I used to live in New Orleans so Ruby Slipper, the sister restaurant, was my absolute favorite brunch spot there. That being said, my fiancé and I were excited to try Ruby Sunshine to see if we could try out our favorite dishes again. We came on Easter Sunday so you can imagine how busy it got but since we were prepared, it really wasn't too bad for us. The waitlist feature is more of a way to save your spot in line before you get to the restaurant. Checking in just means that you've arrived or that your table is coming up soon but doesn't guarantee that your table will be ready right away. They use the same waitlist feature as the one in NOLA so we were familiar with it. The actual wait time for us is usually the wait time stated when you add your group to the waitlist, then ~5-10 more minutes depending on how many groups are before you. As for the food, we were excited to see that the menu is pretty much the same. We always split the eggs cochon and chicken st. charles, and given how busy it was, our food came in good time. Unfortunately our eggs were overpoached but the meats, biscuit, & sauce were still good enough to enjoy our meal. I also ordered the creamy vanilla iced coffee which is always delicious. Overall, our server was nice and attentive throughout our meal. When we gave a little feedback regarding the eggs, she even brought the manager over so that they could improve. The manager made it clear that they were aware of the overpoached eggs and promised to do better. Birthday Brunch for the books! The last time visited was in New Orleans so I was hoping for the same magical food experience. They did not disappoint. No reservations but you must join the waitlist. French toast bites- a brioche bread perfectly done and made in bite-size cubes. Reminded me of how grilled cheese sandwiches are made. They had a cinnamon sugar topping and were served with a praline cream cheese sauce. Honey chile!! Delicious is what they were! Specialty made from scratch- Grilled Fish St. Peter. It's the Grilled fish of the day, which was flounder, over cheesy grit cakes, sauteed spinach, and tomatoes, with a grilled shrimp skewer topped off with a creole hollandaise sauce. Excellent!! Reasonable pricing for a good brunch spot with a large selection of pancakes, waffles, omelets, salads, and burgers. The optimum time is 11 am but remember to waitlist before heading down. So I was very excited about going to this restaurant cause I'd been to one in Tennessee and it was fantastic. I was ready and prepped to love it which is why my experience was so disappointing. By the time we arrived at about 9:30am, there was a bit of a line. No big deal, it was mother's day and there was a coffee shop/ bar open next door. We were fine with waiting. We didn't get seated until 11:45. We'd been told 1 hour--1 1/2 hours. Over two hours was a biiit much. But hey, we were excited now and hungry. We ordered and got some drinks. The 4-top that sat after us got their food before us which was annoying, but whatever. When our food finally arrived it was cold. The French toast bits were actually pretty gross cold so I went ahead and got those taken off our bill. The rest of the food was cold to lukewarm as well, but at least was eatable. All in all the food was equivalent to a Publix deli when it had the potential to be great. I think that was the most disappointing bit. Shout out to Tasha who was a great waitress and very attentive. Not her fault the food was 2/5 and the wait killed our entire morning. Disclaimer: it was Mother's Day, but this was still more than a little ridiculous. I've wanted to visit this restaurant for almost a year. Every time I attempt to visit it never works out... till this past weekend. My friend called prior to our arrival and was told it was a 45-1 hour wait. I arrived 15 minutes later. The parking in South End is tricky, there is street parking or paid parking. I was told that my wait would be 15 minutes. There is a small waiting section with a booth and some extra chairs. The decor is cute and simple. Not too over the top and not too bland. Just right. There are booths and tables. Shortly after sitting I was told that the table was ready. Our waitress was very pleasant and gave her honest opinion when asked about certain items on the menu. I ordered hot coffee, white chocolate bread pudding pancakes and the seasonal lemon lavender beignets to go. The coffee was nothing to rave about, a classic cup of joe. The white chocolate pancakes were delicious! I tried the lemon lavender beignets later that evening. If you like lemon, you'll like them. They were a lot smaller than I expected. I wouldn't reorder. I would give my brunch food & drinks a 5 but the service deserves a zero, so the reason for a 4 star rating??? You need to get there to grab TAKEOUT!!! Ruby Sunshine really hit the mark with the peacemaker entree that lets you combine Benedicts. Hub loved his combination of eggs Cochon & the bayou shrimp benedict. They also offer a varying pancake of the day & I loved my banana crunch ones with chicken sausage on the side. Charlotte's Ruby Sunshine was really reminiscent of Maryland's Miss Shirley's food. We also liked that Koffee could stay in her carrier with us, beneath the table while we dined on their patio on a sunny day. It was overly just fine. Wasn't anything bad that really