I had the fried chicken breast, mac & cheese, and candied yams. The chicken breast was extremely salty. The sides were OK. My lady had the fried tilapia and the same sides. She also found her fish to be very salty. For dessert we shared the chocolate sour cream pound cake. It was dry and flavorless. Entenmann's loaf cakes taste better. The service was so-so. The wait staff was friendly but appeared to be overwhelmed. I asked for the check the same time I ordered the dessert. I had hoped to pay, eat the dessert and leave. My friend had a 7:30 reservation and when we arrived there was no one to greet us. Had to ask the waiter after he took the sitting party if there was a hostess and he said he would get someone and explained to him we had a reservation. Another waiter came and said he would be right be right back and he never did. We stood there for 5 minutes watching them go back and forth and not acknowledging us. Finally we decided to leave. I will not recommend your restaurant due to your staff was not concerned or acknowledged us. I am visiting from out of state and the service I received was unacceptable. read more

After finding out that you needed to make a reservation prior, and it being over booked for the night we went, we still went and got lucky. The host was very friendly and seated us within 15 minutes. Live entertainment was worth the $7 charge. from the most unexpected sources came some really talented performances. now about the food, sitting was really tight so I couldn't get up and do my happy dance but I can't put into words how well they grilled my pork chop, mac and cheese, candy yams and collard greens. This was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had. We were seated by the bartender who then took our drink order and brought them promptly. Thirty minutes later a waiter brought us menus and asked if we wanted any appetizers. We ordered an appetizer and twenty minutes later it was brought to our table, however there were no place settings or utensils to eat with. We asked the waiter for these and he never brought them. We then asked the bartender for these and he gave us one fork and knife. Maybe it was for the best the appetizer was terrible (fried green tomatoes) we never saw the waiter again and after 1 hour of waiting to place our order we got up to leave. The bartender asked if we needed anything and was told the waiter never returned. We left enough money to cover what was brought to us and left. The music of Sterling & Shuvette was FANTASTIC!! We would pay for concert tickets to hear them! Then add the food, the dancing and the fun party atmosphere and we had an evening we will never forget. They played a 2-hour set and no one left the completely full restaurant. Everyone was grooving on the music! Ruby Lees will be a place we will want to visit every year when we visit Hilton Head! Imagine walking into a place and everyone shouts "Welcome new people!" That's the experience we had tonight. The band was lively and really got the crowd into it, playing a great mix of Motown and Carolina Beach Music. I had the fried chicken and a double portion of collard greens. Both were fantastic. My wife and kids had a great time, and my 4 year old daughter was singing Stop in the Name of Love on the way home. We've enjoyed some great restaurants on Hilton Head this week, but this one tops the charts in terms of great food and great time. Just note that they charge $6 on your bill automatically for the music, but it is well worth the cover charge. Food was great, service was on top of it, and the atmosphere was a blast. read more

This year we really wanted to see Deaz Guys so made reservations a month in advance and reconfirmed a couple days before. This place is very deceptive in more ways than one. First the owner is correct, you can't judge the book the cover. We drove up and started to keep driving, but my wife said let's give it a try. The food was good, but as a soul food establishment. The portion was too control compared to other soul food down home restaurants. The music was good and musicians were engaging, but made you feel obligated to leave money in the tip bucket before leaving. "WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO CUSTOMER SERVICE?" Making the customer feel appreciated, even when they are not please, is the goal. That was not accomplished in our experience at Ruby Lee's. We made reservation party of 4 to celebrating my mother in law 64th birthday. Food never arrived after 2 hours of placing the order. The host/owner was totally clueless with no customer service. Then host/owner got mad and told my family to leave. TIMELINE: 7:05 pm ~~Arrived the host/owner walked up to me and said, "Do you have reservations?" as if I was trespassing on private property." There was no... "hello welcome to Ruby Lee's". 7:30 pm~~Waitress takes our order and Deaz Guys began to perform. 7:45 pm~~Waitress returns twice and asked what I ordered and did I want the shrimp fried. 8:00 pm~~Waitress brings our drinks and a different waitress brings 4 dinners that we did not order. This continued to happen throughout the night. 8:30/9:00 pm~~ Waitress does not return...We still have not been served. Now we are speaking with the host/owner. This was no help because he did not show any concerns and he was just as clueless as the waitress that was missing. The only thing the owner cared about was how many people he could get into this tiny restaurant. 100% sure exceeded occupancy limit. Dance floor was six by six. 9:00 pm: Waitress returns to our table from being missing for 30 minutes. I told her don't worry about my table orders and we will be leaving as soon as my mother in law returned from the restroom. (Long line to get in the restroom) 9:15 pm: Hosted/owner come to the table with two plates in his hands which still was not right. He said, "HERE'S YOUR FOOD!" I told him I cancelled that order 15 minutes ago. Then he got very upset and said, "HERE'S YOUR FOOD!" I told him he could eat it because I did not want it. Then he got really loud with me and said, "I DON'T LIKE YOUR ATTITUDE". 9:16 pm: Now my husband is involved because he hears how disrespectful the host/owner was talking to me. Once my husband stood up and told the host/owner a few encouraging words then everything changed. The host asked us to leave but talking loud and being totally unprofessional. Now I feel like am at a comedy show b/c this is truly funny to me. The only reason I went to Ruby Lees was to hear the sounds of Deaz Guys for my mother in law birthday. Nevertheless I will not be returning to Ruby Lee's. I will continue to support Deaz Guys but it will be at The Jazz Corner which is less than 10 minutes away. Better Food, Better Service, Better Sound System, the table is yours for the ENTIRE night and reservations are confirmed by email and telephone. The Jazz Corner would never ask you to leave because they appreciate all of their customers. read more
