The running joke about moving from up north to Florida is never finding decent Chinese food. After a 5 year hunt, I'd say this spot is best, most consistent Chinese food place we've tried in South Florida. They have all the classic Chinese food staples as well as options catering to most dietary restrictions. I try to eat plant based- all veggie options (fried rice, lo mein) came FULL of vegetables. I can't speak on the service, cleanliness, or ambiance as I used a third party delivery service, however it was super quick and they accommodated additional notes I added to the order. (I.e. "extra spicy" "extra sauce") This food cured my hangover without feeling lethargic or slipping into the post-Chinese food coma after eating. We found dead larvae in our Vegetable Fried Rice. When we called the restaurant no one seem surprised after I told them we ate some of the food they asked soooooo what do you want to do?! With a don't care attitude. They said they'll refund me after verification even though showed the driver the picture of the larvae and explained where the anus was and the mouth. It's already upsetting and ABSOLUTELY disgusting that this was in our food but that restaurant is an abomination for their response to this. No apology no anything just will give you your money back NEVER EAT FROM HERE as much as I use to like this place save yourself from having food that's being severed in an environment that grows these parasites. No one in the staff including management was supportive, nor apologize. They were very cautious as to what they said, so they said, literally almost nothing, except that they wanted to verify how much we ate and then will refund everything else. The driver challenged the picture until I zoomed in and explain where the anus was and the mouth was for this larvae that was in my food. I explain what's to inspect when I literally show you the food that you just brought with dead parasites in there again I'm flabbergasted by the response and them not even attempting to apologize, empathize, or even think about how to make things right. I would highly encourage the world never to eat from this location in Fort Lauderdale inside or ever ordering and if you're on fear factor, please inspect the food unless it's a warm eating challenge. I've been a patron since they opened and previously left good reviews about the quality of their food. This is strictly about their decision to use noticeably smaller containers for their combination dinners. They have raised prices considerably in the last few years which I get but now with those increases you get less soup and dinner which is unacceptable to me. If you need to raise prices again so be it but don't give me less hats scandalous and I won't be ordering another and stick to quarts and see if they are. read more

Once was delivery, my second time was to eat in because my mom was hungry and it was her choice to actually go and sit down even though I knew this restaurant is better for delivery. It's a small hole in the wall located on 27 and Davie Blvd in a shopping center. Only has 3 tables to sit in. When we went, the owner was training an employee and kind of was not paying attention to the rest of the staff that was providing less than good service. First off, the rice had a huge flea/tick looking bug on it (I should've taken a pic) I immediately returned it to the manager training the girl. He took it from my hand and quickly gave me another cartoon of rice. Umm it would've been nice to get an apology or maybe a comp rice or just more of an acknowledgment. Then they forgot knives and the drinks we asked them for multiple times. I had to get up off my seat 4 annoying times. Honestly was not in the mood to complain so I just went with the flow but seriously people?! Food is basic Chinese food. Tastes good, portions are good but nothing to boast about. Prices are average for Chinese. Nothing more to say, you get the point. Parking is free and located in shopping plaza. I can appreciate a crunchy and juicy order of honey chicken fried just right and bathed in sticky finger licking sauce making a mess in all the right ways. Some people like the Lo Mein alongside their meat but I'm a Vegetable Fried Rice kinda girl. Of course, I added an egg roll that I devoured instantaneously upon retrieval. Mixing the dick sauce with the soy and dipping in with pure glory made this fried tube of Asian glory a total hit for me. I had a bite of the Orange Chicken and liked their zesty sauce oozing with citrus flavor and glazed appeal. No one ever really finishes a Chinese meal without a fortune cookie and luckily my message was useful today. I was told by a visiting friend that he was taking me to dine in an upscale Mandarin restaurant. I wasn't really looking at where we were going, but lo, we arrived a a really strange looking take away with four small tables and no waitron. I didn't think it was a very funny joke, however, I held my temper and went to the ordering counter where I had my first problem and that was their inability to understand me. Ho hummm, they got the order all wrong and delivered it to the table in a sack for take away. I tried to make them understand that we were dining at table and would require some utensils, plates, napkins etc. Finally the thinnest paper plate with miniature plastic utensils arrived. (Whilst waiting two big fat cockroaches ran by the table and that gave me the chills as I'm nervous about bugs in restaurants.) I told my friend that I wasn't going to eat the food and that I wanted to get the flock out. He fussed so I tried the won ton soup which had no flavour at all. On to the rather heavy egg roll that was extremely crunchy as if it had been picked up at the Wholesale Chinese Warehouse too many days ago. It was full of something orange and again had no flavour. The main event was something called Peppersteak and onions served with fried rice. Again, not one thing in this concoction had a whit of taste. I could only nibble at these things as they were so dreadful. To top all of this mess off; this dump doesn't serve hot tea of any sort. Consistent local Chinese take-out/Delivery, it's ok, nothing to rave about, regular menu, inexpensive and fast. You can tell a lot of a restaurant by it's soup, if they are bland or bad it's normally a good indicator of what lies ahead for your meal. I have to say the China Star's Wonton Soup is very good, great balanced flavor in the broth, and delicious, fresh wonton noodles, again the classic, I prefer my wonton soup with bok choy in it, unfortunately that's not the norm for these small inexpensive spots. China Star is good for a neighborhood spot, but don't go out of your way. read more

