaurants, we could have easily split one entree between the two of us. The restaurant is clean and you could comfortably eat in - they have maybe four tables. There was a steady stream of customers - mostly take out. Food was fresh and cooked to order. The service at this restaurant is unacceptable and the employees do not know how to talk to customers. They messed up my order and gave e someone else's order. I called back to let them know. The employee who was talking to me said that I can come back to get my correct order. I was explaining to employee that I am back at work and won't be able to come back right away, the employee in return cut me off and stated to me that he doesn't have a fucking car and if I want the food I must come back for it. Ruby Chen's was an okay Chinese cuisine restaurant for me. Not the best, but it was convenient because it was located across the street from my hotel. I had General Tso's chicken with white rice. The chicken was a little too hot in temperature for me to eat immediately and still after waiting 8-10 minutes, it was still extremely hot and I ended up having a burnt tongue. The flavor was good however. With my entree I wanted to have either dumplings or crab rangoon, but I didn't have either because they do not sell single serving sizes of either of these. You must make a commitment to buy either 10 crab rangoon or 8 dumplings. Too big for just me. I would like to go back possibly and try other things on the menu to redeem the slight unimpressive dinner I had. I recommend this place if it happens to be convenient but not to seek out. read more

This was the worst Chinese food I have ever had. Chicken tasted old, fried rice didn't taste like any other friend rice I have ever had. Teriyaki chicken had a funny flavor and was mushy. Food is decent , prices a little bit high. Make sure that you check your order. I went there three times - first time everything was fine. Second time they forgot to put egg drop soup . Third time they give me shrimp fried rice instead of BEEF fried rice. And i am allergic to seafood , so I had to throw it away. Not coming back for sure. read more

YES YES YES best Chinese in Ft. Lauderdale. We just came back. It is tiny so I would order take out or order and go pick up if you are too far away. You can ask for it to be spicy (which I would do on the ones not marked spicy) but the taste was spot on otherwise (we do like spicy). I work nearby so I get my lunch from Ruby Chen's at least a couple of times a month. It's best described as a hole-in-the-wall, in an extremely unattractive plaza. But the looks of the place are the worst thing about it. They make, hands down, the best hot &sour soup ever. Their egg rolls are really tasty and if I get a lunch dish, it's usually the roast pork lo mein; it's seasoned really nicely with lots of delicious pork. The only thing I'm not crazy about is their fried rice. I've definitely had better. But the lo mein tastes fine with the white rice so it's no big loss. The service is fast, the young lady behind the counter is a doll and I definitely recommend this place. read more

First of all I will start by saying that Chinese food is one of my favorite ones. I had been here once and I was not impressed. I live 2 minutes away from it and I never felt compelled to come back in the 4 years I have been living in FLL. However on July 10, my bf and I were starving and decided to order for delivery. On a Sunday night not many places are open and willing to deliver. The food came quickly but it was not edible. I could say my bf is a garbage disposal. He will eat anything. But this food was so bad that neither of us could eat it. We went from starving to having our appetite killed my this terrible food. His General Tsos chicken was so hard and the sauce was lacking in flavor and amount. It was like fried hard chicks of chicken. They could be used by the militia as weapon. They were that hard. The dumplings were just as gross. The dumpling wrapper is too thick. My egg foo young per se wasn't tasty and it was rather bland but I though it was nothing a little sauce and soy sauce couldn't fix. Big mistake. The sauce was so bad that not even adding soy sauce to the egg foo young sauce made it better. Basically our appetite disappeared and we threw all the food away. If you are looking to lose weight at the taste of bad food, this is the place to go. It's a shame bc it's so close up my house. We threw away $30 worth of food. It is hard to find a good inexpensive Chinese restaurant around this area, Ruby Chinese was really good for the first couple of times we went, but today the restaurant was empty, just one person picking up his food, I got a sesame chicken, when we got home, we ate right away (it has never been necessary to re heat the food as it is still hot when we get home) I started eating and at the third piece of chicken I got to it was cold in the inside... I taught maybe it has just gotten cold, I tried another piece and it was ok, the next one was cold in the inside again. This is my first visit to Fort Lauderdale. I came for a cruise and we stopped in to eat before we left to go to Orlando. I have had some amazing Chinese food. This was not it. This was some of the most disgusting food of any type I've ever had. The hot and sour soup had absolutely no flavor and my dad's Pork Lo Mein was all cabbage and onions. NO noodles.