occurred but wasn't anything spectacular that occurred where I would need to encourage others to go or wait in line for. My sister and I went early upon opening. We were the first people to be placed on a wait. It was only 15-20 minutes. As we sat sitting in that time, the wait grew to over an hour!!!!! The food is fine but I would definitely not wait more than thirty minutes for your run of the mill breakfast food. There was more seating available but due to staffing shortages they could not seat the whole restaurant. I think it was great that they communicated this to everyone. Seating at bar is first come first serve if you're looking to get in and out quick. We sat at a table and were greeted quickly by our server. We got our drinks and then we had a long waiting period. Tables sat after us, had gotten their food and finished eating and we still hadn't gotten our food. Waitress may have forgotten to ring it in but it was never acknowledged or addressed that our food was taking a long time? I understand mistakes but appreciate it being acknowledged. Pure Wow! I had a most excellent first time experience here for breakfast! Great service from Tiffany & Benedict biscuits that were fantastic. A great cup of coffee too! They have a dedicated parking lot in this high density neighborhood. There is also street parking. I was impressed with their COVID protocols for a 'sit down' meal. You can scan their QR code to see their menu and they have digital pay option. They have a nice but kinda small covered patio which will be nice once the weather turns. I see this as a prime spot for pre-game Panthers brunch. The Yelp waitlist option will save you time from waiting in line. Their inspiration comes from their flagship location in New Orleans called the The Ruby Slipper Cafe. It seems the concept is solid as they continue to expand in the Southeast even through COVID. My husband and I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with hot honey on a brioche bun; I ended up taking my chicken out of the bun to eat separately. I had the breakfast tacos and a single berry Chantilly pancake; my friend had the French toast bites: nothing fancy but all yummy and good portions. The menu seemed varied, like a place a group could go to, and everyone would find something they like. The drink menu sounds amazing, but I didn't get to try anything when I visited. Funny enough, some other reviews mentioned the host situation being awkward, and that's how it was for us. Nothing wrong, really. They just weren't very outgoing and mumbled as they spoke. Based out of New Orleans, you will discover "Big Easy twists on Southern brunch classics, including benedicts, pancakes, and French Toast, as well as eye-opening cocktails." Jekario, my server, was exceptional pointing out their classics, his favorites, and a few items to entice extra cash out of my wallet. Nice job (though I wasn't that hungry). Since I vacillated between the Chicken St Charles or the Bayou Shrimp, he suggested The Peacemaker which was a split version of each. That works! The poached egg created a perfect runny sauce that flowed onto my biscuit and down over my spicy shrimp. The hints of rosemary and the tangy bite of fried green tomato paired nicely with the smoky pork tasso and delicate shrimp cooked in a creole tomato sauce. After a small sampling I packed up the chicken for the road trip home. It's still seducing me to heat it up sooner than later--maybe now. Good stuff is happening in the Queen City. We came here around 10am on a Monday morning and had high hopes as there seemed to be a good crowd of people in there despite it being a week day. We were seated quickly and our waitress was nice! We ordered a few waters and mimosas that tasted okay. Unfortunately it seemed like the glasses the drinks were served in could have been a little cleaner or even replaced as they had a lot of scratches and stains. The restaurant itself was decorated nicely, and didn't feel cramped even though it was on the smaller side! Our food took quite a while to come out, but our waitress kept apologizing and checking in on us which made it bearable. When our food came out, everything looked delicious but tasted a little plain which was disappointing. The beignets were flat and had no flavor aside from the small amount of powdered sugar on them. I had the fried chicken and french toast bites meal and enjoyed the chicken! Some of my french toast bites were soft and sweet, while others were crunchy like croutons and almost dry! The praline and cream cheese sauce that came with the meal helped a lot with the dryness and tasted great, however. I would like to try this restaurant again in the future and hopefully have a little better experience the second time around! read more