I usually like this place but I was disappointed tonight. General Tso's is on the menu twice. Once under Special Dishes with Pork fried rice included... $7.25. It's also listed under Chef's Specialties and says "served over steamed broccoli" for $9.95. Pork fried rice is an additional $2.50. I ordered the Chef's Special thinking I was going to get a decent portion of broccoli. $15.14 with the rice fee, tip, and tax. When I got the dish home I was disappointed that there were only 3 or 4 pieces of broccoli. I called and asked them what was up with the broc? They said both dishes only come with a couple pieces for decoration. The price difference has to do with portion size. I explained what the website menu says, and the lady said its only a few pieces of broccoli. They offered no remedy or apology of any kind. read more

Second time getting carry out here. Process much easier ordering in person than over the phone. Chose different lunch special. Food is good not great but again it is enough for two meals. Better value than other Chinese carry out closer to federal highway/a1a. Mediocre Chinese food at a value price. General Tso chicken in mostly breading. Sauce is basically ketchup. Request for spicy gets you a packet of hot sauce. There is enough for 2 meals for $8 just like Checkers. Majority of the customers are ordering chicken wing specials with fried rice. NOT a place to visit after dark unless CCW. read more

Wow! I am seriously impressed with their service. I come to Fort Lauderdale often for work and tonight I was really hungry and extremely lazy at the same time. My hotel suggested China Star and I am so glad they did. I ordered online and called right after I got my confirmation e-mail just to make sure they received my order. And they did. The lady that answered the phone was really nice. Told me that it would take 30-40 minutes. And told me to have a nice night. Welp! 30-40 minutes later, I get a knock on my door. And it's my food! It came piping hot and it was absolutely delicious. So glad I ordered food. And I have leftovers because the portions were a great size. I ordered the string beans with chicken. It came with fried rice. I got the house fried rice, which costs a little extra. And also it comes with soup. I got wonton soup. Absolutely delicious. Simple and warming. And an egg roll. The food is never consistently good or bad; sometimes it's solid, sometimes it's awful (see: broccoli with garlic sauce that was literally a to-go container filled with garlic sauce, with steamed broccoli thrown in. SO much sauce, and it wasn't even good. Ended up throwing it away). I don't expect a place like this to be amazing. I expect that it will fulfill my cravings for greasy spoon "would you like pork fried rice with that?" Chinese food cravings, which is usually does. I had read in earlier reviews about issues with delivery, which I have never had before. For some reason the order I've placed this evening has taken over one hour to get here. I guess their deliveries spike up around the evenings/weekends?! I'm not saying I won't order from here again, but I definitely won't get dinner from this place again. There aren't a lot of delivery options in this neighborhood, so I took a chance with China Star. I love their online ordering. It's a big menu but it was easy to navigate. It didn't immediately recalculate pricing correctly when I deleted items, but it corrects it when you add another item. I wanted to hit the $30 threshold for the free General Tso Chicken. Food was delivered hot in about 30 minutes. Steamed Dumplings were huge and too doughy. I loved the vinegar sauce they're served with. No chopsticks were included. That should be standard. Special Lo Mein was decent. Lots of noodles but lacked flavor, veggies and meats. General Tso Chicken was good but when you click the link for the free order, you don't get to choose spice level. I like mine spicy! Szechuan Chicken was pretty good. Egg drop soup was standard. I didn't try the Special Fried Rice we ordered. I was too full.
