Very disappointed....... We've been coming to Ruby of Siam in Highland Park for years and always love it, but today was really disappointing. The place was almost empty during peak lunch hours, kind of surprising. Then, out of nowhere, the server tells us we can't take home leftovers from the lunch specials. Saying that it's four boxes each to take when we literally had one box each. No explanation, just a flat-out "no." We even offered to pay for the to-go boxes, but they still wouldn't let us. It just didn't make sense, especially since we've eaten here so many times, ordered from both the lunch and regular menu, and never had a problem before. It's not like we only come for the specials! We've always talked highly about this place, but this experience just left a bad taste. Not sure if this is a new rule or just something the server decided on, but it felt really unwelcoming. It's sad to see a place we've supported for so long make us feel this way.

Very nice dinning experience. Cozy and nicely decorated. Had the lunch special, pad thai, tum yum soup and a veggie spring roll, all very good! My date had curry chicken with rice which I got a taste off and it was excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. Bill was very reasonable. Will go back again!

I've been going here for years. One of my favorite dishes is the papaya salad with tomatoes and peanuts. I didn't recognize the person at the front desk when I walked in, maybe this place is under new ownership? Anyway the salad was awful. Dressing tasted very water down. I counted four peanuts total. And the price was $14. Take a look at the photo, I did take two bites but you can see how small it is. Was great to have a good Thai restaurant down the road. So I called them and was very friendly. I know mistakes happen. All I asked for was a gift certificate for the cost of the salad and I'd be happy to try it again. They said they would call the manager and call me back. Well it's two days later and I have not heard back. So bad food and bad customer service equals one star. I'll be going to a different Thai place from now on, sadly.

I'm a big fan of Ruby of Siam and everything was on point tonight. The Tom Yum soup was hot and slightly spicy, filled with mushrooms, cilantro and chicken. I was feeling a little under the weather this evening and this was exactly what I needed. The sampler plate with lime chicken, Ruby crab legs and potstickers were a little of everything, and it was a kind of best of the best--small portions of popular appetizers and it was exactly enough. The mango smoothie was thick and lush with perfect chewy boba. The dining room was mostly empty when we arrived but our dishes came out pretty quickly and the staff is always friendly and accommodating.

Food was amazing and, everyone in our party was satisfied with the portions and taste. Service was great for a Saturday in a sense he did a great job for one person on the floor. We didn't get our entrees brought out at the same time for a party of 6. Occasionally I would see another server from the kitchen. Ambiance, decor, lighting, furniture was calming.

I pretty much do grubhub delivery most of the time and their deliveries are fast and the food arrives tasting quite good however dining in the restaurant was just so much better. Duh. The food seemed to have more depth of flavor than take out or delivery. We had the chicken Tom ka soup which is the coconut milk soup. Pad Thai was good not great. Red or green curry are both stand outs and come as hot or as mild as you like. Service was really friendly and efficient So much better than Jimmy Thai which is overrated. Go here!

The curry was flavorful, packed with veggies and chicken, and paired so nicely with the fluffy white rice. We also got the pad woon sen, and it had a nice wok hei flavor; the noodles were bouncy and paired well with the hot sauce on the table as well. Lastly, we got the mango sticky rice for dessert, and they give you SO MANY MANGOES. The rice was sweet, and you had enough mangoes to pair it with every single bite of rice. The service was good; they always made sure to check in on us and even brought us extra plates to let us share our dishes. The only con I have is that I asked for potatoes in my curry, but I didn't know it'd be a dollar extra. It's not a big deal, but I'd love to know when I ask. The ambiance was very Thai themed, and they had a lot of awards for their restaurant. It also caught my eye that they won a food bracket tournament with other restaurants I have heard of as well. There's also a large parking lot and lots of seats if you want to dine in. I also noticed a large amount of takeout orders, so you can tell this place is very popular.

Whoever the Landlord is of this dilapidated strip mall if you're reading this, shame on you. This place though is a true diamond in the rough and gem. I'm definitely coming back here. I only ordered the pad Thai lunch special which came with a bottle of water and it came with a side of small appetizers that included two dumplings a spring roll and a crab Rangoon. There was a live saxophone player and I loved the live flowers they had. Our waiter was extremely nice and took the time to explain the menu as well as their customer favorites. I order a Thai iced tea which wasn't bad but I prefer mine a little thicker and sweeter. It came in a thin tall glass which in theory was not a lot of drink. To start we order the chicken appetizer and fried beef on rice to share and unfortunately I did not snap a pic but these were listed under apps or shareables but the portions were extremely small. As our mains came I noticed that they were also small and each were around $20-$30 per plate. Not a bad thing if you don't eat much but I'm a big bang for buck type of gal. My family came to share and this place is a more fine dining thai restaurant which could explain the smaller portions. We ordered the pad Thai which was alright in my opinion I expected a little more flavor, the aubergine which was tossed vegetables as recommended by our waiter which was also ok not much flavor but beautiful plating though, and the coconut curry which was by far my favorite. If I were to come back here I would order that again, it was a nice light yet complex flavor profile which made me savor every bite. Overall good place for an upbeat fancier meal and I highly recommend the coconut curry braised chicken if you visit. Little pricey but that's just my opinion let me know what you guys think if you visit! Oh and they also give your receipt in a boat which they spin and leave a thank you card once you paid which was really cute.