This place was so good and I can't wait to go back. Owners please open this in the DFW area. Pleaaase. The waiter, Quincy was an excellent server. He was personable and hung around to have a chat with us. He did well with recommendations and knew the menu. We started with the Morning Margarita which was tasty.. I had the smoked Salmon omelet and a side of fried green tomatoes. The omelet was well balanced, light and tasty. The tomatoes were regular nothing spectacular about them but good enough. My husband had the Grilled Fish St Peter. The sauce on this was everything. It really made the dish and it could carry over into other dishes as well. Headed for the first time to Ruby Sunshine before a Panthers game one Sunday. We lucked out by finding a parking spot in the little lot on the corner right by the restaurant. We were greeted by the hostess who told us it would be and hour and a half wait even though there were quite a few tables open, but Im guessing it was a staffing issue BUT having said that we opted to sit at the first come first serve bar seating (which we prefer) and had the loveliest waitress and had great conversations with other bar patrons. The service was fast and everything looked amazing on the plates. We dug in and the food was 10/10!! Really delicious and unique. Highly recommend you give Ruby Sunshine a try. We had a great brunch here on Sunday 12/3. The customer service was top notch from the hostess to the waitress to the kitchen staff!! Tasha was our server & she was very nice!! Come to find out she moved here from Iowa as did one of our party!! Small world!! The place was buzzing for brunch & she made sure we had everything we needed at all times. I recommend the shrimp omelet with breakfast potatoes!! Didn't like 2 of the mimosas in the flight (the Blueberry Lavender & Watermelon Pomegranate) but the creamy vanilla spiced latte was amazing! We joined the wait list on our drive to the restaurant. Had a short wait to be seated, very busy. Started with the beignet's, they were surprisingly small but tasty. I had the buttermilk pancakes w/honey and a side of bacon. Bacon was cooked perfectly for me, not overcooked, and the pancakes were light and fluffy. Service was great, especially for the crowd. Is there any meal more fun than breakfast? That's really a rhetorical question, of course there isn't. And finding fun breakfast places while traveling is often one of the highlights of my adventures. There was a lot going for Ruby Sunshine: Good reviews, online reservations, and friendly host staff. Waitstaff was also attentive and efficient, and the drink menu was cute. I don't mind being a little decadent in my breakfast choices when I travel as we tend to skip lunch. The Bacon Praline Pancakes seemed to check all of my boxes and I couldn't wait to smash those cakes. Unfortunately the end result was disappointing. The pancakes were saved without butter. I thought to ask for some but decided against it, hypothesizing that while that's a standard pancake accessory, these suckers may be packed with so much flavor that butter isn't necessary. I was wrong. They could have used butter. It did come with what could best be described as a shot glass of maple syrup, nowhere near enough syrup for these massive suckers. When the server reappeared I asked for more syrup...and was given another shot glass. Realistically I could have asked for two more shot glasses and still felt a bit underwhelmed as the pancakes were fairly dry and absorbed the syrup like a sponge. We had really high hopes for Ruby Sunshine, from the wealth of positive reviews to the curb appeal of the joint. And while the service was above average, the food was definitely mediocre. read more

I'm the Duchess of this place, which for a new business doesn't mean much but this was my 3rd time here. I also did the Yelp zoom event last week so I was craving their food. My first two experiences were amazing but this one left me really disappointed and not wanting to return. I joined the waitlist from home and monitored it to check my place in line. When I checked in there were two girls at the hostess stand. I was informed that on the weekends the waitlist isn't very accurate and we would still have to wait 30-45 more min. About 20 min later I got a text that said my table was ready. I walked back in the front door with my mom and both girls were still there but we weren't acknowledged at all. My mom had to speak first after an awkward silence of no greeting or any communication. We were sat outside on the patio. The waitress came almost immediately and we were off to a good start. After the mimosa & water was delivered we waited 36 minutes (I timed it b/c I took a pic when we sat down) to get our food. A check in here and there to say the food should be ready soon but no refills or refills effort to even bring us one. The French toast bites were super overcooked. You couldn't stick a fork in them. My moms potatoes had wayyy to much salt on them and the food overall wasn't very warm. Someone else brought our food out and our waitress didn't really come back to the table. We needed refills, fresh food, utensils etc. I ended up asking for a manager. The manager was super friendly and replaced our food within 10 minutes but again the new French toast bites were still way over cooked. It is my third time having them so I know what they should taste like. I was so excited to bring my mom here because I really hyped it up based on past experiences but this time we left unsatisfied and overall disappointed. I know weekends get hectic but the overall quality of service and food shouldn't reflect that. Usually all the staff is so attentive making sure you're having the best experience. The home fries did not have any flavor and the texture of the pancakes and biscuits had like an undone texture and flavor. I could taste the flour in the biscuits. The staff and service was good.
