But I had no idea how much money can be saved by scavenging for auto parts here. First of all, I should let you know I have absolutely zero knowledge about car maintenance and repair. What I do know is that car parts, especially from the dealership, are astronomically priced. "You want to charge me how much for this piece of plastic trim that goes around the windshield? You've got to be kidding me!" I recently bought an older subaru for driving my dirty and wet pug back and forth from the river. I wanted to fix a few things that either didn't work, or were cosmetically impaired. Specifically, I was looking for the lid to the sunglass holder in the roof, some plastic flashing for the windshield, speaker covers for the doors in the backseat, and the electric switches for the window control on the driver's door in the same make/model/year Subaru I'd just purchased. It was a tall order, but would you believe me if I told you I found everything I needed for less than $35? Talk about one-stop shopping! It's so difficult to determine how many stars to award this experience. Yes, I found everything I needed for a bargain. However, this has to be one of the most intimidating, uncomfortable, overwhelming places I've ever been. There is a long line to enter the facility as everyone checks in with staff electronically, has a photo taken, and signs a waiver. There are rows and rows of old, rusty cars sitting up on blocks, as far as you can see, and I'm sure the insurance liability is a nightmare. I can only imagine how many injuries occur in this place each year. While vehicles are organized in lots by make and model, it takes a lot of exploration to find exactly what you're looking for. Many of the cars are picked over, having been stripped of the most popular parts and accessories. Not everyone is as lucky as I was my first time out. There's really no customer service to speak of. There is apparently an inventory, and the staff at the front desk are able to look up specific makes and models, but none of the cars I was directed to were where they said they'd be. So I found aimlessly strolling through the rows and rows of cars to be the best way to find what I was looking for. If you're up for an adventure, looking to save a few dollars, and don't mind spending a few hours with some folks who are definitely a little rough around the edges, Pick-n-Pull is just the place you want to be.

BUYER BEWARE: "CarMax Certified" Truck Failed in Hours, Leaving Me Out $27k Cash…read more I purchased a "CarMax Certified" 2022 Nissan Frontier (48,000 miles | VIN: 1N6ED1EKXNN614393) from the Clackamas location for over $27k IN CASH, expecting a reliable vehicle for my family and business. Our salesperson, Ian, was professional and great to work with, but the confidence ended less than two hours later. While driving home over the Oregon Coast Range with my 7-year-old daughter, the transmission began slipping, hesitating, and violently jerking forward at highway speeds. A local mechanic inspected it, and Nissan later confirmed a major transmission failure. Worse, Nissan found clear evidence that the transmission had been previously tampered with, removing the factory warranty coverage and throwing responsibility entirely back onto CarMax. The Corporate Runaround: Instead of standing behind their "certified" vehicle, CarMax has subjected me to a week of exhausting escalation and dodging: Service Manager John (Beaverton): Has held the truck for 6 days without providing a diagnosis. He doesn't return calls, ignores Nissan's service department, and literally laughed at the mechanical failure. Operations Manager Elliot: Recited a rigid corporate script to explain why he won't help. General Manager Eugene (Clackamas):Friendly enough, but completely lacks the authority to resolve the issue. The "Solutions" Offered: CarMax has verbally offered completely unacceptable options, refusing to put any of their extensions or promises in writing: 1. A sketchy repair: Forcing me to accept a truck with a known history of tampering, zero Nissan powertrain warranty, and a used/rebuilt LKQ transmission (which Nissan mechanics advised is a dangerous long-term solution). CarMax refused to include a MaxCare warranty to offset this massive risk. 2. An indefinite replacement search:Waiting forever for them to source a truck from across the country, while expecting *me* to pay the shipping costs for their failure. They refuse to do a fair price exchange for comparable trucks already available locally. 