If you're walking downtown, drinking, and need some quick, diner style breakfast/brunch options....Ruby's got you. After enjoying RS's Yelp! Elite event, we decided to swing back by Ruby during our own, much-needed, private Sunday Funday. Service is friendly, warm, and works as a team. While this staff/teamwork sentiment often sounds like "that's the way it should be," experienced floor managers must set this tone; the staff genuinely cooperates and likes each other. Drinks were cold, sweet, and delivered quickly. We enjoyed the spinach omelet, French toast, and biscuit sandwich. All were served quickly and "got the job done." When looking around, there were a few groups of ladies "brunchin' hard," laughing, and enjoying themselves. Our main (menu) feedback would be to offer a few, high-end traditional brunch options like a "2 of everything", skillets/scrambles, and overall "bigger" menu options at the $18-$25 price point. Yes, we'll pay more for more food and/or quality. We look forward to our next Sunday stroll, mimosa round, and (of course) biscuits. read more

Coming here was some of the worst experiences me and my family has ever had with a restaurant. I have a pretty big family and we like to do things together. It was my grandmothers 77th birthday party and my mom, uncle and cousin all made reservations here for about close to 30 of us. When we all came we immediately felt unwelcomed. My mom went to the hostess and expressed that we were there for out reservations at 1:30 we got there on time and we all came on a party bus together. He asked several times if everyone was there and we responded several times that were all were here. He also said "well you might not be sat together", my mom said that it was fine. Then they said they "couldnt find" the third reservation from my cousin, she showed it to him on her phone and then they proceeded to find it. After the last reservation was found he says to us, " I mean we can do it you guys are just gonna jam up our kitchen". As a big black family, mostly born and raised in Charleston anyone could see how we would take this as a little discriminatory especially because 1. we had reservations in place for everyone 2. our whole party was there, and 3. We were on time and the restaurant was close to empty, there was one table occupied from what we can see . We ended up just leaving because of how unwelcoming and generally rude they were to us. This was ridiculous especially considering they let about $1000 walk out of their door when they had absolutely no business coming in at the time . As someone who works in the food industry and also deals with people everyday this was just so rude and nasty and it did put a hole in our plans for the day but we called the next restaurant and they invited us in and felt so bad for everything we had to endure here at this location. I seen someone call him "tall, bald and unhelpful" on here so thats the description im going with as well along with a much shorter woman with dirty blonde hair. everyone involved should seriously be ashamed. read more

We stayed virtually next door to this place. in September 2023. Having seen some of the reviews I would agree that service is NOT a high point, or strength of the restaurant. Food, however, was very good, otherwise after the first visit would not have gone back a second time. Be aware you will likely require a more patient attitude and expectation. Can't fully explain why it was so slow. It did seem at various times there was no one on the floor. But, as to food, it was very good. We wanted a breakfast and unlike when at home fully indulge in this meal when vacationing. Pancakes, or waffles, butter and syrup aplenty. The pancakes and waffles were of excellent quality and cooked as we asked. The meats was also very good. Fresh coffee was an issue at times because like virtually all restaurants they sever coffee in very small cups. My guess is they feel they are saving a penny or 2 on not serving as much coffee, but then figure into the equation how often someone on the wait staff has to make a trip to that table, doesn't that cost more than a slightly larger cup? As can be expected if you read this I recommend it for quality of food, but it's going to be slow. read more

This place has an amazing laid back atmosphere. You can sit inside out front or on the back. They also have indoor dining. Depending on the weather I recommend outside. They don't take reservations, but you can go to the web site and put your name on the waitlist. The staff here are super friendly. Our waiter Oliver was amazing super helpful, checked on us often, and very knowledgeable of the menu. The drinks are delicious. The food here is amazing, seasoned to perfection. The Ruby in Charleston is awesome but not as good the one in Charlotte. They make a killer bloody Maria for brunch on weekend. Food was great, bar staff was friendly, but waitstaff was infighting about tables. Had the One Tomato, Two Tomato Benedict with a perfect hollandaise sauce over perfect biscuits. Service horrible. Like really horrible. Let me break it down for you. First I had a problem with the QR code for the parking not working. I went inside and the host told me to park in a different spot. I did and the same thing happened. I went back inside but the host was no where to be found. I waited for about 10 minutes and went looking for a worker. She was sitting in the back on her phone. She ended up helping me with the parking . She then left and said the host would help me. The host never came back . He was outside on his phone, so she came and asked me what I wanted to drink. I told her a pumpkin spice latte. She left and didn't fix it, I suppose bc the host was supposed to... heck , I don't know. Fast forward- he finally came - had an attitude, stayed on his phone and was not trying to help me. Restaurant looks dirty - above where we sat was a vent with dark dirt or mold surrounding it (I didn't see this until midway through our meal). My kids wanted strawberries instead of bacon with their pancakes. We were charged $2 per plate for 3/4 of a strawberry. So, $4 for not even 2 strawberries. We weren't told this until the check. I love coming here. The food is delicious and the staff are always friendly and have good energy. They have both inside and outdoor seating, and 2 bars. I like their mimosa tasting flight but I do wish it was more with juice rather than blue Curacao. Overall the drinks are pretty strong. I love their fusion of southern and typical Louisiana staple foods. Their fried green tomatoes are delicious as is their stuffed french toast! You have to come hungry because its no place for a "light" breakfast. Up the street from our hotel in Charleston, SC. Showed up bright and early today and ready to eat. Seated immediately and began our breakfast feast. Coffee nice and strong and kept the refills coming. We ordered 2 southern biscuit breakfasts and shared the banana foster pain perdu. The entire meal was sinfully good; not for the faint of heart or those on a diet. Best breakfast in town. It was a busy day with lots of patrons, but his stopping at many of the tables to meet and greet his customers, shows how much he and his staff care about their customers. This place near the waterfront must be new or something, because they were not very busy around noon, yet their food was absolutely fabulous and well-priced. We were looking for a brunch/lunch place after a stroll along the park and the rainbow houses, and we happened upon this restaurant. There's a large indoor seating area, which was almost empty, but also 3 tables outside, which we (and others) took advantage of on this nice day. Our family of 4 ordered a french toast bites appetizer, the costa rican, biscuits and gravy, and "the trifecta," which is one of each of their signature eggs benedict dishes. I got to try some of each, since we're fans of eating family-style. Everything was so good - the trifecta was super filling and it was easy to appreciate the unique aspects of each eggs benny when eating them side by side. My sister, who usually refuses to eat french toast, loved the ones we ordered, since they were soft and pillow-y and irresistably brioche. The eggs and gravy weren't anything to write home about, but the portion was large. We had 3 brunches in a row during this family trip to SC and Georgia, and this was everyone's favorite, hands down. read more

I've given them 3 tries and there's always something wrong. First they didn't have what I wanted and I didn't know it until I ordered. Then I tried to order something else and the side I wanted wasn't available so I went for the potatoes which came out old and cold. Service was ok. Three of us ate here on St. Patty's day. The burger--I think the food was very good and nicely done. 10/10 The Classic French Toast-- it was good right amount of serving size, i got a side of grits and it was delicious 8/10. The service was good! We liked our server. We came during the brunch hour on St. Patty's day so it was super busy and did take over 30 minutes to order and a while for our food, but we were patient considering the circumstances. We were so hungry by the time the food came we forgot to take a photo of it! Lol The bathroom could use some attention especially on busy days like this where a lot of people are visiting, but understand how it can slip through the cracks during rush hours.