3. The Refund Trap: They told me it will take up to 10 days just to get my cash back. The Bottom Line: Vehicles break, but the way CarMax handles it is the real nightmare. Because they are holding onto my $27,000 cash for over a week, I am physically trapped without transportation and completely blocked from buying a reasonable replacement vehicle elsewhere. They gave me a small SUV rental that doesn't fit my business needs, meaning I am actively losing work income every single day while they sit on my money. My Advice: Do not trust Carmax. For us, we located THE truck we wanted, and it just happened to be at 5th Gear Motorz. So, other than a few Yelp reviews (good ones!), we didn't have much to go on. Let me tell you.... our experience was so good that we will look to them for our future used car purchases. And I'm not talking about the experience of a customer that walked in, got a good deal and walked happily into the sunset. No, there is always "that one car" that can have a problem, and where the rubber meets the road is HOW that company supports you AFTER the sale. Especially when buying used. The owner is a master mechanic and checks out all cars to make sure they are sellable beforehand. Good to know. So we got our truck home, and the first thing that happened was it didn't start two days later. We called, and instantly they arranged to get us a new battery. I was impressed. Then, it didn't start again, this time with a new battery that was drained. Wow... OK. They took it in, troubleshot the problem, and thought it was good to go. And then it happened again. Long story short: It took the owner, literally testing each and every circuit to figure out the issue. The starter had worn off in the AUX position, and when you turned off the truck, you could still pull the key out in AUX. Talk about a random, totally difficult thing to diagnose! They promptly bought and installed a new starter --- problem solved, Let me tell you, THESE GUYS STAND BEHIND THEIR SALE. Period. In a day and age where people give less customer service, and don't really care, 5th Gear stands head and shoulders above the rest. I'm sure 99% of all their cars drive off the lot with zero issues... but there's always that ONE vehicle... and we just happened to get it. And they stuck with us, got it solved quickly, and never quit making it right. They've got a loyal customer for life. And we love our truck!! Thanks guys!

A really nice, older guy was helping us, and we were rather sad, that they didn't have any cars that we remotely liked. Along comes the slick owner, or manager with his alligator boots, painted on jeans, leather suit jacket, and slicked back hair, (this sounds like a bad Starsky and Hutch episode, but I swear, it's all true. Go in and ask to meet the manager, so you can see for yourself!) We wanted to leave the lot, but then, when that same manager found out that we had Cash, On Hand, he tried to sell me a car that he bought for his own son! Weird, huh? It got so shady, that the guy said we couldn't even be on the property, to do the deal. Wait. It gets better: I test drive the car, with the salesman. The salesman was yammering about how the manager would NOT buy a car for his son, if there was anything wrong with it... I decided totreat the salesman to a test: I got on Johnson Creek, then took 205 north, to Foster, then drove STRAIGHT to auto zone over on duke, where I asked them to do a free code check. The car came back with a myriad of codes...all bad... one of which was a problem with the torque converter. This is where I looked at the salesman, and he had the NERVE to say, "it's probably an O2 sensor!" I drove as fast as I could, back to the lot, then I told my husband I was dizzy, and hypoglycemic, and needed to get something to eat. Thank you to the food carts across the street!!!! I hope your presence has helped others get out of shady car deals too! I told my husband that was not the car for us, and that I didn't want an ATLAS MOTORS replay, where we agree to purchase a car, then get stuck with thousands in repairs. He agreed. I would say the sales guy was a little pushy, but nice...but, That slick manager? I now have a saying: "When Someone LOOKS like a stereotypical used car salesman...he probably IS a used car salesman." Its called Due Dilligence. If you can't take a used car from 82nd avenue to a mechanic BEFORE you buy it, at LEAST run it by those nice folks at auto zone first. They would be happy to run codes, for FREE! And, three weeks later, we saw the SAME car, across the street from the lot, for sale, by private owner.... Things that make you go, "Hmmmmmmm?" ABS kept my generous deposit in spite of the fact that I filled up the gas tank and gave them a list of all the problems with the car based on the inspection that I paid for.
